Gruop tells PENGASSAN, NUPENG to use check-off dues to build private Refinery

Tracereporters News --The Stand-Up South South Security Group has advised the leadership of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) to utilize the accrued members check-off dues to build a private Refinery for both unions.

In a statement on Monday, issued by Comrade Endurance Ukutegbere, National Secretary, the group gave the advise in view of the recent dispute between management of Dangote Refinery and leadership of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) over unionization of workers in Dangote Refinery and payment of check-off dues.

According to the group, “ Going forward, it has become imperative for PENGASSAN and NUPENG to start planning to build a private Refinery with the check-off dues being paid by members”

“The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), and National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers NUPENG were established the same time in 1977 and 1978 respectively, both unions can pull resources together to build a private Refinery”

The group also alleged that some members of PENGASSAN were handling operation and maintenance in all the NNPCL Refineries, and yet the NNPCL Refineries are not working, who should be blamed? . The FG and NNPCL must stop those sabotaging the NNPC Refineries “

“ Both PENGASSAN and NUPENG have been collecting these check-off dues from members since inception till now, and the accrued dues if properly harnessed may as well be enough to have built or build a Refinery solely belonging to the two unions. This suggestion to PENGASSAN and NUPENG to consider building their own Refinery, it is because there is almost no hope for when the government owned moribund Refineries would come back to life”

It states, “ Therefore, the PENGASSAN and NUPENG can start thinking in the direction of obtaining a Refinery license from the Federal Government. The check-off dues from all members of PENGASSAN and NUPENG can be adequately channeled to building a private Refinery in any part of the Country, preferably, in the oil rich South South region ( Niger Delta)”

The group expressed appreciation to patriotic Nigerians who have built modular Refineries in the country, including Alhaji Aliko Dangote for building the World’s largest single train Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos State, Nigeria.

“We strongly believe that PENGASSAN and NUPENG can put resources together from check-off dues to build a private modular Refinery, which will be of help to its members, create employment, and support the economy. The Nigerians who had the courage and taken the risk to invest in building Refineries in Nigeria, actually did so with a singular aim to free Nigeria from importation of refined products”

“ It is possible that PENGASSAN and NUPENG can also follow this path to build a private Refinery, and we urge the Federal Government and regulatory agencies to consider issuing Refinery license to PENGASSAN and NUPENG”

“ Instead of having a fight with management of Dangote Refinery, the leadership of PENGASSAN and NUPENG should rather compel the Federal Government to revive PH, Warri and Kaduna Refineries”

“ Nigeria is the only Country we have, all citizens irrespective of religion, tribes and political affiliations must contribute and join hands together to build a better Nation for ourselves and unborn generations”

Tracereporters News --The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has lost his mother, Mama Lydia Yilwatda, who passed away at the age of 83 at the Jos University Teaching Hospital. Engineer Andy Yakubu, former Group Managing Director of NNPC, and Dr. Peter Deshi, Chairman of the Interim Management Committee of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida International Golf Club, paid a condolence visit to Professor Yilwatda at his residence.

During their visit, Yakubu and Deshi described Mama Lydia as a devoted Christian, virtuous woman leader, and pillar of the Church of Christ in Nations. They expressed shock at her passing, stating that her death is a personal loss to Professor Yilwatda and the entire APC family in Plateau State and across the country.

Mama Lydia, along with her late husband Reverend Toma Goshewe Yilwatda, made significant contributions to the growth of the church in Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Plateau states. The duo prayed for her eternal rest, taking comfort in the legacy she left behind, evident in her accomplished children.

The APC in Plateau State expressed sadness over Mama Lydia's demise, describing it as painful and devastating to the Yilwatda family, especially at a time when her motherly advice and prayers were most needed. The party prayed for God's comfort and peace for the family during this difficult time.

Mama Lydia's legacy extends beyond her family, as she played a significant role in promoting the church and community development. Her passing is seen as a great loss to the Church, Women's Fellowship, and Plateau State.

Various dignitaries, including Senator Lalong, have paid condolence visits to Professor Yilwatda's residence, signing a condolence register and offering prayers for the repose of Mama Lydia's soul. The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, also extended condolences to Professor Yilwatda, assuring him of the party's support during this difficult time.

Group Warns Against Sabotaging Dangote Refinery

Tracereporters News --A group, known as Stand-Up South South Security Group, has issued a warning to those who may be plotting to sabotage the Dangote Refinery.

The group stated that an attack on Dangote Refinery, is an attack to destroy this Country, adding that people must reject the temptation to be used as tools to sabotage Dangote Refinery.

In a statement on Saturday, signed by its National Secretary, Comrade Endurance Ukutegbere, it also advised the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria PENGASSAN, to stop attacking Dangote Refinery over the sack of some workers.

“ PENGASSAN must understand that an employee cannot educate his employer on how the employer will run his company”

“ Our attention has been drawn to the press release issued on Friday 26th September, 2025, by the General Secretary of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria PENGASSAN, against Dangote Refinery”

“ PENGASSAN in its press release , titled, “ Condemnation of Anti-Labour Practices by Dangote Refinery and Ultimatum to reinstate Nigerian Workers”, made unpleasant comments against Dangote Refinery”

According the group, “ Nigerians are still celebrating the building of Dangote Refinery in Lagos state, Nigeria. And this is why every right thinking and patriotic Nigerians must resist any sinister plot to frustrate the operations of Dangote Refinery”

“ PENGASSAN must realize or accept the fact that Dangote Refinery is a private organization, and an investment worth over $20Billions. The Management of Dangote Refinery, have the power to hire and fire”

It said, “ Dangote Refinery has come to stay. The Management of Dangote Refinery are also at liberty to hire qualified persons from across the world to work with the Refinery here in Nigeria. We also have Nigerians hired and working abroad”

The group advised PENGASSAN to leave Dangote Refinery alone, and channel their energy to the Federal Government to revive the govt owned Refineries, where workers are earning salary monthly without working.

“ It is expected that after investing over $20Billion to build the Dangote Refinery, Alhaji Aliko Dangote will restructure the workforce of the company to ensure optimum performance and efficient delivery”

“ And whenever restructuring of workforce occurs in an organization as big as Dangote Refinery, some workers will be sacked, some retained and new persons will be employed to form a new team to achieve the company’s vision, set aims and objectives”

“ Dangote Refinery has done the expected for business sustainability. The company’s decision should be respected, particularly by PENGASSAN. Certainly, it is not the end of life for the workers dropped by Dangote Refinery, they can still search for jobs somewhere else”

Further, the group stated, “ PENGASSAN should not use this to fight unnecessary fight with Dangote Refinery, more Nigerians are still working and benefiting from the Dangote Refinery. We advise PENGASSAN to thread with caution, and withdraw it’s attack on Dangote Refinery because of the workers sacked. More Nigerians would still be employed into the company”

Nigeria's Mining Sector Crisis: MCO Shakeup Exposes Deeper Systemic Rot

By Steven Kefas

The Nigerian Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) is experiencing unprecedented upheaval as Director General Engr. Simon Obadiah Nkom initiates what he terms a nationwide staff transfer exercise. This dramatic shakeup, which commenced on Monday 1st September with headquarters staff being asked to leave, has thrown the already troubled institution into chaos. While Nkom claims these transfers aim to "correct the mistakes" of his tenure with just one year remaining in office, this move raises more questions than it answers about the true state of Nigeria's mining sector governance.

A Pattern of Corruption Laid Bare

The current crisis at the MCO is not an isolated incident but the culmination of years of documented corruption and mismanagement. Our previous investigations have exposed a web of corrupt practices including the systematic issuance of overlapping mining titles, brazen bribery schemes, and the deliberate sabotage of legitimate mining operations. These revelations have sent shockwaves through Nigeria's mining community and attracted unwanted international attention to the sector's governance failures.
The timing of Nkom's "teamfer" initiative is particularly suspect. After years of turning a blind eye to corruption within his organization, the Director General's sudden awakening to reform coincides conspicuously with increased media scrutiny and mounting international pressure. The daily meetings and chaotic office environment described by sources suggest an organization in panic mode rather than one implementing thoughtful reform.

The Transfer Dilemma: Reform or Cover-Up?

