The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at Marquette University invites PhD and Masters applicants to join Dr. Walter McDonald and Dr. Anthony Parolari on a number of recently funded projects related to real-time control of stormwater systems and monitoring of green stormwater infrastructure. Project descriptions are provided below. Evaluating and proposing engineering, policy, and legal options to guide real-time control (RTC) of stormwater infrastructure. The project is funded through the NSF Water Equipment and Policy Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC) located in Milwaukee, WI and presents a unique opportunity to collaborate with academic, water industry, and utility partners. The graduate research assistant will work alongside a Marquette law student to evaluate options for integrating real-time control of stormwater infrastructure into existing engineering regulatory criteria and legal structures. The students’ primary role will be to evaluate the response of real-time controls to proposed design criteria through rainfall-runoff models. Preference will be given to candidates with backgrounds in hydrologic modeling, programming, and/or urban stormwater management. Low-cost real-time controls to improve volume and peak flow mitigation of green infrastructure. The main goal of this project is to develop a low-cost real-time control system that can augment green infrastructure practices to improve volume and peak flow mitigation. The graduate research assistant will work on real-time control development (hardware, software, power, etc.) and field implementation of controls within green infrastructure practices. Strong candidates will have a background in stormwater management and/or electrical and mechanical systems. Evaluating green infrastructure performance through continuous monitoring. The goal of this project is to monitor multiple green stormwater infrastructure practices in order to quantify their long-term performance, identify limiting variables in meeting volume reduction goals, and develop improved metrics for volume retention and peak flow rates of green infrastructure. The graduate research assistant will develop the monitoring plan, maintain monitoring equipment, and collect and analyze data. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in environmental monitoring, stormwater modeling, and/or green stormwater infrastructure. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with the ability to work across disciplinary and institutional boundaries. In addition to the desired project-specific qualifications, the successful candidates will have a Bachelors or Masters degree in civil and environmental engineering or other related field, and excellent written and oral communication skills. The positions may start as early as January 2018 but candidates for Fall 2018 are encouraged to apply. Interested candidates should send a statement of interest and a resume to Dr. Walter McDonald (walter.mcdonald@marquette.edu), as well as complete a graduate school application at http://www.marquette.edu/grad/future-apply.php/. |

TWoods: Lol true. I guess it’s fair to say in my time too, schools happily mailed you brochures, application forms, housing vacancies, city/bus maps, nightlife ideas... all in one big package for free. You got personal calls to tell you that you had been granted admission and your i20, admission letter and fellowship package was mailed to you free. Times have indeed changed and this was a mere 15 years ago. . I salute you sir |

Thank you very much for your input
Can you please explain what you mean by Ace GRE and Toefl.. Do you mean score very High? Yes |

vickertony: Well-done Boss,
Been reading your comments, seems you have experience with graduate admission,i have a few questions to ask you please!
1.I studied Accounting, can i get admission with funding, i graduated with 2.2, i know its upto 3. on naija scale of 5.0,i haven't seen my transcript, so i made the calculations my self, am serving by November, i only have statement of result and no cgpa is written on it. Notthing is impossible just that you need to identify with many schools/faculty to know maybe they have fund for you
2. Will i write GRE, Toefl and Sat all at once to stand a chance of getting funded by the school i apply to and what grades should i aim to stand a chance in all three exams?
You don't need SAT since you are going for graduate studies. Don't just apply for GRE and TOEFL but ace it to stand a funding chance.
3.what are my chances of remaining in the USA after my graduation?I don't want to come back to Nigeria, ever!
I will be worry of getting here first before thinking of that.
4.Am looking at September 2018,when should i start applying for Admission?
Most times preparation is a year to entrance year, so for you the time is now. Register for standardized exams and get your transcript ready. Once you have done that, submit your application on time like before Jan 2018
5.I have this uncle in Missouri, do you think is better i apply to a university in Missouri in terms of Accommodation so as to stay with him,his family and other unforseen expenses?
is he ready to accommodate you? does he stay close to the campus? I suggest you don't start by thinking of getting help from anyone.
6.This my personal Hustle, my parents don't have much money to help me out, what are my chances of ever succeeding, i know some people here are from not so rich family.
That's why you need to ace your GRE and TOEFL in order to get a tuition waiver plus monthly stipend anything short of that may make your life miserable for you if you don't have sufficient money here.
Thanks, patiently waiting for your reply |

Gurus,Please I would like to know your opinion abt flying with Qatar airways this season.Do you guys consider it a safe entry to the U.S considering all this news ongoing abt terrorism and all. Qatar airways have no problem landing in USA, in fact they plan to acquire 10% stake of America Airlines. They only have diplomatic problem with other GCC members. But if you are still skeptical about flying with it other airlines can be booked. |

RichieBasi22: My Dear NL I have just applied for an international passport. I have not written either GRE or IELTS and I will like to apply for a Top Up program or if possible MSc program with my HND in electrical and electronic engineering from YabaTech. Im thinking of having those qualification either in Canada or USA but I need your sincere advice as my family is not financially stable enough to sponsor me. I'm looking at applying spring admission. Please I really need your advice thanks. Jah bless!! Since funding is key in your case, spring admission cycle is not the best because funding is limited compare to fall. The first thing now is to ace your GRE and IELTS since you are aiming for a "top up program". Plan also to evaluate your HND transcript. I've been giving the shayo smiley https://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/party/party0016.gif to approved transcripts since the end of part 1 or so. It just occurred to me that if I look through my posts (7,363 comments in 231 pages), I can make a list containing ids of these members. Then we can use the ids (if still active) to locate their transcripts and make a master visa approved transcripts file starting from part 1 ending to the present transcripts.
Alternatively, if there is any member that needs visa approved transcripts and (s)he's computer inclined and not lazy, (s)he can put the id in the URL to locate the id's profile. With just a few clicks, (s)he should be able to locate the transcript.
I can take my time to compile the list of ids but I would definitely need people who have time to spare to make the master transcript file, if we're going by master file option. Let me know what you guys think about this, if we can make it happen. It will be great to have a combine transcripts from Part 1 to Part 11 though it may look like a textbook but it will worth reading for visa applicants who want to get it right once. In fact no need to compile ids, let just know who and who that are ready to volunteer to avoid people doing the same thing. For me I can compile from Part 1 to 3 using your posts. |
