Tunde woke up abruptly and opened his eyes. He realised that he had just woken up from a very vivid intense dream, the experience left him troubled and afraid. It had been so real, he swore he could still feel the taste of the gutter he had seen in his dream, in his mouth.
It had been revolting, no gutter could smell like that in real life.

He was lying on his side, he stared blankly at the wall opposite him, as tried to orientate himself.

Where was he?

His heart was pounding and beating rapidly in response either to the dream or where he was.

He moved his head and blinked his eyes a few times and finally remembered where he was.

He remembered a nurse telling him that he had suffered a heart attack in a coffee shop and that he had been admitted to hospital, everything after that was vague.

He saw a nurse on the other side of the room speaking to another patient, he was thirsty and needed some water.
He feebly put a hand up to get her attention but she did not see him.

He tried to move to get to the water jug and plastic glass on the side table but he realised that he was a bit too weak to get up. So he decided to wait a bit and gather his strength or he would wait until the nurse came over to look at him.

He closed his eyes briefly, as he remembered in stark detail the dream he just had.
He rarely dreamed and the few times he had it had be a forewarning regarding pivotal events in his life.

The dream in question that he had just awoken from, had been about Linda and Enitan; it had looked and felt so real he thought to himself.
It was as if something was being shown to him, he was sure that there was a message in what he had being shown.

It was as if someone had taken him by the hand and walked him through Linda’s life with him being an unseen spectator.

Her life had been an eye opener and made for some uncomfortable viewing on his part.

The scales had finally fallen from his eyes, Linda was a perverted money grabbing gold digger.

How could he have been so blind?

He had met Linda through his friend Ike, at his club where she had been introduced to him as a caterer. Thinking about it now, he wondered what she had really been catering for?

It certainly hadn’t been food, he had never seen dirty pots in the kitchen, yet she always claimed that she cooked for him.

She had been in his club canvassing for men, men who were stupid enough to part with their hard earned cash.
He had fallen into her trap, but he had to accept his complicity as he had encouraged her.

He had been so fVcking stupid.

He had also been flush with the money at the time he had met Linda; even though the money wasn’t his, it was Enitan’s. He had felt invincible and powerful; he had wanted to show off to someone and who better to show off to.
Than to the girls that flocked the club, the girls who were only there for one thing.

Enitan had put down the money for them to start their construction business; Enitan’s money that had come from her inheritance and a loan she had personally taken out at work. She had willingly handed the money over to him, she had trusted him and God knows how he had repaid her.

Even in his weakened state the guilt pangs he was now feeling were devastating. His heart started beating rapidly as he thought about the money he had spent on Linda that he should not have spent.

Whoever said guilt was not a burden on the heart lied, he could feel the weight on his heart as if it were a heavy lead ballon.

All the time he had goaded Enitan, not once had she thrown it in his face, or tried cutting him down to size regarding the source of his pompousness all over town. He tried to rake his hand through his hair as these thoughts went through his mind, but he couldn’t lift his arm.

Enitan please forgive me, he whispered.

He wished and hoped he had the opportunity to speak to his daughter Tobi and warn her about marriage and men; warn her about men like him.

In one part of the dream he had been in a room where Linda was speaking to a man about him. It was evident that the man she was speaking to was a babalawo.

Chai he thought.

Linda had finished him.

She had given the man some of his stuff and she had also handed over his semen.

How had she secured that, stupid man he said to himself, he had never used any protection with Linda.

He had bought the whole I am not one of the girls routine from her.

He heard the babalawo say to her that from now on Tunde would do anything for her, without questioning.
So what he had found in the flat hadn't been a figment of his imagination after all.

He needed to warn his friend Ike, as his name had also been in a jar at the back of her wardrobe.
Yuk he had been dipping his wick into the same place as his friend.

How many men at his club was she actually sleeping with?

How many men had she infected?

He saw the man tell her again that Tunde would now do anything for her after he had cast the spell for her.
It had worked, everything she had asked for he had given her, he hadn’t even thought to himself that hold on, why am I doing this.

He also heard the man say to her that his wife was not going to be easy to get rid of. The man had been talking about Enitan.

He had felt his heart skip a beat even in his dream; Linda.

Linda had been willing to get rid of Enitan?

Mo gbe o, he thought to himself

Linda was a wicked soul. But why?

Linda had five men’s destiny in her hands from what he had seen, why go for so many?

How much money did a woman need?

But his conscience came to the fore, as he remembered the way he had treated his wife. He had also been a willing participant in denigrating his wife at every turn.

He had beaten her more times than he could remember, just seeing her had enraged him.

Poor Enitan, he must have been off his rocket for real or he had been high on expired beans for him to treat her that way.

