A former military president, General Ibrahim Baban-gida, is ill and on admission at a German hospital. Babangida, who left the country a few weeks ago for what was reported to be a routine medical check-up, was said to have been indisposed for quite some time now. A source close to the hospital in Germany said the former president, who had a successful operation for an undisclosed ailment, was initially in critical condition a few minutes after the operation, but had since stabilised. However, a source close to his family told the Nigerian Tribune that he spoke with Babangida by phone on his sick bed in Germany at about 4.10 p.m. (Nigerian time) on Thursday and that there was no cause for anxiety over his health. All efforts to get through to his media aide, Mr Kassim Afegbua, were unsuccessful, as he neither responded to calls nor to the text message sent to him. |

Rumours are spreading that ace comedian, Baba Suwe, may turn his drug saga in the hands of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, into a comic movie when he is set free. As the comedian prepares to spend another weekend in NDLEA cell, Nigerians on Facebook have already coined hilarious movie titles for him. Script writers are suggesting that he titles his Yoruba movie, Igbe Ayeraye (Everlasting Shit), Igbe ti o common (Uncommon Shit) or Moyagbeti (Couldn’t Shit). Others are advising him to choose Igbe togbayi (Shit of Prestige), Igbe Shoro (Difficult Shit), Igbe ti aye nduro de (The Expected Poo), Igbe ti ki tan (Poo that doesn’t finish) and Igbe t’owon (Expensive Poo). Some script writers titled it “The Last Shit”, “The Expensive Shit”, “Another Shit”, or “Drug Shit”. With the disclosure this morning by Mitchell Ofoyeju, NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, that Babatunde Omidina, Baba Suwe’s real name, will remain under observation, hilarious titles for the drug saga movie are likely to skyrocket, giving the comedian a good laugh and a wide range of options and writers to choose from. |

NDLEA Sings New Tune? print The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, may have started singing a new song on why they have detained ace comedian, Baba Suwe, for nine days now, according to an online report published early today. Baba Suwe The report quoted Mitchell Ofoyeju, NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, as saying that the drug suspicion was concocted by the media and not the agency. “We have never told anybody that he carried drugs in his body. Baba Suwe is under observation just like it has been the case with every other suspected Nigerian passengers, the law is no respecter of anybody, we don’t want to speculate about anything and we will make a comprehensive press conference on the case after we conclude our investigation. “We are still investigating the case; we’ll address the press as soon as we conclude our investigation on the matter. We are not going to say anything until we conclude our investigations. Like I said before, we have never said Baba Suwe was arrested for drug, it is the media that are writing this, we never said he was arrested for drug,” Ofoyeju told www.huhuonline.com. When P.M.NEWS contacted him today on this volte face by the NDLEA, Ofoyeju said: “We reasonably suspect him and we are investigating him. But he is innocent.” Ofoyeju had issued many press statements in which he said that Baba Suwe was being held on drug suspicion. |

