Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has urged US President, Barack Obama to do more to bring back the missing Chibok girls.
Ezekwesili stated this while attending the TIME 100 Gala in New York City on Tuesday, April 21, 2015.
The #BringbackOurGirls activist was recently named as one of TIME’s most influential people in the world.

“If he [Obama] could get Osama bin Laden, he could get our girls,” Ezekwesili said.
“It is time for someone as powerful as Barack Obama to compare the girls of Chibok to his own daughters. These girls are a symbol of our own message to girls, that they should be educated, that we would go beyond the call of duty for you,” she added.

Ezekwesili also lamented that we live in a world where “a child is forced to choose between being alive and being educated.”
The Chibok girls were abducted on April 14, 2014, over a year ago, by Boko Haram insurgents.
Obama had said, when asked about the girls during a recent interview, that the Nigerian government has proved ineffective against the terrorist sect.
Other Nigerians who were named among the TIME 100 are President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, bestselling author, Chimamanda Adichie and Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau.

PoliticsI Don't Need Your Praise, Tinubu Tells Kashamu (Punch) by lolaxavier(op):
The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has rejected the praises showered on him by Ogun-East senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu.

Kashamu, who is the Chairman of the Organisation and Mobilisation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West, had last week, described Tinubu as his role model and the architect of modern Nigeria.

However, Tinubu, in a statement by his media adviser, Mr. Sunday Dare, described Kashamu as a pretender.

The former governor of Lagos State said there was no basis for comparison between himself and Kashamu, adding that he felt insulted by the open letter addressed to him by Kashamu.

He said, “The days of false adulation are gone in Nigerian politics. Fake praise singers like Kashamu will find that their particular craft is no longer in vogue. During this election cycle, their practice has dramatically turned from the way things are to how things used to be.

“Politicians will no longer be able to change direction and loyalties as if they were changing clothes. Those in politics must know that responsibility and accountability shall now follow them. One can no longer walk both sides of the street at the same time. In case Kashamu has not noticed, the politics of principle defeated the politics of posturing.”

Tinubu said it was ironic that Kashamu could praise him after conspiring with other PDP leaders to produce and broadcast a hate documentary against him.

He said Kashamu’s actions and lifestyle showed that President Goodluck Jonathan and the leader of the PDP in Lagos, Chief Bode George, were his true role models.

Tinubu said Kashamu, who was rude to elders like former President Olusegun Obsanjo could not be his political son

He said, “Kashamu may be prodigal but he is no political son of Tinubu. Kashamu’s political lineage tracks to people like Bode George and President Jonathan. He should direct his encomiums to these men who are his true role models. They need his contrived affections more than Tinubu does.

“This same Kashamu rained insults on former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a vicious campaign of calumny. Kashamu’s party, the PDP, sponsored defamatory documentaries full of lies and innuendos against me, General Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders of the APC.”

Tinubu urged Kashamu to turn himself to the United States’ authorities over the accusations of drug smuggling levelled against him, adding that only then would he believe that he was a reformed person.

The former governor said as a person of repute, he could not be seen to be hobnobbing with people of questionable character as this would affect his reputation across the world.

“Please keep your peace until you make your trip to the USA as a senator-elect. Upon your return we can then have a conversation. We can then proceed with your repudiation of the PDP with a promise that you will stop corrupting and fouling the political system.

“I am a patriotic, law abiding Nigerian and my achievements make me world-renowned. I am a global citizen that travels freely to the USA, the United Kingdom and other nations. I associate with individuals who seek democracy and good governance for all. I do not spend time with characters whose values are at variance with societal expectations and laws governing a decent society.”

CrimeTunde Kelani, Yemi Shodimu And Kunle Afolayan With Others Walk Against Piracy by lolaxavier(op): 4:20pm On Apr 21, 2015
Tunde Kelani, Yemi Shodimu and Kunle Afolayan with others walk against piracy in Lagos.

I have a special hatred for pirates and other criminals who engage in intellectual theft. Someone will sweat for something and one fool will reap all the gains without doing anything. It is even more annoying when some Nigerians behave as if intellectual theft is nothing when it is actually ruining the lives of the most hardworking actors. Have you seen Afolayan's October 1? He pumped a fortune into making that super flick only for some idiots at Alaba to roll out pirated copies.
Afolayan and others must keep up the struggle, they should collaborate well with the media and government and exterminate these descendants from Hell called pirates. This is what sensible actors should be doing and not running like fools after politicians because of bread crumbs. Say no to piracy, buy the original and encourage these artistes. Stop killing them. Wicked society we live in, you don't patronize them and when they have health challenges, you will not donate, why are we just evil like this? We must stamp out piracy. If baboon work, baboon must chop. Shikena.