He thought back to the way he had talked about her to their son. He and his son had nearly come to blows, the respect his son had for him as an elder and Father had prevented his son for punching him; it had been that bad. He did not know if he would see his son again, they had not spoken since that day more than a year ago.

Enitan please forgive me he whispered again.

The scene moved on from there to Linda being on a plane. She was going to Dubai; he remembered handing over the rent money he had just collected to Linda, for her trip to Dubai. That had been money that should have gone into some repairs at one of their residences. He had also initially planned to give some of the money to the twins for maintenance at school.
Instead when the kids had come to him he had told them to leave him alone and go to their Mother.

Before the scene began, the dream had shown him the most foul and smelling gutter he had ever come across in his life, there were cat sized rats and rodent sized maggots in it. In the dream he was dipping his leg into the vile repugnant depths of the gutter, the message could not have been clearer.

The next scene showed him what Linda had been doing in Dubai. She hadn't gone there to buy stuff as she had told him, she had gone there to consort with more men. Only the men she had gone to see were the most jaded of human beings he had even seen. If the gutter scene hadn’t warned him before he was now shown the real meaning behind the gutter metaphor.

The things he saw her do with the men, made the bile come up his throat even now as he remembered the dream. She had negotiated money with the men for the acts she did, she had consented willingly for those men and things to do what they wanted, all in the name of money.

Linda, why? Why did you do this, what kind of money obsession do you have.

Linda had definitely given him the syphilis there was no doubt about that; the syphilis that had ended up being his death sentence.
If only he had heeded to Enitan’s health warnings, when she had tried to talk to him.

However he also acknowledged his own actions in the matter at hand, if he hadn’t felt compelled to have a side chick, he would not be in this mess.

Enitan had been the best wife anyone could ask for. She was beautiful, intelligent, loyal and hard working. She had been a real home maker and he had messed it up fatally for a piece of money grabbing arse like Linda.

He lifted up his hand again to the nurse, but she did not see him.

*INSATIABLE*
~Story of a quiet Yoruba Demon~
Chapter 13

It seems I have gotten the whole world wrapped in my palm. I got to the front of the mahogany building with the name 'Glorious High School' inscribed atop. I smiled, knowing what I wore.

I checked myself again and the funny looking dress still looks good on me.
I was lackadaisically cogitating if to enter or wait for Seyi that asked me to always wait for her around this axis

'Awon goons mi, Awon eruku mi, Awon loni ki ma para, to ni ki n keep cool mi... (My goons, my real loyalist, they told me not to get irked and to keep my cool...)

That was the song that blazed from my phone which I kept in my pocket.
I wasn't meant to bring my phone to the centre but there was this feeling that engulfed me this morning that made me to abet my initial plan of leaving it at home.

'Hello'

'Soldier, this is your instructor from base. What is your report status'

'Code Green. Agent 2147 en route to retrieve the package. Enemy fortress in sight. Permission to zero out sir'
There was reluctance at the other end of the call then the order came in

'Soldier, you are now Solo and if caught, the government of the US will declare you Excommunicado. Do you copy, I repeat, do you copy?'

I waited for some few seconds, looked around and then brazenly replied

'Roger that Major'

The call cuts.

Yes, you are all right. That's Isaac calling to know where I am and if I am with any implicating material. He reminded me that If caught, I will face the tune alone.

It's just our mode of communicating sometimes and we like it being cryptic. Most times, I assume the post of a Lieutenant while he is my A team special agent. The idiot reversed the role today but I was all smiles, given the elusive fact that he is no more in Lagos.

He went to Ogun State for his Waec Examination for reasons best known to you and I. One word 'Malpractice'.

Pocketing back my phone, I saw Seyi already running towards me as she delved into an apologetic and defensive stance on why she was late.

I just smiled and said nothing. Then the thought of her class teacher coursed through me like a tide of wave.

I have to make sure she doesn't sense or have any reason to ponder what I am going to ask her. So, like a maestro, I chose my words carefully as I began

'Seyi, I hope the teacher didn't punish you the other day'

'Oh, Mrs Vera, she didn't. She only asked me to stand up and after a while, she told me to sit back. I heard that among all other students, she only searched you'

Now, she was inquisitive asshe turned facing me

'Ooh, she did. She conjectured I was with an inexplicable material because when she came to invigilate prior the external invigilators, I was already through' I said, seeing her placated as I have gratified her with an honest answer.

'Emm Seyi, is she doing teaching practice or what?'

She laughed as she heard what I said and she continued again, other students gawking at us by the road side as we passed

'Miss Vera is the daughter of the Principal. She finished her NYSC three years ago and she was offered automatic employment by her petulant mum.

