^^^if you hate reading the dumb story why do you have to waste your time to comment on it? why not just move on and stop showing you are actually dumber than the story. |
This is a fantastic read for anyone that has the patience to go through the thread. While going through the thread, I have gotten a good business idea and also come up somewhat with some thoughts of my own concerning this ASUU strike. I was once a victim of ASUU strike and even back then I was always in support of the actions of ASUU then and even now because of the decay in the educational system. What I find annoying and amusing is why ASUU bulges everytime, what I have always clamoured for is for them to holdback till all the demands are met. Enough of royal fathers and religious leaders placating on behalf of the federal government and pleading with ASUU to resume work. It has never worked and it will never work, its a known fact (albeit shamefully) that the Nigerian government does not stick to its words! I hope this strike lingers on and ends once and for all. Even if it takes two years as long as the end justifies the means so be it. I know alot of children will suffer but at this stage if they go on and call of the strike without any concrete plans from the federal government to re develop the educational sector then ASUU leaders do not really know what they want. We can all sit here and talk about how bad the federal government is but now to the ASUU case, if the federal government shold accede to the demands of ASUU they should also include a performance clause into what ever MOU they sign, put correct checks and balances in place to curtail the obvious excesses of the NIgerian lecturers. Setup a committee/board that will look into cases of molestation of students and also lecturers who feel aggrieved with the system. I will spare the readers some of these excesses but we all know them. That way a lecturer knows he is not above the LAW since in most cases there are no laws guarding the lecturers TO the issue at and and a resolution to the problem. I will suggest the lecturers be ready for a pay cut (as it seems the federal government cannot really fund education in its entirety which is quite obvious as there are many lingering problems that facing education alone will be catalytic on the environment. As harsh as this may sound, parents must begin to bear some cost of education. We can have a tier structural system whereby a student pays 50 40 30 and 20 percent of his/her schools from year one to the finals. Also universities can do away with some support staffs in exchange for students doing this roles and in turn using their salaries to pay for their school fees and also have something to save for themselves. Also the federal government can set-up a bank or set-up a framework whereby students can access interest free loans to pay for their tuition fees, in exchange that the bank will be with the original copy their certificates. It is obvious the federal government cannot fully pay for the cost of education in the country and the best way to go about this is having a tiered structured paying system (whichever way it pleases everyone). Private individuals can be brought in to fund varsities with the option of being part owners and setting up a framework whereby the part owners will get their money over a stretch of time. Some of these ideas are quite ambiguous right now but I will expatiate later if clarifications are needed. There are many other solutions at hand that can help reduce the incessant ASUU strike. I believe our think within the box attitude is what is still making ASUU go on strike while we agree that the sum required to resuscitate the ailing Nigerian educational system is gargantuan a fit all solution exists though everyone will have to bare the cost of this solution. Both the parents, the federal goverment and the lecturers themselves. ... p.s: I just had to put this down now before it flies off, I need to run off will come back and edit. if you do not get some of my pls bear with me. |
Acidosis: All I see is a well structured toilet mismanaged inappropriately by a team of dirty girls who lack maintenance cultureAnd the girls are the ones that made the doors rot? I am sure if the school management had gotten good cleaners and functioning water pipes it wont be this bad! Some of these hostels go for as much as 2 weeks without water and the students have to trek to go and fetch water just to bathe. Will you stil expect them to go and fectch same water just to wash the toilets? e To me this is just a case of negligence on the part of the school authorities which is peculiar to Nigerians and like someone said earlier Lack of Maintenance culture. What a shame! |
Wow the Windows Phone is not really catching up in Nigeria, I have been using a windows phone for the past 3 months and I must say the experience has been worth it from the word go. It does not have a native Instagram app but other developers have tried in this regard. There is 6tag which quite awesome as it allows you to both download and upload and sign up with Instagram. Windwos phone might not have as much apps as the IOS or the Android but there are enough complimentary apps on the store too. What microsoft has done spectacularly well is the UI of the OS I must say they have done really well, as the navigation is quite splendid and I can only see the acceptance growing. Also there is a new upgrade that brings radio functionality for users of the 620,520, 720 and 920. One of my favourites apps on the windows phone platform is the Bing, as it brings life news, allows for bar