Hi all. So, concerning visa interview date, if I chose a car date now, is there a possibility that I can change it if I see another date? And how will I know when better dates are available when i already chose a date

1. @Lawal1555 Do you mean that The husband Form I-20 stipulates or mandated him to bring his wife and kids along for support in the first 2-3 weeks OR That is what you think the husband is going to tell the consular?

2. Okay what about a single PhD applicant that has not married ? Besides all schools are in session right now so the kids re supposed to be in school .

3. Aside that , the consular will calculate the flight ticket for the wife and kids who want to use just 3 weeks as unnecessary spendings for someone going to use US tax payers funds for his study for free .

4. Okay how is he going to proof home ties ? Thank you for your observation. I want to learn from your response . Perhaps , may be a new law states that all phd applicants must travel along with wife and kids ?

Now, Tunji, this home tie issue seem really dicey. For someone that’s not married yet, and he’s not working before he went for his F-1 visa interview, how will this person show enough home tie? And she has full funding for PhD. Should the person indicate in his DS-160 that he’s married? Because tbh, marriage seem like the only reasonable home tie I won’t lie

*** Follow the advice of @bigfrancis21 which i am also going to expound further .


1. The worst her present school could do is to terminate her Form I 20 , while she still have 5-months of grace (SEVIS rules) before USCIS terminates her SEVIS.

2. Even , a terminated SEVIS can be transfered if your new school (DSO) agree to accept the terminated records and assist in the student's reinstatement. Your new school only needs to talk to the former SEVIS Coordinator.

3. She should quickly go to her present DSO and talk about possible transfer and other helps . She should be humble, feel remorse and cry for help because all International Student Visa Powers lies on DSOs (both present and new).

4. If all her efforts failed in transfering and appealing to her present DSO, there is till hope . Her only option is to take admission in another University or college and exit (this is a must) USA and re-enter to get her SEVIS activated.

5. She should talk to her family and friends for possible Mexico connection . F1 student visa holders can live in mexico temporarily if she doesn't want to come back to Nigeria.

6. She would then returned back to the United States on a new SEVIS ID. She will use her present F1 visa together with her new USC I-20 to enter the U.S.– even if the SEVIS numbers (on her present f1-visa) do not match. But she must still pay the SEVIS fee to activate the new USC I-20.

You’re correct on all these points (I’m starting to thing you work as a DSO in a US school lol) except the last one which we need to really look at..

On number 6, some quarters says (even some DSO say so when asked) that they can use the old Visa to re-enter after terminating the SEVIS so far they now have a new SEVIS and a new i20 and it doesn’t matter if school changes—- which is what you’ve said here too.. and I’ve seen some people on quora did it this way and they enter

However, some school DSO advise that they get a new visa from their country..!_ and no one know which opinion is valid tbh

If I chose a far appointment date that I can see on my profile right now for my F-1 visa interview, is there a chance that I can see a near date soon when I try to use the reschedule option?
And does the reschedule option also has limit to how many times we can check per day?

Nigerian men have been victims for a long time. Most send their wives to school, get them jobs, provide and live solely for their wife alone in Nigeria, and then after relocating to the western world; their wife - who supposedly believe that Nigeria patriarchy system has kept her in check for long and didn’t allow her to succeed more than her husband - can’t just wait to show these men shege banza. Some of these men use their own money to relocate their own wife abroad to meet another man who she loves and who has been waiting for her. These women do not love their husband, but poverty can’t allow them to leave these men in Nigeria. Now in abroad, they work and have money and can’t wait to leave.

Now, the question is, is it necessary to tell ur wife when you’re about to leave the country? Knowing fully well that you don’t want to take her to the abroad: either she remains in Nigeria or she find her way abroad too.

1. I have written it several time that having 1000% scholarship plus the school paying for your flight ticket and housing does not concern the Visa officer , but some will say Oyotunji is against scholarships .

Please I need you all advice and contributions..
I was denied an F2 visa, middle of December 2023 at Abuja USA embassy because I wasn't able to prove STRONG HOME TIES according to the slip that was handed over to me..
Then I reapply immediately to Abuja embassy again which it took almost a month plus some weeks for them to approve me (details in the photo attached) in scheduling for a date..
And since then haven't gotten a date up to now.. is this my problem, what are the way forward?
This morning have changed from Abuja to Lagos because I now work very close to Lagos maybe there will be date.. is anything wrong with that?
And have there been any F2 date within December last year to this moment ? maybe just me alone not seeing date..
Please guys I need your contribution 🙏

I think he used their national college rankings on USnews or other websites to compare. But I believe UMD is more prestigious than UF. A comparison of their tuition cost, alumni network, average post-graduation salary, faculty size/ratio etc. puts UMD higher than UF. But well, opinions defers, so no one is absolutely right or wrong.

Congrats, Slimzy! It's a thing of joy to be in your situation: having the opportunity of picking between two great offers. I will advise you to make your personal research and add with opinions you get here (and/or other forums) then go with your intuition. National college ranking: UMD (46). UF (98)

Base on location however, Gainesville where UF is located might be more safe in term of security than UMD location in college park (college park is still safer than we’re UMBC is located in Baltimore). However, Gainesville is quite boring, and there is really not much going on there.. u can’t compare Gainesville to Miami, Orlando and some other places in orange county FL. Better opportunities too in Orlando and Miami than Gainesville (in fact nowadays, Miami-Orlando is only an hr+ train away as a private transport company just have their train service recently)… so it really his choice. I prefer Florida due to better opportunities after graduation just that schools in Florida don’t pay as much and cost of living is insanely high in FL

UF is rated higher than UMD although UMD has one of the best CS programs. You should look at where you want to live for 3years, cost of living, program fit, etc

Is this a joke? Or do you mean UMBC or UMD? If you mean UF ranks higher than UMBC, you’ll be right. But University of Maryland ,College park (UMD) is no UF mate. University of Maryland Baltimore county (UMBC) and UMD are both in Maryland however.

Go for your interview alone. When you’re in the U.S., you can book your wife’s appointment for December so it would look like she is coming to spend the Christmas with you.

You can’t be using the funding given to you as a bandwidth to extend to family. Your funding is not guaranteed as there are requirements you have to meet to keep it. Programs lose funding as well, although rarely, but it happens.

Countless are in my class with better or top scores, yet graduands of public schools. The way you guys glorify private school sha, OP, Gerrard59, is culpable, with some snide remarks on public universities...

If I tell you how National bodies presidents, like federal Anatomy and Physiology topmost bodies, are some of my lecturers, underlining the degree of national and regional administrative academic leaders I'm open to learning from. If I tell you how high the standards are. If I tell you how private schools try to lure these people, yet they stay, and only do part-time with them.