Her mum want her to take charge of the management of the school after she dies and she is very wicked' she submissively chipped in

.
.
'Tolu, why are you saying nothing or do you like her...'

Before a word could slip off my mouth, we had already gotten to the school gate as I waved her off. How can I tell her that her principal's daughter grabbed Panshan the other day?

I got to the class in which the exam is to be held, seeing my number ostensibly written on the chair '65', then I smiled. Curtsying a little to show a form of respect to my colleagues. I don't know why, I have been labelled as disrespectful while at home, the elders said I don't prostrate to pay obeisance to them.

It's only Mum that comes to rescue me in such moment, not after promising them I will be dealt with but still, I do curtsey, bow and nod my head when I see an elder or even a mate. This has become a reflex action and I can't help myself. My mum always say 'Greeting is a bribe'.

Curtsying always indicate to others that I am a genuine Yoruba boy.

Escaping my enormous thoughts, I remembered that We were to have Mathematics and I was all prepared. Back then in secondary school, Mathematics isn't my forte but I still come out victorious. Sometimes, it's cinching while most times, it's a convoluted equation that makes me throw jibes at the person who introduced Mathematics as a subject.

Before the exam, all 'undercover' ss3 students were asked to convene outside for a brief assembly.
I left my seat and was walking alongside Ahmed who was telling me how Mrs Vera looked for me the other day.

He even assured me that nothing is going to happen when he sensed fear emanating from me.

We got to the assembly ground and queued up, waiting for this bald man to finish his statement but out of all what he said, this was what captured my attention

'It is Pertinent for all of you to know that this School Is known for its uprightness and academic excellence. For decades, we have been churning out prodigies in various department and we won't for any reason, permit any of you to soil the goodwill we used years to built. Is that clear'

'Sir, yes sir' The whole student vociferated in unison.

Except the legends of course, legend like me. I was quite anxious standing because my mind had wandered into an abyss of thoughts.

Hearing Mrs Vera was looking for me spelt trouble and I don't know what to envision in the quandary I got myself into.
I kept surmising possible reasons she might be looking for me. Did I miss anything on the first date, did I fail to write my exam number? Or was it panshan?

The latter seems to be the plausible case but I was trying to convince myself that it didn't happen.

After convening at the assembly ground, we were given a compact calculator and told to wait inside after the assembly for the examination as the question papers are yet to arrive.

The man on the podium was invigoratingly dishing out instructions and I decided to listen to his annotations as he accentuated on it.

'Mathematics consist of paper 1 and paper 2. Paper 1 is for multiple choice questions while the paper 2 is the theoretical aspect. When you are through with paper 2, you will have to take a mid break of one hour and no one should go home because after that, you will still sit for your paper 1. Should anyone leave, he/ she should just forget about mathematics because there is nothing but... ' He roared

To be candid, that mid break was my best part and I was lucky to hear that piece, having to go on a compulsory one hour break is self gratifying and I was reeling in the euphoric feeling when a hand tapped me from behind.

Lo and behold, it was Miss Vera with a prim look on her face. She was dressed in a white T shirt, tucked into the ample skirt she wore and looked nothing less than corporate. What would have excited me more if not for the stature she possess and the rare 'Coca Cola' shape '60cl bottle' she was blessed with.

Seeing her made me disoriented and I was petrified she might make me a scape goat on the assembly ground.
How disheartening that would be?

'Senayon Tolu right?' She asked, her voice void of any emotion.

'Yes ma' I gnawingly responded

'After your first paper, meet me in my office' she ordered as she walked towards a class.

I was in awe seeing her leave, everything about her is amorously insidious. I wonder how the male teachers are able to cope with such daily temptation and I surreptitiously watched as her protruded butt swayed in a brazen demeanour.

Panshan already raised his head in acquiesce to my conjecture on what the sight just saw. I expeditiously closed my eyes and tried envisioning a rebarbative thought to suppress the urge of my licentious fantasy.

*********

The external invigilators came earlier than expected and the school was a bit tight. The math was tricky but still couldn't circumvent the grasp of my brilliance on it. For crying out loud, I used a whole year to prepare for this exam but there are some questions that looked foreign to my botched eyes.

After some time, the tension eased and the teachers have been able to to calm the external invigilators with some Red Labels and Black labels.

Right before my eyes, the bald man that was accentuating on honesty and academic excellence strolled buoyantly into the class with a list of names on a white sheet of paper which he was holding.

I was trying to demystify the mystery on why he is here as he was calling the names of some students.
That was when it hits me that the list contains 'Special' students.