LAGOS — A Nigerian actor known for his comedic roles has found himself in a real-life absurdity: His bowel movements are being dutifully reported on front pages after he was detained for suspected drug trafficking. Following two -- some say three -- bowel movements after being detained for allegedly seeking to transport drugs in his stomach while boarding a plane to Paris, the actor known as Baba Suwe has so far come up clean. The country's drug agency has issued press releases on the actor's first two "excretions," while Nigeria's national newspapers have earnestly reported the facts. A doctor gave a television interview on Wednesday explaining the workings of the intestines. The saga began when the actor, whose real name is Babatunde Omidina, was detained on October 12 as he was about to board an Air France flight to Paris. He "allegedly tested positive to drug ingestion," the agency said. It hit the front pages of newspapers and captured the public's attention, with the actor known for his roles in films produced by the country's prolific Nollywood movie industry. On Friday, the agency reported that his first "excretion" revealed no drugs. In a statement on Saturday reporting on the actor's second bowel movement, the drug agency said it was "calling on members of the public to exercise patience pending the outcome of investigation activities." Newspapers reported that a third bowel movement has since occurred which also has not contained drugs. A spokesman for the agency declined comment on Wednesday. One of the drug agency's statements sought to explain the process. "We have in the past recovered drugs after the fourth excretion," the statement said. "It is just the normal process for all passengers." |
Juan Carlos Gomez was sweating, disoriented and dizzy as he arrived at Miami International Airport from Bogota, Colombia. When customs officials asked him what was wrong he said he'd been drinking liquor all night. Because his breath didn't smell like alcohol they suspected he might be smuggling narcotics within his body. Gomez suddenly collapsed and was rushed to hospital. In the ambulance he confessed to swallowing capsules containing cocaine, but by then it was too late. At the autopsy the medical examiner extracted 48 intact pellets from Gomez's intestines. They also found an additional pellet which had burst, leaked into his body and killed him. See photos after the jump. Police are waiting a post mortem examination after which they will be able to say what really caused the death of 44-year-old Turkeyen resident, Campton Jackson. Reports are that the man turned up at the Georgetown Public Hospital sweating profusely and complaining of chest pains at around 19:30 hours on Tuesday. This newspaper was informed by a reliable source that after being treated Jackson related to a doctor that he had ingested several pellets filled with cocaine about a week ago and that he was unable to excrete them. Having been told this, sources at the hospital said that doctors tried their best to save his life but from all indications the pellets had already burst. After being treated for hours Jackson, succumbed at around 00:05 hours yesterday. When Jackson was pronounced dead, blood was oozing from his nose and mouth. The Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, wants Samson Siasia sacked as Eagles coach after he failed to qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup. https://pmnewsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Stephen_Keshi.jpg Stephen Keshi MTNFootball.com reported early today that the committee, headed by Chris Green, also recommended that former coach of the Hawks of Togo, ex-international Stephen Keshi be appointed in a caretaker capacity before a competent foreign coach is hired for the country’s international team. The committee believes that shopping for a foreign coach may take longer than necessary with the Eagles due to play a 2013 Nations Cup qualifier in January. According to top officials, Siasia has a four-year contract, which clearly stipulated that he qualifies Nigeria to at least the semi-final of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations for it to remain valid. Last Saturday, the Eagles failed to reach even the Nations Cup finals for the first time in 25 years. Besides not meeting this target, his managerial and technical skills were also questioned. “It’s obvious that this man cannot handle this team,” said a top technical committee member in reference to the highly publicised spats Siasia got into with some of the Eagles top stars like Osaze Odemwingie and Vincent Enyeama. The Aminu Maigari-led executive committee of the NFF is now expected to meet next week to deliberate on these recommendations. http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2011/10/14/keshi-tipped-to-replace-siasia/ |
ews reaching us that the legal luminary to the detained Nollywood actor and drug peddler, Babatunde Omidina is said to have confessed to the agents of NDLEA that his client mistakenly swallowed the substance. Well, I think the NBA too should mistakenly revolt the lawyer's license. Our source alleged that Baba Suwe has promised to corporate and help the anti-drug agency in their investigation to nab those behind the illicit deal that led to his arrest. Information emanating from another source says there is a secret move by a powerful politician in Lagos to get Baba Suwe out of the disgrace he brought upon himself. We are waiting and as soon as there are more updates, we'll keep you posted. |
sunny_2011:That is the latest gist |
Crying like baby ![]() |
The arrest of Nollywood comic actor, Babatunde Omidina over hard drug is the latest gist in town at the moment. The widower who was arrested on his way to Paris a fortnight ago, we scooped, has excreted over 16 pellets of cocaine last night. A source in the anti-drug agency said that the controversial drug peddler cum Yoruba actor has already excreted some of the drugs he ingested while a large quantity is still lodged in his abdomen. Another reliable source said the suspect has been given a cup of tea to drink that will enable him excrete the remaining drugs while he has been placed on observation. If you recall, this same offence was committed by Baba Suwe about two years now but he had his way out of the situation and called it 'mere rumour' but it's so obvious now that what he tagged as rumour then is now a reality. Baba Suwe, we learnt, has been crying like a baby and pleading for forgiveness but all his pleas are to no avail. While serious investigation is going on to know how he came about it, some top marketers are alleged to be busy inducing officials of NDLEA with huge bribe to get him out of the dragnet. We gathered. We shall keep you posted as event unfolds. |