The nationwide staff transfers orchestrated by the MCO leadership present a troubling dichotomy. If these transfers represent genuine efforts to address corruption, why are corrupt officials being relocated rather than prosecuted? If Nkom truly knows "the bad ones" as he claims, the appropriate response should be immediate suspension, investigation, and prosecution, not geographical redistribution.
The complaints from individuals "engaged in corrupt practices" about these transfers reveal the entrenched nature of corruption within the MCO. These are not innocent civil servants being inconvenienced by administrative changes; these are individuals whose illicit activities are being disrupted. However, transferring corrupt officials to new locations without addressing their criminal behavior merely exports the problem rather than solving it.
The Federal Government's anti-corruption stance demands more than cosmetic changes. Corrupt officials who have "sabotaged the efforts of the FG" must face the full weight of the law. Anything less sends a message that corruption carries no real consequences, encouraging further malfeasance and undermining public trust in Nigeria's institutions.

Nigeria's Conspicuous Absence at ADU 2025

Perhaps the most telling indicator of the MCO's crisis is Nigeria's glaring absence from the 2025 Africa Down Under (ADU) conference in Australia. For a nation with Africa's largest economy and significant mineral resources, this absence is both unprecedented and deeply concerning. While the Nigerian Ambassador to Australia attended with her assistant from Canberra, the complete absence of any delegation from Nigeria speaks volumes about the current state of the mining sector.
This absence appears directly linked to fears surrounding the ongoing international arbitration proceedings filed by the Jupiter Critical Minerals Project against the Nigerian government. The prospect of being served with arbitration notices has apparently spooked Nigerian officials into avoiding one of Africa's most important mining conferences. This behavior projects weakness and guilt on the international stage, damaging Nigeria's reputation as a reliable destination for mining investment.
The Jupiter arbitration case itself stems from the MCO's chaotic management of mining licenses and the broader governance failures that have characterized the sector under current leadership. When a government becomes so afraid of facing international legal scrutiny that it abandons important diplomatic and economic forums, it signals a crisis of legitimacy that extends far beyond administrative incompetence.

Environmental Catastrophe and Chinese Exploitation

While the MCO focuses on internal reshuffling, Nigeria's mining sector faces an environmental crisis of unprecedented proportions. Chinese mining companies, operating with little regard for environmental safety standards, are systematically destroying ecosystems across the country using outdated and environmentally destructive mining technologies. From the tin mines of Jos to the gold fields of Zamfara, these operations leave behind poisoned water sources, degraded farmland, and communities struggling with the health consequences of irresponsible mining practices.
The MCO's failure to enforce environmental standards has created a regulatory vacuum that predatory operators have exploited. While legitimate mining companies struggle with bureaucratic obstacles and corrupt demands for bribes, environmental criminals operate with impunity, often with the tacit approval of compromised officials within the MCO system.
The human cost of this environmental destruction cannot be overstated. Communities across Nigeria's mining regions report increased rates of respiratory diseases, water-borne illnesses, and agricultural failures directly linked to irresponsible mining operations. Children are growing up in environments poisoned by mercury, lead, and other toxic substances released through substandard mining practices.

The Imperative for Comprehensive Reform

The current shakeup at the MCO, while generating reactions in the organization, falls woefully short of addressing the systemic corruption that has plagued the Mining Cadastre Office. Cosmetic transfers and administrative reshuffling cannot resolve institutional rot that requires surgical intervention. What Nigeria needs is not another round of shifting the deck chairs on the Titanic but comprehensive reform that addresses the root causes of corruption and mismanagement.
An independent investigation into the MCO's activities over the past five years is not just advisable; it is essential for restoring credibility to Nigeria's mining governance. This investigation must examine all aspects of the office's operations, including license issuance procedures, environmental compliance monitoring, and the financial relationships between officials and mining operators. The investigation must be conducted by external bodies with no ties to the current administration to ensure objectivity and thoroughness.
Furthermore, the investigation must have the power to trace financial flows, examine communications between officials and private operators, and assess the true extent of the damage done to Nigeria's mining sector. Only through such comprehensive scrutiny can Nigeria begin to understand the full scope of the corruption and develop effective countermeasures.

A Call for Leadership Change

Engr. Simon Obadiah Nkom's continued leadership of the MCO represents a fundamental obstacle to meaningful reform. His admission that the disabling of the MCO and nationwide transfer of staff is required to remediate the “mistakes” he has made during his tenure as DG is a huge admission of his failure. (To deflect such criticism the claim then follows that his mistake was to accept the cadastre system overseen by his predecessor Mohammed Amate, the pioneering DG of the MCO. Amate, recently deceased, was held in high esteem by all levels of the mining fraternity in Nigeria and in his former roles in the oil and gas sector. Under Amate’s tenure, many current mining operators contend, the cadastre system was workable and was accessible online – both goals the current $60million contract with German company GAF has failed to achieve. Nkom officially launched its new online Cadastre System in November 2022. Three years later the system has been offline more than online with long periods of no public access. At the launch of the new system Nkom stated, “the system will encourage foreign investment in the sector. More people will be able to see that there is transparency, and Nigeria will benefit from these aspects in terms of greater revenue generation.” The promised transparency and foreign investment have not materialized. As to the revenue generation, a 12-fold increase in tenement fees is punishing local Nigerian exploration companies and filling the MCO coffers with “fake” profits.
Nkom’s tenure has been marked by the very corruption and mismanagement he now claims to be addressing. Genuine reform requires fresh leadership untainted by the current crisis and committed to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.
Nkom's resignation is not merely advisable; it is a prerequisite for credible reform. He has already overstayed his term. In late 2022 Nkom convinced President Buhari to renew his term as DG MCO in order to head off the possibility of the next President not renewing Nkom’s appointment. The appointment was confirmed in January 2023 before the Federal election. Nkom’s departure would signal the government's serious commitment to addressing corruption in the mining sector and create space for the independent investigation necessary to chart a new course forward. Continued retention of leadership associated with the current crisis undermines any claims of serious reform intent.

Declaring a State of Emergency

The convergence of corruption, environmental destruction, and international legal challenges facing Nigeria's mining sector demands extraordinary measures. The Federal Government must declare a state of emergency in the mining sector, suspending normal operations while comprehensive reforms are implemented.
This emergency declaration should include the immediate suspension of new mining license issuance, mandatory environmental audits of all active operations, and the establishment of an interim management structure for the MCO staffed by technocrats with proven integrity and experience in the mining sector. Additionally, all Chinese mining operations using substandard technology must be immediately suspended pending comprehensive environmental and safety assessments to be conducted by credible international mining experts.
The emergency period should be used to completely overhaul the regulatory framework governing Nigeria's mining sector, establish robust environmental protection mechanisms, and create transparent, corruption-resistant procedures for license issuance and monitoring. The overhaul should probe why GAF, the German contractor that built the failed cadastre system as a World Bank funded project, has not rectified the dysfunctional system. This is not merely an administrative challenge but a national security imperative that affects Nigeria's environmental sustainability and international reputation.

The Path Forward

Nigeria's mining sector possesses immense potential to contribute significantly to national development and economic diversification. However, realizing this potential requires leadership committed to transparency, environmental responsibility, and the rule of law. The current crisis, while painful, presents an opportunity for fundamental transformation if the political will exists to pursue genuine reform.
The international community is watching Nigeria's response to these challenges. The country's handling of the current mining sector crisis will significantly influence future foreign investment decisions and Nigeria's standing in global mining forums. The choice is clear: continue with cosmetic changes and face continued international isolation, or embrace comprehensive reform and restore Nigeria's position as a responsible mining nation.
The MCO shakeup represents either the beginning of genuine reform or an elaborate exercise in damage control that is compounding as the next election looms. For the sake of Nigeria's future, the government must choose transparency over opacity, prosecution over protection, and genuine reform over political theater. The mining sector's rehabilitation demands nothing less than complete transformation, and that transformation must begin with transparency and accountability at the highest levels of leadership.

PoliticsTambuwal’s Empty Boast: Why He Cannot Deliver Sokoto, Let Alone Unseat Tinubu by lolanews(op): 2:36pm On Sep 14, 2025
Tambuwal’s Empty Boast: Why He Cannot Deliver Sokoto, Let Alone Unseat Tinubu, By Isa Danchadi

Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal says he’s committed to unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027. But in Sokoto, the very state that birthed his career, his record is riddled with broken promises, abandoned programs, and borrowed political structures. If you can’t hold your home-front, how do you claim the nation?

When Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal declared that he was “committed to sending Tinubu out of office in 2027,” the statement rang bold. But boldness without a base is empty rhetoric. And in Sokoto—the very soil where his political career took root—Tambuwal is standing on shaky ground.

A Man Made by Wamakko

Let’s be clear: Tambuwal did not build himself politically in Sokoto. In 2015, it was Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko who carried him into Government House. Without Wamakko’s structure, Tambuwal would have been a bystander, not a governor. That original dependency still haunts him today. He has never truly owned Sokoto politics. Let’s take a peep. The political hullabaloo, beginning from November 20, 2014, was aimed to consume then Speaker Tambuwal. His impeachment was planned, arising from his defections from the PDP to the APC.

Tambuwal’s attempt to contest the presidency under the APC hit the bricks wall because, given the number of more qualified, he was a loser at the cradle. But, then Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko would not let his own down. He pitched the idea of the Sokoto APC’s governorship ticket, and Wamakko’s canopy of accommodation provided the platform for Tambuwal to become governor.

Eight Years, Little to Show

Tambuwal’s tenure as governor is remembered less for transformation and more for stagnation. Roads remained broken, taps remained dry, schools underfunded, insecurity unchecked, and salaries delayed. Sokoto people elected a leader but got a talker. Take the skills acquisition programmes Wamakko started—lifelines for youth empowerment. Tambuwal abandoned them. Thousands of young people were left in the lurch, and with that, a legacy of missed opportunities.

A Visitor in His Own State

Like Johnny Walker, Tambuwal became an itinerant governor, who barely stayed in Sokoto for 72 hours. In fact, it got to a point where, when you saw him at the government house at 6pm, do not be sure he would sleep in Sokoto that day.

Welfare Without Substance

He paraded himself as a champion of the poor, yet retirees groaned for years without their entitlements. Sokoto was consistently listed among Nigeria’s poorest states, but instead of tackling the roots of poverty, Tambuwal dismissed the reports as “inaccurate.” To ordinary Sokoto families struggling to eat, that sounded like mockery, and it was. He was a governor all to himself but not of the people who elected him.

Talking to Bandits, Losing the People

On security, Tambuwal openly admitted his government engaged in “backdoor negotiations” with bandits. That was no show of strength—it was surrender dressed as pragmatism. Rural Sokoto communities remained unsafe, farmers were displaced, and the people lost faith. Pumps of funds into the ‘negotiations’ with the bandits only benefitted him, not his people who he swore to protect.

The EFCC arrest, The Release and the Celebration

On his invitation by the EFCC, Tambuwal, who received ₦168 billion from FAAC but left no trace of meaningful infrastructure has no business being celebrated for merely walking out of EFCC custody on administrative bail. That’s not victory, it’s simply the system buying him time. To roll out drums for such a man is to mistake disgrace for triumph, as though being asked questions about squandered billions is a badge of honour. In this case, the empty roads, abandoned schools, and ghost projects are testimonies more eloquent than any probe. You don’t need handcuffs to prove corruption when the evidence is written all over the state like a scar.

The People Remember

Today, Sokoto’s current administration is prioritizing pensions, social welfare, and rebuilding programs Tambuwal abandoned. And the people see the difference. Voters have long memories. They remember the governor who promised much but delivered little.

The Punchline

Tambuwal may talk big about 2027, but he cannot even guarantee Sokoto votes. Without Wamakko, he has no machinery. Without results, he has no credibility. Without a solid home-front, his dream of sending Tinubu packing is nothing more than political noise.

In politics, charity begins at home. And at home, Tambuwal is already bankrupt.

PoliticsThe Man –his Excellency Malam Nasir Ahmed El-rufai, CON by lolanews(op): 10:59pm On Sep 03, 2025
The Man –His Excellency Malam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, CON

Malam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai is a distinguished Nigerian technocrat, astute politician, and accomplished public servant whose life reflects brilliance, courage, and an unyielding commitment to transformational leadership.

A product of the famous Barewa College, Zaria, where he excelled academically, Malam graduated with First-Class Honours in Quantity Surveying from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

He went on to earn an MBA and other professional and academic qualifications from renowned institutions both in Nigeria and abroad.

Malam began his career as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, establishing El-Rufai & Partners, a thriving practice, before fate drew him into the public sector, making him, by his own account, an “accidental politician.” His entrepreneurial background gave him a strong grasp of economics, governance, and business development.

As Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), he championed strategic reforms and oversaw the successful privatisation of several government-owned corporations. His tenure was marked by transparency, efficiency, and a focus on driving Nigeria’s economic competitiveness.

From 2003 to 2007, as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), he implemented bold reforms that transformed the city’s governance and infrastructure. He pioneered the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS) to modernise land administration and founded the Abuja Enterprise Agency (AEA) to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the FCT — a step that expanded economic opportunities for thousands of competent Nigerians.

Malam also chaired the APC National Committee on Restructuring and Devolution of Power, reflecting his commitment to deepening Nigeria’s federalism and strengthening its democratic structures.

In 2015, he became the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, serving until 2023. His leadership was defined by decisive reforms in governance, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security. Often taking bold, sometimes controversial steps, he turned Kaduna into a modern, investment-friendly state , a transformation whose benefits will endure for generations.

Notable Achievements:

Founded the Abuja Enterprise Agency to promote MSME growth in the FCT.

Pioneered the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS) for modern land administration.

Spearheaded strategic privatisations as Director-General of the BPE.

Chaired the APC National Committee on Restructuring and Devolution of Power.

Implemented landmark governance and development reforms in Kaduna State.

El-Rufai the Humane Star

Even though El-Rufai is a giant of a man in his own right blessed with character, capacity, and capability far above average, he remains both human and humane, with his own strengths and weaknesses, assets and liabilities. His pluses, however, far outweigh his minuses.

Malam’s strong passion for transformational leadership has inevitably earned him adversaries especially among apologists of the status quo, political rivals, and peers threatened by his uncompromising drive for change.

His story is a reminder of the timeless adage: “No one has more enemies than he who works for the truth.”

Kaduna SEMA, NOA Lead Flood Preparedness Campaign in Kawo Community
By Lola Seriki -Idahosa, Kaduna
Tracereporters News --Stakeholders in disaster management have taken flood preparedness campaigns to Kawo community in Kaduna North Local Government Area, cautioning residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in waterways and urging them to adopt safer practices to reduce disaster risks.

The exercise was spearheaded by the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA), with support from Christian Aid, UNICEF and the European Union Humanitarian Aid.

Speaking during the sensitisation exercise on Monday, the Zonal Coordinator of SEMA, Mohammed Shafii, said many flood disasters are preventable if communities take early action and embrace proper waste disposal.

“Most of the floods we experience are due to human activities. People must stop blocking drainages with refuse and those living close to rivers must vacate before water levels rise. Preparedness is the key to saving lives".

On her part, Mrs Aisha Adamu of NOA, Kaduna North said the campaign was aimed at protecting lives and property, stressing that residents in flood-prone areas such as Kigo road, Kabala, Malali, Unguwar Rimi, Rafin Guza and Unguwar Dosa should heed early warnings and move to safer locations.

She disclosed that a rehabilitation centre at Kigo Road had been designated as a temporary shelter for those displaced by floods.

Michael Odache Aboh, Programme Officer, Christian Aid Nigeria emphasized that disaster preparedness, proper waste disposal and adherence to early warning alerts remain critical to reducing the impact of floods in Kaduna State.

Aboh, explained that the campaign was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community resilience against disasters in Kaduna State.

He explained that flood disasters had continued to threaten lives and livelihoods, particularly in urban and peri-urban communities where poor waste management and unplanned settlements are common.

Aboh noted that Christian Aid, in collaboration with UNICEF and the European Union Humanitarian Aid, has been supporting government agencies to scale up awareness on flood preparedness and proper waste disposal.

According to him, awareness at the grassroots was critical because communities are usually the first responders whenever disasters strike.

"We believe that by equipping people with the right information, they can take preventive measures before the flood comes. This is about building resilience, encouraging communities to manage their waste properly, and ensuring that residents know where to move when the water levels rise".

Aboh stressed that disaster preparedness was not only the responsibility of government but also of residents, adding that behavioural change such as stopping the habit of dumping refuse in waterways would go a long way in reducing the impact of flooding in Kaduna.

