Channels TV: Binani is the Stealer of Adamawa Electoral Mandate -Gov Fintiri

Tracereporters.com --The incumbent Governor of Adamawa state, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has accused the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani the stealer of the state electoral mandate.

Ahmadu was on Channel TV Yesterday during a Political program (Politics Today) anchored by Seun Akinbaloye and talked about the outcome of the Governorship Election he described it as the most credible since the history of Adamawa creation.

Ahmadu accused Binani of being desperate to become the Governor by all means and spread lies to have won the election while res s of the three Local Governments of Fofure, Song, and Michika are yet to be collated.

"Binani Sunday Morning on her Twitter handle she declared herself the winner of the election. She is not an empire of this election, she doesn't have the authority to declare herself the winner, she misled the world because she is desperate to become the Governor. The truth has come out, she is far behind with over thirty-one thousand votes" Fintiri said

Ahmadu while responding to questions about the election's credibility, maintained that despite over voting because of voters' level of literacy and the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to have canceled the Polling Units (PU) with over-voting records that made the election more credible.

According to him, the election was not characterized by violence as there was a report of that by INEC but Binani was the cause of the violence that engulfed Fofure Local Governor.

Ahmadu said the APC governorship Candidate sent her political errand boys to snatch (Steal) the summary of the election result in the afternoon of Sunday after elections at the PUs were conducted successfully.

He said Binani despite winning the election of Fofure Local Government but discovering she had lost in 20 Local Government went ahead by trying to change the result.

Ahmadu commended INEC for having invested so much in technology, resources, and capacity building was one of the reasons that made Binani was not able to manipulate the Local Government results, thinking that is a normal business of election rigging.

He distanced himself from rigging the election and denied all allegations he was in Fofure, the venue of the election saga. Because he was leading with a good margin he wouldn't waste his time rigging the election.

"Because I was already leading, Fofure was the only Local Government left for them to perfect their rigging plans, she sent one of her Boy to steal the summary sheet of the result when they are tabulating it." He said

Ahmadu during the one-on-one Television live program with Seun stressed that he was never in Fofure but the people of Fofure were there to save and guide the entire exercise.

Ahmadu also denied holding anyone hostage, he revealed that the same returning officer that conducted the election exercise in Fofure was the same officer that declare the result at the INEC state collation center in Yola.

"As I told you these are people who are pathological liars, they have lost the election because of desperation they don't want to accept the reality on the ground. They are still thinking that we are still in the stoned age.

"The Resident Election Officer (REC) after he realized there was ballot stuffing called the returning officer and told him I'm sending a new result sheet to you and make sure you help that woman because I'm under duress from above." He started

He accused Adamawa REC, Barr Yunusa Hudu of being a prime suspect and crux of the entire hullabaloo of the present situation of an inconclusive election in the state.

"He thought they can use the new summary result sheets to change the results figure in favor of Binani when he discovered they can not temper with the result he delayed declaring the result until Monday at 2 pm. By this time his calculation was to temper with the INEC RVAs portal to give the woman the margin votes of winning election all to no avail because INEC has perfected the technology of rigging election." Fintiri accused the REC

He continued to say that Binani has been the one perpetrating fraud in collating the results whereas she kept sending her men and boys to keep snatching results sheets at the point of collation.

Kashim Meets Haruna,Ngilari Girei, Balla others as North east leaders of thought

....says Nigerians expecting more from their govt

Tracereporters.com --The incoming administration of President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice, Senator Kashim Shettima, will leave no stone unturned in meeting the aspiration of Nigerians given the explanations of majority of Nigerians.

Vice President- elect, Senator Kashim Shettima stated this on Wednesday at a meeting with the North East Leaders of Thought, NELT, when the group paid him a congratulatory visit at his Asokoro office.

Led by Maj. Gen. I.B.M. Haruna (rtd) OFR, Walin Garkida, the Group’s visit was basically a congratulatory visit to the VP- Elect over recent victories in the Presidential, National Assembly, Gubernatorial, and State House of Assembly elections.

Senator Kashim Shettima while thanking the delegation for the visit, expressed how success is a humbling experience, adding that to him, power remained an ephemeral gift to humanity.

He stated that the NELT remains a platform for value addition, especially as the North East as a whole is poorer than Niger Republic, Chad, or even Afghanistan based on indices.

"By 2050, Nigeria would be the third most populous country on earth, with
numerous challenges. The most frightening aspect of the statistics is that by 2050, 70% of Nigerians will live in the North, with desertification, deforestation, endemic poverty, and pervasive illiteracy

"It is a recipe for disaster unless we wear our thinking caps as leaders, unless we coalesce as a single force and come out with robust platforms to transform the anticipated demographic dividends, it will be demographic disaster that will consume all of us.

"This is why I want to appeal to you, let us work as a team, let us work as a family, I want to even get the similar North West groups to form a think tank sort of for the betterment of the region as I and my boss are commited to meeting the expectations of Nigerians," Shettima assured.

In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Gen. Ibrahim Bala Malgwi Haruna (rtd), OFR, congratulated Sen. Shettima, and thanked him for agreeing to meet with them despite his tight schedules.

He said: “We wish to appreciate His Excellency for creating time and for giving us audience for this congratulatory visit. We wish to also congratulate you and the President - Elect for winning an election that is termed the most complex and difficult since Nigeria’s journey to democracy”.

He also expressed hope on the success of the Tinubu/Shetima administration while presenting some of the Group’s identified challenges of the zone;

“We have high hopes that your administration will despense Justice, Fairness, and provide good governance. We the people of the North East expect that your administration will address the challenges of the zone which you are fully aware of. However it is pertinent to mention a few which include the Mambilla Dam Project and other dams in the zone, the Chad Basin Restoration, in all its ramification, intensification of the exploration and development of oil and gas within the North East zone, and the restoration and reactivation of the tourism activities and potentials of the North East, to mention a few, General IBM stated.

The delegation which cut across the Northeast included HE James Bala Ngilari, Senator Abubakar Girei, Alhaji (Dr.) Bawa Garba, Amb. Fatima Ballah, Alhaji Muazu Hassan Raji, Chief David Garnvwa, and Alhaji Ahmed Iya. Others were Alhaji Aliko Mohammed (Dan Iyan Misau), Hon. Adamu Gamawa, Prof. Andrew Haruna (Shettima Ilmuye of Borno), Hajiya Kuburat Umar, Alh. Yayale Ahmed CFR (Ajiyan Kataugum), Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, HE M.A. Abubakar SAN, Amb. Baba Ahmed Jidda OFR, Arc. Hon. Ibrahim Bunu, Dr. Shettima Aji Ali (Secretary of the Delegation), Prof. Dilly Dogo, Hajiya Ammuna Lawan, Alh. Bala Mandara, Alh. Ahmed Kuru and Barr. Bashir Maidugu.

Also were Sen. Umar U. Dukku, Hon. Aishatu Dukku, Murtala Aliyu, Dr. Modibbo Aliyu, Chief David Kente, Prof. Ummu Ahmed Jalingo, Senator Bala Adamu, Prof. Yoroms Joses, Engr. Abubukar Gambo Umar, and Amb. Goni Modu Bura, Hon. Dr. Almajiri Gaidam, Dr. Garba Abari and Prof. Maimuna Waziri.

BINANI: How The Desire And Power Of A Woman Beckons Bloodbath In Adamawa

By: Mu'azu Aliyu Isa

The 2023 Governorship election of Adamawa state has become a world centre of attraction. It is now a debacle of power tussle between the incumbent Governor, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and Senator Aishatu Ahmed Dahiru (Binani), Senator Representing Adamawa Central whose gross desire is to become the next Governor of the state.

Ahmadu is facing the blue ruin battle with a fierce desperation of Binani who seems to be powerful influencing the conduct and the process of the governorship election. The 18th March Governorship polls during Local Government results collation was the beginning of brewed political uproar when opponents discovered chances of winning or losing out of the contest.

Binani began to fly a kite by concocting believe to be a ballots boxes stuffing using unsubmitted Fofure Local Government results where over thirty one thousands votes was recorded in her favor. The imaginary votes threw confusion in the election process as people from all works of life began to congratulate Binani as the first female Governor in the history of Nigeria, including the international community.

How can Binani being a contestant be given the contract to print INEC sensitive papers in the same Adamawa State by so doing Binani has clearly indicated that she has no moral standing to lead the State.

On declaring an inconclusive election announcing the results from the twenty one local government by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, professor Mohammed Mele who said that the winner could not emerge because the number of collected Permanent Voter Cards PVC in 69 polling units elections were not hold and the canceled figures are higher than the winning margin of 31,250 polled by Fintiri.

INEC released official documents on the affected 69 polling units which is a total of 41,796 registered voters, but that only 37,016 collected their PVCs which is more than the margin between Fintiri and Binnani. The result properly indicated that Governor Fintiri scored 421,524 votes, senator Binnani got 390,274 votes in the 21 local governments of Adamawa state. It shows Fintiri is leading with over 31,250.

The question is that why Binani's penchant desperation to be the next Governor of Adamawa State? Why changing the facts and figures? Why the noise and the feminine support by women outside Adamawa state? What is the interest of women like Paulen Tallen? Are tenets of democracy no longer sacrosanct of the winner through the popular majority or minority gets it all?

We speaking as concerned Nigerians who are indigenes of Adamawa State and followed the political trend of event. My eagle and sparrows eyes on the two leading contestants (Fintiri and Binani) one can easily understand that Binani's disposition and penchant desire to be the next Governor of Adamawa has placed the state to sit on a time bomb. She is wielding out power, influence and affluence by making it to look as if she must be the Governor of Adamawa state at all cost.

Adamawa is sitting on a gun powder because the Binani ungodly desire is infuriating the common Man whose votes have already counted for a winner to emerge. The state is known to be a peaceful and labeled as the Land of Beauty. If care is not taken and urgent attention is not given to peace. It is going to be first in history that most likely a massive destruction of lives and properties will befall the people of Adamawa state because of the desire and power of a Woman.

One of the annoying part of her game is the fact that Pauline Kedem Tallen the supposed Minister of Women affairs and social development ought to be neutral and play the role of a Mother to everyone, but has failed woefully.

We in Adamawa cannot allowed someone from Plateau State to come and ruin our beautiful state. This same Woman that her own state of origin, Plateau was a Female Deputy Governor in 2007 who was removed from office. If was that good, she couldn’t have been removed as the female deputy Governor of her state and when she contested as the governor of Plateau State, she failed in totality.

Probably Mrs Tallen attention should be drawn on few issues that her desires for Binani to be Governor by crook way it is the cancer cropping her morality. Is she aware that Binani never won the election? Why is she shouting victory and congratulating her? Why is Tallen, been a former deputy Governor and present Minister of Women Affairs of the Federal Republic be preaching what is capable of shedding blood in Adamawa State? We advise Tallen to go back to the drawing board and allow morality to be her guide.

