AntiMarxist: NNPC is a bottomless money pit that needs to be liquidated asap.
What we need are for local investors to take over their assets so that they can compete against Dangote's mega refinery.
Trying to get NNPC with its institutionalised corruption to function as a profit making company and at the same time as a govt service corporation is the height of madness.
Sell it off and dissolve it's management board and give everyone working there sack letters. My brother, the greatest shock of your life will be to find out that that NNPC may not be worth up to 200m usd, and that it will not be profitable to any investor to buy even 50m usd. It will be a shock. I am yet to see a country that will say a govt institution has been privatised, and then year after year pump in huge funds into the company to maintain it's useless assets, and also allow it to control the countries resources. I think it is just a way of officially handing over Nigeria to the cabal. My wonder is amidst all these, Nigerians just keep quiet. Once in a while one lone voice will just stick out here and there and then go silent. Nigeria keeps going down, daily. By the time they will truly wake up, it may be too late. Nigeria services debts with over 95% of her revenue, the president is still looking for loan, the most recent is a 500m usd loan. A private chinese firm has started seizing Nigeria's assets in UK and France. Countries will soon come after Nigeria. They are quiete yet because they are being paid with oil. They give Nigeria 3b usd and take their payback through oil worth 12b usd. My brother, I cry sometimes when I discuss Nigeria and honestly wish it's not my country sometimes. |

CyrusVI: If its for health sector, then thats a big plus
Anything to reduce the brain drain in that sector
That will go a long way to drop the mortality rate by at least, 5%, which is a whole lot in terms of population figure It means Nigeria can't pay salaries? Even if it for health workers, will that make the hospitals generate additional income to pay back the loan? Nigeria can increase health workers salaries and comfortably pay, they would have done it if it will help them win elections. Judicial workers salaries were increase by 300%. The heartache is they are just eyeing the loan to embezzle. |

Jeez... You guys keep giving us reason to question the quality of Education in your region Come on bro, the seizures happened in 2024. Government is a continuum. Even if he was not there in 2016 he must have been briefed after the first seizure in UK. This is a national disgrace actually because Ogun state is tagged "a nigerian subnational". I think the FG should just get a supreme court order to pay the money and deduct from Ogun state monthly allocation. If you look closely, Ogun state thought it was the usual pally pally they do to impoverish Nigerians at their whimp without repercussions. One a new govt enter power, they start taking positions from existing managers and hand over to their 'boys'. I like this chinese company. Fight them to finish. Unless there is no national asset abroad. They gon learn. |

Sapasenator: I have actually seen people making good money from low-paying jobs with the addition of overtime. I asserted same in my subsequent analysis. I agree with you 100% In some parts of Europe, some people sign up to 3 or 4 delivery companies and they go home with about 4-5k usd equivalent monthly. No job is lowly, so long as it pays your bills. |

IbeOkehie: He specified a group of Nigerians he observed at work and tagged them as people living above their means because they were desperate enough to work in freezing temperature.
He shouldn't have made that assumption....they might have been living below their means AND working extra to save up even more money.
His post is STUPID.
Good Luck to Nigerians Perhaps I was misunderstood. I did not agree to him tagging them "living above their means", I only agreed to the phrase universally. Of course he cannot, just by seeing them working, adjudge them as 'living above their means'. |
Travel › Re: My observations about some of our japa brethren in North America by Lionize: 1:22am On Aug 12, 2024 |
IbeOkehie: There's NOTHING in his story that makes sense. I can point to a DOZEN guys in the USA who started 20 to 30 years ago as taxi drivers and cooks and retail clerks who have moved on and up to higher income jobs and entrepreneurship.
I know a taxi driver who entered pharmacy school in his 40s and today owns a pharmacy store in California. Yes some of them are still in those lower skill jobs today, but they're a small minority. That's FACT.
I know another taxi driver...that's all he did after coming to the USA in the 1970s. His wife is or was a nurse in Maryland. Both are now retired. They produced 4 children...lawyer, nurse, doctor and a manager in the professional sports. There's plenty grand children from good marriages. By the way, Maryland has some of the most toxic Nigerian communities...Texas is the worst....yet they still did OK in a long term, generational way. What is your take on that?
How can you take a look at a group of lower working class Nigerians in an Anglo-Western nation and just assume that's the end of their economic journey Which kind of STUPIDITY is that? These people have no plans, they're not aware of the economy around them or what? In fact it's in Nigeria that such economic stagnation is more LIKELY to happen and that's why so many are choosing to migrate away to Europe and North America! It's common sense but people just come on here and pretend they're ignorant or something 😒
@Lionize, you are the one making sense. The basic thing a Nigerian needs to do in North America is buy a home. I have illustrated the importance of this on at least one thread. And also get life insurance.
Once that is done life is set, upgrade skills if possible, just live reasonably and you will be fine, most will make it to the USA median household income of $65K and that will likely provide a better family HDI than 99% of Nigerian residents will ever attain.
If a person decides to take risks, they may end up with outsize rewards, but as long as the risk is commensurate with your status, they will be OK even if the venture fails. And the next generation can carry on with inherited capital and lessons learned.
Thanks.
Good Luck to Nigerians I guess you just read the opening phrase of my comment and didn't bother to continue. I extracted the below from his write=up, and till tomorrow, makes sense to me. do not live above your meansEven the low-paying jobs, with great planning, and consistency, one can make a great future out of it. People make equivalent of about 3-4k monthly in Europe doing multiple delivery jobs. i hate it when Nigerians carry Nigerian mentality abroad. Because you are privileged to get a good paying 9-5 job does not make you better than another, so long as you don't pay the person's bills. And, like you said, abroad is a land of unlimited growth opportunities compared to Nigeria. |