I was surprised and later dishevelled knowing my name won't be among. My mum is hell of a disciplinarian and heaven helps you if you tell her you want to cheat your way into success.

'Akinsiku Ahmed, Oyewogbo Hafsat, John Tega, Bryte Tracy...' The bald man went on and on.

Jesus! So this girl that was forming pristine and conservative was already vitiated. You all should see the way she stood up with an Ineffable demeanour, readjusting her hijab with a captious smile.

Haa!!! Alhaji Ahmed. Even brother John that was exuding a sacrosanct behaviour. May God forgive us all.

Within me, I screamed. One would think this lots are uncorrupted but that would be an aberration to my fugacious disappointment in this man that was calling the names.

Should one see how he was accentuating on the importance of Godliness and probity, one wouldn't have a predilection that he is bereft of an iota of godliness.

It's already time for the one hour break when I saw Ahmed heading towards where I was. He was excited and I couldn't help but wonder how elated he must have been.

I would have been happy too if it was me and he already got closer when he broke the news

'Tolu, how far na? You dey dull ooo. I thought you were also among us.'

'What happened? I propitiously inquired

'Guy, the answers were already on the board and they were even begging us not to write everything' He cheerfully responded.

'Haaa, they even begged you guys not to write everything when there is someone in my hall who couldn't finish a question.'
Wanting to lambast they system, be cuts me short as he petitioned

'Tolu, won't you go and meet Mrs Vera'

That's true. It completely eluded me and I have been pondering whether to go or not

Ahmed looks pretty matured and he is an external student, I mean, he is writing the exam for the chairman of his local Government.

He told me he already had his result and business was booming because he was paid well to do the job.
There were also others like him. I just smiled and enjoyed his company. Seeing he is credible enough , I explained my woes to him.

'Chairmo, Tolu, you should have told me na. Almost everyone will die to have a chat wit Mrs Vera but you are here playing.
You know what, don't go today. Let me give you the scope... ' He continued.

Verily Verily I say unto you, Ahmed is a Badoo and his gimmicks was a master craft. I swear, this guy is a legend. He advised on me using the broom's tactics.

A broom is not appreciated when it is present in the room, but its absence stresses its importance.

Seeing I have someone to tutor me on the Pros and cons, I also joined in the frenzy mood making one to think I was among those taken to the special room.

I got to the Shop with an ecstatic feeling only to find Snr Chibuzo and Mr Gold looking dreary.

The institute looks scattered as if a war was fought in the hall.

Everything seems to have been turned upside down and when I asked what happened, I was made to know that Senior Roland already travelled to God knows where.

The woman whose document was laminated came in today with two soldiers who threatened Mr Gold that If her document is not seen, by next month, he would have himself to blame.

If not for the neighbours, Mr Gold would have already been punched.

Out of the ear shot of Mr Gold, Snr Chibuzo noted that Mr Gold was a punny and was just averring their statement by adding 'Sir' to whatever he is been told.

'See, Mr Gold had once been beaten by soldiers before when he was young. He went to the beach with his friends and they got into an altercation with a man. Before the man could say anything, they blessed him with a thunderous slap and unknown to them, the man was a soldier with his colleagues looking at what was transpiring.

After the slap, the colleagues made a dash for them and unfortunately, Mr Gold was the only one caught in the Web. To be succinct, he was beaten black and blue;red and yellow black and diamond and lastly, he was beaten Gold. Since then, he turned a new leaf and established 'The Golden's institute'... ' Snr Chibuzo narrated.

Wow, that was an adept insight as to why Mr Gold had a phobia for Soldiers. Hahahahha

I joined in the party to look for the document but it was evident that the woman's file isn't in the institute. I mean, we checked every nooks and cranny; uncollected files one after the other, we checked the storage, under the cushions, the computers, even the fridge.

Calling Roland's number is a futile effort. Roland stayed with his Grandma who says her grandchild just packed out of the house. I bet Roland knew this was coming.

Like a prophet, he already foresee the dangers and that's the only plausible reason he absquatulated from home.

What baffled me was that I overheard Mr Gold saying the Soldier that flogged him back then was the same man the xanthippe woman brought.

To be sincere, it's a deja vu and what can be more mind boggling than that if not for the fact that he was given an ULTIMATUM.

I got early to the school for the next exam . Stares from different student and I surmised maybe I am the one that's too apprehensive.

I literally felt everyone's eyes gawking at me and at the front of the class was Mrs Vera motioning me to come forward.

Readjusting my school Uniform, I strode forward to meet Mrs Vera. I knew she was angry at me and it's ostensibly inscribed on her face as I jammed the door.