Tallen wishful thoughts for Binani by giving her graveyard courage is now boiling our dear state. Adamawa is sitting on time bomb and on gun powder which will explore in a sooner moment if stakeholders on political peace and violence have turn to be onlookers without meddling into the current situation of Adamawa politics.

Their firmed decision to push Binani by all means is geared toward carnage of destruction. Is it bloodbath that Binani and Tallen desire for the people of Adamawa State? Why can't she strength the capacity of women to win elective positions in Nigeria. May we draw the attention of our honourable minister that under her watch the position of the women in National Assembly dropped drastically.

What we are saying here today is that only Fairness and justice are what will save Adamawa state from the claws of crisis. Because of the simple fact that Binani didn't win the election, Tallen is using the APC might of leadership to impose her own people. INEC through the Binani's influence want to compromise and perfect rigging plans for Binani by changing the canceled units to favor her.

The desperation signs displayed by Binani is to the hearing and seeing of all. In her Fulfulde native language, she reiterated the word "Wujja Wujja". Meaning she will battle the seat of power even if it means her to steal. This portends grave danger especially to democracy and good governance.

The leaked audio conversation where the REC, Barrister Hudu Yunusa coerced the Fufore Collation Officer to manipulate the outcome of the elections was admitted by the REC, it is a crime that no sane society should overlook or remain silent. Also in clarity terms Binani displayed contempt for the people of Adamawa State and their democratic rights, further shows her contempt for INEC, which she feels she has in her hand bag.

Worsening the situation, Binani got INEC to dance to her tune as rumour has it that the units to conduct a rerun election have increased from 69 to 77 polling units spread across affected Local Government areas. This is something we believe is against the electoral act and violate the entire electoral process.
May we plead with some of our female activists to please concentrate more on developing strategies that will encourage and aid women to win elective positions.

May we draw the attention of the local and international community that Binani is never the winner of Adamawa Governorship election according to the results announced by INEC. She has never win and can never win even on the coming rerun because the anger of the electorate have been candled against her, by using the power of APC agenda to win the election. To impose her, will no doubt lead to stiff resistance because the end will not be palatable.

May I also put it on record Binani can't win the election because she falled out with the electorates. Let it be known, in her unit, Kofar Mahmud Ribadu (06) she lost out to PDP. Her Bamoi ward of Yola South Local Government she also woefully failed. Then one will want to ask why is her political strength? She can't control her political base talk more of winning the rerun election. However they choose to play the game in her favor

May we also say Women all over the world should not believe the wrong the narrative propagating around, that their fellow woman has won the election. Yes if truly Binani is the winner or she is even close to winning the polls is a fact base context that all should support. For God sake, she is not the winner, no one was declared to have won. The only fact of the matter is that Fintiri is leading with over 31, 250 votes.

As it stand, it's a fight to finish, a dogma clash of interest between the two hefty Lion and Lioness that will end up in destruction of innocent people if care is not taken.

It is a clarion call to all gladiators, men and women who God has placed in the position of authority to please join hands in saving Adamawa state because the desire and the power of woman is about rocking down the state as carnage and bloodbath beckons.

Mu'azu Aliyu Isa, an indigene of Fofure LGA wrote this piece from Ajiya Ward, Yola North LG Adamawa State.

By Lola Seriki-Idahosa ..A Concerned Ndokwa son Comrade Frank West I.N, a Rural community development Activist has accused the running mate of All Progressive Party (APC) Governorship Candidates Delta state RT Hon. Friday Osanebi of indulging so much in marginalizing and short-changing the good people of Ndokwa Nation.

Frank West specifically accused the ex Deputy Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly of deducting one hundred and eighty thousand Naira out of the two hundred thousand naira from pipeline surveillance contract slots meant for Ndokwa Nation to pay youths.

This was contained in an open letter address to RT Hon Friday Osanebi and made available to Tracereporters.

He described it as disturbing and challenged him to explain to the people in details the rational behind the deduction of the huge sum of #180,000 per slot?

According to Frank West, "Tantitan security services" own by Government Ekpemupolo popularly known as Tompolo gave you pipeline surveillance contract slots for "Ndokwa Nation" which happens to be a major oil producing region in Nigeria.

"I am also aware of the fact that Tantitan security services is paying you the sum of #200,000 per slot, while you shortchanged our people by paying them the sum of #20,000 per slot only".

"Sir, can you explain to us in details the rational behind the deduction of the huge sum of #180,000 per slot?"

"I also understand that Tantitan security services paid you two months per slot already while you paid our people one month salary only, despite the deduction of the sum of #180,000 per slot".

"Sir, is this how you plan to represent the good people of Ndokwa Nation as a Deputy Governor, if we were to vote for Delta state APC Governorship candidates?

"Sir, over the years, I have noticed, you have been wearing a mask of hatred towards the Development of Ndokwa Nation".

"You have indulged so much in marginalizing and shortchanging the good people of Ndokwa Nation in different ways in a bid to make the teaming Ndokwa youths your modern slave".

"Now the measures, we thought would defend the interest of our people has become a threat and an oppressor to our people itself?".

"RT Hon Friday Osanebi, not only will your likes be disgraced in public but you would be brought to justice on the forthcoming Gubernatorial election.

Reacting to the accusation, RT Hon Friday Osanebi denied the allegation and challenge the so called beneficiaries to report the alleged matter to police station.

According to him, it's not true. Is Frank West part of the beneficiaries? His just looking for trouble. I have no contract with Tompolo. I have no contract agreement with him. The beneficiaries should report the matter to police.

AS FIRS UNDER NAMI JUMPSTARTS THE ECONOMY

By:
Chukwudi Enekwechi

The Federal Inland Revenue Service as we know it is the federal government agency charged with mobilizing revenues through tax collections across the length and breadth of Nigeria for the development of the country. At a time when the country is witnessing a significant reduction in oil revenues (Nigeria’s major revenue earner) as a result of several factors, such as low levels of oil production, oil theft and the global oil glut, the Buhari administration has had to devise creative ways of generating revenues for the execution of numerous government projects.

With this policy direction and initiative, the Federal Inland Revenue Service took the challenge to bridge the yawning revenue gap. In doing this they expanded the tax net to include several profit-making companies and organisations which had prior to the emergence of the Buhari administration played artful dodgers in tax payments and remittances. Of course the FIRS also introduced other innovative measures which have today raised the tax revenue profile to N10.1trillion in 2022 from a low of N5trillion when he assumed office in 2019.

Suffice it to say that the increase in tax collections has remained stable and consistent since Alhaji Muhammed Nami assumed the leadership of the FIRS as the Executive Chairman. As an expert in tax administration he realized the federal government’s predicament in sourcing for funds that will help rejuvenate an economy buffeted by the vagaries of the sharp drop in global oil prices. Therefore, as the price of oil kept plummeting at the international market, Muhammed Nami along with his management team took the gauntlet by quickly adorning their thinking caps and worked round the clock to help the Buhar administration deliver on its mandate and campaign promises to the Nigerian people.

Since then the FIRS started witnessing a steady increase in tax collections, and the result is that Nigeria was able to survive the shocks associated with the unpredictable oil market. Simply put, the FIRS became the first federal government agency to achieve tangible results in the federal government’s revenue diversification policies.

To put the monumental feat achieved by the FIRS with the realization of N10.1 trillion in tax collection within a period of one year in a proper perspective, it is pertinent to take a cursory look at the following four years figures of tax collection in the country and they clearly show how the Nami-led FIRS has fared under an inclement economic weather.
In 2019, the agency realized N5.32 trillion; in 2020 the agency netted N4.9 trillion, this was the year that the COVID pandemic dealt a hard blow to the global economy; in 2021, the Service collected N6.45trillion, which was as at then the highest ever collected and over 100% of its collection target; while in 2022, it achieved the jaw-breaking highest tax collection ever of N10.1trillion.

Perhaps, one interesting aspect of this report is the increase in non-oil collection achieved by the Service. Non-oil collection stood at N5.96 trillion, while oil collection was N4.09trillion. Before now Nigeria was helplessly dependent on oil revenues, and the reality is that the country was in no advantageous position to control or influence the impact of changes of oil prices on our national economy.

The implication of these increases is that the FIRS has innovatively widened the scope of collectible taxes in Nigeria as well as applied an aggressive tax drive, and the result is that while oil prices were staggering across the globe, and to the detriment of oil-producing countries including Nigeria, the FIRS provided the financial succor that has helped Nigeria’s economy to withstand the debilitating impact and the federal government placed in a position to carry out its mandate of rendering service to the people.

2023: Afegbua berates Naja’atu's outburst on Tinubu
...... says no amount of blackmail can derail APC victory at the poll

https://tracereporters.com--A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Prince Kassim Afegbua has berated activist and Kano politician, Hajia Naja'atu Mohammed over her recent outburst and subsequent defection to the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying it was shameful act and not a distraction to the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s activities.

Afegbua said the APC will comfortably swim into victory at the poll, “not a million of Najaatu Mohammed can derail our overwhelming victory at the February 2023 general elections.”

In a statement issued, signed and made available to the newsmen on Monday, the former Edo State Commissioner of Information pointed out that Asiwaju Tinubu has defied all the insinuations to confound the public with his energetic campaign since November.

“Since his return from Saudi Arabia, no single day has gone by without one activity or the other. If able-bodied minds like Governors Ganduje, ElRufai, Bagudu, Badaru, Suleiman, Masari, Lalong, AbuBello, Yahaya Bello, Zulum, MaiBuni, Mutawallen, Yahaya, and Abdulrasaq, all serving Governors from the North under the platform of The APC, persons who see Asiwaju Tinubu on a regular basis, have not seen "dementia" in Tinubu,
“it means that Najaatu possesses spiritual binoculars and sees that which does not exist. There are other notable Nigerians in the Tinubu Campaign who can attest to his alertness , agility and energy. Trying to blackmail Asiwaju Tinubu or run him down will certainly not fetch Najaatu Mohammed extra meat from Atiku Abubakar's pot of soup. Asiwaju Tinubu is an idea whose time has come. God almighty will surely see his aspiration through to victory. It is interesting that Najaatu Mohammed has joined Atiku Abubakar's rottweiler colony, but she should please be honourable enough to bark with facts, and not mere conjectures. I will come her way again.” Afegbua said.

He expressed displeasure that, “even at the age of 67-year old, a Lady can still behave like a typical hustler, then Asiwaju Tinubu truly has a lot of work to do to empower such fellows when he becomes President. Last week, Najaatu Mohammed separated herself from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and joined the Atiku Abubakar's chequered aspiration. She loosely and lousily declared that but for the South-West media, Asiwaju Tinubu should not be allowed to become president.

“A Naja'atu that has always been on the side of justice; or supposedly, I should have said, has now latched on to Atiku Abubakar’s campaigns to further her hustle. Since then, she has been shouting like an uncultured rottweiler trying to demarket Tinubu; as if the APC candidate is not a man we see all the time. She says Tinubu cannot hold a tea cup; maybe she has been babysitting Asiwaju Tinubu and feeding him tea, or spoon feeding him each time he has a meal. The likes of Najaatu, and Bwala, came with the notion that there will be so much to salivate their appetite, but seeing that Asiwaju Tinubu was not forthcoming with free money, they decided to find the exit door.