code scanning and also functions just like Shazam. All in one app. I must commend Microsoft for the Bing app as it totally blew me away. I use a Nokia windows phone and Nokia as done magnificently well in developing native nokia app for the phone. There is Nokia music with free music streaming (region dependent) and Nokia Cinemagraph, Nokia Panorama both are great photography apps. Also windows phone come with native Microsoft Office mobile for easy editing of office documents, though I must say it is useful for basic functions. Below are some of the apps I have on my phone, if you have any you can share pls do not hesitate to do so. Whatsapp ----------------------------Instant Messaging (they have been dropping nice updates unlike previous version) Viber ------------------------------- Instant Messaging as well (hardly use it as all my friends are already on whatsapp) Facebook ------------------------- Almost all platforms have this as well Twitter-----------------------------Social Networks UC Browser-------------------------------By far the best browser on the platform (thats from my point of view) a new upgrade was just released. Nokia Express-----------------------------Mobile browser from nokia.... Also packs a lot of fucntionality and its handy when mindful of data usage (as encryption technology embedded) Nokia Cinemagraph.-----------------------...good Photography app 6Tag----------------------------------great Instagram app Adobe-----------------------------------document viewer (use this to read my pdf books on my fone) Angry Bird Roost -----------------------game CNN------------------------------------News ESPN Hub-----------------------------Soccer news Fantasy football-----------------------To manage my fantasy team Film Closet---------------------------To watch latest movies triller (saw the triller of Now you see me) before I went to see...totally awesome!! Gidi traffic---------------------------traffic update Goal.com------------------------------Soccer update Google Maps+ Here Maps, Drive and Transit---------Nokia map and navigation apps...awesome combination Internet Explorer.-----------.-------..browser LinkedIn----------------------------Social Network Music Match--------------------------lyrics and media player Oxford Dictionary----------Dictionary Photosynth....--------------photo editor Shazam-------------------Already downloaded this before I knew Bing could also do it Skype---------------------Voice and video calling Soccer Livescore----------Soccer Livescores with statistics, lines ups and head to head (good for those that bet) ![]() Team Viewer-------------Remote desktop connection Twitter------------------Social Network WeChat------------------Instant Messaging Youtube------------------Viewing video Also I must add there are tons of other games I have nt listed, temple run 1, Sqaure 0ff, Bounce e.t.c that are worth playing. wpcentral.com is also a good site to get the latest happenings around the platform |
@OP now I understand you better, It would really be hard to know which field most of these IT training institute are good at unless you know someone who has gone for the training there and he/she will be better placed to tell you more about their trainings, for Cisco courses I know some centres rely mostly on Packet Tracer and GNS3 which is a a bit of a scam on the students taking those courses there. I know TTC mobile has this telecoms training class that is popular and reknowned in Lagos, a friend that attended said it was quite ok. If possible for any course you choose try go for a personal trainer/small class settings. from my experience those small centres with just the trainer/owner are usually better since the owner/trainer most times tend to focus more on their core competence than other fields, you will find those classes are way better than some expensive centres and need I say the small centres are usually cheaper than the big ones (NIIT, New Horizon e.t.c.). It is quite true that in IT you must have basic to medium and in some cases advanced understanding of more than one field to get jobs but at the end of the day you will be strong in some areas and weak in others. @ExcitedJay there is nothing bad in going for the training if you have the time and the money to go for it, it saves the time of cracking your head reading for the courses, in tutor led classes there is the ready made tutor to answer your questions for you and CBT nuggets also has the draw back of you not being able to answer any questions you might have since you can't ask the video questions. I have noticed that I am not too good with the cbt videos as I tend to get bored easily while watching them so i tend to mostly focus on reading the books but you know in this present obodo Lagos and work stress as well it is not easy reading on your own, if I have the option and resources I will always pick the tutor led classes any day any time. It makes life a whole lot easier and you won't have to stress yourself too much ![]() Take the rice and throw out the shaff! |