Wow, her office is a spacious executive compartment painted in cream colour. The Air Conditioner was doing it's job and a large table, not taller than an average office stood was comfortable placed at the centre of the office. Files ranging from green, blue, white were all placed neatly on the table and a desktop computer could be seen sitting effortless on it.

The ground was tiled and the office would make a banker drool to be a teacher. One can say, she is living the life.

'Are you done assessing my office?' Her voice nudged me off the subconscious and I became active and aware of where I was.

I didn't jitter and was waiting to hear what this angel, I mean teacher had to say.

'Come over here' she ordered.

'Do you have any material in your pocket' She muttered, motioning me come forward.

'No ma... I...' I stammered and walked towards her as she dipped her hands into my pocket.

This time around, I was sure she had Panshan in custody and amidst the situation, Panshan still obliged her request by getting stiffened in a bid to respond to her hand touch.

'You see, you are in school and...' she seductively licked her lips as Panshan has arose in its utmost furry. The trouser I was putting on submerged Panshan's decision to be freed but still it can't suppress the budge. Miss Vera grazed her hand pass Panshan again, shifting me closer and I intended to touch her b**bs when my hands were met with a smack.

She obviously don't want me to touch her and when I thought she is going to free Panshan out to have a feel, she abruptly said

'After the exam, come back here and don't tell anyone'

It seems she like domineering and that's a dilemma because I don't like being subjugated either.

Still, my heart fluttered in elation.

*After exam it is...*

That meant he would have to wait for long. I asked him to wait at the lobby. I however ensured that he was served a pack of food and bottle water. Few minutes to nine, I was ready to go. I had my things ready in my bag as I went to meet Manu in the lobby.

‘Alright, let’s go,’ I said. After I had settled in the car, I asked the driver where Mola lived.

‘Ago palace way, Okota,’ he said.

It was quite a trip to move from Berger to Okota, but for a man like Mola, I would do it. It was few minutes to ten when the car stopped at the gate of his beautiful duplex, off Ago palace Way. Manu honked the horn and waited. A young man, obviously the security guy, came to briefly
gaze at the car. He went back inside the compound and soon threw the giant gates open. The car was driven inside.

Manu preceded me out of it to the main building. A girl with a shy smile welcomed me to the main living-room. There was a small welcome party waiting for me. As soon as I stepped inside the large, exquisitely furnished sitting-room, Mola and two kids - I guessed they were his offspring - stood up to give a welcome.

'You're welcome,' Mola said. 'And we - Kola and Maryam - are delighted to welcome you.'

I was awed. 'Good evening, sir,' I greeted. 'How are you Kola and Maryam?'

'Fine,' they answered. I briefly studied the children. Kola, the boy, should be about twelve years old while his sister should be about ten. They
looked well-groomed and lovely. I should hands with Kola while I hugged Maryam.

'That is Aunty Simi,' Mola said further. 'I asked them to wait until you come.' He said it as if he was referring to the Princess of Wales. I was
bemused by the whole scene.

'Okay, children,' Mola said. 'You can go to bed now.'

'Good night, Aunty Simi,’ they said one after the other.

'Good night, children.'

I turned to face him the moment the children were out of sight. 'What was that?'

He smiled. 'It's our way of welcoming you to the house.'

I grinned. I suspected there was more to this, but I would play along.

'Do you want anything for dinner?' he asked.

I shook my head. 'Oh, no, I've eaten.'

'Let me take you to my bedroom, then.'

I picked up my handbag and followed him to the bedroom. It was a very large and comfortable room with king-size bed. He was already in
pajamas, so I was the one to change clothes.

He eyed me with interest as I wore my skimpy and sexy night wear.

'I know you must have missed me terribly and you're gearing for the real action,' I teased him.

'I missed you,' he agreed, ‘but I’m not angling for any action.'

'Really?' I wriggled my waist and seductively shook my breasts. 'Are you sure about that?'

'I'm sure,' he asserted. 'I didn't bring you for sex, Simi.'

I stopped to stare at him. 'Really? So, what did you bring me for?'

Nike laid on her hotel room holding her head with both hands, she had tried to get some rest but couldn’t, she kept on hearing whispers that sounded like a thousand voices. She couldn’t sleep it got worse and soon it became loud shouts, screams and chants. Her head banged in pain like a drum beaten by an angry child, she wondered if Kalfu was still tormenting her. She tried contacting her ancestors but couldn’t she decide to contact Kalfu.