“If Najaatu Mohammed had quietly exited and hid her shame, it would still have made some sense; but for her to be shouting at the top of her voice to undermine The APC candidate is the most ridiculous engagement of this lousy Lady who has failed in all her political contests. She has just joined her compatriot, another perennial loser; who has been contesting for president since 1992. Like him, the times that Najaatu Mohammed has contested, she has failed. She will soon meet her disappointment in the Atiku camp, because the mouth-watering financial greasing of the palm that she so desperately wants is not there. I doubt if Atiku Abubakar can match her appetite for easy money. The romance will soon go sour. Let it be on record that I said so.

“Najaatu Mohammed declared that Asiwaju Tinubu "cannot hold a tea cup" and that The APC candidate is "suffering from dementia". It is possible that Najaatu is talking about another Asiwaju Tinubu, certainly not the one we have been seeing campaigning everywhere. When Najaatu's new partner, Atiku Abubakar, went to Chatham House sometime ago, he went blank trying to deliver his written speech. He said there was interruption by only God knows what. Even when Reno Omokri rushed to his aid, he was still transfixed, looking helplessly because his mind had deserted him. That is a typical example of dementia and Atiku Abubakar exhibited that so eloquently. I do not quarel with Najaatu Mohammed for exiting the Tinubu camp to follow her heart, but to make empty conjectures and rhetorics in order to embellish her deep hunger and greed exposes her dubiety of purpose. That is usually the stock-in-trade of jobless minds who live on charity and free money.” Afegbua stressed.

The APC Chieftain however advised Nigeria politicians to always uphold the sanctity of patriotism and be guided by principle of fairness, justice and selflessness in whatever they do.

MACBAN urges security agencies to stop alleged killing of pastoralists in Taraba, Plateau

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), a Fulani Socisocultural Organization has called calling on the security agencies to put a stop to the alleged hunting and killings of pastoralists in Taraba and Plateau states by vigilante groups.

The National Secretary of
MACBAN, Alhaji Bello Aliyu Gotomo, who made the call in a statement on Monday in Abuja, emphasised the need for the security agencies to put an end to
the activities of vigilante mobs and arrest all those involved.

" The National Headquarters of MACBAN condemns the hunting and killing of innocent pastoralists by members of the local vigilante group in Bali Local Government areas of Taraba and some unknown gunmen in Bokkos and Barikin Ladi in Plateau states.

He said: " Reports reaching MACBAN headquarters indicate that on Nov. 25 2022, 13 innocent pastoralists were allegedly hunted and killed by members of the local vigilante in Jatau and Japan villages in Bali LGA in Taraba state.

" The vigilante group also rustled over 270 cows and took several motorcycles of pastoralists passing through the area.

"This dastardly and heinous crime took place in the full glare of constituted authorities with no arrest made so far."

Gotomo noted that no one has the right to take life of any citizen unless sanctioned by constituted authorities.

He called on the Federal and State Governments to checkmate the activities of the overzealous members of the vigilante which are partly responsible to the spiralling of insecurity in the Northwest.

He said; " And therefore Taraba ought to learn a lesson. We frown at a situation where the entire security architecture is left in the hands of the local vigilante groups like what’s happening presently in Bali LGA of Taraba State.

" We recall the crisis in Bali started on the Oct. 2022 when members of the vigilante group and their collaborators killed 12 pastoralists in Zude village also in Bali LGA and rustled 704 cattle and took away over 30 motorcycles, to date no one had been arrested for these crimes.

" Allowing impunity is the major reason that insecurity is escalating in the country and it is time to deal decisively with the activities of so-called vigilante to allow Taraba to be plunged into the kind of crisis Zamfara and Katsina states are going through."

The national secretary also called on the Plateau State Government and the security agencies to fish out those responsible for the killing of innocent herders and farmers in the state.

" As a responsible Association, we are ready to assist all those state Governments and the security agencies in dealing with erring pastoralist.

" We had always partnered Governments and security agencies before and we will continue to work for peace and security for all Nigerians," he said.

PoliticsYobe North Senatorial District Opposes Ahmed Lawan Leadership Style by lolanews(op): 10:58pm On Nov 13, 2022
By Lola Seriki-Idahosa --The people of Bade Local Government Area in Yobe North Senatorial District, Yobe state has expressed disappointment over the leadership style of Senate president, Dr. Ahmed Lawan.

In a press statement signed by the Bade Progressive Forum, BPF and made available to Trace Reporters, stated that the nomination of one Ibrahim Babagana (YUREMA) as the Bade LG Committee Caretaker Chairman by the senate president has further divide the constituents.

According to the statement, "It is of note that the Constituents from Bade LGA and other communities in the Yobe North Senatorial District are not please with the leadership style of the President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, PhD, GCON.

"These gross escalated when the President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan nominated one Ibrahim Babagana (YUREMA), as the Bade Local Government Committee Caretaker Chairman.

"It is generally believe that the nominated Ibrahim Babagana is not supposed to be the beneficiary of such elevated seat, despite commitments from other loyalists who stood firm in both thick and thin.

"Parts of what we can describe as marginasation in Dr. Lawan's style of leadership and selection are stated thus:
Despite that Bade tribe is the majority in the local Government, the Commissioner is from Manga tribe.

"Secondly, APC Party Chairman is also from Manga tribe. The Co- ordinator Tinubu/Shatima is from Manga tribe and Chairman caretaker committee selected by Dr. Ahmed I. Lawan is from the same Manga tribe, Ibrahim Babagana (Yurema) by name.

"With all these imbalances, Bade tribe have been marginalized by Dr. Ahmed I Lawan and his so called Boys.

"The President of the Senate should know that, all power belong to Allah and He will give to whoever He wishes.

"Lawan deliberate act of hindering the political rise of any Bade and Katuzu sons in particular will not help him retain power forever.

"We call on the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, CFR to also look into these inbalances and act accordingly in redressing these anormalies. Our amiable Governor should remember that the Yobe indigents entrusted him the leadership, which is purely an act of Allah and every human will stand before Him on the judgement day to account for his or her deeds.

"For the President of the Senate to restore this love and cooperation from the Base tribe, he must henceforth shelve all personal interests in selecting political appointments and offices. When this is done, there will be a cooperation and understanding among the people.

"The Bade people are well known to peaceful neighbourliness, we are dedicated to the growth of our communities and we are fully in support of the activities of the President of the Senate when we are part of the plans. We urged our dear Leader, Dr. Ahmad Lawan to adjust these imbalances and place as parts of his priority, the Bade tribe.

PoliticsRevealed: How Wike Is Plotting To Deal With Atiku by lolanews(op): 5:47pm On Aug 28, 2022
Revealed: How Wike Is Plotting To Deal With Atiku

…Says, PDP flagbearer is working with his enemies

The political feud between the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar seems to have some deep thereby making amicable resolution difficult to achieve.

This was in spite of the strenuous efforts by the leadership of the PDP and its presidential candidate to paper the cracks arising from the presidential nomination and the vice president pick including last week’s meeting in London by former vice president Atiku Abubakar and Governor Wike.

Forefront News gathered that Governor Wike may have resolved to scorn any and every moves to pacify him to support the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar thus, determined to continue to deploy the present hide-and-seek tactics even after the reconciliation meeting in London.

Specifically, Wike was quoted to have frequently told his close allies particularly the trio of Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Samuel Ortom of Benue and Ikpeazu of Abia State that there is no way he can reconcile with Atiku when he is actively hobnobbing with his political enemies that include former National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Austin Opara, Senator Lee Maeba, Mr. Celestin Omehia, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State among others and their supporters.

Wike was believed to have also openly complained that Atiku has openly accepted them into his fold as a way of proving to him that he has other people that can work for him outside himself.

It was further gathered that it was to make thiings difficult for Atiku that Wike decided to increase his demands to six points in their London meeting, top of which is the removal of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as National Chairman of the PDP and insistence that he should be allowed to produce a replacement.

Wike, it was gathered equally demanded a signed commitment from Atiku to serve for only one term just as he wants to be allowed to also nominate principal officers of the National Assembly and some ministers if PDP wins the 2023 presidential election among others.

A source privy to discussions with his allies before the meeting, quoted Governor Wike to have also said that; "Atiku wants me to support him, yet he has surrounded himself with my enemies both in Rivers State and elsewhere. Is Uche Secondus not with him? Godwin Obaseki, Austin Opara, Celestine Omehia, Lee Maeba, and all those fighting me are in his camp, yet he needs my support”.

"We will place one hurdle and condition after another until the election time. If he does not accept my nominated candidate to replace Ayu (the Party national chairman), another round of controversy would brew up. “I know that he (Atiku) will not be able to accept or meet all the conditions. The bottom line is that he will not want to do away with those people and once the conditions are not met, this stand-off will continue because I cannot support him with those working with him and working against me," Wike was quoted by a source close to him at the London meeting.

Curiously, Governor Wike, who championed the election of Prince Secondus as PDP National chairman after the court sacked Senator Modu Sheriff was also the arrowhead of Secondus’ removal last year apparently to pave way for his ambition as presidential candidate of the Party. Wike and Secondus are both from Rivers State.

Forefront News also gathered that most of the demands Governor Wike is making are smokescreen to conceal his real anger of the fact that Atiku is in league with those he presently perceives as working against him especially the election of the Accountant General of the Rivers State, who he anointed as governorship candidate of the PDP for Rivers State.

However, checks by our correspondent indicated that while Atiku is desirous of genuine peace, he and his close allies are in the know of some of the moves by Governor Wike as the presidential candidate is believed to be deploying his experience in politics and as a good Party man to bend backwards to accommodate all interests since a political party is a mass movement in which everybody is considered imported as against a closed shop or club with determined membership.

A chieftain of the PDP who does not want his name in print owing to the plea by Atiku for members of the Party to stop commenting on the Wike’s matter, said that it is not possible for the PDP flagbearer to suddenly disconnect from longtime associates and friends with some dating back to 30 years, all because another member says; “a friend of my enemies is my enemy".

He further said; “Recall that Wike posted on his Facebook and Twitter handle shortly after the presidential primaries in Abuja stating; I made a vow to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that I will support whoever emerges from the PDP Presidential Primaries. And I am not going to go back on my word. We cannot abandon the PDP, we will be fully supporting Atiku Abubakar, why has the music changed just few days after? Personal interest? I think that majority of party members are presently more concerned about rescuing Nigeria first before any personal interest” he said.

It was also gathered that while the trio of Governors Makinde, Akume and Ikeazu are part of the Wike’s team, they are however not too comfortable with the hard stance of the Rivers governor as stretching it further may have consequences for their own election as well.

Governors Ortom and Ikpeazu are contesting for the Senate whose election is taking place same day and time with that of the presidency thus, may find themselves in a tight corner on how to separate their election from that of the presidential candidate.