@OP Imagine you want to become a doctor and you want to be a surgeon, gynecologist, optician, chemist at the same time? That is what your first post conveyed. @ledafaze has tried by explaining to you through the Linux platform, but just to add to what he has said. For system administration, I will suggest you go for Microsoft certifications aftter which you will become an MSCA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate) as this is one of the most popular administration Operating Systems in Nigeria, it deals with using Windows Server 2003. 2008. 2008 R2 and most recently 2012. Also if your preference is for administration then I will suggest you drop the idea of TTC mobile Telecoms training. As for the trainings you should go for, I will suggest you start with CCNA atleast to build the core networking concept, a wide course but it is a good foundation for every I.T. professional. Also if you are chanced you can check up www.coursera.org and register for any of their online classes on Computer Networks. After you might have earned your CCNA, you can then go for either for microsoft or linux system administration trainings. The microsoft certifications are cheap, 8500 or so for each exam and you are to write 3 exams to become fully certified. As for LInux I think @Ledafaze has given the link to the exam. As for the Oracle it also deals with management but this time you will work more with databases. Also a god career path. To address your security role, I think after you might have done some of these courses and relate it with your job role you can now decide whether you want to go into either security, audit or information systems management, depending on which one you feel will advance your career. For Security you can start looking at CISM (Certified Information Security Manager) or CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) and for audit you will be looking at CISA (Certified Infomation Systems Auditor) and for Information systems management you can look into ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) or COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology). There are other fields I have not mentioned because as you learn you will come across some technologies that also have their certifications and it will be left to you to determine if you wan to acquire those certifications or not. |
@bakareaat. Please I would like to ask you some questions......i would send you a mail. |
@bakareaat. I would like to ask you some questions......i would send you a mail. |
@OP congratulations on your graduation, You won't be taught anything related to Microsoft office in the university while studying computer engineering. if you you really love computer engineering then go for it, I would surely like to know why you want to study computer engineering and what your aspirations are, e.g what you want to do after graduation, work full time or go into lecturing. While computer engineering is a good course of study Microsoft office will not necessarily aid i you in your course directly, anyway but you may never know. If you would go for the training, I will advise you focus more on Excel (a very powerful tool) and try as much as possible to understand what you have paid for. For most people that do the training they tend to forget what they were taught after 2 years but at least they understand the basics. Most entry level jobs in Nigeria will require you to know at least how to use the Microsoft word. If the time you will spend at home before gaining admission is far, it would be good to go for the training (most IT schools have become an adult jeki ile osinmi) so it would be good to acquire more knowledge. |
is that really hard to figure out? |
@owo....careers@vetiva.com I am not sure they are recruiting right now, just mae sure your cv indicate your class of degree |
So how come all those of us that played FPS games while growing up did not also kill our parents? How come people don't use "the devil made me do it" slogan any longer? Na game dem wan dey lie untop? Before you know it, Nigerian mothers will go about smashing xbox and Playstation game consoles. I am imagining the line going **before you turn my son's headand make him kill me I will kill you first** |
To really get to know the best browser one needs to open a content heavy web page and see how fast it loads on each browser. For me functionality does it, I presently use Mozilla but I have Opera, Chrome and Internet explorer installed. I have found out that anytime I restart my system after hibernating, Chrome hangs and will remain unresponsive for long periods. Though I can't take away the simplicity of the browser, the fact that it allows me to view much larger contents on a single page is a huge attraction for me. Opera with their tabs and lower screen panels takes like one third of the screen which is one of the reasons I stopped using Opera. Opera has its own attractions, it has in built torrent down-loader, a faster download manager compared to Mozilla and chrome. The notepad is one feature I would love to see in other browsers, it makes copying of contents and saving of email address relatively easy and add to the fact even if you mistakenly shut down your system the contents are automatically saved is quite wonderful. No doubt Opera is features packed, compared to Mozilla and Chrome(though with some add-ons you might get some of this functionality in other browsers as well) but the viewing content part is a huge let down for me. Also my mozilla crashes alot with the error message "" A plugin has stopped this page from responding"" but I think I have settled for both Chrome and Mozilla because of the relative ease of use and larger viewing experience of both browsers. I dont know why I just don't dig internet explorer maybe because earlier versions were not as user friendly as other browsers. All in all when it comes to speed I think Chrome takes the lead, but what I have not really tested is the Opera Link ( the feature that allows Opera to compress web pages) but opera is also a good browser. but for me Chrome and Mozilla does it. |