After she had lit three black candles she grabbed a hand full of black powder; a combination of chalk, darkened with charcoal. She drew Kalfu verve sign on a white ceramic dish, from memory as if she had done it before, and then placed a medium size painted black wooden cross into it. She applied special oil at intersection of the cross and anointed the edges of the plate counter clock wise order then poured a shot glass full of gun powered whiskey and placed it on the plate. She sparks up a cigar, she suck on it and blows three strong puffs and drops the still smoking cigar into the plate. Then she prayed

Met Kalfou the great dark trickster
I pay homage to you
Lord of the chaos and master of black magic
I pay homage to you
Patron of the black witches and black magicians
I pay homage to you

Patiently she watches the cigar burn it quenched and the candle burnt out completely then she felt a jolt of energy, strength and courage.

“You have just initiated yourself into the mystery of Kalfu.” A voice in her head overshadowed the others.

“Yes, my lord, but why do you still torment me.”

There is awkward silent and absolute darkness Nike felt empty felt. She spun around trying to make sense of this strange phenomenon.

“My lord what is going on?” Nike demanded.

Kalfu laughed a dubious laughter; it echoed replacing the quietness with a very eerie chill.

“I have no reason to torment you, the whispers you hear and prayers.”

“Prayers?” Nike mouth was left open in shock.

“Yes normally people pray to Aro Meta and since you stole the powers of the others all the prayers are coming to you.”

“How do I make it stop?”

“Well you could give them back their powers.”

“That’s not an option.”

“Or you can answer the prayers.”

“All of them, I won’t have time for myself.”

“A minimum of one a day would mute the voices.”

“So how do I even start?”

“You start by listening filter out the one you want to solve and all others would become quiet.”

“After that how do I answer their prayers without going back into the Iroko tree?”

“Wow! You underestimate yourself you have the power of three Elder Witches in you, let’s face it you are literally an Orisha, you work with me now so you have my ASE! You don’t need charms and recitations, your word are those of god. You can appear wherever you want in whatever form.”

“Ok let me give it a try so that I can get some sleep, tomorrow Oju goes down.”

“Well, I have severed your linage with your ancestors so you are no more an Aje funfun, you are now an Aje dudu a so I’ll suggest you focus on prayers from Dark magicians.”

“I don’t know why people avoid you, you are nicer that you seam.”

“Its trickery girl first impressions are important and fear brings respect. Bye” Kalfu ends his statement with a pun.

Nike begins to focus her energy she heard different complains but one caught her curiosity. An Aje dudu had unleashed a Kpelekpe and lost control of it. This would be interesting she thought.

“I want to answer this prayer ASE.”

Instantly she herself inside a hut standing in front of an old looking witch who got startled at her presence.

“Identify yourself oh Great Spirit.” The Aje echoes while holding tight to a protection amulet.

“I am the Great Black AJe, the vulture that eats the living, the patron of all.” Nike had picked up a thing or two from Kalfu and she thought it would be fun to sound mysterious, powerful and scary. She thought of adding the illusion of flaming eyes to the mix but she didn’t want to be too extra.

“How are you here, I have no covenant with you.”

“Yes, but you prayed to the Aro Meta.” Nike felt bad now for starling the poor woman, the lady was been too careful not to deal with an unfamiliar spirit.

“I know but Aro Meta are three you are one and the power I can sense from you is God like. Please I don’t want any trouble.”

“Don’t worry you have no path with me so don’t be scared. You see am I am the spirit the Aro Meta summon when things are very hard for them to solve” Nike lied telling her the truth was no option Nike got more creative “ I am Aro Okan the spirit of three witches in one, the one legged stool.”

“Aro Okan, I have never heard of you but if you are the benevolent mother you claim to be harkens my words, I owe you no debt and I strike no deal with you.”

“Oh you worry too much; my deal is only with the Aro Meta.” She paused then switched the topic “Anyways why did you summon a Kpelekpe.”

“In this village of ours, we had become constant victims of a gang of robber who come to steal and pillage. Law enforcement couldn’t help so the King consulted me and I had to take laws into hands.”

“By making him a Kpelekpe!” Nike exclaimed.

“No, I changed his brother. He was the most honorable man we had in our countryside. The deal was simple he would hunt and eat the thieves and when they are no thieves he can raid burial grounds for scraps.”

“So what went wrong?”

“Well, after a while thieves left our vicinity so he focused more on raiding graves, news spread around that a grave robber was in town and the people he once protected laid ambush for him and tried to kill him. In the process he killed one and ever since he now see it as an excuse to hunt for fresh meat.”

“Why can’t you just break the curse?”

“Aro okan, The vulture that eats the living, a Were Hyena curse can’t be broken once the cursed one had drunk human blood.”

Nike felt confused she regretted her choice to answer a prayer on a situation she knew nothing about but she had to represent her new name.

“Yes I know that, what I am saying is with all your power you could have simply killed him.”

