ProgrammingA Programmer's Delight by lordbenax(op): 5:48pm On Jun 06, 2009
Every Programmer's delight is to see that a software he/she created is working perfectly and in the reach of its target audience. At HotBase, we just simplified this fact.

Welcome to HotBase - Nigeria's Premier Online Software MarketPlace (www.hotbaseng.com). HotBase was launched a few days ago to help the average Nigerian Software Developer or average Nigerian Software Developing Company/Team get his/her/their software to their target market at no extra cost. You just need to post it at HotBase and include a link in the posting to your server where the software setup resides.

That is you first upload the software setup on a server then go down to your HotBase Profile and post the software details. HotBase has an excellent targeted market/audience, so you can be rest assured of genuine traffic down to see your Software Posting. HotBase takes care of the marketing and advertising needed to bring customers down to HotBase.

Whats more interesting, HotBase is open-source! So if you find any glitch or error on it, you just ping us and we might rig you up to fix it.

The job doesn't pay yet but would as revenues flow in, but you get a 4% ownership stake and it becomes all yours as long as you stay on the team for a minimum of 5years.

So if you can run a business, I mean you understand all the operations, marketing/sales, HR, branding and all, Just send us a to mailbox@payxpressng.com

ProgrammingRe: Is Software Yet To Be Tapped? by lordbenax(op): 6:31pm On Nov 25, 2008
If you carely look at all my posts, i neva offered HOPE for we creating a new OS! My teams and i know dat when we meet We are talking about leveraging/riding on the backs of every existing SOFTWARE COMPANY and not driving them out. Competition makes business sweeter no doubt but we are turning all competition to strategic partners.

On my Software Army Thread this were my last words:

Yo! The step is application-software not an operating system. Microsoft didnt build the Windows check the report on The GUI Confrence held at california 1999, send me your e-mail address to receive it, they only modified what the earlier proagrammers at seattle at built. Now the monopoly Microsoft enjoys is due to Apple's Macintosh mistake; The Company had just built a wonderful and first of its kind GUI OS- The Macintosh- then they fired Steve JOBS and refused to license the system to independent hardware makers. This cost them because Uncle Bill just moved with in his team and copied the whole thing and started licensing it, that was how their focused changed to the OS industry.

To challenge microsoft we nid to span across multiple OSes not just build a new one. Why is java still better than vb.net, because it serves a hosts of operating system. Think Possible and act possible. My Team would be going on launch January 12th next year, just watch out for what we have. We are not deciding to build OSes but applications, applications that challenge what OSes do. Imagine accessing your Home TV, Home kitchen etc from your office through your Home 2.0 application, it is just imaginations away.

Peace!!! I am still watching this thread

End Class
I know what it takes to build an OS from scratch and i don't think i want to waste my time building such! There r more futuristic apps. waiting to be developed! Think of things such as an interactive TV that captures your favourite programs when u r not around and replays them back for you as soon as you get back and settle down into your favourite TV-Watching position, or a software that makes all your payment transactions for you e.t.c.

The Future is in our hands!

What are your suggestions? But please say something reasonable and don't give me this crap about we Nigerian developers beating Microsoft in software development. Or are your not the guy who was 'recruiting software army'? huh shocked. That post was one of the most stupid thread (my opinion please. I don't mean to be disrespectful. I am sorry if you feel insulted). Here, I am asking for your valued opinion. What do you think is the way forward? See what Indians are doing? Can we replicate that?
Yo! @MisterMan. I was offering a hope when i said we should challenge Microsoft, now that hope is closed to outsiders, the guys working with me understand. Now in this post i was talking about creating solutions whether it has to be with Microsoft's OS or whatever. If u read my post well i offered every reaonable apporach u might need to get started!
ProgrammingIs Software Yet To Be Tapped? by lordbenax(op): 1:27pm On Nov 17, 2008
Yo! Guys if we really look at it, software goes way beyond just the PC(Personal Computers). Emerging markets are beginning to pop up in terms of Mobiles, GPS, Quality Interaction, Information Systems e.t.c.

I just read Bill Gates' THE ROAD AHEAD and he talked about his house. Here is what he said:

"I'm thinking about of this because I've recently built a new house. My house is a house for the future. It is pretty. But most of all, it is comfortable. It's where my family and I live.

My House is made of wood, glass and stone. It is also made out of software.

If you come to visit, you'll probably be surprised when you come in. Someone will give you an electronic pin to wear. This pin tells the house who and where you are. The house uses this information to give you what you need. When it's dark outside, the pin turns on the lights nearest you, and
then turns them off as you walk away from them. Music moves with you too. If the house knows your favorite music, it plays it. The music seems to be everywhere, but in fact other people in the house hear different music or no music. If you get a telephone call, only the nearest telephone rings. favorite/favourite -

Of course, you are also able to tell the house if you want something. There is a home control console, a small machine that turns things on and off around you.

