Senator-elect, Dino Melaye, has said that President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration is the most corrupt in Nigeria’s history.

Melaye, a former House of Representatives member, also called Jonathan a ‘promoter of corruption.’

The Senator-elect made the comments during an interview with Premium Times.

“Jonathan is the promoter of corruption. I am telling you that the Government of Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan is the most corrupt in Nigerian history but (who) we have as president-elect of this country today (Muhammadu Buhari); the man I see as the nemesis of corruption,” Melaye said.

“Change! I am an advocate of anti-corruption and for me if I enter office, I am going to do it more this time around. More importantly, now that we have a government that is going to have zero tolerance for corruption, we must as legislators carry out our functions from any form of sacrifice,” he added.

“Either at the national assembly, we will be drastically checked. Legislators need to check if they are on the side of the people or side of their pockets. They must be content because you have to live a life of sacrifice,” Melaye said.

“If we supervise the MDAs, N3billion will not be budgeted for the travels of Mr. President in a year. Where is the president going? Is he the supervisor of the world?” the Senator-elect asked.

Jonathan will hand over to President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, May 29, 2015.

Not exactly sure which section to post this...Mod, you can move where applicable.

For ladies that love taking selfies at every possible situation e.g. in the toilet, while crossing roads, when pastor is preaching in church, you might need to start looking very well and hard before taking that selfie. Read below what happened to this unfortunate chic:

A teenager burst into flames when she accidentally touched an electrical field while trying to take the ‘ultimate selfie’ on top of a train.

Anna Ursu, 18, went to the train station in the northern Romanian town of Iasi in the hope of taking a ‘special’ selfie to post on Facebook.

But she accidentally touched the electrical field of a live wire with her leg while lying on top of the train, sending 27,000 volts through her body and causing her to burst into flames while her friend was sent flying through the air.

A passer-by attempted to save Anna and extinguish her flaming clothes, but the 18-year-old died in hospital with more than 50 percent burns. Her friend, 17, is recovering in hospital.
The passer-by who attempted to save Anna said he knew the dangers and called for the girls to get down when he saw them on top of the train.

They failed to hear him, however, and moments later, he heard a bang – and Anna burst into flames.

A hospital spokesman was reported to have said that coming into contact with an electrical field can be just as dangerous as touching a live wire.

TopGee:
There was a coup where they said Igbo officers killed leaders of other Regions, but still Igbo officers like Aguiyi Ironsi and Ojukwu stopped the coup plotters from killing more Northern officers and nobody commended these men. The Igbo officers only targeted some military officers who controlled strategic positions and civilian leaders. They never targeted children, women, civil servants, businessmen and women, the masses and market women. The Igbo officers had a pure coup, though bloody. It was only few officers that got involved but most Igbo officers did not support the coup. If they had, the North would have been wiped out.

However, when the North had their own coup, they started killing children, women, civil servants, students, young men and women, Igbo officers including soldiers and officers who had no control of any strategic positions. The Northern officers had a bloody coup too but they went ahead to commit genocide after they grabbed power. The Northern officers and soldiers joined those officers to kill Igbos. The intentions of the officers from the two regions are clear.

Gowon as the Head of States didn't stop the killings like the way Ojukwu and Ironsi did. So, Nigerians wanted Ojukwu to fold his hands and watch as the carnage went on weeks and months without stopping? They accused Ojukwu of starting a war even when Ojukwu did not participate in the first coup. It is only a coward that will fold his hands and watch his people being slaughtered without throwing a stone if you have one.

A former military head of state, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, says the leader of the defunct Biafra, the late Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, underestimated him by thinking that he (Gowon) would never go to war.

Gowon, who led Nigerian forces to defeat Ojukwu’s army during the Nigerian civil war from 1967-1970, said this at the Diamond Jubilee Lecture of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria in Lagos on Thursday.

The former head of state said he was known to be a ‘Born Again’ Christian and Ojukwu, who was the then premier of the Eastern Region, thought his region could secede from Nigeria without consequences because he thought Gowon would not want to go to war.

He said, “During the crisis, my colleague and brother, Emeka Ojukwu, said, ‘We know Gen. Gowon, he is a Christian and he would not like to fight. Do you know the first thing he puts in his suitcase? His Bible; and that will make him not to engage in a fight’. I think unfortunately, he was proved wrong.

“As a Christian soldier, it was my duty to keep my country together.”

Gowon said he was happy that the new generation of Nigerian leaders were also putting the unity of Nigeria above their political ambitions.

He said despite the predictions that Nigeria would break up in 2015, the elections went on peacefully.

He also commended President Goodluck Jonathan and the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, for the conduct and outcome of the election.

Gowon commended the church, particularly Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, for its role in nation building.

He said, “During the civil war from 1967-1970, it was the prayers of the people of God and the military that helped to keep the country together. It was God that helped to stem the tide of coups so that we could enjoy democracy today.

“Even when many predicted the break-up of Nigeria by 2015, the effective prayers of the people intervened and the elections were peaceful. As an observer, I was impressed by the turnout and camaraderie of all Nigerians.

