President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday warned political forces or anyone who thought he would be answerable to him in the next four years, saying he belonged to nobody. He spoke soon after he was formally inaugurated as the successor to Dr. Goodluck Jonathan at the Eagle Square, Abuja, the nation’s capital. Amid intermittent applause and shouts of “Sai Baba” and “Sai Buhari” from the audience, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Muhammed, administered the oaths on Buhari at exactly 10.47am In his inaugural speech, Buhari dressed in a cream-coloured kaftan with a brown cap to match stated that while he was prepared to serve Nigerians, who voted him into power on March 28, he would not be under the control of anybody. “Having just a few minutes ago sworn on the Holy Book, I intend to keep my oath and serve as President to all Nigerians. I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody,” Buhari said. He allayed the fears by some suspected past corrupt leaders who might view Buhari’s presidency as coming to victimise them. He reassured such persons that their fears were unfounded, adding that he had opted to put the past behind him. “A few people have privately voiced their fears that on coming back to office, I shall go after them. These fears are groundless. There will be no paying off old scores. The past is prologue,” Buhari said. Rather than going after such persons, the President said the immediate task before him was to address the major concerns of Nigerians, mainly insecurity, “intolerable corruption” and epileptic power supply. Although his speech did not clearly indicate the drastic steps he would take to solve the problem of the power sector, he recalled that the $20bn spent on the sector since 1999 had only left Nigeria in “darkness and misery” which must be “addressed.” The President said, “No single cause can be identified to explain Nigeria’s poor economic performance over the years than the power situation. It is a national shame that an economy of 180 million generates only 4,000MW and distributes even less. “Continuous tinkering with the structures of power supply and distribution and close on $20bn expended since 1999 have only brought darkness, frustration, misery and resignation among Nigerians. We will not allow this to go on. Careful studies are under way during this transition to identify the quickest, safest and most cost-effective way to bring light and relief to Nigerians.” On insecurity, he admitted that the Boko Haram sect remained the major threat to Nigeria, saying that the Federal Government under him “must” do everything within its powers to bring insurgency to an end. MRBrownJ:And I can even remember one that was flogged publicly for being raped...also in one of the middle east countries...it is a shame and human right abuse. Unborn generations will look back at all these and say what? |
greatgod2012:Very true...but I somehow understand why people are running away from commenting on this thread. Most people are religious and they know their doctrine doesn't support abortion. Most of them will come here and quote all verses but deep right in their minds, they will never keep the baby. Keep opinions coming... |
MRBrownJ:That's if they are allowed to make a choice. Was watching CNN a month ago and there's this young lady that was forced to marry the man who raped her. Can't recall exactly where but it was one of these middle east countries. It is a stigma to her, to her family and she could hardly walk on the street. To me, it is as simple as it gets, i will suppress that pregnancy. I cannot live with such pain for eternity. |
Cutehector:Clear answer... |
luvlyann:The same way you think the baby might turn out to be great in the future, so also are the chances of the child becoming a boko haram member or a gang leader. Look, I believe it goes beyond what the child will become, it is more about having a baby that will always make you sad or feel terrible anytime you remember how he came to ths world. If it were you, what would you do? |
What would you do if your teenage daughter, kid sister, cousin, niece gets impregnated through no fault of hers, by a rapist? Would you advise the her to go for an abortion or to keep the baby? It is really a difficult situation but as for me....hmmmmm....let me hear you first. Or let me add another twist to it, what if it was you? Would you keep or abort? |