Sapasenator: About three years ago. It was a bitter winter and I was dining at a restaurant around 11 pm in the night. It was very cold and if I remember correctly, it was -35 degrees Celsius below freezing point and [s]if you pee outside, it freezes before hitting the ground[/s]. cold.
The restaurant was filled with everyone white except myself. I looked behind me and it was crowded with delivery drivers working for the delivery app, Skip the Dishes, waiting to pick up food orders. Nine delivery drivers and all black guys mostly Nigerian looking.
Imagine what it means to have to drive constantly in the bitter cold to deliver food when most people are either sleeping or enjoying themselves in a warm restaurant.
Some of these guys are even delivering with brand new SUVs purchased on credits and after a deeper dive, I came to realize our people here live mostly above their means to impress fellow Nigerians. They buy houses or cars they cannot afford and now have to work three jobs and drive on the side to maintain their fake lifestyles.
This is not a healthy way to live guys, learn to relax and enjoy yourself once in a while, do not live above your means and the fact that you are pre-authorized for that big mortgage, loan, or line of credit does not mean you have to accept.
Learn to live your life without trying to please or impress anyone and occasionally, take time off to have fun and enjoy yourself, take vacations. Oga, the only advice in this write-up that makes sense is the bolded. You see the pee matter, na big lie bro. Lastly, the guy who buys a house has made a huge investment. Saving up to make initial deposit, and the monthly principal repayment is a big win. The house can be sold anytime and deposit+contribution+appreciation will become his gain. One can still work 3 jobs and have vacations and rest with good planning. When you don't know people's story, don't come to portray yourself as living the best life. Life na turn by turn. You were 'dining' amongst 'whites' does not make you better than the " Nine delivery drivers and all black guys mostly Nigerian looking". |

It's clear they have no respect for our democracy or our leaders. what democracy? The one in the mud? Which leaders? The ones starving the people? Leaders who bathe only themselves and their cronies in stupendous wealth by stealing the resources that belong to the people at a point when the people are crying 'hunger'. Are those leaders? Is it not rather too callous to do such? People are complaining of subsidy removal and rising cost of governance, and the politicians spent a whooping 160m for each lawmaker. Not even that they purchased it locally, they imported them, thus further weakening the naira. These 'leaders' are not humans, their consciences have been seared with hot iron. Even Nigerians abroad are feeling the mess these politicians have plunged the country into. |

otipoju: Karma.
The big problem with Nigeria is that these politicians are slaves to the demons that they entered into covenant with in their quest for power.
Just like the demons they serve in their various secret societies...their goals are to steal, kill and destroy.
That is why dem do dey pity, those wey dey suffer. If you no dey their settings, they believe you have no right to enjoy anything at all because unlike them they have paid the price by sacrificing their souls and other human lives to the demons.
Until we start having decent and morally upright God fearing men in government, nothing will change. Chai, this is what I scream but everybody seems to either feign ignorance, or choose to ignore. This is 100% true, and it is the more reason Nigeria will everly struggle to be good. As we speak, the likes of Wike and others are busy making sacrifices to their gods to keep the protesters shut. They did a lot before the protest, hence the arrogance and impunity. I have a very long story about a youth revolution against the occultic elders who held a small community in Akamkpa LGA of Cross River state hostage many years ago. Nigerian politicians are possessed by demons. Nigerians need to know. |

Afterall they've already sold our [still unmined] crude oil far into the future and shared the money among themselves. It's perplexing though, not ever being sure whether you're being taken for a ride or whether they genuinely need more time. While it may be true that whoever is going to fix the nation will definitely need more than 8yrs to do so, we have also heard the plea of "more time" so much that it has become somewhat foolish to even consider accepting it. Without evidence on ground that you're really trying, you have no right to request for more time. They have sold the country as a whole and divided the proceed amongst themselves. But if allowed, they will segment the country and 'enslave' those under their territory. My brother, food wey go sweet dey show himsef for the aroma. 2 months is enough to strt feeling the impact of a good leader. As it is, it will actually take more than 8 yrs for us to get to the promised land, but one month is enough to see where they are heading. For instance, if a president tackles electricity head-on, you don't need a soothsayer to tell you. If a president reforms customs, it will start yielding fruits in 1 month. |

We need a system that would produce our best candidates from primaries and a free, fair and transparent election for president. It is very difficult to get a free and fair primaries in Nigeria, because the number is few and easy to bribe/influence. The voters at that level are all criminals who will no give heed to anything a good candidate wants to say if he will not load their pockets. But for general elections, we may perhaps be able to get a president that fits. I mentioned Obi because I am yet to see that other politician who will really be up and about devoid of corrupt tendencies. |
