Mcslize:My life and standard of living generally is way way way much better than I was in Nigeria. There is sanity here. And sometimes, I walk home around 2am or 3am and I'm not scared of anyone robbing me. Life as a student isn't easy here because we all know how we got here. So assuming I came here as a student who has paid all his/her tuition or on a work visa, I would have had more pleasurable experiences. Life as a student is stressful and tough. But that's the price to pay for immigration because you will definitely have to learn the ropes of your new society. I'm doing a 1yr MSC program, so I just know that I'll go through some tough times for just 1yr and then after that... I can only go upward from there. People tend to judge UK from the lenses of students who struggled to come here for studies. Because we tend to be the loudest. People who come here on a work visa don't make noise. UK has it's down sides but it's been a blessing to me even as a student. Then how much more if I came here on a work visa! As a student, I have been able to take care of my dad's medical bills...and this was something I couldn't do when I was in Nigeria. When I hear @Tensazangetsu20 lambast the UK lol, I just laugh. He's always been a UK critic so I expect that from him sha. UK is good if you're willing to put in the work and if you come here with an open mind to relearn the job market because its different from 9ja. |
Mcslize:Yes! |
Karleb:Story of my life. I started thinking of leaving Nigeria in 2017 and it materialized 6yrs later. |

Then in 2019... my Uncle in US reached out to me!!! ![]() |
I got into Nysc in 2018. And in that period I was very active in the Japa thread on Nairaland. Anywhere I see a new Japa thread you go see my for there. In 2019 I applied for one Entry the Finland Government was doing. I can't remember what it was at the time but it was something that had to do with the Happiness of Finland and in respect to that, they wanted to bring people from other countries to come and stay in Finland for I think 2 weeks...all expenses paid! All that was required for you to do was to upload a video of yourself, telling them why you should be selected and all that. Omo, with my Itel P32 phone I went out to and open field , just opposite the place i was serving and did the video, said all the things I had in mind and then uploaded it. And hoped I would be selected. Then I went on to read about Finland and other ways to Japa to Finland. As expected , I wasn't selected, but then it gave me the interest of knowing more about Finland and how to Japa there. |
I began to see that things could be possible and all I needed to do was have a plan...even if the plan wouldn't work, I just needed to have a plan. So I became active on Nairaland. Through Nairaland, I literally became an immigration expert o, knowing Japa routes about Germany, USA, Estonia, Poland, Czech republic, Brazil, Lithuania and Mexico. I had a nairaland account before then but I wasn't active. But my uncle's US movement opened my eyes and gave me the interest to read and gain more knowledge about JAPA. And from that moment, I never looked back. |
Sorry for the long wait. I have been busy and trying to wrap my head around a whole lot of things. So my decision to document my story was born out of the sole aim to Inspire that one person who has a plan and sees no way out in executing that plan or has tried hard to achieve something but things seem not to work out. I believe my story will help to keep your hope alive and I believe, things will work out for good. I will omit some private details due to personal reasons sha... So it all started in 2017, when I was at home and then my uncle came to see my dad, to let him know that he has gotten a US visa. Everyone was so happy, because this is something my uncle has been trying to get for a very very long time. He has spent so many years and even refused to go to a Nigerian university because all his eyes is in USA. The whole family was tired of him, and even saw him as someone who's not serious with his life. But all that changed when he got a Visa to the USA. Money no dey Money no dey, the family raised 1.9M for him and he left. I can still remember the day he left... one evening like that around 5pm via Qatar airways. Meeeeeeen that was a defining moment of my life! As I never saw the possibility of leaving Nigeria due to finance. |
ElSudani:As in no go , why you no go?? |
Omo I remember that loan. E help me that year. I deg use Kuda so I'm safe. |
Regex:Nice one. I dey tell people say, if you are in a good country, you don't need prayers for things to work. |
Dikastan:This one wey no get passport |
tensazangetsu20:You're are actually very right. Raalsalghul is very golden with his insights, hmmmm what an amazing read. As for me, I got into Scotland in August for my MSC and I should be rounding up next year. I have already applied for 2024 Internships and one company had already reached out to me and I've taken their assessment. I just hope I passed o😁...The company in question is one of the biggest in the UK. And I'm also waiting for responses from other ones I applied to. My school I think is one of the top 40 uni in UK according to them but to me e no really matter. I believe being in an environment where your hardwork pays off really matters. Weather you go to a top school or not opportunities abound if you do your own part by Skilling up. By the way, I'm studying MSC User experience design. And I have knowledge in front end development( Html, Css & Javascript) |
GlobeTrotter2:Thanks boss. Omo I hope you have still my number o |

I just thank the stars for aligning to my course... I'm currently outside in the city center with my people... when I'm back I'll write my story |
tensazangetsu20:My G... Thank you baba!! Me self happy die!! Honestly I still dey shock say I finally escape ... And it happened when I least expected it to. Congratulations on your smooth and well planned escape too. |