I hope they are caught and also r***d using an iron rod through the anus. Maybe that will serve as deterrent to other weaklings like them |
@OP every organisation that has a computers and has an IT department will definately employ an ICT graduate. ICT roles in most job specification is equivalent to computer science in Nigeria. There are boundless opportunity as long as you have the zeal and know what you are doing. Moreover I don't think you should be asking this kind of question in this era. Anyway almost all major, small and medium scale enterprises have IT departments and also depend on them for the smooth running of their businesses. just to water your mouth, you can start with oil companies, banks, telecom companies, hospitals (government owned as well), insurance companies, ICT companies as well as food and beverage companies as well. To satisfy my curiosity...Please why are you asking ? |
@uju you must feel quite on top of the world with these your holier than thou attitude! If you had enough patience and simple reasoning ability you would have seen where the OP said they (PARENTS) already have issues, which is the primary reason why she does not want to tell the parents so as not to bring up any issue. if she was not concerned she wont come here and seek advice. I am really refraining myself from insulting you, if you don't have any constructive thing to say move along and don't write anything, its not a race to comment neither is it a must for to comment on all threads. Whatever reason your mind might have conjured to question the Ops upbringing skills is so ill thought of. OP telling her child to help check up on the little kid is just to make sure everything is alright with the kid. I won't be surprised if you have never seen an allergic reaction before. A piece of advice always read posts well before always jumping to conclusion. if I were you I would probably apologize to the OP for calling her wicked and selfish. Because its an online medium does not give you the audacity to insult people!!! |
subscribed...nice one jarus thumbs up....how I hope this can get more popularity so that teeming unemployed graduates can tap into and learn from this. Kudos once again Jarus! |
wont the story be eye catching if the caption of the story reads " British 14 year old boy sexually Assaults his teacher? |

@OP like AJ has rightly said, if you have the funds and patience you can definately add more value to yourself. I think your best bet will be to leave the entry level jobs for now, those that have better degrees will probably get more attention than yours, but if there is any opening that does not require a degree, apply and try as much as possible to read up for the interview. What I will suggest is that you focus your energy more on adding value to yourself, and like a poster up there wrote, you can learn more about the softwares (by attending trainings and writing certification exams) that are relevant to your field and be patient and most especially be ready to work freelance even if it is where you have gone for your training. You can always tell them you want to come there every day after your training might have ended just to learn more and also help out in some daily tasks. You will have to eat the humble pie and try as much as possible to learn and also earn the relevant certifications and afterwards you can start searching for entry level jobs that require a year or two years experience jobs. It will be a long process that requires perseverance and hard work, you will really have to put your heart into what ever you are learning as it will probably be your best shot. Another advice is do not look at your friends who are making more money now (they probably earned it by having better grades) focus more on what you are studying and chiefly believe in yourself. p.s: I hope you have the funds to undertake it, if possible convince your sponsor on the profitability of earning a certification(if applicable) in such software |
@Ayo please how come you went for the interview the same day the article was posted? |
@OP the world is at your feet, with your mathematics there are oppurtunities abound everywhere, but I think the best advice in the form of question is graduate with a good grade and you don hit jackpot ![]() Statistics, Data Analysis, Business Analyst, ICT (since the basis of Computing is mathematics) accounting firms and banks industry are some of the roles/places you fit into and moreover since you are (I am supposing here) a new graduate most companies will readily take anyone with good grades as an entry level employee what now matters is what you really want to do as a person. With Mathematics and good grades most companies will always take a second look at your cv as long as your state your good grades there. |
^^^ You are right on the aspect of migration and just seeing vmotion, hmm... it looks interesting (migrating a functional virtual OS without downtime). Thanks for the heads up man, really appreciate . |
Having a good command of sentence is very important nowadays and it is a vital ingredient in securing a job. If you cant express yourself how will yo be able to communicate your ideas, opinion or knowledge to the interview? Like the OP has correctly said, some posts are quite lacking in this regard. However i think its a societal thing and this I belief stems from a weak foundation in the teaching of the language. I have a friend who is an A student and is command of the language is not too good, yet he is very brilliant, and from my observation is primary education was not too good. I think right now the government should pay more emphasis on Primary education in the country. Not to deviate from the topic, It is a very important criteria when choosing a candidate (at least that is what I feel, maybe the HR's in the house can shed more light) |