National Emergency: NIHSA Issues 14-Day Flood Alert for 29 States and FCT

...Over 600 Communities at Risk as Agency Warns of "Moderate to Very High" Flooding, Urges Immediate Evacuation in Low-Lying Areas

By Lola Seriki -Idahosa, Kaduna
Tracereporters News --The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has today, September 1st, 2025, issued a critical national flood alert, warning of imminent and significant flooding across 29 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over the next two weeks. The alert, described as one of the most precise and urgent in recent times, urges millions of residents in 631 communities to take immediate proactive measures to protect lives and property.

The agency specifically highlighted that 107 Local Government Areas (LGAs) are in the direct path of potential disaster, with flood risk levels ranging from "moderate to very high." The warning includes the potential for severe river overbanking, flash flooding, and widespread inundation, particularly in riverine and low-lying communities.

This dire prediction is based on real-time hydrometric data, river-stage forecasts, and satellite mapping, confirming projections made in NIHSA's earlier 2025 Annual Flood Outlook (AFO). The alert identifies over 50 critical transport and infrastructure points that could face severe disruption, threatening major highways and bridges and potentially cutting off communities.

The expected impacts of the flooding are severe and multifaceted. Beyond the immediate threat to lives and the destruction of property and livelihoods, the disaster poses a significant risk to agriculture and public infrastructure. A major secondary concern is the contamination of water sources, which could lead to a public health crisis in the affected areas, exacerbating the initial disaster.

In response to the looming threat, NIHSA has issued urgent recommendations for all tiers of government and citizens. It has called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs) to immediately activate their contingency plans, deploy response teams, and pre-position relief materials.

Local Government authorities and community leaders are tasked with intensifying public sensitization campaigns, identifying safe evacuation routes, and preparing shelters for potential displacees. Operators in the transport and utility sectors have been advised to secure vulnerable assets and reinforce critical infrastructure to ensure the continuity of essential services.

Most critically, NIHSA has a direct message for residents in the listed areas: move to higher ground where necessary, avoid driving or walking through flooded roads, and strictly adhere to all official safety instructions and evacuation orders. The agency's final advisory is stark: "Citizens are advised to stay alert!!"

List of affected states
The 29 states under alert are: Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara, in addition to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Kaduna Government Issues Warning to El-Rufai Over Alleged Plot to Incite Violence

By Lola Seriki -Idahosa, Kaduna
Tracereporters News --The Kaduna State Government has issued a stern, final warning to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of engaging in a calculated plot to destabilize the state and incite violence following his faction's recent electoral defeats.

The government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Suleiman Shuaibu, alleged that El-Rufai's actions, including convening an illegal meeting that turned violent and making reckless accusations on national television, are direct threats to the state's hard-won peace. It vowed to use the full weight of the law against anyone, "no matter how highly placed," who threatens the state's stability.

A primary point of contention is El-Rufai's recent claim on Channels Television that both the federal and state governments are "bribing bandits." The government labeled this a "calculated, malicious lie" designed to undermine security efforts and incite public anger. This allegation was firmly debunked by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), which stated no agency of the federal government engages in such practices.

The government directly linked El-Rufai's alleged destabilization efforts to the resounding defeat of his political surrogates in the August 16 bye-elections. It stated that rather than accept the democratic outcome, El-Rufai has "chosen to respond with sabotage," specifically pointing to a chaotic meeting on August 30th that involved gunshots, which El-Rufai falsely blamed on government-sponsored thugs.

Contrasting El-Rufai's tenure with the current administration, the statement described his time in office as being "characterised by ethno-religious division, disregard for human life, and a climate of fear." It accused him of pitting citizens against each other and leaving the state in "ruins."

In opposition, the government touted Governor Uba Sani's "inclusive, people-centered, and security-focused approach," which it credits for significant improvements in peace and development. It cited the elimination of notorious bandit kingpins and the relative calm in previously volatile areas like Birnin Gwari as evidence of this progress.

Beyond security, the statement listed governance achievements under Uba Sani, including integrating over 2.5 million unbanked citizens, upgrading healthcare facilities, improving education outcomes, and completing abandoned infrastructure projects, framing it as "governance with a conscience."

The government called on the people of Kaduna to see El-Rufai's "provocations for what they are: desperate acts by a failed leader trying to stay relevant by plunging the state into anarchy." It urged citizens to reject his message of hate and embrace the ongoing peace and unity.

The statement concluded with a firm reaffirmation of the government's commitment to the rule of law and a warning that security agencies are on alert. "The peace of Kaduna State is non-negotiable. Anyone who dares to threaten it... will be held accountable," it declared.

Kaduna ADC in Turmoil: Stakeholders Accuse El-Rufa’i of Attempting Party Hijack

By Lola Seriki -Idahosa, Kaduna

Tracereporters News --A coalition of concerned members and stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress(ADC) in Kaduna State has raised a major alarm, accusing former Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i and his allies of a plot to hijack and destabilize the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group, claiming to represent all 23 Local Government Areas, issued a stern warning during a press conference on Saturday, calling for immediate intervention from the party's national leadership.

The stakeholders directly accused Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i, alongside Ja'afaru Sani and Bashir Sa'idu, of engaging in divisive and authoritarian tactics that threaten the very survival of the ADC in the state. They declared that the individuals' actions, if not checked, would "sabotage the collective project of building a united ADC" capable of winning elections and bringing change to Kaduna.

The spokesperson Hon. Adamu Ahmed Dattijo on behalf of the concerned ADC members, coalition partners, and stakeholders from Kaduna State's 23 Local Government Areas, said A central point of contention is an alleged plan by El-Rufa’i’s group to organize an"official inauguration of the transition of the Coalition across political parties in Kaduna State." The concerned stakeholders declared this move "fraudulent, illegitimate, and dead on arrival," asserting that it is a calculated attempt to sideline the legitimate party executive and impose themselves as sole leaders of the coalition movement.

The group detailed their grievances, stating that instead of fostering collective leadership, El-Rufa’i runs a "one-man show." They accused him of refusing to recognize the duly elected Kaduna State ADC Executive Committee, making decisions without consultation, and holding meetings only with his personal loyalists, particularly described as "SDP remnants," while ignoring the authentic party leadership and grassroots structures.

They highlighted the damaging impact of these activities, noting that they have already "caused serious division in our ranks." The stakeholders warned that El-Rufa’i’s approach has polarized the party, alienated loyal members, and risks leading the ADC into the 2027 elections as a "divided and weakened party," resulting in a "total loss" of the goodwill and strength it currently enjoys.

The coalition however issued a direct plea to the National Leadership of the ADC to "intervene without delay." They demanded that the national body call El-Rufa’i and his associates to order, protect the party's unity in Kaduna, and affirm that all state activities must be channeled through the legitimate party structures, asserting that "no individual... is bigger than the party."

The stakeholders also called on their members and supporters across Kaduna State to"remain calm, vigilant, and committed" and to reject any "parallel structures or illegal gatherings." They urged them to stand firm with the authentic State Executive, reinforcing that the party belongs to its members and not to a select few individuals.

A direct message was issued to Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i,Ja'afaru Sani, and Bashir Sa'idu, demanding they "stop this reckless behavior immediately." They were called upon to respect the party’s structures, work with coalition stakeholders, and prioritize the interest of the party and Kaduna State above personal ambitions.

The group concluded by reiterating that their opposition was not to political ambition but to the hijacking of the party and the disregard for democratic principles. They ended with a final call for swift national action to prevent the situation from escalating further, emphasizing that unity and respect for party structures are paramount for victory in 2027.

PoliticsJohnny To INEC: Resist Pressure, uphold Ward Delineation In Warri by lolanews(op): 9:26am On Aug 11, 2025
Tracereporters News --A chieftain of All Progressives Congress APC in Delta State, High Chief Michael Johnny has advised Professor Mahmood Yakubu and Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to stand firmly on its report from the concluded fresh ward delineation in Warri Federal Constituency, Delta State.

Johnny, gave the advise on Sunday in Warri, while reacting to comments made by an Itsekiri chief, Ayiri Emami.

“ My attention has been drawn to a publication in Saturday Vanguard Newspaper, dated 9th August 2025, on page 5, titled “ Why we are against INEC’s Constituency delineation – Emami "

Johnny, Agadiwei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, warned that the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) cannot be intimidated or blackmailed into tampering with the delineation field work reports already concluded in Warri Federal Constituency.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Security Adviser NSA and the Inspector General of Police, will never interfere or compel the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) to compromise its integrity and reputation as the Electoral Umpire was determined to stand by its reports on the fresh Ward delineation as presented to the Ijaw, Urhobo and Itsekiri stakeholders”

“ I want to believe that my friend, Ayiri Emami did not acknowledge the existing laws and constitution when he said INEC should have gone back to the Supreme Court, to do what exactly?