Similarly, Governor Makinde is going for a second term and the outcome of the presidential election is most likely going to have an effect on his re-election either way it goes.

Deserving Cheers For DSS Boss, Gentleman Bichi

BY AMOS DUNIA

"My vision is to create a friendly work environment, enhance staff capacity through training and welfare, as well as ensure that the DSS remains a democratically-complaint intelligence agency in Nigeria" - Yusuf Magaji Bichi.

With the commencement of his second four-year tenure beckoning on September 14, 2022, Alhaji Yusuf Magaji Bichi has been roundly described as a man of many parts given his versatility, and outstanding deliveries in many fields of covert actions as well as Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

Currently calling the shots as Director General of the State Security Service (SSS), popularly called the Department of State Service (DSS), Bichi sees the overriding goal of intelligence from the perspective of positive impact on governance, particularly in actualising the fundamental objective and principles of government.

The recent solidarity visit by the Forum of Retired Directors (FORD) of the DSS, where the members commended his sterling leadership qualities, did present an opportunity for these accomplished personalities to appreciate Bichi's core competencies in Conflict management, Risk and Vulnerability Assessment, Human Resource Management, Investigation, and Protective Operations.

Indeed, Bichi's patriotic zeal and commitment to Nigeria's unity is aptly captured in one of his numerous nationalistic speeches in which he said; "Since my return to the organisation, I have recommitted myself to selfless service, both to it and the country. For me, an opportunity like this is one that calls for greater responsibility and dedication."

This alumnus of the prestigious National Defence College (NDC), where he bagged a Fellow of the War College (FWC) in 2007, has brought inventiveness, vision, and humane disposition to his headship of an organisation that was once touted by the public either rightly or wrongly based on perception as "notorious for illegal arrests and detention of citizens, abuse of court orders, deep partisanship and human rights abuses”.

Under his current leadership, the nation’s secret police, against all odds, have received rave reviews, even from ardent critics, for their many successful operations and exploits that are focused on its statutory duty of detecting and preventing crimes as well as evolving counter-measures against threats to Nigeria's internal security and indivisibility.

Not mincing words in his declaration that "My vision is to create a friendly work environment, enhance staff capacity through training and welfare, as well as ensure that the DSS remains a democratically-complaint intelligence agency in Nigeria", the Director General believes sustained innovations are required by the Service to continually realise its statutory mandate of ensuring the country's internal security.

Though having no intention of advertising the achievements and actionable intelligence of the SSS under his watch given the global best practice of "on the need-to-know basis", it is important to acknowledge the Secret Police's pivotal role as an intelligence agency that has not shied away from in its statutory responsibilities of implementing strategies with huge success in not only tackling insecurity but also is saving the nation from avoidable disintegration.

Through the Service's machinery, in partnership with sister security and intelligence agencies, the famous pension thief and fugitive, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, was brought in to answer for his crimes; successes are being recorded in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations across the North East region; while serviceable intelligence is daily provided for the anti-corruption agencies as part of numerous covet but successful operations to aid national security and anti-corruption drive.

Also, in synergy with other security agencies, the SSS' constructive actions before, during, and after the #EndSARS, did a lot to curtail the possible irreparable backlashes of clandestine elements that at some points seized control of the peaceful #EndSARS protests.

Similarly, sustained intelligence and robust enforcement/joint operations with sister agencies have brought about recognisable accomplishments in the battle against internet and advance fee frauds, kidnapping, banditry, arms trafficking, militancy, economic crimes, and others too numerous to mention.

It is therefore not surprising to watchers of events that the impressive performance by the SSS, under his watch, has earned him a tenure extension for another four years.

The man, whose career started in the security division of the Cabinet Office in Kano from where he moved on to the defunct Nigerian Security Organization (NSO) before it metamorphosed into the SSS, was first appointed in September 2018 when the former Acting Director General, Matthew Seiyefa retired from the Service.

That the President resisted mounting pressure to replace him with other candidates proposed for appointment as the Service's Chief Executive is a pointer to the Presidency's confidence in Bichi's abilities and capabilities which are clearly manifested in his reinvention of the SSS for effective service delivery on all fronts in the last four years.

There is no denying the fact that he has introduced novelty into security intelligence gathering; made the Service become more public friendly by appointing a core professional to manage its Public Relations department. This singular decision has repositioned and re-engineered the Service to have a face that provides declassified information and makes itself more accessible to the media and members of the public. Besides its robust collaboration with the Presidential communication to periodically brief media managers, the Service is continually enhancing public education on preventive measures against crimes through the effective deployment of strategic communication.

Internally, his four-year tenure has brought about an improved welfare scheme for staff through provisions of quality housing accommodation, prompt payment of allowances, and duty tours among other entitlements.

Born on 23 February 1956 in Hagagawa Quarters of Bichi Local Government of Kano State, the 66-year-old Spymaster is a firm believer in designing and implementing new strategies built on the foundation of robust collaboration and stakeholders' engagement.

And in charging the Service personnel to remain focused, proactive, and productive while dealing with threat projections and dynamics, the SSS Boss "strongly believes that citizens have a place in national security management" given that the primary purpose of government is security and welfare of the people.

A product of Danbatta Secondary School, Kano State College of Advanced Studies, and the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he graduated with a B.Sc in Political Science, he is happily married with children, and good wishes are surely trailing him for a more success-ridden and exploits-oriented second tenure going forward.

As projected in President Buhari's endorsement of his reappointment, Bichi is geared up “to continue with the good work he is doing in intelligence gathering which has helped greatly to put things in check in the nation’s security sector.”

No doubt here lies the well-deserved and earned applauses for the man Bichi who, on behalf of the Service, has not relented in reassuring citizens, residents, and indeed, the government, of its unalloyed commitment to the public safety and national security.

Subsidy Investigations: FIRS Explains, Our Statutory Role Is Tax Enforcement, Collection, Not Use Of Funds

Trace Reporters --The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has responded to queries by the Special Adhoc Committee on Petroleum Subsidy Regime tasked to investigate petroleum products subsidy in Nigeria, that its role is purely the collection of revenue for government and not keeping records of how the monies are expended.

Speaking at the Committee sitting, the Executive Chairman, FIRS, Muhammad Nami, who was represented by the FIRS Coordinating Director, Compliance Support Group, Dr. Dick Irri, explained the role of the Service as provided by its Establishment Act was confined to the assessment of taxpayers, collection of taxes, accounting for and enforcement of taxes that were due to the government of the Federation.

“The Service’s statutory functions remains that of assessment, collection, accounting, and enforcement of payment of taxes that are due to the Government of the Federation and any of its agencies;” he explained, “taxes collected by the FIRS are usually shared amongst the three tiers of the government in line with the constitution of the country; and FIRS does not maintain records of what the funds are used for by the three tiers of government. The Service also does not have the power to ask for such records.”

Explaining earlier, the Executive Chairman had stated that the request by the Committee for information on Subsidy payments and releases were not tax related, and thus were not within the statutory powers of the Service to respond to.

The Special Adhoc Committee had written to the FIRS requesting information on Subsidy Payment releases from the Consolidated Revenue Account, Subsidy claims, lodgment of FOREX into the Consolidated Revenue Account by the NNPC, among others.

“The Service holds the Adhoc Committee on Petroleum Products subsidy Regime and other Committees of the National Assembly in high esteem and will always give necessary support to ensure the success of their oversight functions;

“All the tax related information requested on your letter dated 1st July, 2022 has been duly submitted;

“All the 16 items listed on your letter dated 5th August 2022 are not tax related and also are not part of the responsibilities of the Service,” the FIRS Executive Chairman explained.

Apologising for his inability to appear in person, the Executive Chairman stated that his absence was due to other official national engagements outside the Federal Capital Territory.

The Special Ad-Hoc Committee on Petroleum Products Subsidy Regime, chaired by Hon. (Arc) Ibrahim Al-Mustpaha Aliyu was constituted in June 2022 with a mandate to investigate the Petroleum Products Subsidy Regime covering the periods from 2013-2021.

Projects commissioning: Betrayal and Quintessentiality of Wamakko's Invite By Wike

By Malami Abdulhakeem, PhD

Nyesom Wike has opened a new page in his political history. Though not new in Nigeria’s political landscape, the Rivers state governor's recent action of inviting APC chieftains to commission projects executed by the state government, has continued to marvel most observers.

Wike, as one of the country's most performing governors, has a bevy of projects executed by his administration. His post-PDP primary activity is the inauguration of these projects to which, though a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in which he contested to be the party’s presidential candidate, he invited members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to commission them.

In a normal situation, there could be said to be nothing wrong in doing that. But for him and his followers, the action is to smite the PDP, which he believed ditched him at the party primary. He feels bitter and has made comments reminiscent of anger. Wike has accommodated visits by members of the ruling APC, which have also signified political romance that is aimed at wooing him to the party.

Though he has not announced his plans on his next line of action, what is abnormal but expected is his resolve to invite APC members to commission his projects. But no, what is more attractive is Wike’s invitation of former Sokoto state governor and a serving Senator in the APC, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.

Wamakko’s invitation is 'stirlingly' quintessential because it has provoked many thoughts and, to some extent, created the feelings that, as late Chinua Achebe would say, it is "no longer at ease" between two age-long friends and "the centre can no longer hold."

The betrayal

Sokoto state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Wike have been identified as two close friends. So close that when the former contested for the presidency in 2019, the former was rumoured to have bankrolled his electioneering. As a result, he came second after Atiku Abubakar at the party's primary. Wike was also reported to have vigorously campaigned for Tambuwal, resulting in that position. However, the indication of the deteriorating relationship became apparent when the duo contested for the presidential ticket of the party and each not willing to step down for the other.

At the approach of the preparations for party primaries, Wike became a staunch pro-rotational presidency to the South. He has insisted that political parties, especially one he is a member - the PDP must zone the presidency to the southern part of the country. He had argued that the North had had its share of the rotation.

Surprisingly however, his bossom friend, Tambuwal had remained adamant to his friends agitation. He not only insisted that the presidency should be open for all members of the party, who so wished, to contest, Tambuwal also threw in his towel as if to say "to hell with you, Wike". And like a drama at the PDP primary, the Sokoto governor did not only withdraw from the race but specifically told his supporters to vote for Atiku Abubakar and not his friend, Wike. Tambuwal’s support for Atiku sent the final confirmation to observers of the inner workings of the Tambuwal/Wike relationship that the bond had broken beyond repairs.

Quintessentiality

Why would Wike invite Wamakko to commission projects in Rivers instead of Tambuwal or any other member of the PDP in Sokoto state? Of course, it was the peak of the deterioration of relationship between the two. Pundits say that for Tambuwal to have stepped down for Atiku instead of his hitherto FRIEND, the Sokoto governor had worked at removing the 'R' in FRIEND and had politically strengthened FIEND-SHIP.