PRINCEOFPACE:It clearly shows how shallow your knowledge on this matter is and frankly speaking, I will not share your sentiments neither will I have your kind of mentality. Don't stylishly breed corruption. If a man is wanted for a crime, let him face it squarely. It doesn't matter whether it happened in the moon or in the US. How dare you say brother's keeper? To a thief? Are you seriously serious? SMH...and you will classify yourself as youth of tomorrow...What a shame! |
One Ajayi Olatunbosun has been arrested by the police for allegedly hiring thugs to pour acid on his ex-wife, Bamidele Otakiti, in her shop on Adejobi Street in the Ajasa Command area of Lagos. PUNCH Metro gathered that all had been well between the couple since they moved to Lagos in 2005 until a few months ago when a disagreement soured their relationship. The quarrel was said to have led to their separation in February, 2015. It was learnt that the suspect, prior to the divorce, had on several occasions accused Otakiti of adultery. Our correspondent gathered that despite his discontent with the alleged act, the 47-year-old commercial motorcycle rider (okada rider) had pleaded with the woman not to divorce him. It was learnt that Otakiti bore three children for Olatunbosun. PUNCH Metro gathered that the two-man assailant team had come to Otakiti’s shop on April 21 at about 7.30pm, with a substance which later tested positive for acid. She was reportedly trying to give them change for some items they had bought when they poured the substance on her. The attackers allegedly told the woman that they were sent by her ex-husband before they fled the area. She was said to have been rushed to a nearby hospital, from where she was referred to the General Hospital, Ile Epo, for intensive care. Olatunbosun, who lives on Adetoun Street, Abule-Egba, was apprehended after his alleged involvement in the incident, which was reported at the Meiran Police Station. A police source told our correspondent that the Ifewara, Osun State, indigene initially denied the allegation, but later owned up after being thoroughly quizzed. The source said, “He initially denied hiring the thugs. But after a comprehensive interrogation, he confessed, saying the woman had been flaunting her beauty and committing adultery. He is giving us useful information to track the fleeing suspects.” Olatunbosun was brought before an Ojokoro Magistrate’s Court on two counts of assault preferred against him by a police prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi. The charges read, “That you, Ajayi Olatunbosun, 42, and two others now at large, on April 21, 2015, at about 7.30pm on Adejobi Street, Ajasa Command, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire to commit felony to wit: grievous harm and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011. “That you, and two others now at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did grievously harm one Bamidele Otakiti by pouring liquid acid on her and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.” The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. Mrs. O.A. Olayinka, a senior magistrate, admitted him to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. “The sureties must show evidence of means of livelihood to the court for verification,” Olayinka added. The case was adjourned till June 25, 2015. http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/man-sends-thugs-to-pour-acid-on-ex-wife

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said that it would not vacate the residence of Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu despite a court order to that effect. The NDLEA had placed Kashamu on house arrest on Saturday, May 23, 2015 after attempts to apprehend him failed. However, a Federal High Court in Lagos, on Tuesday, May 26, ordered the drug agency to leave Kashamu’s house. In response, the agency stated that the court order would not stop it from performing its statutory duties “in a lawful manner”. The NDLEA also said via a statement released by spokesperson, Mitchell Ofoyeju that the court order is “diversionary and inconsequential”. The statement reads: “The NDLEA does not believe that any court will issue an order preventing a government agency from performing its statutory responsibilities in a lawful manner.” “The agency has therefore refused to be distracted and will continue to maintain presence at the residence. It is advisable that Kashamu respects the law by submitting himself to the due process of the law.” “The NDLEA wishes to reiterate that his rights like that of other citizens shall be respected and the due process of law followed in this case. The NDLEA spokesperson also said that the agency had received a formal request for Kashamu’s extradition from the United States Government. The agency seeks to extradite Kashamu for drug charges levelled against him in Chicago in 1998. The Senator-elect has however denied the charges against him citing a case of mistaken identitiy. http://pulse.ng/local/buruji-kashamu-we-won-t-vacate-his-residence-ndlea-says-id3798099.html

I am inclined to believe these marketers. All these customs officer are not clean in anyway, with all the goodies that come their way everyday. |
Oil marketers, importing petrol into the country under the Petroleum Support Fund (PSF) scheme have alleged that agents of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) are collecting Temporary Importation Permit (TIP) of N2 million and additional unofficial fee of $30,000 for any foreign-flagged vessel laden with petroleum products. The marketers alleged the existence of flourishing regime of extortion estimated at N3 billion annually, being run by men and officers of the NCS through coercion of oil importers with illegal monetary demands to facilitate the release of foreign vessels laden with petroleum products. Marketers, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation, disclosed the existence of an extortion scheme that was allegedly sanctioned by the top echelon of the Nigerian Customs. “The scheme involves the extortion of $30,000 from agents by customs officials each time a foreign vessel bearing petroleum products berths at the ports. Averagely, 40 of such vessels arrive the nation’s shores every month, bringing the total amount raked in by the scheme to about N3 billion per annum. These payments are not receipted,” said one of the oil importers. However, in a swift reaction to this, Deputy Comptroller of Customs and spokesman of the Nigeria Customs Service, Wale Adeniyi said at the weekend that the marketers “do not pay a dime as import duties for petrol,” adding also that payment of TIP is paid only on goods meant for re-export and not for imported petrol. “TIP is paid for things you import into Nigeria and re-export. TIP cannot be for fuel. For example, if you are coming into Nigeria for exhibition, you pay TIP in case you divert the materials to Nigeria,” he explained. Adeniyi described the allegation as false, stressing that marketers do not pay any official import duties, let alone unofficial as alleged. - See more at: http://bizwatchnigeria.ng/nigeria-customs-officials-extorting-us-petrol-marketers-cry/#sthash.zMnzmijA.dpuf