@Op mikkybrick and skywalker great insights you guys have given and have been following the thread for awhile. while still being a newbie I can relate with some of the points above. For me I started out with virtualization as an end to a means, couldn't raise the cash to buy a server for home use, then I stumbled on vmware then virtualbox and the game changed (wanted to setup a forest that had multiple domains in different locations so had to integrate with gns3, a frieind actually told me about it and my laptop became a mini forest though not without its snags(plenty sef). That was how I became a virtualization rookie. To the issue of a lot of I.T jobs being lost to I.T i still think the role of the administrator will remain, using the company I work for, we are also migrating to Office 365 online right now, though the mails were hosted on a web mail account. Office 365 truly offers an exciting prospect only if workers can adopt the suite as a whole, but really I still doubt any serious company that takes security seriously will put its emails online after hearing how many subpoenas the US govt issues to Google, Yahoo and Facebook monthly! For start ups the cost of hosting onsite compared to online will probably be too steep and factoring the Nigerian environment (Power Issue) for the small companies but for big corporations I really doubt they would consider migrating to office online, I may be wrong about this anyways. Also the small corporations will still keep their system engineer/ administrator to over see the day to day operations of their networks and since its the major corporations that mostly keep the onsite exchange server perseonnel, only when a big corporation decide to move or when they start adopting an online storage can we really say most of the exchange jobs will go start to vanish. If I may point out internet connectivity in Nigeria is still not comparable to what is obtainable elsewhere so I think major corporations at our end will be skeptical about hosting some of their files online compared to having them onsite. On the long run, I think as long as major corporations do not adopt the online storage rather more jobs will be created by smaller companies who use traditional mails (yahoo, google) migrating to dedicated domain name based accounts, the data centre guys will begin to get more jobs. As i read sometimes back Glo also has its own data centre and also IPNX also has as well. The future looks bright for the data centre world and I really see more jobs being created rather than being lost. Though I might be wrong when this is done in other countries. |
I think the OP made a mistake because its so obvious this article was written by ..... wale soyinka write ![]() |
It is obvious the Egyptians don't know what they want, Now they are calling for the head of the president what this means is that anytime a government makes an unpopular decision the people will go on the streets and call for him to resign Moreover there was no Arab Spring, it was just the dawn of a new morning that will bring endless wars and bloodshed to North Africa. A region that has enjoyed stability for years, I hope this is not true. The North Africans should learn from the experience of east and west African countries that have been through terrible wars and genocide because at the end of it all, No one will be victors when the war ends! |
@op your cv will get you to the gates of your dream job but how well you impress your interviewers and how well you market yourself will land you your dream job. A combination of the following factors, your resume, your knowledge about the field you are being recruited for, the recruiting company, your preparation for the interview and also luck/favor/grace, whichever one you believe are other criteria you have to put into cognizance. My one cent, your cv has already gotten you three interview opportunities immediately you get into the interview room, your cv has done its job the remaining is left to you. I think the other part of landing the dream job is for you to work yourself. prepare very well for the interview, gather as much information as possible (test formats, passing score, read the instructions set out on aptitude test very well and if possible talk to those that have taken the test before) and have a positive attitude when you go for the interview. Best of Luck in your next interview. |
do you have the 4s, if you do how much? |
@OP sorry for your loss, while there may be faults on your side about not getting some security measures in place thats still not an excuse for a man to steal! I sincerely hope you get to see your car again and come here to post the good news for us all, but if you can't I am sure you will hustle and buy a better one but please when you do insure and add a security to it! I will remember you in my prayers! |
qualified: ^ tnx my sister. I wonder why some people dont see anything wrong in a dumb taking up teaching position to teach d future generation.Which will you pick, the teacher with a polished English accent who does not know jack or the teacher with poor english construction and who knows his onions? I would rather choose the teacher with the poor english and tell him to improve and please don't hide under the Positive criticism banner, abi when "I hope he does not intend to teach in Nigeria" become positive criticism? ![]() @Op please pursue your dream ojere! |