“The problem is in his Were-Hyena state he is immune to magic and during the day he hides in the bush cloaked by some sort of spell I can’t break.”

“Wow”

“That not all”

“What else?” Nike wondered

“He has started a pack.”

Nike was sure this was a lost cause, she tried to disappear but she couldn’t, what Kalfu didn’t tell her was that once you took on a prayer she couldn’t leave till she had solved it. She tried to take a step forward but she couldn’t.

“Release me from this seal so I can help you.”

The witch is reluctant but she hears a growl outside her hut.

“I release you but I owe you nothing I make no deal.” the old witch took precaution.

Nike was tired of hearing the same thing she looked around for a weapon to defend herself, all she could find was a knife. She grabbed it, the growl was getting louder and she could hear the irritating noise of claws scratching against the door.

“Do you have any Whiskey?” Nike asked.

“Yes” She pointed to a bottle.

“Ok do you have gun powered.”

“No” The Witch replied staring at Nike in total confusion.

“What of pepper.”

“Yes I do, the lady rushes and gets a small bag of dry pepper.”

“This would do” Nike replied as she emptied the pepper into the bottle of whiskey.

She cuts her left palm and draws Kalfu verve on the floor using her blood as ink then sprinkled the peppered whiskey on it.

“It seems you have found yourself in a pickle” Kalfu voiced rang in her head.

“Please how do I kill a pack of Were Hyenas?”

“Well kill the Alfa and all the others would die.”

“How do I do that? Magic doesn’t work on it.”

“My dear you have to use your wits.”

“Who are you talking to?” The old witch asked wondering why the Aro Mata had sent this lunatic god to her aid.

Slam! The door flung open. Nike’s nose was greeted with the smell of a sticky wet dog, she glanced at the despicable creature, it was as large as a bear, with a hyena head that looked like the head of seven pits bulls fused together as one, from waist down to ankle he was like a man but his feet were hairy paws with razor sharp claw. Its fur was a collage of blackish brownish blue. Its jaws were powerful and its teeth were sharp like butchers knife. At first Nike didn’t notice it tail but she did, it looked with that of an over sized squirrel bushy and wet.

Instantly the Witch ran and hid behind Nike. Nike was terrified but she stood her ground.

“Listen I am Aro Okan, do not mess with me.”

The were-hyena squinted its deep green eyes as if he wanted to tell her something, and then it pounced without warning. In reflex and pure survival instinct Nike splashed the peppered whiskey into its eye. The Were-Hyena growled in pain rolling. Nike took advantage of the moment and tried to stabbed the creature in the heart, she had to twist and turn to cut through it hard skin, she had not gotten quit deep when the creature slapped her with its enormous paw and flung her towards the wall.

She recovered from the hit, fills her mouth up with peppered whiskey and sprays towards the creatures eyes. The growls get louder as the frustrated blind creature trys to get away but kept on ramming its head into the wall. She notices a bottle of kerosene she emptied it on the beast fur and lights it on fire. The beast goes on a rampage running in circle smashing things. After a while it gets weak, and starts to shrink and turns into a man with burns all over his body.

“This is our chance.” The old Witch screamed.

She grabbed the knife from the floor and rushed towards the man’s body stabbing him several time in the heart before chopping his head off. Nike came closer she was shocked the lady looked like she enjoyed it.

“Aro Okan, the one legged stool, The Great Black AJe, The vulture that eats the living, Slayer of evil creatures of the Night and protector of the weak, I worship you, I would set up an altar for you and appease you. Hence forth you are my Orisha.”

Nike didn’t understand it but she felt a strange rush as the woman showered her with worship It was some sort of euphoric inner peace and burst of pure energy, it was addictive she spread her arms apart absorbed it all allowing it to flow through her then she appeared back at her hotel room.

She noticed fire burning on Kalfu altar and rushed to the bath room filled a bucket with water and used it to puts it out. Then she heard a whisper “The peppered whiskey you sprayed into the Kpelekpe eyes was an offering to me. Never take back what you give to me. This is a warning!”

Nike was too excited to be troubled by Kalfu ego, she wanted to ignore him but she knew better.

“Lesson learnt my lord. I apologize for my ignorance. I promise to replace it.”

“Aro Okan, the one legged stool, the great vulture that eats the living.” He teased her.
They both shared a heartfelt laughter.

Once Nike was done with her research she felt drained and tired, she listed out the items she needed to acquire to appease Kalfu. She eagerly wanted to get to the market but she felt weak so she took a nap before she goes to get them. Immediately she drifted off, she found herself in a dream still in her room. She noticed a dark creature in the corner of the room. It had glowing cat eyes. She tried to scream but couldn't, she attempted to move but couldn’t feel her legs. She was paralysed. The creature walked towards her slowly as she stayed helpless in fear without control of her body, just when she felt her hand move, she heard herself scream as it pounced on her. She woke up sweating screaming and crying.