“I said if the elections could be this peaceful, the end would be glorious. And didn’t it become glorious? It did by the act of good leadership in both parties and the acceptance of the outcome of the election even though it went against one of them.”

Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor, Mcpherson University, Ogun State, Prof. Adeniyi Agunbiade, said the church must be active in nation building.

He, therefore, urged all Christians to show the world the way.

“The church is more than just buildings and edifices; it is the lifeline of any society. It is a unique solution that should inculcate change. The church plays a very significant role in the society. It is meant to be the salt and light in the society, being the only organisation in the world with such high morality level,” he said.

CrimeWhy We Killed Policemen During Lekki Robbery - Suspect by lolaxavier(op): 7:19am On May 14, 2015
Four suspected members of a robbery gang that unleashed terror on the Lekki area of Lagos on Thursday, March 12, have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.

Our correspondent learnt that the suspected robbers ─ Duke Odogbo, 38, said to be the gang leader; Lawrence Kingsley, 31; Ebi Tosan, 20; and 30-year-old Ekelemo Kuete ─ were arrested in Delta, Ogun, Ondo and Lagos states.

PUNCH Metro had reported on Friday, March 13, that three policemen and a fish seller were killed by the gang which stormed the First City Monument Bank Limited on Admiralty Way in the Lekki area.

It was also reported that the robbers, numbering about 13, arrived at the bank, wielding AK-47 rifles and shooting sporadically for 30 minutes, during which the 14-year-old fish seller, Sarah Ibikunle, and three policemen were killed.

Our correspondent gathered that after the attack, the Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, met with all commanders of the command’s combat units and assigned the task of fishing out the gang members to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, led by SP Abba Kyari.

It was learnt that six decoy teams of SARS were deployed to arrest the suspects from Lagos and the other three states.

Speaking on Wednesday, Odogbo, from Warri, Delta State, said they killed the policemen because the gang was prepared to deal with every resistance.

He added that they came with seven AK-47 rifles and carted away over N15m in the operation.

He said, “I am an Ijaw man living in Delta State. I was invited to Lagos to take part in the operation. I am not the gang leader, but only an expert. We were initially at a hideout around the Langbasa River till about 4pm.

“When it was time to move, we entered into two speedboats. I wore a military uniform and we entered into Lekki from the riverside. When we got to the bank, I was the first person to enter.

“We were 11 in number, and we had seven guns. In the banking hall, I asked for the bank manager, but they said they could not find him. We found some little cash ─ about N15m─ in a sack.

“While the operation was going on, others were outside, shooting to secure the area. It was on our way back that I found two rifles with them. They told me they collected them from the policemen they killed.

“What happened was that the policemen were in a van, and were passing by. They thought they came for us and we could not take chances.

“So, they shot them and took their guns. On our way out, we tried to open the Automated Teller Machines, but when they did not open on time, we took the machines with us.

“I was arrested in Warri. I got N500,000 for my part in the operation.”

Also, Ekelemo, who reportedly drove the speedboat, said they took off from the Majidun area. He, however, denied that he was one of those that shot the policemen.

He said, “I was the driver of the gang. I drove the speedboat. I am also an Ijaw man. I stay around the Arepo area of Ogun State. It was my brothers who called me to participate in the robbery. We call one of the gang leaders, O.C. We had taken off on that Thursday from the Majidun area.”

Our correspondent gathered that the police recovered a Honda Accord, 2008 model, bought with the proceeds from the robbery. Two smart phones, stolen from the bank workers during the operation, were also recovered from the gang, as well as 130 rounds of ammunition.

The police identified the three deceased officers as Inspector Bethel Agbobu, Sergeant Odehohwo George, and Corporal Imoisiu Ikechukwu.

The CP said efforts were on to arrest the remaining members of the gang, adding that residents of the state should trust the police to guarantee safety of lives and property.

He said, “The incident was a serious security breach in the Lekki area. It captured the attention of all because five lives, including three of our officers, were lost. I made a promise that we were going to get these hoodlums, and we have done that.

“Lagos is not a place where criminals can hide; we are going to continue to ensure safety of lives and property.

“Meanwhile, efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang.”

CrimeTeenager Kills Friend During Struggle For Seat by lolaxavier(op): 7:01am On May 14, 2015
A 19-year-old boy, Toluchukwu Anosike, has killed his friend, Nonso Monyasa, 15, during a struggle for a seat.

The incident happened on Sunday at the Abule Egba area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Toluchukwu and Monyasa were both sales apprentices on Layi Padeola Street, and had been friends for two years when the suspect came to Lagos.

They were said to be fond of each other and usually ate and played together.

However, on the fateful day, the deceased was said to have asked for the seat of the suspect, and after playfully punching his lap, the latter took offence.

The disagreement degenerated to an argument. The Enugu State indigene reportedly punched the 15-year-old in the belly.

Less than an hour later, the victim, an indigene of Imo State, reportedly gave up the ghost.

Toluchukwu, who was immediately arrested, said he only punched his friend once, adding that it was not the first time they would be having such “playful fights.”

