Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, has claimed he turned down the chance to join Barcelona on loan in January, as he “deserved better” than a short-term deal.

The former Watford striker scored 21 goals for relegated Changchun Yatai in the 2018 Chinese Super League season, which he says attracted interest from the Spanish champions.

But Ighalo felt the nature of the move, was not sufficient to entice him back to Spain, where he had two loan spells with Granada.

“My agent spoke to me about a loan interest from Barcelona. The club wanted a striker with La Liga experience and someone who understands Spanish football.

“It was meant to be a six-month loan and strictly as a back-up striker. It was nice to hear that Barcelona were interested and any footballer would be more than happy to take it.

“But, with due respect, I had just finished as the second top scorer in China with 21 goals, I deserve better and didn’t want to be a short term player somewhere.

“We rejected it, it was an easy decision to make and I chose to stay in China by joining Shanghai Shenhua on a longer contract.

“You need to weigh things up properly in life and ask yourself if it is your call to make, or one to satisfy others.

“I respect my decision. I needed to focus on what is good for my career long term and when you decide to do something – you stay true to yourself. It wasn’t for me and I am happy where I am.

“I have no regrets or whatsoever because I am happy at Shanghai Shenhua. To reunite and play under my former Watford coach [Quique Sanchez Flores] is exciting and I love it,” Ighalo told BBC Sport.

Giggs was part of the Red Devils side that achieved the treble in 1999, a season after Arsenal had won the double.

The two clubs were the best in England at the time, and as a result matches between them were full of passion.

“I didn’t like Arsenal. I didn’t like Vieira because he was dirty and got away with murder. I didn’t like Petit because he had long hair. I didn’t like Bergkamp.

ACtress Etinosa has again spoken on her recent scandal with Sunnews.

Recall the actress was seen stripping naked during a live video with singer MC Galaxy sometime last week.

Speaking on what led to the act, Etinosa told Sunnews that;


“It (the nude video) was (done) under the influence of alcohol. However, the deed has been done. I just had to keep quiet and move on. I can’t explain to everybody what really happened, after all, not everybody is intelligent enough to assimilate and understand certain things. I just had to keep calm and keep my head up high.

“I also don’t think it might affect my chances of getting married someday (laughs). Africa is so freaked about marriage. My dear, if marriage is in one’s destiny it will come.”

On the lesssons learnt, Etinosa said: “If you must drink alcohol, at least do have a friend you trust, who would be with you and seize your phone if things start getting out of hand. She also monitors you, so you don’t do anything stupid. Also, please know your gauge when drinking. Don’t presume you are fine and conscious of your environment. Simply put, drink responsibly.”

On growing up in Edo, she said;

“Growing up was cool. I’m a spoilt child. I got everything I wanted from my parents. My parents were so comfortable. So, I had a very good home. Although, my parents never admitted they had money. “My mum would blackmail us that she wouldn’t live a luxury life because of us, but we know that she always got what she wanted for herself.

We were always going for summer (holiday) abroad and having fun. We weren’t allowed to really go out and mix with other children. It was just home, school and church. It was a great experience. My parents are still alive.”

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has sent the first choice goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho and three others to the U-23 team, Owngoalnigeria reports.

Uzoho, whose error led to the only goal scored by Seychelles in Nigeria’s 3-1 win in their final AFCON 2019 qualifier, will start for the U-23 on Monday, with their first choice goalkeeper Abubakar Adamu suspended following his red card in the first leg.

The trio of Valentine Ozornwafor, Victor Osimhen and Chidozie Awaziem have also been asked to join the squad, ahead of the return leg of their U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.

Manchester United caretaker manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given the club’s executive chairman, Ed Woodward, the list of players to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Daily Star reports that Solskjaer wants Ed Woodward to sell out Antonio Valencia, Marcos Rojo and Alexis Sanchez at the end of the season.

Solskjaer has made a major impression since being put in caretaker charge following former Red Devils boss, Jose Mourinho’s sacking in December.

The Norwegian has won 10 out of the 13 Premier League games since his appointment and reached the Champions League quarter-finals, where they will tackle Barcelona in April.

The 46-year-old had said earlier this week that he is now working as if he will remain at Old Trafford for many years.

According to him,

“It is clear that I am now working as if I will stay at Man United.

“I think of the club five and 10 years ahead of time now as well.”

Solskjaer’s men are currently in the fifth position on the Premier League table with 58 points from 30 games.

Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba, has insisted the club’s decision to fire Jose Mourinho, was entirely down to results and not player power.

Mourinho was fired in December after a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.

However, his failure to get the best out of World Cup winner Pogba, was often cited as a factor in the Red Devils’ poor form.

Interim boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has since revitalised United, with Pogba playing a starring role, scoring eight Premier League goals under the Norwegian.

“What were the issues? We were not winning.

“That’s why they decided to change the head coach.

“The results matter the most. If we were winning, we would have good results and the coach would have remained at his position. That’s all,” Pogba told a news conference, ahead of Friday’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Moldova.

There was pandemonium yesterday at a popular restaurant named University of Amala located at Ejigbo Rd, Idimu, Lagos, as a gas cylinder exploded, injuring many customers.

It was gathered that the owner and her children were also affected in the incident that caused panic in the area. All the victims were later rushed to a hospital nearby.