“Why are you tormenting me I would appease you for ifa’s sake.” A frustrated Nike cried out.

She began to chant

Egun lya, spirit of my immediate family
Egun ilu, spirit of the community
Egun idile, spirit of my blood lineage
Egun eleko, spirits of friends met in past lives
Egun enia sasa, spirits of great priestess
Egun Aje funu, spirit of white witches
I summon thee,
Iya my grandmother
I call on the energy of white witches
I summon you for advice
An old lady appears dressed in a white

“Iya mi” Nike screams in excitement. “I found out you were my grandmother after you died. I am now an Aje funfun and part of the Aro meta.”

“My daughter, why have you summoned me?”

“Iya me, I am very sorry.” Nike bows down in respect “ I am been tormented by a spirit and I don’t know what to do”

“Well its very simply, you have to appease him but do not make any deal.”

“How do that that.”

“Well you do an appeasement offering, not worship or demand sacrifice.”

“I don’t understand what is the different.”

“Worship sacrifice is….” Iya disappears before she could finished her statement.

“Come back! Where have you gone?”

Kalfu suddenly appeared.

“Well you seem to forget I control the cross road, I have blocked your access to your ancestors.”

“Please how do I appease you?”

“Sweet heart you have to build me an altar. Worship me, scarifies to me.”
He vanished#

Nike remembered her Iya warning but she was too scared to act on it. Nike rushed to the market. She looked practically insane and confused. She often got scared of her own shadow and saw Kalfu in people faces. At times she would scream but she was determined to get this done with and restore her sanity. After getting most of the items she also bought fireworks so she could scrap it for gun powder. She visited a wood carver and showed him an image of Kalfu she found online. The carver found the picture scary and refused, he tripled fell and died. Nike finally found a carver willing to do the work.

When she got back to her hotel room she began to prepare the altar. She cleared out a table and placed a clean red cloth on it, then dropped the statue of Kalfu there. She cut open the fire works with a knife and mixed the gun powered into a bottle of gin. Then she waited until the middle of the night, drove to a desolate cross road, brings out a black goat which she kept in her car and slaughtered it and poured its blood on the floor.

Kalfu the great, I beseech you
The moon god, I honor you
Met Carrefour, accept my offering
The bogeymen, please do not frighten me
I call on you to strike my enemies with great vengeance

She paused and sprinkled the whiskey mix on the ground. Instantly it caught on fire and Kalfu appear to her. He looked different from the first time. He was dressed in a three piece suit that outlined his physical features tall, sharp and well built.

“Hello Nike” he said in a soft tender tone as he held her hand gently.

Nike was speechless; flabbergasted by his appearance. To her he was handsome, from the depth of his glowing eyes to the gentle expressions of his voice to the touch of his hand upon my hers. She fought herself from hugging him.

“Come close.” He placed his hands around her.

Nike melted, in that split second she lost herself for a moment and quite forgot all the pain he had cursed her.

“So tell me, how I can help you.” He said with a brilliant smile radiant full of glee and a childish innocence.

“Well how can I get rid of Esu. So I can get my revenge on Oju”

“You can’t kill an Orisha, as long as they have worshippers they are immortal.” He laughed “but off course you knew that.”

“Yes, I just want him to stop cloaking Oju from my reach.”

“He is possessing Oju so you can’t harm Oju while he is under his protection. Also there is a spell you can use to force out Orisha from human bodies but that only works when balance is tampered, but Esu is too smart he would see you coming from afar. You need to leverage Ogunshola.”

“How do you mean?”

“You see Ogunshola has own problems with Oju, assist him and he would help you find him.”

“But when I find him what should I do.”

“It’s simple use your curse against him, it might not kill him but it would help push things out of balance.”

“Thank you Kalfu.”

“That’s not all, you have to give your sisters back their power.”

“But they would try and stop me.”

“Only you alone cannot restore balance once it is broken. You would need them.”

“You’ve be great help, I am so happy I contacted you.”

“You are welcome, now for what I want?”

“Anything just mentions it.”

“Deal” he shook her hand and a circle of green flame formed a ring around their hands “Let just say you owe me.”
He took a sip of whiskey spat out fire, laughed hideously as he transformed into a scary form before he disappeared.

Different people have different things that excite them and we need to be happy for them not try and berate them.

Even celebrities have other celebrities they admire. Like Wizkidayo has some artists in USA he is looking up to.

When they sneeze, he catches cold. Gotcha?