“ Commendably, as a law-abiding agency, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, in full compliance to the Supreme Court judgement swung into action immediately. The practical field work carried out by INEC was purely on areas, communities and population. And the outcome confirmed that Ijaws were majority in Warri Federal Constituency. Even the Itsekiri cannot dispute this fact”

“Contrary to the false claim by Ayiri Emami that INEC conducted the fresh Ward delineation in Warri Federal Constituency on projected census, there is nothing like “ Projected Census” in the Electoral Act or National Population Commission NPC. The Ayiri Emami’s allegations against INEC over allocation of Wards, was not true and entirely misleading, as INEC has no power to allocate Wards, rather INEC worked with facts and the reality on ground”

He explained that the fresh Ward delineation is not in any way an existential challenge to our Itsekiri brothers and neighbours in Warri Federal Constituency as claimed or wrongly insinuated by Ayiri Emami.

“ It is important to state that the Itsekiri have no local government created for them alone. The Itsekiri shares Warri North Local Government with the Ijaws, the Itsekiri shares Warri South West with the Ijaws and likewise the Itsekiri shares Warri South with the Urhobo and Ijaw, which made up the Warri Federal Constituency. Therefore, in the Warri Federal Constituency, the House of Representatives and House of Assembly seats are not exclusively for only the Itsekiri as Ijaws and Urhobos were also entitled to the elective positions”

“ Maybe I should also educate or remind my friend, Ayiri Emami that Federal Constituencies or State Constituencies were not created for ethnicity. It It just happened that Burutu, Bomadi and Patani were distinct Ijaw Federal Constituencies and State Constituencies. The Warri Federal Constituency and State House of Assembly seats are for the Ijaws, Urhobos and Itsekiri people in the Warri Federal Constituency. We must embrace the fact and move forward”

“ I urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, NSA, IGP and the leadership of Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to ignore Ayiri Emami’s outburst and allegations against the commission and its officials who conducted the Delineation field work”

The ex-chairman of Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation insisted that the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC will not go back on the field work reports on fresh Ward Delineation; the exercise was thoroughly conducted.

“ Nobody should blackmail INEC, the electoral umpire had done the needful and corrected the political anomaly in Warri Federal Constituency. INEC had successfully implemented the Supreme Court judgement on fresh Ward delineation in Warri Federal Constituency”

“ As rightly mentioned by Ayiri Emami that there will be no fight over the fresh Ward Delineation, the Ijaws and I, Chief Michael Johnny do not want to fight as well. But I can say that Itsekiri and Ijaws of Gbaramatu in Warri South West have a common enemy which is “ UNDERDEVELOPMENT”. This is what we should focus on to address and lay a solid foundation for peace and development for the future generations”

He further noted, “ The Gbaramatu man is not responsible for the underdevelopment in Itsekiri land, and the Itsekiri man is not responsible for the underdevelopment in Gbaramatu land. We must have this in mind. In conclusion, I urge my friend and brother, Ayiri Emami to leave INEC alone and allow the Commission to do their constitutional work unhindered on the fresh Ward delineation in Warri Federal Constituency”

The Ijaw leader said the perceived intimidation and blackmailing of INEC must stop henceforth.

CPPCN Supports Merit-Based Appointment of Aliyu Tajudeen as Upper Nigeria Basin MD

The Council of Political Party Chairmen of Nigeria (CPPCN) has clarified its position on the appointment of Mr. Aliyu Tajudeen as Managing Director of the Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority, supporting his appointment after initial reservations.

In a press statement Signed by Engr. Idris Musa, the Spokesperson, CPPCN
2nd June, 2025. Said the council has undertaken further consultations, verified new facts, and reflected deeply on the sequence of events that has unfold.

According to the press statement, "Following our initial Press Conference on May 29th, 2025, regarding the appointment of *Mr. Aliyu Tajudeen as the Managing Director of the Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority,* the Council of Political Parties Chairmen of Nigeria (CPPCN) has undertaken further consultations, verified new facts, and reflected deeply on the sequence of events and the credibility of the individuals involved and it has become imperative to set the record straight and provide Nigerians with the truth they deserve.

RE-EVALUATING THE FACTS

Our initial briefing was, regrettably, influenced by misleading narratives and incomplete information deliberately fed to us by Hon. Shuibu Bawa Jaja, who presented himself as the rightful nominee and portrayed the entire process as a case of victimization. We have since uncovered that this narrative was built on distortions, half-truths, and a calculated attempt to manipulate our platform for personal gain.
Hon. Jaja approached members of our council, offering financial inducements and promises of future favors, all in a bid to galvanize public sentiment and falsely discredit a legitimate Federal Appointment. We regret that our platform was momentarily hijacked for what now appears to be a self-serving campaign of sabotage.

AFFIRMING THE INTEGRITY OF ALIYU TAJUDEEN

In contrast, Mr. Aliyu Tajudeen, the appointed Managing Director, is a man whose track record in public service, development administration, and organizational leadership is commendable. Contrary to prior mischaracterizations, his appointment followed internal due diligence, capacity assessment, and alignment with national development priorities.
It is misleading and unjust to condemn an appointment simply on the basis of familial ties, especially when competence and merit are not in question. We withdraw without reservation any insinuation that Mr. Aliyu Tajudeen's selection was purely nepotistic. The appointee has proven himself worthy of the responsibility placed upon him.

THE LEADERSHIP OF RT. HON. ABBAS TAJUDEEN

We also recognize and commend the exemplary leadership of *the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen,* who has shown remarkable restraint and nationalistic poise in the face of unwarranted attacks.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen has consistently stood as a defender of due process, transparency, and equity, both within the legislature and in public discourse. His unblemished record and commitment to democratic values speak louder than the allegations carelessly thrown at him. We now see clearly that the earlier attacks on his person were unfounded and orchestrated by those who failed to gain access through the front door and chose instead the route of manipulation.

A FAILED ATTEMPT TO SOW DIVISION

We are equally aware of the growing camaraderie and strong working relationship between His Excellency Governor Uba Sani and Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, a partnership that has, and will continue to, yield developmental gains for Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.
No amount of propaganda, internal sabotage, or underhand politicking can undermine the trust and unity that exists between these two national leaders. The attempt by Hon. Jaja to use our council to drive a wedge between them has failed, spectacularly and conclusively.

In view of these revelations and in pursuit of fairness and responsibility, we declare the following, "We fully recognize and support the appointment of Mr. Aliyu Tajudeen as Managing Director, Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority.

"We disassociate ourselves from the initial statement issued under our platform, as it was based on falsehoods and manipulation by external actors.

"We condemn the unethical actions of Hon. Shuibu Bawa Jaja, who attempted to compromise our integrity for political gain.

"We applaud Speaker Abbas Tajudeen for his dignified response and his continued service to the Nigerian people.

"We wish to reassure Nigerians that the CPPCN remains a dignified body committed to the values of equity, transparency, and national development.

"We take full responsibility for the earlier misjudgment and have taken steps internally to ensure such lapses do not occur again.

"Let it be on record that truth has prevailed, and no forces of division can prosper where unity, integrity, and merit are upheld.

Southern Kaduna Youths Sets Record Straight on FUASK, FMC Kafanchan

..Urge Senator Katung to Support Peace, Stability in Southern Kaduna

..Congratulates Tinubu, Sani Over Establishment of FUASK, FMC ..Pledge 1 Million Votes come 2027

..Praise Rep. Amos Gwamna Magaji's Efforts on FMC Kafanchan

By Lola Seriki -Idahosa, Kaduna
Tracereporters --The Southern Kaduna Youth Stakeholders Forum has sets record straight on issues surrounding the establishment of Federal University of Applied Sciences Kachia (FUASK) and the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Kafanchan.

The Director of Research and Documentation, Southern Kaduna Youth Stakeholders Forum, Engr. Seth Habila Bakut stated this in a press conference held at Seth’s Place on Monday, 26th May 2025, said that the two institutions were initiated through the benevolence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the benefit of the region, adding that any effort by an individual to claim unilateral credit for these institutions is an attempt to undermine the presidency and deny our region further opportunities for advancement.