What the 'quintessentiality' of Wamakko’s invite to Rivers is not only in the inauguration of projects. Wamakko did much more than commission a road project. He corrected a wrong notion. Wike, at the commissioning of the road to which he invited Wamakko, said he would have won the PDP presidential primary were it not for the politics of religion and ethnicity that played out and denied him victory.

Reacting to Wike’s notion however, Wamakko pointed out that religion was not a major factor in Nigeria’s national elections. “My brother, I beg to disagree that you lost the election during the last PDP convention because of religion. This is because Muslims voted for Chief Olusegun Obasanjo twice as president of this country. Muslims also voted twice for former President Goodluck Jonathan, who is from the South-south geopolitical zone. I am sorry, sir, I have to disagree with you on the matter of religion here. Take note, please," the former Sokoto governor said.

What Wamakko did not tell (because Wike political observers know) was that he lost because he was betrayed by his 'FRIEND'. The gentleman Senator would not have remembered Wike of the real reason he lost. Wike was talking with a sensible Wamakko. Atiku scored 371 followed by Wike who scored 237 votes. Assuming that Tambuwal would score at list 150 votes all things being equal. If he stepped down for Wike and announced that his supporters should vote for the Rivers governor, Wike would have garnered 387 votes to beat Atiku.

True, betrayal not religion made Wike lost the PDP presidential primary.

Like Justices, the job of the State Security Services (SSS) is a difficult one just as it is hardly appreciated even when the Service try to give clues to possible dangers. It was quite a disturbing news on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 when the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Idris Wase announced at pleneray of the lower chamber of the National Assembly that he read 44 intelligence reports submitted by the SSS to the relevant authorities but were not acted on before the attack on the Kuje Medium Security Correctional Custodial popularly called Kuje Prison.

The revelation completely put a lie to the position adopted by the Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Dingyadi, who said on national television that the terrorists who attacked the Kuje Correctional Centre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), succeeded largely due to their superior fire power.

Most disturbing from Dingyadi's comments was the fact that his assertion preceded the outcome of the National Security Council (NSC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House Villa in Abuja.

It was quite heartrending that the Minister boldly declared that the security personnel at Kuje Prison facility did their best but were subdued by the terrorists' superior weaponry during the attack. And to every discerning mind, this submission clearly speaks volumes about the challenges facing the Nigerian state in protecting and securing the lives and property of its citizenry.

With reports in the public space that adequate intelligence was obtained with necessary advisory from official as well as non-official sources particularly the DSS, it therefore beats ones imagination where lies the fault. Concerned over the development, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Idris Wase disclosed at plenary of the legislative chamber on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 that he personally read 44 Intelligence reports that were compiled and submitted to the relevant agencies by the State Security Service also known as the DSS. It is therefore befuddling for the Minister to have relate the unfortunate event by saying that the raid occurred; “because nobody anticipated it, and the few people could not withstand the number that they came with. I think that’s what happened".

Also, if reports are true that the attackers operated within the Correctional Centre for about three hours, then Dingyadi's submission that; “I think what helped them was the number of people they came with and the superior weapons they had" is most unfortunate coming from an official who should be taking responsibility for failing in his duties to react appropriately in the circumstance.

More so, by its security architecture, the FCT is structured in such a manner that security back-up to access any point of attack within the nation's capital can only take between 30 to 45 minutes all things being equal. Therefore, this reality effectively punctures the official submission that the attackers successfully operated and escaped before reinforcements could arrive at the Correctional Centre.

In the aftermath of this regrettable incident, one cannot ignore the observations about insiders' compromise in the security system; lack of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in Nigerian correctional centres; and poor utilisation of intelligence reports diligently accessed and issued by the DSS. It is worrisome that while an arm of the security agencies, the DSS carried out its expected role and timely too, its efforts were not complimented by others. This was the point the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan insightfully posited that; “The attack on this correctional facility is symptomatic of security failure. The attack is only a culmination of the failure and could only have been possible with the collaboration of insiders within the nation’s correctional system."

Lawan's disappointment after assessing the Medium Security Custodial facility, was further expressed thus; “We were told that an estimated 300 terrorists attacked this facility. They came on foot, and I believe they should have been detected. In the first place, 300 people will not come for an operation like this without planning. Planning must have taken a week, a month or a bit more”.

Arising from these postulations by Nigeria's number three citizen, the question that necessarily must be asked is: "For how long would Nigerians continue to entertain the avalanche of failed promises and assurances of their safety and secured environment as mouthed by the Police Affairs Minister when he said; “We are assuring the nation and Nigerians in general that arrangements have been made to ensure that full investigations are carried out to ensure that a repeat of these incidences will not occur."

Agreed that in addressing security issues, absolute care needs to be taken as not to give out details of what has been done; being done; and is to be done, but there is an urgent need to clearly assure Nigerians, with concrete proofs, that the government is on top of the situation in securing their lives and property nationwide.

The point remains that no matter the existing and emerging security challenges in the polity, the government and all its security apparatuses cannot afford to display helplessness or incapability in confronting the situation headlong and finding lasting solutions to the growing insecurity in the country.

As key stakeholders in the Nigerian project, it is not too much for citizens to demand that the Federal Government move to start holding public functionaries accountable and responsible for the offices they occupy.

Nigeria should be a country where Mr President would not have to be "surprised that what happened to Kuje Prison actually took place in spite of the advanced intelligence reports by the DSS and all the security arrangement that has been made to ensure that such an incident does not happen" as conveyed by the Police Affairs Minister.

Truth be told, the country is not lacking in intelligence gathering by the relevant agencies as exemplified by the DSS. The challenge clearly has to do with using the available information purposefully to arrest any untoward situation before it occurs or when the need arises.

Yes, our desire is boasting of a country where intelligence would be given priority attention and proactive measures always taken to ensure that the citizens are well secured and protected at all times.

Moving toward May 29, 2023, being the terminal date of the Muhammad Buhari's presidency, the minimum standard from the government should be its commitment and resolve to create the much needed secured environment and conducive atmosphere for a credible; peaceful; and transparent elections next year.

It is achievable.

Politics2023 Polls: Social Media, Fake News Threats Real, By Victor Buoro by lolanews(op): 9:25am On Jul 13, 2022
2023 Polls: Social Media, FAKE NEWS Threats Real
BY VICTOR BUORO

With political events building up towards the 2023 general elections, efforts by stakeholders, ranging from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Political parties, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and Security agencies to ensure a hitch-free and successful exercise must be commended by all well-meaning Nigerians.

Being daily inundated by the challenges the spread of FAKE NEWS and hate speeches on social media poses, the Department of State Services (DSS), has raised an alarm that these issues are certainly the biggest threat to hitch-free and successful general elections in 2023.

Though the doubters of this advisory are generally not in short supply, the DSS' warning that misinformation and unguarded statements, amplified by the media, could derail efforts to deepen Nigeria’s democracy cannot be taken for granted by all stakeholders in the political space.

Therefore, it is important to commend the nation's secret police for exuding boldness and dexterity in declaring to media practitioners, both traditional and online media that by sharing FAKE NEWS, alongside incorrect and inflammatory commentaries, they have inadvertently instigated crisis and violence in parts of the country.

Needing no patronising, nobody can fault the DSS' spokesperson, Dr. Peter Afunanya's submission that FAKE NEWS and inflammatory incendiary speeches have the potential to inflict huge harm on Nigeria’s unity, thus, the need for media practitioners to as a matter of national importance, shun FAKE NEWS and rather work towards the promotion of unity, progress, and peaceful co-existence in the country

According to Afunanya, heading towards the elections, with upbeat political programmes, "What the media and every stakeholder must do is ensure that the game is played according to rules. Nigerians must avoid any act that promotes hate and disintegration and say no to the separatist movements, terrorism, FAKE NEWS, HATE SPEECH, religious bigotry, and other acts that tend to divide us as a nation.

Afunanya cannot be wrong in his concerns that “Social media and FAKE NEWS are the biggest threat to human existence not only to elections," and urging media colleagues to exercise restraint and always fact-check information before publishing is definitely not out of place because as he pointed out "FAKE NEWS is a major cause of violence in our society now."

And his subtle caution that slanting news to achieve ulterior motives should be avoided as well as pledging that the “DSS won’t abdicate its responsibilities and would continue to do the right thing no matter whose ox is gored” are well noted.

Though not in any way holding brief for the security agencies, whose personnel are sometimes overzealous in their service delivery, it is imperative to advise that the media must also be circumspect in their hasty defence of culprits and perpetrators when they are confronted with their missteps and eventual demand to steer clear of acts capable of undermining national security.

Amid such awkward circumstances, it will obviously be irresponsible to expect that relevant authorities of government will "standby idly and watch miscreants and mischief-makers bring avoidable chaos and disorder upon the nation"

By and large, given the popular saying that “Nigeria is the only country we have and everyone must put hands on deck to promote peace and unity in the polity, it may not be asking too much that the media and journalists should ordinarily be in the forefront of ensuring these two important elements of nationhood have a permanent abode in Nigeria going forward.

Responsibility and patriotism demand that all stakeholders are law-abiding and observe the rules of engagement to present the desired atmosphere for the Police and sister security agencies to resolutely provide adequate security throughout the period of the elections and ensure that the exercise is peaceful and successful.

The counsel that politicians and the youths should shun all acts of violence capable of undermining the success of the 2023 polls cannot be overemphasised if the DSS, like other agencies, must "professionally discharge its statutory mandate which, among others, is to detect and prevent threats and crimes against the internal security of Nigeria“.

Happily, the Service assurance of its resolve to breathe down the necks of criminals and their collaborators whose activities are inimical to the elections, identify and arrest them for prosecution is heartwarming news.

On the strength of such a declaration, the media, as key stakeholders, would not be shying away from its responsibility as the Fourth Estate of the realm wooing the public to support security agencies and INEC to conduct violence-free elections.
Fake Registration Centre, Extortion

Away from its admonitory on next year’s polls, another cheering news coming from the DSS is the arrest of three individuals allegedly operating a fake Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) centre and extorting eligible voters with the promise of enrolling them in the ongoing registration exercise in Nasarawa state.

As explained by the INEC acting Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity, Ibrahim Onawo, it is kudos to the Service eagle-eye operatives for nabbing three suspects while distributing illegal registration forms to eligible voters at the Government Science Secondary School, Lafia.
Heartwarming is the fact that the suspects' arrest followed a tip-off by the committee set up recently to investigate alleged extortion of eligible voters in the state, a development that aptly demonstrates the public partnership that the DSS is continuously coveting to rein in criminal elements and check their unwholesome activities across the country.

PoliticsMuslim-muslim Ticket: A Monster Against Nigeria Unity, Says Kaduna CAN Chairman by lolanews(op): 12:56pm On Jul 11, 2022
By Lola Seriki- Idahosa. Trace Reporters --Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) kaduna state chapter has condemned Muslim-Muslim ticket, saying that its a Monster Against The Unity of Nigeria and An Act of Bridging the Nigerian Federal Character Constitutional Principle.