HealthRe: Pesticides Responsible For Ondo Deaths, Says WHO - Punch by lolaxavier(op): 7:36am On Apr 20, 2015
When some people have already started calling their 18BC gods to come to their rescue
HealthPesticides Responsible For Ondo Deaths, Says WHO - Punch by lolaxavier(op): 6:30am On Apr 20, 2015
The World Health Organisation says pesticide poisoning is the probable cause of mysterious deaths of over 18 people in Ode Irele, in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Those who died suffered from blurred vision and headaches, and then lost consciousness before dying within 24 hours.

The “current hypothesis is cause of the event is herbicides,” WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl, said in a tweet.

“Tests done so far are negative for viral and bacterial infection,” he added.

The WHO spokesman said the current theory was that the deaths were caused by weedkiller.

All of those affected started showing symptoms between April 13 and 15.

The tests were carried out at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, the WHO said.

Meanwhile, the WHO officials have visited Irele town in Ondo State to trace some victims with symptoms of the unknown disease that has killed over 18 persons.

The Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, said this at a news briefing in Akure on Saturday.

The commissioner added that five victims of the disease, who were still alive as of Saturday had been moved to the University College Hospital, Ibadan on Saturday night.

Adeyanju and other state government officials also visited Irele to get first hand information from some of the victims who are still alive and their relations.

The commissioner, however, revealed that the two victims discharged themselves from the hospital against medical advice.

He stated that medical personnel had begun tracing the address of the two victims and others who he said the state government would move to the UCH, Ibadan for further treatment.

He said, “We were together with the WHO officials on active case search. We are looking for people with the disease. We have been calling on the people of the town who are down with the disease to come out and it is working. Five patients have been moved to the UCH and I know that their cases will be well-handled. The attention of the whole world is on it.

“The Ondo State Government will pay the bill, the patients are not going to pay, we just want them to come out so that we can find a solution to the disease.

“The disease is not contagious and it is not infectious. If it is contagious those treating them would have come down with the symptoms.”

The Ondo State Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Betiku Bamidele, told one of our correspondents that fresh blood and urine samples had been taken from the cases and they had been sent to two separate laboratories outside the state.

Bamidele said, “Fresh blood samples have been taken from these cases for further toxicology studies in two separate laboratories. Also, some sample of the drinks they took have also been taken for analysis. It is not infectious. Toxicity of some sort is likely to be the cause.”

Earlier, the Health commissioner had explained that four of the drinkers had died while one of them was alive but down with the sickness.

The commissioner urged members of the public to discountenance the terrifying photos of some persons with bumps all over their bodies saying those in the photographs did not die of the disease.

Some residents of the town, who also corroborated Adeyanju’s claims, told one of our correspondents that the WHO officials visited the General Hospital at Ode Irele where two of the victims were admitted.

A resident of the town, Mr. Jobi Enimade, who is an accountant with the Ministry of Niger Delta at Igbokoda office, said that the WHO officials came to his residence and asked him questions about the disease.

PoliticsChibok Girls' Kidnap, Plot Against Jonathan - Okupe by lolaxavier(op): 6:51am On Apr 19, 2015
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, on Saturday, said that the April 14, 2014 kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls from their school hostel in Chibok, Borno State, was designed to present President Goodluck Jonathan and his administration as incompetent.

The female pupils were kidnapped by the Boko Haram insurgents.

On Tuesday, world leaders while marking the one-year anniversary of the girls’ abduction renewed calls for their immediate rescue.

One of the people who called for support to ensure that the girls are released was the 17-year-old Nobel Peace laureate, Malala Yousafzai.

Malala criticised Jonathan and Nigeria’s security operatives for not doing enough to free the Chibok girls.

But Okupe said the kidnap of the girls was carried out for political reasons.

Posting on his Facebook, he said, “One of the reasons the Chibok girls were kidnapped was to present Jonathan’s administration as incompetent and hold it to ransom against 2015 elections. One of the reasons the BBOG (BringBackOurGirls) was formed was to sustain and internationalise the embarrassment.

“One of the reasons President Jonathan lost the election was a national and international conspiracy predicated on this carefully choreographed and assiduously sustained perception. One of the issues that will be in the hand over notes will be the missing girls.

“What is reasonable and expedient for well-meaning men and women of good conscience is to dialogue with the incoming administration on what best new approach to employ to find and rescue the Chibok girls. Not much can be achieved, except mischief, by continuing to flog this administration on this matter.”