He urged Senator Sunday Marshall Katung to refrain from any actions that could undermine the peace and stability currently experienced in the region due to his personal aspirations for re-election.

He however expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani for establishing the Federal University of Applied Sciences Kachia and the Federal Medical Centre Kafanchan.

Engr. Seth Habila Bakut also commended Rep. Amos Gwamna Magaji for his role in facilitating the establishment of the medical center and attracting over N1.7 billion in budgetary appropriation. The group also pledged to support President Tinubu and Governor Sani's re-election campaigns with at least one million votes.

According to Engr. Seth Habila Bakut, "This press conference is convened in response to the widespread misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda disseminated by certain unproductive, insensitive, and irresponsible members of our upper chamber regarding the establishment and legislative efforts related to the Federal University of Applied Sciences Kachia (FUASK) and the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan (FMC). The primary objective of this statement is to counter the intentional inaccuracies surrounding FUASK and FMC Kafanchan and to purify the political discourse of its detrimental influences.

"Before addressing the core issues, the propagandists associated with Senator Sunday Marshall Katung must recognize that no amount of narrative manipulation will diminish the significant contributions of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and His Excellency Governor Uba Sani in the establishment of FUASK and FMC Kafanchan. These institutions were initiated through the benevolence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the benefit of our region. Any effort by an individual to claim unilateral credit for these institutions is an attempt to undermine the presidency and deny our region further opportunities for advancement.

"It is critical to understand that there are existing legislations which permit the Federal Government, State Government, and private entities to establish universities without necessarily undergoing legislative processes at the National Assembly (NASS) or state assemblies. This process is illustrated by the actions of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who successfully established six regional universities without any sponsored legislation, relying solely on the Nigerian University Commission to facilitate the process.

"Having clarified this context, it is essential to rectify the record concerning the legislative and executive procedures that led to the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan. Following the presentation of the Bill for the establishment of FMC before the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly at the commencement of the current Assembly, the Bill underwent a Public Hearing on 27th and 28th March 2024, which occurred over a year ago. This event was graced by respected leaders from the Zone, including Elder Ishaya Dare Akau, Engr. Andrew Yakubu, Traditional Rulers, and representatives of Community Development Associations.

"After the successful public hearing, the Bill was referred to the House Committee on Healthcare Institutions, adeptly chaired by Representative Amos Gwamna Magaji. He promptly finalized his report and presented it to the House on 10th October 2024, at which point it was approved. Without a corresponding bill in the Senate, the upper chamber promptly concurred with the Bill.

"Following this achievement, Representative Amos Gwamna facilitated budgetary appropriation exceeding 1.7 billion Naira for the take-off of the facility. However, when he publicly shared this accomplishment with Southern Kaduna journalists, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung exhibited jealousy by convening a media parley, not to present his own stewardship report but to discredit the efforts of Amos Gwamna, perceiving him as a rival despite their differing political affiliations.

"In support of my argument, I present an excerpt from the media parley conducted by Senator Katung with Southern Kaduna journalists at Gwaben, where the Senator made it look as if it is impossible to actualise that tall dream hear him:

"Furthermore, we recently passed the budget two or three days ago to the Senate. No one has had the opportunity to review the details of the budget. It is only when the bill receives assent that we can determine what is included or omitted therein. However, as far as I am aware, I have yet to see any budget line item pertaining to that."

"He further stated, "I do not know if a budget provision can be made for a bill prior to its assent, as that would be illegal according to my understanding as a legislator. Until assent is granted, if the President discovers that a budget provision for a bill has been made prior to the assent, he may choose not to grant assent to the bill. Therefore, I believe it is not something we should discuss openly. Rather, we should communicate privately to avoid jeopardizing our desires for our region. The bill is commendable if it receives assent, and we hope it will be assented to, as we require a Federal Medical Centre."

"Inadvertently, the Senator revealed a crucial truth: he is not familiar with the essential legislative procedure of the Appropriation Act. Otherwise, he would have been aware that budgetary provisions for the hospital were indeed included in the FMC bill before the NASS, which was submitted to the President for assent. Unless he implies that, after legislative procedures, the executive possesses the authority to modify bills, his statements lack insight. Justice prevails for those who are correct.

"Having failed to undermine the commendable representation provided by Amos Gwamna, Senator Katung has resorted to initiating a new bill for the establishment of another Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan. The recent legislative bill was passed as one of many bills consolidated by the Senate only last week. This coincides with the Kaduna State Government's handover of the Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital in Kafanchan to the Federal Government for its establishment. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu further appointed Dr. Haruna Abubakar Shehu as the Chief Medical Director of the hospital on March 7, 2025.

"We question the intentions of Senator Sunday Marshall Katung concerning the well-established Federal Medical Centre. Is the Senator attempting to instigate political discord within the region? Is he dissatisfied with the relative peace that currently prevails? What advantages does he anticipate by diverting attention from pressing challenges and revisiting already resolved matters?

He however on behalf of the good People of Southern Kaduna express their gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his benevolence toward their region by approving the establishment of two significant federal institutions.

He said, "Our appreciation to Governor Uba Sani for his generous contributions to the Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital in Kafanchan, facilitating the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, and for designating over 170 hectares of land for the permanent site of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia. This act of generosity will be long remembered.

"Our commendation to Rep. Dr Amos Gwamna Magaji for his unwavering focus despite numerous challenges presented by individuals who should be his allies but have instead acted as impediments in the process of establishing the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan.

"Our recognition of Rep. Amos Gwamna Magaji for attracting multi-billion naira capital projects to the region, which are instrumental in addressing the existing infrastructure deficits.

"Our assurance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, and all leaders of the All Progressives Congress of our commitment to support their re-election campaigns and reward them with at least One Million Votes.

"Our admonition to Senator Sunday Marshall Katung to refrain from any actions that could undermine the peace and stability currently experienced in the region due to his personal aspirations for re-election.

"Our sincere appreciation to the people of Southern Kaduna for their substantial support of the leaders of the All Progressives Congress.

Group Wants Anti-graft Agencies To Probe Zamfara Govt Officials Over Alleged Misappropriation
By Lola Seriki -Idahosa, Kaduna
A group known as North West Good Governance Forum has accused Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal in cahoot with state officials of alleged financial recklessness, misappropriation and diversion of local governments allocations into personal advantages.

The group in a press conference in Kaduna fingered key officials of the Governor as the conduit pipe through which the state funds were diverted and used to pursue political vendetta of perceived opponent.

President of the group Lawal Abdulkadir lamented lack of basic infrastructure in all 14 Local Governments of the state, despite consistent flow of allocations from the coffers of federal government, which he alleged had disappeared into private pickets of government appointees.

Abdulkadir mentioned Commissioner for Finance and his counterparts in Ministry For Local Governments Affairs and its permanent Secretary; State Accountant-General and Secretary to the State Government as officials used by Governor Lawal to drain the state of its resources which he said should have been used to fight insecurity, poverty and other deficits of governance that would make life better for the people of the State.

He decried what he described as deceptive media propaganda deployed by the Governor, using the state's resources to mount sustained campaign of calumny against perceived opponents such as the immediate past Governor of the state and the present Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle.

Abdulkadir however, added a caveat that he was not holding brief for Matawalle as the group, according to him was out to ensure good governance anchored on truth, accountability, transparency, and above all regard and respect for rule and regulations guiding public finance and expenditures.

He disclosed that the state had gotten the sum of 290 billion Naira from January 2025 to date as allocations for the 14 Local Governments of the state with virtually nothing to show for it, other than abject poverty in rural areas because farmers could not access their farmland due to banditry.

He called on President Bola Tinubu to grow interest in the affairs of the Government in Zamfara State with the aim of ensuring prudent management of allocated resources, particularly those accrued to local governments solely for growth and development of the people so they too would have a sense of belonging in the democratic project.

While lamenting the provision of immunity clause enjoyed by the executive arm, including the governors which shields them from prosecution while in office, he expressed delight in the fact that political appointees such as commissioners court be tried for corrupt practices while still in office.

"We are calling on Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and other concerned agencies to investigate the above mentioned commissioners and appointed officials of Zamfara State under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal to save the state from going bankrupt due to the fleecing acts of few individuals backed by the chief executive officer of the state.

"A thorough forensic audit should be carried out on joint allocation accounts of local and state governments and the expenditures of all 14 local governments from January 2025 to determine if indeed due process were followed in spending the resources of the people at the grassroots.