In a Press Statement signed by CAN chairmann Kaduna State Chapter, Rev. John Joseph Hayab on 11th July 2022 and made available to tracereporters in kaduna said the ruling party is bias in government and against some specific tribes in Nigeria.

Below is the full context of the press statement:
To remove bias in government against any specific tribe, at least in form, the Nigerian Federal Character Framework was authoritatively captured in Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution with this description: “…the government of the Federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the federal character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons from a few states or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in that government or in any of its agencies.”

This statement is to ensure the principle that all public service institutions fairly reflect the linguistic, religious, ethnic, and geographic diversity of the country. the government of the Federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the federal character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons from a few states or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in that government or in any of its agencies.

Today there are a lot of concerns from Nigerians over a particular party’s consideration of a Muslim-Muslim ticket, last week we stated our position in clear terms to establish that the ill decision of a particular political party is not for us a thing of concern, where we clearly illustrated, that when I wish to eat rice and beans and a particular restaurant choses to cook only white rice that has not given me any reason to worry because simply what I will need to do is to move to the other restaurants that have prepared what I desire to eat.

However, just to state the obvious on the matter at hand, though the electorates have no reason to raise eyebrows over wrong decision by any political party. But that we have no reason to be worried about it does not also suggest that such a decision is not condemnable.

The implication of such a decision is that such a candidate has no respect for the unity, peace and progress of Nigeria, it also suggests that the candidate is just a candidate that priorities selfishness, greed and personal unhealthy interest over the good of the nation.

The Federal character principle that we talked of above was the product of Gen Yakubu Gowon Administration when after the Civil War it was believed that a particular group occupied major ministries in the nation.

But clearly we all know, many have just course to argue that leadership in Nigeria in the most recent past is with high ethnic nepotism, well one can rightly say this is another phase of it in religious shade.

It is sad that the constitution clearly states that “ The Federal Republic of Nigeria shall not be governed, nor shall any persons or group of persons take control of the Government of Nigeria or any part thereof, except in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution ” .

Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be a State based on the principle And that “ The principles of democracy and social justice ” , with the very divisive challenges of poor security, hunger, a dying economy to mention but these.

At a time when Nigeria needs a unifying and productive leader, a consider a one sided, divisive good candidate cannot selection of a running mate despite all genuine agitations against such. This shows that should theses persons be elected the y that this candidate s will not be listening leaders, it shows are insensitive to the concerns of the people and does not care heat ing the system for selfish gains as they appear disinterested in the unity of the country but their selfish ambition.

The refusal to listen to wise counsel on this is a confirmation of the anxiety of the people. Well as earlier stated, this is not a problem to us as an association serving as the voice of the church.

We have performed our role as the voice of the church in the political and social arena, that is our simple role as far as this and the 2023 elections is concern.

But every candidate know that he is just one option among others in the should 18 approved political parties for the over 84,004,084 of Nigerian voters in the 176,846 polling units to choose from.

As leaders we will want every political party to know that we will educate, sensitize, and mobilize our ever faithful followers to vote against anything that we judge as a danger against the unity, peace, progress and development of Nigeria. We will reiterate that the political party has her right of will to make decisions that she judge best for her, but they should know to option to the electorate among many other options. For that their decisions only end as an Thankfully 2023 is never going to be business as usual. Thank you for listening.

PoliticsApc’s Defections And Wamakko’s Journey To Political Failure by lolanews(op): 10:52am On Jul 01, 2022
APC’s Defections and Wamakko’s Journey to Political Failure

By Lauwali Mati Na Alhaji Dauda

It is now evident that the worries and lamentations by the Sokoto state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following our defection seem to grow beyond normal proportion. These only show the importance of our action to leave the APC, which is informed by Sen. Aliyu Wamakko’s lies, deceit and selfishness, and whose leadership style is an unknown malady to the people of the state.

Achida, the state chairman of the party said during a press conference on Thursday that, “a battle line has been drawn, between the APC and the selfish political mercenaries”. Indeed the time has now come when the truth must be unveiled and for us to expose the true Wamakko for the people of Sokoto to understand who he really is.

Our defection id definitely as a result of Wamakko’s shylock grip where in the name of the people, he amasses so much at the detriment of his followers. This and our subsequent expose will surely put off the veil that he has placed on the faces of his blind followers so that they can have informed decision and to know what the APC today has become in Sokoto state.

The recurrent reference to us by the APC as a result of our defection to the PDP, signals the magnitude of the pain that Wamakko and his stooges are suffering. It is therefore another deceit for Achida to state that, “We are happy to see the formal departure of PDP moles…” when indeed, Wamakko today does not sleep because of the loss he has caused the APC by our action. For us, we have moved on.

Wamakko’s politics of manipulation and selfishness will continue to witness mass exodus and then, its supporters will get to know the real man in him. True to Achida’s statement, “there are selfish individuals, who are only interested in their personal comfort, rather than the welfare of the people they claim to represent.” In our subsequent article, we shall come up with data on the man whose actions fit the description of “only interested in their personal comfort”.

It could not be true of Achida’s statement to say that, “none of the so called decampees gave any acceptable reason that attracted him to the unfortunate PDP bandwagon.” We did not expect the APC to see reasons expressed in our various speeches as tangible enough. We however are sure that senior members of party also discuss those reasons as tying down the party in the state; they discuss the leadership issues in the APC, but there is nothing they can do. Scores are still in the APC under Wamakko because they have been hypnotized into feeling that they have no option than to stay.

One of those lies told by Wamakko and believed by the people is his claim that he makes people to be what they are. In Achida’s statement, he claimed that “…the entire group is made up of people who have turned their backs on those that were instrumental to bringing them into political limelight. Among them are people who became Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, after being single handedly nominated by Senator Wamakko.” This is a blatant lie and Wamakko knows this. He was never in the know of those instrumental to Yusuf Suleiman’s appointment as Minister. If he ever claimed so anywhere, he lied. If however it is a mere speculation by his stooges, know from today that Wamakko never nominated Yusuf Suleiman to be appointed minister. If Wamakko had the fore-knowledge, he rather would have nominated Ahmed Aliyu. Again, let it be known that even though Faruk Malami has not defected yet, Wamakko was not instrumental to his appointment as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Jordan, and Wamakko knows this. If he knew that Malami was being considered to be appointed as Ambassador, he would rather have nominated Ahmed Aliyu.

Some further claims by some ignorant Wamakko supporters are that he is instrumental to the appointment of most Sokoto sons or daughters. Examples of these are the appointments of General Farouk Yahaya as Chief of Army Staff and Haliru Nababa as Controller General of Nigerian Correctional Service. On their appointments, he gave the impression that he was instrumental. These are false beliefs because he never was.

Of Achida’s claim that Wamakko “single handedly sponsored some to the State and National Assemblies”, we say that it not true. Wamakko cannot say the same of Yusuf Isah Kurdula who in 2019 was only sponsored by his people to represent Gudu/Tangaza Federal Constituency until the last shambolic primary elections by the APC. If Wamakko had his way, Sani Yakubu would have been at the National Assembly in 2019.

LEST I FORGET

Wamakko collects billions of Naira as support for Sokoto APC and doles out ONLY peanuts to support it. No APC executive today in the state is paid any salary while he collects billions for their upkeep! I challenge any party executive to show his salary pay slip. Wamakko and his entire family and hangers-on live on the generosity of APC stakeholders and the national leadership.

I challenge Wamakko to say that he does not collect billions of Naira in the name of the party. Let him for once be honest enough to declare the funds he has been receiving on behalf of the party. The paltry disbursements from the huge money he receives as donations show his unseriousness for the party to win any election

Wamakko is rather more interested in the funds he receives from Abuja, Lagos and other places than winning elections. In fact, he actually fields Ahmed Aliyu just to have access to these funds – shebe he has the funds, let him lose the election na. He is only using Ahmed Aliyu as a pawn on his chessboard, while amassing and cornering the resources for himself.

The main reason he is smoking every major stakeholders, who can contribute in winning the election out of the party, is actually because he is not interested or committed to winning the election, but rather using it as a means to mobilise and corner campaign funds for his personal use only.

In politics, you don’t claim heroism all the times.

2023 Elections: APC NorthWest Leaders Map Out Strategies, Set Up Committee

By Lola Seriki-Idahosa --Ahead of 2023 general election, The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) North West, Salihu Mohammed Lukman has said he is optimistic that the North-West zone will give his party victory in 2023.

Speaking at the end of the APC Publicity committee Zonal meeting held at the party’s Zonal secretariat in Kaduna on Wednesday said the meeting was attended by stakeholders from the zone comprising Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kano, Zamfara, Jigawa and Kaduna.

According to him, “Since after our convention, we have not met to discuss the happenings in our zone.

“We have set up six field operations committees which will be meeting in the next couple of days in order to discuss the progress attained in the zone ahead of the general elections.

“Today’s meeting is the publicity field operations committee. We have met and discussed extensively on how to move the party forward.

“We will work hand in hand with all state chapters in the zone as part of efforts in creating awareness and sensitizing the members in the zone.

According to him, “this is important in view of the fact that Northwest is the backbone of APC. Once we deliver the zone, we are sure of victory because the zone is the heartbeat of Politics in the country.”

He however noted that going by the turn of events and with hard work, the zone will give the party (APC) the deserved victory in 2023.

Explaining further, the APC chieftain also remarked that the Zonal party had resolved to partner with the media in order to strengthen its activities.

“We will work with the media because of your important role. No organization will do it alone with the media. This interactive session is the standpoint of this collaboration.”

PoliticsCurbing Human Trafficking Through Intelligence Gathering In Nigeria by lolanews(op): 8:49pm On Jun 28, 2022
Curbing Human Trafficking Through Intelligence Gathering In Nigeria BY VICTOR BUORO

Globally acknowledged as a high-profit but low-risk criminal activity, human trafficking has unfortunately gained attention as the modern-day form of slavery that is expanding in scale with damaging repercussions on humanity and nations' economic lives.

And going by the definition that; “Human Trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of people through force, fraud or deception, with the aim of exploiting them for profit", it is currently ranked among the fastest growing criminal activities across the globe, comparable to the smuggling of firearms that is considered the second most organized criminal network worldwide.

In recent times, with different interpretations by national governments and experts in criminology, human trafficking has generated a great deal of concerns among stakeholders because of its adverse impact on social lives and the human race.

The threat is becoming more alarming in Nigeria with sordid tales by returnees from Libya and Italy among other foreign countries. Unfortunately, men, women and children of all ages and from all backgrounds have become victims of this crime, which occurs in every region of the world.

And being a transnational crime that is fast ruining the country’s image within the African continent and beyond, this criminal activity has continued to degrade and dehumanise the victims; fuel public sector corruption and irregular migration; aid the spread of COVID-19, HIV/AIDS, and other communicable diseases while also promoting money laundering and other financial crimes that clearly distort the nation’s economy.