The suspect, while begging for forgiveness, said he never knew his friend would die.

He said, “I have always lived in the village. My father died when I was in primary five.

“When I finished my secondary school in the village in 2013, my brother, Anayo, brought me to Lagos so I could learn a trade.

“I met Nonso (Monyasa) here when I started work as a sales apprentice and we became good friends. But on Sunday, Ejike, who was Nonso’s boss, came to pick a seat in my shop and asked Nonso to take my seat for himself.”

He said the deceased came and punched his lap, asking him (Toluchukwu) to release his seat to him (Monyasa).

Toluchukwu said he resisted and when he checked his phone in his trousers pocket, it was switched off.

“I told him my phone had developed a fault because of the punch he gave me, but he walked away.

“I went back to my seat and told him the next time he did that, I would beat him up. He said I could not beat him.

“He came and hit me with blows, and I gave him a punch in the stomach. He held his belly and went inside their shop,” he added.

Our correspondent learnt that the victim’s boss, Ejike, took him home when his condition worsened.

It was learnt that about 30 minutes later, the victim was driven back to the shop, where the suspect was also picked up en route to the hospital.

Monyasa was confirmed dead at the hospital.

The police were subsequently alerted and the teenager was arrested.

“We were playing that day. I did not have any intention of killing him,” Toluchukwu said.

The victim’s cousin, Ifeanyi Nwokemodo, told PUNCH Metro that the doctor said Monyasa died from internal bleeding.

He said his family had been informed in the village and they were not willing to pursue a case against Toluchukwu.

He said, “When we rushed him to the hospital, the doctor said he suffered internal bleeding, which killed him.

“The boy’s family have been informed in the village and they told me to withdraw the case because they are not interested in pursuing court matters.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, said the police was aware of the incident. He added that the case had been transferred to the the Criminal Investigation Department.

The lingering fuel scarcity »currently biting across the nation has claimed it's first casualty as a commercial bus driver who had stayed in the sun for hours while queuing to get petrol at a filling station suddenly slumped and died.

The sad incident happened at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation »(NNPC) mega filling station along Iwo Road in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver and others had gone to the station very early in anticipation of getting fuel from there with the belief that it will be easier and cheaper at the station since they should get their supplies directly from the NNPC.

But his hopes and that of many others were dashed when he stayed throughout the day and at about 6.30 pm, when it was his turn to be served, the deceased got down from his vehicle to open the tank to be filled but suddenly, he slumped and died before help could get to him.

The incident was said to have thrown the place to chaos and confusion as people hurriedly left with their vehicles.

A police patrol team from the Kajorepo Police Division which arrived at the scene took the corpse away.

PoliticsPDP Will Be Buried If I Resign - Mu'azu by lolaxavier(op): 6:29am On May 11, 2015
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, and the party’s National Working Committee on Sunday dared members threatening to factionalise the party.

Muazu, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Tony Amadi, in an interview with The PUNCH, said that he would not resign despite the threat of some members to form a faction of the party.

The national chairman said that the PDP would be buried if he succumbed to calls that he should resign.

Sunday PUNCH had reported that there were moves by some aggrieved members to form a faction of the party.

But Mu’azu and the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, said those making the threat should go ahead and carry it out.

But in a swift reaction, the Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, said, “The PDP cannot break under any circumstance. Secondly, Mu’azu as chairman or not, cannot and will not break the PDP. Mu’azu is not a force enough to break PDP.”

Fayose said that Mu’azu did not have the clout to break the PDP, adding that if he (Mu’azu) ceased to be the chairman, the party would not die.

“How can a man who cannot win his ward, local government and state say the PDP will be buried if he resigns?” he asked.

The Ekiti State governor added that even if he (Fayose) left the PDP, the party would continue to exist.

He insisted that Mu’azu could not restructure the PDP, which he said needed restructuring.

But Mu’azu insisted that he would not resign.

Reacting to the threat by some members to form a PDP faction should he remain in office, Mu’azu said, “Let them go and form their parallel party and let us see where they are going to get their votes from.

“The only reason Mu’azu doesn’t want to resign is because if he does, those who want the PDP buried will succeed.”

The national chairman said he was not the problem of the PDP, adding that what should be uppermost in the minds of genuine party leaders should be how to rebuild it.

He said that he had remained committed to the cause of the PDP, whose member he had been since its formation in 1999.

He lashed out at Fayose and other chieftains of the party calling for his resignation.

Mu’azu asked, “Why are these people trying to create problems for themselves and the outgoing President? The President has said let us sheathe our swords; that is why we have not said anything for the past one week and we obeyed the President. He is our leader; why are they doing this?”

He wondered why some individuals were bent on heating up the polity with their conduct and utterances.

“I thought that we have finished elections, we have got a President-elect and we are going to hand over to the President-elect. Why are they taking us back? Please, let them cool down, Mu’azu is not the problem.”

Also, Metuh described the call for the sacking of the National Working Committee members of the party as a mere distraction.

He said in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents on Sunday that those calling for the dissolution of the NWC lacked the power to take decision for the party and, as such, they did not deserve a response from him.