"Full scale investigation of the concerned officials to determine the extent of damage done the LG accounts of all 14 local governments.

"Suspension of the affected office holders to prevent unsure interference and protect sanctity of probe into their actions.

"The Governor should be made to publish LG allocations and their expenditures for transparency and accountability," the group demanded.

NNPCL killing Nigeria Economy, must start PH, Warri Refineries now -Group

A group known as Stand-Up South South Security Group SSSSG, has accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited NNPCL and oil cabals of killing the country’s economy with the importation of refined products.

The group lamented that between 2007 and now the NNPCL had wasted $20 billion on repairing the Refineries , with several promises of starting dates yet no refinery is working .

In a statement on Monday in Abuja, signed by Comrade Dickson A. Onisiru, Coordinator, the group accused NNPCL of spending the people’s money on fixing refineries and nothing has come out of it.

The group urges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately direct NNPCL to give account for these billions of dollars wasted on rehabilitation of moribund Refineries.

It also called on Nigerians who are already subjected to hunger and poverty due to high cost of fuel importation to asks NNPCL when the 3 Refineries will start work.

“ The NNPCL should start the Refineries now or let Mele Kyari leave or be removed from that office for his failure and inability to get the Refineries working”

The group also warned that the importation of fuel was deliberate plan targeted at frustrating all domestic and local Refineries including the Dangote Refinery.

It called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to think deep and not to allow NNPCL and oil cabals to destroy his government, and making life difficult for Nigerians.

The group alleged that NNPCL has become a tool in the hands of opposition to undermine the administration of President Tinubu.

“ We are beginning to suspect that the NNPCL, oil cabals and fuel importers have a simple agenda to frustrate Tinubu’s govt and Tinubu’s efforts to end Importation of fuel. This is why the NNPCL has deliberately made sure that PH and Warri Refineries are not working, just to sustain their importation of fuel”

“ More so, why are they making unnecessary noise about monopoly, but NNPC had the monopoly for decades. The NNPCL should start refineries now and there will be no more monopoly . So , why are they not starting the refineries ? This is why President Tinubu must compel the NNPCL to start the Refineries immediately”

“ They are plotting and conspiring to kill local Refineries and Dangote Refinery., just as NNPCL had killed PH, Warri and Kafuna Refineries because of their fuel importation business. The Federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must do everything possible to support other local Refineries and the Dangote Refinery domesticated in Nigeria”

“ If President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wants Nigerians to take him serious, he must stop all fuel importation now. President Tinubu must ensure that fuel Importation ends in this 2024. The President should collaborate with owners of local refineries as well as Dangote Refinery to achieve end to importation of refined products”

The group concluded that local refines and Dangote Refinery provides lot of economic benefits to the country and Nigerians.

PoliticsNew Livestock Ministry Can Maximally Exploit Napri’s Expertise For Take-off by lolanews(op): 1:29pm On Sep 27, 2024
New livestock ministry can maximally exploit NAPRI’s expertise for take-off

By Auwalu Umar

Only last week, precisely Thursday, 19th September, 2024, the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee submitted its inception report to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, giving a detailed guidance on the operations of the newly created Federal Ministry of Livestock Development. Significantly, the Committee recognised and recommended that the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) and the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), the only two existing animal-based research institutes in Nigeria, should be strengthened in addition to the desirability for the establishment of eight new livestock research institutes to anchor teaching and cutting edge research and innovation in the livestock subsector.
As the committee is now set to engage and map all the relevant stakeholders in the country’s livestock sector, one may submit that the Committee should take advantage of the enormous resources of the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI), a component of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. The institute, which will be 100 years old by 2028, is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
Ideally, the Committee should take a tour of the institute to study its vision, mission, values, mandate, activities, and organisational structures that complement the efforts of government at improving livestock farming and production in Nigeria.
The visit will afford them the opportunity to study the institute’s 10 strong research programmes, strengths, and opportunities. NAPRI has 10 research programmes on animal products, beef, biotechnology, dairy, equine and camel, feeds and nutrition, livestock systems, poultry, small ruminant, as well as rabbit and swine. It also has five outstations spread across the diverse ecological zones of the country in line with the national objectives of not only making research results applicable to local conditions but also evaluating livestock where they are naturally adapted.
As the only research institute mandated to conduct research into animal production and pasture development, the institute has acquired capacity through highly qualified dedicated staff and infrastructure. It offers specialised trainings for farmers, women and youths from different states on skills acquisition in various production techniques of different species of animals. Equally, most of the animal science and veterinary undergraduate and postgraduate research projects in Ahmadu Bello University are conducted and supervised in NAPRI.
Remarkably, NAPRI has made notable achievements in animal breeding improvement and development as in ShikaBrown egg laying chicken, dairy and beef cattle, sheep and goats. The ShikaBrown has been reputed nationwide to have survived the outbreaks of Avian Influenza (Bird Flu). To feed the various classes of livestock, it has improved and developed various native and introduced species of pastures, and feeding packages; and the outcomes of its activities are out-scaled to the local producers and processors on the field.
The hub for improved agricultural productivity in general and livestock in particular is through research. Significantly, NAPRI has a crop of well trained, competent and committed staff to move the frontiers of agricultural innovations for higher productivity in the livestock subsector. The institute, for instance, collaborates with relevant research bodies at national and international levels that include, among many others, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna; International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada; International Foundation of Sciences (IFS), Sweden; and International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Kenya and Ethiopia.
The institute has succeeded in upgrading of indigenous cattle through crossbreeding with exotic animals which have produced crossbred animals with a genetic potential of about 70 percent higher milk yield than indigenous breeds. It also developed the technology for breeding such animals without the need to import exotic breeds.
Animal scientists at the institute have evaluated the productivity of indigenous cattle, sheep, and goat breeds. Breeds and management procedures suitable for extensive and intensive production systems in different ecological zones have been identified and practical guidelines for farmers have been formulated all at the institute.
Other research results achieved at the institute include identification of pasture species suitable for the different ecological zones in Nigeria. Seeds for these species are being produced at NAPRI for use by livestock farmers, just as a package for establishing and managing these pastures has also been developed for farmers use.
The institute introduced dual purpose legumes (lablab, cowpea and groundnut) into the livestock farming system and development of preservation techniques for their utilization during the dry season. It also developed management strategies to increase conception rates of cattle and sheep in addition to establishment and utilisation of fodder banks.
For many years, NAPRI has been in the forefront in complementing efforts of the Nigerian government in mitigating the decades-long conflicts between farmers and herders over access to land, pasture, and water, as the institute has always been an advocate for the settlement, relocation and integration of pastoralists into the society for the enhancement of livestock products. The institute has come to appreciate the immense contributions of the pastoral and agro-pastoral Fulani in the sphere of urban beef supplies, rural diary supplies and distribution. As part of its community service, NAPRI recently revived the grazing reserves in neighbouring communities with provision of school, houses, market, and other facilities.
It is expected after the tour of the institute that the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee will be better informed of NAPRI’s enormous resources that can be of tremendous assistance in the take-off of the new Ministry. The tour will also offer them an opportunity to understand that the functions already proposed in the Committee’s inception report for NAPRI are exactly what the institute has been performing since its establishment despite the abysmal neglect of the livestock subsector.