Regrettably, parents and guardians have become too busy and sometimes so uncaring to effectively monitor the activities of their children and wards or even notice the glaring antics and pranks that are obviously risk-infested and portend danger to themselves and the immediate family.

A situation where children, teenagers, youths and even adults, embark on irrelevant expeditions, secret trips and visits without, but sometimes with, the knowledge of their parents or other family members have been identified as one of the major risk factors that have made many vulnerable while exposing them and their loved ones to avoidable hurt.

Painfully, in their overzealousness, many have deliberately ignored the security tips and public advisory regularly issued by the Department of State Services (DSS) and other law enforcement agencies that urge caution by members of the public, specifically applicants to always guard against falling prey to so-called juicy jobs’ adverts that do not contain comprehensive information on location, specifications and schedules; shun the temptation of subscribing to vague visas and overseas travel promotions that could be the handiwork of human traffickers and scammers or their agents.

Importantly too, verifying information before acting on any calls about untoward incidents involving family members, colleagues, relatives or friends cannot be overstressed; just as the need to careful visiting new friends or meeting colleagues at unfamiliar or unspecified locations; and restraint in dishing out and advertising vital personal information on social media platforms.

Similarly, stories are abound where some individuals have inadvertently exposed themselves to danger by standing in as guarantors and sureties for people who may have changed over time, thereby becoming agents that aid and abet the criminal activities of society’s bad eggs.

Given the sophistication, secrecy and ‘value chain’ in organised crime which human trafficking has evidently become, synergy among security and law enforcement agencies as well as partnership with the public cannot be overemphasized. However, making the matter a bit more complicated is the fact that some unscrupulous elements within the security agencies and even greedy parents and relations are supportive and in cohort with those perpetuating this criminal activity across the country.

With the way things are going globally, adopting Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to combat human trafficking should also be the way to go by the Nigerian authorities. Though no technology can be termed perfect or full proof, there is no denying the fact that with conscious efforts, any technology, would over time, evolve with improvement to make it more relevant and responsive in tackling existing as well as emerging challenges associated with this modern day 'slave trade' and other related crimes.

Pointedly, security agencies like the DSS have not relented in their collaboration with relevant government establishments to give human trafficking syndicates tough times running their criminal activities. In January this year, the Service was on hand assisting NAPTIP to rescue a Burundian woman and her three children from traffickers in Umunoha village, Mbaitoli Council of Imo State where they were being held captive and exploited.

The victims were rescued during a sting operation carried out on their holding mud house by the combined team of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Department of State Services (DSS). Thanks to a tipoff by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), the four foreigners duly regained their freedom from where they were cramped under inhuman conditions.

Without making much fuss about it in the public domain, the Service has continued to play active part in bursting child trafficking syndicates across the country with its various State Commands recording huge success in stemming the tide of their criminal activities.

Recalled an incident on July 6, 2015 where four suspects were arrested and the victims, comprising 12 males and 24 females, rescued from homes in Yenagoa and Kaiama in Bayelsa, Port Harcourt, and Enugu-Agidi in Anambra, having been forcefully turned into house helps.

As indicated in their public advisory, most disturbing is the fact that the suspected syndicates sometimes operate under the guise of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that usually approach parents and convinced them to release their wards under the pretext of assisting the children to acquire good education only for such kids to end up as house helps and sometimes worst as sex slaves.

Forward looking, it is important to support the position canvassed by many well-meaning individuals and groups that human trafficking offenders and perpetrators should serve sentences commensurable with the magnitude of offences committed to send the appropriate message as a major deterrent to culprits.

Concerns have also arisen that a situation where some offenders often escape justice with light sentencing has led to cases of repeat offenders now posing a grave danger to the dimension of human trafficking in the Country.

Therefore, continuous citizens' sensitization and awareness creation on how to curb the menace are very crucial. This is against the backdrop that the inherent fear of reprisals cannot be ignored since many victims and their families are afraid to come forward and incident cases, amid the limited enforcement resources and shifting legislation coherent enough to address this thriving crime.

Hammering on the need for continuous enlightenment and sensitisation in the local communities nationwide, one DSS official said; “There is need therefore for members of the public to be sensitized on the need to be circumspect in the way they give out children or take in children from such unscrupulous modern day slave traders.”

Certainly, these routes are the way to go in effectively addressing operational and other existing challenges in the fight against human trafficking.

On the whole, relevant government establishments like NAPTIP, security and law enforcement agencies, the judiciary and Intelligence Community, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Faith Based Organisations (FBOs) and traditional institutions as well as international bodies must embrace and deploy robust partnership as a strategy to check and eventually suppress the crime of human trafficking in the country.

With subdued optimism, this collaboration should help calm the frayed nerves and broken spirit of most victims, always left in a pitiable traumatic state to nurse wounds inflicted on them by heartless and exploitative traffickers, who often are erroneously or unintentionally pampered with light sentencing by the courts.

So the ball is in the court of judicial officers to compliment the works of security and related agencies by always considering the victims' plight and exploitation in deciding cases of human trafficking rather than over relying on the salient technicalities that often deny them adequate justice.

How Enugu Gas Fire went off miraculously by Caritas Varsity

https://tracerepoters.com --Authorities of Caritas University in Amorji-Nike, Enugu State yesterday expressed delight over what is now referred to as a miraculous outage of the gas fire incidence that occurred within its premises between May 22 and June 14 this year.

The management of the university specifically expressed appreciation to God for his divine intervention in seeing off the rampaging fire
that ranged for 21 days.

The fire incident defied all conventional and technical measures by government and non-state fire services for the period but went off on its own on the 14th of this month. The efforts were fully funded by the university.

The incident was caused by the activities of some contractors who were drilling a water borehole on the university premises.

Surprisingly, there was no single fatality throughout the period the fire raged.

About 24 companies and government agencies got involved in the curtailing of the fire. They could not stop the fire.

Addressing a news conference, the university management led by its Pro-Chancellor, Dr Martin Anagbaoso, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Michael Uchenna Orji said they were filled with joy that the fire eventually went off on its own.

“The light went off itself miraculously. On our own we know it’s Jesus that did the miracle and and made it possible for the light to go off,” Orji said yesterday while conducting journalists round the site of the fire incidence.

The deputy vice chancellor appreciated the federal and state governments and other stakeholders for their prompt response to curtailing the fire.

He told reporters that the university will go on with the drilling of the water borehole in the school, but would employ more technical measures in doing so. “We still have the intention of going on with water exploration. In terms of getting water, we will go on but we will be guided technically,” Prof Orji stated.

He said the school incurred loses, including spending much money trying to curtail the fire. Asked how much was spent as part of efforts to get solution to the situation, Orji simply said “it’s huge amount of money,” saying that it cannot be immediately quantified.

Meanwhile, Oweri zonal coordinator of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Engr Enorense Amadasu has disclose that his commission is currently investigating the actual and remote cause of the gas fire and emission incident.

Engr Amadasu said the NURPC has deployed a manager to be in charge of the area with a mandate to ensure the well is properly secured. “We recognised that we needed to quickly put off the fire because of the challenges inherent in the incidence,” Amdasu said while providing incite into the commission’s effort to put out the fire.

Government had said it would carry out specific detailed study on the environment. Engr Amadasu said NURPC will do various investigative studies in the area. He failed to say when the report of the proposed study would be completed. The zonal coordinator also ruled out the possibility of the suspected gas substance coming out from existential pipeline in the area. He said government would do general survey on gas deposit in the region.

Dr Anagboso who was there when the fire and gas emissions went off said there was no issue of death in the incident as was reported by some an online newspaper. He said the university quickly created an over zone round the fire point to ensure that the fire didn’t extend to other facilities of the university.

Managing director of Welltest Solutions Ltd, a technically advanced software products developer for the analysis of pressure transient tests in oil and gas wells said the place has been safely sealed and secured for human habitation.

Security, Safety And Open Display Of Affluence

BY VICTOR BUORO

These are not encouraging times for Nigeria, a country respected and honoured as giant of Africa. Taking a quote from the Bible in Ephesians 5: 16 which states; "But as wise: redeeming the time, because the days are evil", it certainly did have Nigerians in mind at a time like this when insecurity is among the biggest challenges facing Africa's largest economy.

No matter how one looks at it, the wisdom in the scriptural injunction clearly stirs us in the face today as global citizens. But regrettably, many are still refusing to draw their ears and learn lessons in terms of being security conscious and alert at all times.

Amid heightening insecurity in the country, it is worrisome that many citizens have disappointingly refused to heed public advisories by some agencies of government and come to terms with the reality that the 'times are truly evil', therefore, things can no longer remain 'business as usual' on all fronts.

Consequently, the saying that 'security is everybody's business and responsibility' must certainly assume a serious dimension as a call to prayers by religious leaders and adherents or a hit song by popular musicians.

Interestingly, there have been quite an unending streams of write-ups on security being everybody's business with some highlighting the fact that it has somewhat become "a cliché that reverberates in every forum, discussion, advertisement, conference, and organization."

Sadly, the reality as acknowledged in most circles, is that very little has been done to "dispel the myths and obscurity surrounding information security - its use, applications, and its study."

Further making matters worse as observed by security agencies is some individuals' unrestrained lifestyles and lack of public decorum. Not being deliberate about developing security consciousness, many are inadvertently exposing and putting themselves as well as family members and friends in harm's way as victims of criminal elements and hostile agents of the society.

Not hidden is the fact that security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services (DSS), have not relented in their mandate delivery concerning public safety and security. Here, public advisories have repeatedly been issued cautioning Nigerians on the dangers of outrageous open display of affluence in the midst of abject poverty in the land.

There are many instances that aside from such show of affluence attracting the attention of criminal elements directly to those personalities involved, their close relatives and friends have unfortunately been caught in the crossfire of abduction/kidnapping, robbery, arson, and senseless killings.

Added to the above are negative habitual routines that include late nights, constant driving on a particular route and visits to a special spot. Also, not minding their exposure to danger and the risk involved, it is commonplace observing people making prolonged phone calls along the roads at night or while walking on lonely and deserted areas; driving or crossing major roads with eyes fixed on their handsets; and having earphones romancing their eardrums oblivious of the environment and the persons around them.

At a recent symposium organized by the Kwara State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), the DSS, in a presentation titled; "Security Tips For Health Practitioners In Kwara", specifically cautioned Nigerians on the huge security risk and dangers of public display of affluence in the midst of biting poverty.

Speaking through its Deputy Director, Security Enforcement in Kwara Command, Mr Paul Oduh, the Service hinted that such open and obscene display of affluence counts as one of the major factors that usually attracts the attention of criminal elements, even as he urged people to embrace moderate lifestyles to avoid falling prey to society's bad eggs.

Admittedly, Oduh captured the current reality saying; "There is need to accept that threats existing and people are targets of these threats. This is why people should put in place measures to safeguard and protect themselves from such threats."

Again, one readily agrees with the submission by the nation's secret Police that security can never be 100 percent everywhere in the world and people should therefore strive at being properly knowledgeable on areas and the possible things they can do to protect themselves and stay safe in a security-challenged environment like ours.

Therefore, it has to be clearly stated and driven home that no single individual or organization is responsible for information on security and safety of society. It is indeed the responsibility of the whole to ensure robust partnership that cut across religious, ethnic, cultural, socio-economic and security boundaries in the overall interest of society.

As aptly conveyed and put across in some of its public advisories, the DSS sees security as a way of thinking and not a problem to be solved. So, to be secured and safe, everyone or groups need to have a security mindset, even as security thinking and planning should always precede every action.

Despite acknowledging that the current debilitating economic situation and hardship have put a lot of pressure on many individuals and families, thereby making it almost difficult to manage day-to-day life challenges, we cannot pretend about insecurity being a matter of most urgent and serious concern given that only the living can enjoy the fruits of his or her labour.

Importantly, as patriotic citizens we must make up our minds and be ready to cooperate and assist the security agencies, particularly the DSS and the Nigeria Police to check and reduce crime while ultimately building a nation in which all citizens and residents are "free to pursue their legitimate aspirations/businesses" without let or hindrances.

The public advisory remains that "people should be alert on happenings around them, especially strange individuals loitering around an area" as these could easily be criminal elements or their agents surveying the environment for a planned attack when unexpected.

In the world of security today, a little humanity can go a long way to help and the truth remains that everyone within the neighborhood should take some responsibility in ensuring each others' safety and security.

Similarly, synergy between the public and security agencies will directly impact the result in the spirit of unity and working together for the good and benefit of all citizens.

Though it is quite tough managing one's daily affairs given the current economic situation in the country, keeping in mind that 'security is everybody's business' certainly remains the safest and surest way to go.

There is therefore no gain saying the fact that security should be the concern of all.

Borno PDP Guber. Candidate: Looming certificate scandal grips data boys

... UGC allegedly into illegal oil refining, bunkering

Recently, we have witnessed inconsistencies about the status of the Borno PDP gubernatorial candidate’s degree certificate.

While some of the PDP data boys claimed UGC to have graduated from the Department of Computer uter Science and group argued that he graduated from the Department of Mathematics.

It is embarrassing, though PDP can be simply described as a caricature, for a political party to present someone that is not even certain about his certificate or rather the course of study as a governorship candidate.

Initially, when they presented the biography of the so-called gubernatorial candidate, otherwise called UGC. It shows that their candidate was a graduate of Computer Science at the University of Maiduguri.

However, when concerns were raised, the Computer Science Department was established at the UNIMAID in 2017 and has only graduated one set at the moment, which UGC, according to his biography presented by the data boys, cannot have been among. They quickly change to Mathematics and not Computer Science anymore.

In addition, the Borno PDP Publicity Secretary’s release today put aspersions on UGC as to whether he has attended any pre-University education.

Shine your eyes, they come to defraud the good people of Borno, but the market no good from the beginning. Let me borrow words from Amos Bwala Yakubu “If it will take Mohammed Ali Jajari three months to tell us his simple profile, how many years will it take him to fix one LGA?
Ikon Allah”. Worst still, the profile was marred by inconsistencies, suspicion and alleged forgery.

... UGC allegedly into illegal oil refining, bunkering

Meanwhile, in defence of UGC, Borno State PDP Publicity Secretary stated that their candidate was into oil and gas and has worked with Humble Oil and Majesty Energy.

Both companies are, however, suspicious, according to the internet check. Majesty Energy was said to be incorporated in Apapa in 2007 with unknown status and activities of the company unspecified. Similarly, Humble Oil, which was registered in 2003, is also has no known status, and its activities remain undefined.

The screenshot of both internet checks is attached to this post.

Coincidentally, in testimony on Facebook by one Anas Gajiram, who calmed to be his childhood friend, UGC was suspected of having been engaged in illegal oil refining and bunkering at some point in Port Harcourt.

Trace Reporters --The Kano Youth Mandate, has drummed support for the Mohammed Abacha’s Kano State governorship bid.

The leader of the group, Comrade Ibrahim Idris Garko, declared the group’s support after a solidarity meeting in Kano on Thursday.

Garko said the support of members of the group drawn from various women and youth development associations in Kano State, stemmed from the previous achievements of the aspirant.

He said Mohammed Abacha, the son to the late Head of State General Sani Abacha had always supported women and youths to be self-reliant and employers of labour through his various empowerment programmes.

“We believe that if Mohammed Abacha succeeded in his bid, women and youths, aged and all residents of Kano State will certainly benefit more from his various skills and talents development initiative.

“He is a bridge builder, a noble son of Kano State. His philanthropically attributes span across the length and breadth of the State. With and without elective position or political appointment, Abacha has been helping people, which we trust this gesture will be extended when given opportunity to serve.

“I therefore, urge youth, men, women, religious and traditional associations across the state, to come forth and rally round him for a successful governorship contest.

“Therefore, based on his antecedent as wealth creator, job provider, great mobilizer, simplistic and humane lifestyle, youths’ empowerment and respect for elders, we have endorsed Mohammed Abacha as our Governorship candidate on the platform of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the forthcoming governorship elections in the Kano State.

Garko said the Assembly is confident that the party’s ticket is in good hand, adding that Mohammed Abacha will not only win election for us, but will
popularize our party and make it an acceptable brand in the entire Northwest geopolitical zone.

IPOB's Deadly Shunting And Discordant Tunes By Security Agencies
BY VICTOR BUORO

Looking away from the established culture of loyalty to the state, exploits in public mandate delivery, and professionalism in service due to today's mounting security challenges in the country, someone made a seemingly funny but 'unkind joke' about the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

This is coming amid the Police 'mishandling' of the recent bomb blast in Kano State which the Force rather preferred to cloak as a 'gas explosion' until the timely intervention of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Obviously wanting to make light of the Kano tragedy, the dear friend teased that "if making wild assumptions were to be an Olympic sport, police personnel in Nigeria would have no competition easily claiming accolades and mounting the podium as gold medalists".

Funny as it may sound, this is indeed a sad commentary on the current pattern of ineptitude and official Luke warmness that dot the Force's operations and keep it on a collision course with public confidence befitting the nature of their services and sacrifices to the motherland.

This development makes one seriously concerned about the confusion that pervades existing relationships among the nation's security agencies where intelligence has been sacrificed on the altar of pride, ego, self-adulation, and other extraneous factors offensive to rational, and logical processes that would have built a robust synergy to address the debilitating insecurity across the country.

Most worrisome is the reality that most security advisory and alerts issued by the DSS are either treated off-handedly or ignored only for the State to suffer the consequences of humongous losses most of the time due to actions and inactions of relevant security agencies and bodies.

It still beats one's imagination that the Police hurriedly and without due diligence classified the Kano incident as a 'bomb blast' even to the point of offering some official coloration the State Commissioner of Police, Samaila Dikko, said in a radio and television broadcast that the gas exploded at a welding point near a primary school on Aba Road in Sabon Gari, Kano.

Quite embarrassingly, the narrative suddenly changed after the nation's secret Police, the DSS stepped up its game as usual to arrest some members of the deadly Boko Haram sect over the unfortunate incident.

Though this piece is not intent on focusing on the Police's derailing investigation machinery that is becoming so prevalent, it is imperative to take a cursory look at the prevalent discordant tunes within the security apparatuses that keep many guessing what could have happened to infect the age-long synergies; deft communication strategies; and collaborative efforts that readily propel gallantry and victories by security agencies against both internal and external aggressions.

It is against the backdrop of these worrying events and unfortunate treating with levity credible intelligence from the DSS that current killings of innocent citizens in the South-East geo-political zone present a huge burden on all stakeholders, including the government at all levels, political, religious, and community leaders across the board.

Unfortunately, the evil that many well-meaning stakeholders feared has gradually taken root in an alarming manner within the region because some pro-Biafran agitators and their sympathisers failed to heed the warning signals that were clearly bold and conspicuous for all eyes to see.

Despite caution from different quarters, particularly the security agencies, that things were going awry based on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)'s aggressive tendencies and inhumane enterprise against innocent citizens, the senseless agitation was allowed to fester.

Worst still, this misstep created the challenge of effectively coordinating and managing the splinter groups that daily sprung up in pursuit of individuals and groups' selfish and weird agenda in the name of Biafran activism.

That Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his minions are now hard-pressed engaging in supremacy battles against these splinter groups hoisting the so-called Biafran agitation is not in doubt. No doubt, the skewed narratives, amplified on 'Radio Biafra' and 'Voice of Biafra' have caught fire among the huge illiterate and semi-illiterate support base of IPOB, its paramilitary arm, Eastern Security Network and the so-called 'Fallen Angels', its M-Branch, and MASSOB among others. These untoward development have done so much harm in heightening insecurity in the South-East region.

The turbulence engulfing the rank and file of IPOB is quite glaring, especially against the backdrop of repeated denials by the organization that it has no hands in the ongoing needless killings and deadly attacks on the security institutions and public facilities in the state.

Expectedly, IPOB's hitherto effective stay-at-home protest tool has become entrapped in its internal leadership crisis and the result is the audacious rebellion in terms of counter directives with some strange and bloodthirsty characters hijacking the activities and structural command in the purported Biafran struggle.

Therefore, it was not surprising that the stage was set for chaos now reigning unabated in every nook and cranny of the South-East zone with killings, maiming, torching of houses, vehicles, and shops; as well as vandalising goods and abuses of all kinds have without restraint becoming a daily occurrence.

With Anambra, Imo, and Ebonyi States mostly hit as theatres of these absurdities, things are no longer at ease in the South-East as the region continues to reel from ceaseless attacks on innocent citizens, police stations, security personnel, public facilities, and Correctional Centres where hardened criminals are set free, among others.

In trying to find the leeway out of this debilitating situation, it is difficult to gloss over the views expressed by former Assistant Director of DSS, Mr Dennis Amachree on national television that most times State governments and the relevant authorities are guilty of ignoring or misusing credible intelligence placed at their disposal by the DSS.

That the system can deliberately ignore and downplay intelligence and security advisory is appalling and unfortunately, it is the innocent citizens who are paying the price as manifested in the new level of fearless criminality that currently thrives in the zone.

There is no denying the fact a well-defined partnership among security agencies going forward will make Nigeria safer and more secure for Nigerians. The relevant authorities cannot continue to remain aloof in the face of worsening insecurity, clearly ignoring credible intelligence and refusing to engage in proper communication processes; information exchanges; experience sharing; and well-coordinated efforts for the greatest good of all Nigerians.

For the nation's security agencies, rejigging existing collaboration and channels of communication would no doubt recalibrate and boost public confidence in their daily operations. Without mincing words, robust inter-departmental and inter-agency engagement and selfless interaction should be the way to go at all times.
In this digital age of Information Communication Technology (ICT), the world is now a global village and some of our security agencies cannot and must not continue with their clearly lethargic, archaic, silent, and harmful battle for superiority that leaves Nigerians and Nigeria as the greatest losers.