PoliticsWORLD MARITIME DAY 2022: Navigating The Future – Safety First by lolanews(op): 9:04pm On Sep 26, 2024
WORLD MARITIME DAY 2022: Navigating the Future – Safety First
Capt. Caleb Danladi Bako
Master Mariner, Offshore and Maritime Expert/Researcher
World Maritime day is celebrated annually on the last Thursday of every September. The purpose of the day is to provide an opportunity to focus attention on the importance of the Maritime Industry and to underline the importance of Maritime Security, Maritime environment, safety, and shipping. The day also provides an opportunity to emphasize a particular aspect of the work of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). It was first observed in 1978 to mark the day of adoption of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) convention in 1958.
Sea transportation is essential to the global economy as more than 90% of global trade is carried by maritime transportation. Shipping is essential to international trade because it is a cost-effective means of transporting vast quantities of merchandise throughout the globe. International shipping enables nations to gain access to essential raw materials for the development of their economy. Makes possible the production and distribution of reasonably priced items and products. Other essential supplies, such as chemicals, refined fuels, and manufactured goods, are also transported in significant quantities via marine transport.
This year’s theme, "Navigating the Future: Safety First," places a spotlight on the intersection of safety, sustainability, and technological advancements in the maritime world. As the shipping industry continues to evolve, addressing the challenges posed by autonomous ships, decarbonization, and digital innovation becomes increasingly important. The future of shipping holds immense promise, but it also demands a sharp focus on safety to ensure a seamless transition into this new era.
Safety has always been a cornerstone of maritime operations, and as the industry shifts towards a more technology-driven future, it remains a critical concern. The IMO has long prioritized the safety of life at sea, ensuring that ships, cargo, and crew are protected against potential hazards. With the introduction of new technologies like autonomous ships, the decarbonization agenda, and the digitization of shipping processes, the industry must continue to uphold these safety standards while adapting to a changing landscape.
In the face of rapid innovation, maintaining a safety-first approach will be key to ensuring that these advancements benefit the maritime industry without compromising the well-being of those who work within it.
One of the most exciting developments in the maritime sector is the rise of autonomous ships. These vessels, capable of operating without human intervention, represent a significant leap forward in terms of efficiency and technological sophistication. Autonomous ships are expected to reduce human error, improve fuel efficiency, and potentially lower operating costs. Several trials of autonomous vessels are already underway, with companies like Rolls-Royce and Kongsberg leading the way in developing fully autonomous cargo ships.
However, the adoption of autonomous ships raises important safety concerns. One of the key challenges is ensuring the reliability of the technology used to navigate these vessels. Autonomous systems rely heavily on artificial intelligence (AI), sensors, and data networks to make real-time decisions. Any malfunction in these systems could lead to accidents, posing significant risks to maritime safety. Additionally, there are concerns about cybersecurity, as autonomous vessels are vulnerable to hacking and other cyber threats. This means that rigorous safety protocols and international regulations must be developed to ensure that autonomous ships operate safely in global waters.
The IMO has already started working on a regulatory framework for autonomous ships, focusing on areas such as collision avoidance, remote control systems, and the integration of these vessels into existing shipping lanes. As we move towards a future where autonomous ships become more commonplace, the industry's commitment to safety will be critical in preventing accidents and ensuring smooth operations.
The shipping industry is responsible for approximately 2-3% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, making decarbonization one of the most pressing challenges facing the sector. With the IMO's ambitious target of reducing GHG emissions by at least 50% by 2050 compared to 2008 levels, the industry is under pressure to adopt cleaner technologies and transition to more sustainable practices.
Decarbonization efforts are focusing on the development of alternative fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia, and biofuels, as well as the use of energy-efficient technologies like wind-assisted propulsion and air lubrication systems. These innovations are crucial for reducing the carbon footprint of shipping, but they also bring new safety considerations to the forefront.
For example, the use of alternative fuels like ammonia and hydrogen poses unique safety challenges. Both substances are highly flammable and toxic, requiring special handling and storage measures to prevent accidents. The maritime industry must develop comprehensive safety standards and best practices to mitigate the risks associated with these new fuels. Additionally, the adoption of energy-efficient technologies requires thorough testing to ensure that they do not compromise the structural integrity or performance of vessels.
The shift towards decarbonization also includes the electrification of port operations and the implementation of shore-side power, which allows ships to plug into the electrical grid while docked, reducing emissions from idling ships. However, the infrastructure required for these initiatives is still in its early stages, and ensuring the safe integration of these systems into existing port operations will be a key challenge moving forward.
While the path to decarbonization is essential for the future of shipping, it is also fraught with challenges. The IMO’s regulations and the industry's collective efforts towards greener operations must continue to prioritize safety, ensuring that the transition to low-carbon shipping is both effective and secure.
Digital innovation is transforming the maritime industry in unprecedented ways. The rise of smart shipping, big data analytics, and blockchain technology is revolutionizing everything from cargo tracking to port operations. These digital tools enhance the efficiency, transparency, and safety of maritime operations, enabling ships to optimize routes, reduce fuel consumption, and improve communication with port authorities.
One of the most significant impacts of digital innovation is the potential for real-time monitoring of ship performance and environmental conditions. Sensors and IoT (Internet of Things) devices can collect data on various parameters, such as engine performance, fuel consumption, and weather conditions, allowing ship operators to make informed decisions to enhance efficiency and safety. For example, predictive maintenance systems can detect equipment failures before they occur, preventing costly breakdowns and ensuring that ships operate safely at all times.
Blockchain technology is another game-changer for the maritime industry. It offers a secure and transparent way to track cargo, reducing the risk of fraud, human error, and disputes over documentation. By creating an immutable ledger of transactions, blockchain can streamline the entire shipping process, from the point of origin to the final destination. However, as with any digital technology, cybersecurity is a major concern. The maritime industry must invest in robust cyber defenses to protect against potential threats and ensure the safety and integrity of digital systems.
The rise of digital innovation also brings new opportunities for remote operations and automation. With the development of remote-controlled ships and the use of drones for cargo delivery and inspection, the shipping industry is moving towards a more automated future. While these technologies offer significant advantages in terms of efficiency and cost savings, they also require rigorous safety standards to ensure that they can be operated without risk to human life or the environment.
The future of shipping is full of promise, with technological advancements such as autonomous ships, decarbonization, and digital innovation driving the industry towards greater efficiency and sustainability. However, with these advancements come new challenges, particularly in the realm of safety. Coalition Reaffirms Support for Tejuosho's Ministerial Appointment

The Coalition of Professional People Living with Disability (CPPLWDs) has revealed that appointing Halimat Tejuosho as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation will guarantee a whopping 37 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

In a press statement issued on behalf of the group by Barrister Ismaila Sani Dabai and made available to newsmen in Kaduna, the disability group expressed deep disappointment and frustration that their plea for Tejuosho's appointment continues to be disregarded, while those of other groups are being granted.

Notwithstanding this, the group reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Tinubu-led administration, citing his Renewed Hope Agenda. They emphasized that they do not regard the appointment as an entitlement, but rather as a necessary acknowledgement of Tejuosho's remarkable contributions to humanity, particularly during the tumultuous #EndBadGovernance protests.

The CPPLWDs highlighted Tejuosho's exceptional selflessness and leadership, noting that she utilized her personal resources to embark on a nationwide tour, traversing Jos, Abuja, and other states, engaging Nigerian youths and passionately appealing to them to give the government more time.

By granting their request, Ismaila added that the President would be sending a powerful message about his commitment to inclusivity, equality, and diversity, thereby promoting a more representative and inclusive leadership.

“The Coalition of Professional CPPLWDs in Nigeria, representing over 37 million people, has expressed deep worries and concerns following the delayed appointment of Halimat Tejuosho as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

“Despite our unwavering support for this administration, we cannot help but feel marginalized and overlooked as our request continues to be ignored, while those of other groups are being granted.

“We are left to wonder if our disability status is the reason for the President's continued overlook of our requests. It is disheartening to note that despite our contributions to the country, our requests are constantly delayed or ignored, while those of non-disabled individuals are prioritized.

“Remarkably, Tejuosho's appointment would be a well-deserved recognition of her tireless efforts in serving our community, providing humanitarian aid, and stabilizing the government during times of crisis. Her selflessness and leadership have earned her the respect and admiration of our coalition and the wider PLWD community.

“Notably, Halimat Tejuosho risked her life traveling to Jos, Abuja, and other parts of the country, meeting with Civil Societies to shield their sword before and during the #EndBadGovernance protests that would have crippled this government. She used her personal resources to achieve this, while those in government were shying away from their responsibilities. This act of bravery and dedication demonstrates her commitment to the well-being of our nation.

“We urge the President to consider the significance of this appointment, not only for our community but also for the country at large. By granting our request, the President would be sending a powerful message about his commitment to inclusivity and equality, promoting a more representative and diverse leadership.

“The appointment of Halimat Tejuosho would also serve as a formal recognition of the valuable contributions PLWDs have made to Nigerian society, despite facing systemic marginalization and exclusion. This recognition would promote a more inclusive and equitable society, where PLWDs are valued and respected.

“Furthermore, this appointment would address the systemic marginalization faced by PLWDs, promoting equal access to opportunities and resources. It would also ensure that our community is represented and included in the decision-making process, paving the way for a more inclusive political landscape.

“We remain hopeful that the President will consider our request and take the necessary steps to ensure that our community is represented and included in the decision-making process.” Ismaila, said.