The pin and the console are new ideas, but they are in fact like many things we have today. If you want to go to a movie, you need a ticket. If I give you my car keys, you can use my car. The car works for you because you have the keys. My house works for you because you wear the pin or hold the console.

I believe that ten years from now, most new homes will have the system that I've put in my house. The systems will probably even be bigger and better than the ones I've put in today."
He built this house years ago! The amazing fact was he saying that the house wasn't hinged on any Mother Software(Operating System). All the house softwares work independently of each other but seamlessly communicate together.

Now that says software is really yet to tapped. Imagine softwares that help you prepare a course study based on your intelligence level, present a vast community of solution providers to you, turns any avaliable wall around you to your interactive monitor that can be controlled with your touch, help co-ordinate your organizations' DIGITAL NERVOUS SYSTEM, creates a platform on top of existing platforms so that users can port their softwares to different systems back and forth with no hassles, systems that realize the concept of a paperless office, prevent you from receiving to much unwanted information, systems that make CCTVs able to detect suspicious activities, e.t.c The list is so long. The one reason why Microsoft is the biggest software in history is because they have being able to recognize this and they make the right changes at the right time. We are in an era of hinging on existing systems, in plain english it would be beta to port same applications on different OSes than having to create a whole new one.

The major thing i have noted is that in the software world, it is we, the softwares developers that have the most power. Why do u think Microsoft is spending billions creating a language suite for their OS, so that developers can keep creating engaging softwares for users of Microsoft Windows. They have learnt that they can't make all the softwares themselves! Or think again about their new campaign "Windows Vs Walls". I am just using this to say that it is time we Nigerian Software Developers take the bulls by the horns and start creating engaging and interactive softwares. Who knows the time of the mouse, keyboard or touch screen might be over! Who would make the next interactive tool? Nigerian Software Developers, lets do this!!!!!! wink

Yo! C# programmers, i have a little problem. Though C# is not my primary programming langauge, I know C# a little. I av also bin able to convert a few C# codes to vb.net and java. But there is a key word i keep coming across and i don't know its function in C#. it is the 'using' keyword. I know like in C++ it is used for class reference but i come across it in cases like this

public void method(){
,
using(Dogder rr = new Dogder){
//implementation
}
,
}

I would like the C# programmers to help me out! I want to know that keyword's function in instances like this!
Thanks!!

ProgrammingRe: How Well Do You Thik You Can Apply "programmers" ? by lordbenax(m): 3:17pm On Nov 11, 2008
Guy! What u posted doesn't look like serious work to me expect u are trying to build a "DIGITAL NERVOUS SYSTEM" for the hospital. Also a digital nervous system entails more than just want u posted. From what i can deduce u simply want a PATIENT-WHO-WANT-SURGERY RECORDING SOFTWARE! Don't be so lazy, just get your head down and think!

No Beefs! But really this doesn't look like something that the WHOLE NAIRALAND PROGRAMMERS should attend to and forget their own work!

Also note that u hospitals have this kind of software! U can't create what is popular in the same-popular-way and sell. Thats the market for you. It automatically disfavours same-kind products with same or low face values!

Bro! create something that would make the whole nairaland shake and not this! it also has to have market relevance.

Op u dont hate me after this! undecided

That's that bro!
ProgrammingRe: Becoming A Guru In Programming! by lordbenax(m): 5:40pm On Nov 04, 2008
Big Star:
Well bross,

To me neither Uni nor Cert  guarantees you good programming skills.

because at Uni, you will only leran the theories with no practical (every nigerian knows that).

And another thing is that many students struggle to get good grades by cramming their lesson notes and as such, you won't want to be underated, so you might find yourself in that kind situation.

For cert as well, you focus will be 70% (if not 100%) on how to get the cert and not what you have to learn. That's y any people look for dumps.

To me programming is not what you learn but what you know.

did I hear you saying how?

I mean programming is not the syntax you learn, but you personal logic.

To me it's the programmer's logic we call programming and not any language
Oh! BigStar I am so feeling you. You gave just the right answers at the right time. Let me drop a secret: I dropped out willingly from the university to focus on building just my programming skills and to breed my growing software company. I was in 200 Level, studying Elect/Elect in UNILAG. It took me 4months to make the decision, and i would say i have no regrets so ever. Recently i wanted to employ a so-called first-class graduate of computer science to be my Chief Technology Officer, but he didnt no what .NET was or even how to run a JAVA application on any platform!

So UNI and building up urself are two extremes. i am not against anybody going to school the choice is just yours to make.

I recently started designing a game with my team members and what we are thinking of creating I doubt if any Computer Science Professor in Nigeria can grasp only the thinking model. And do you know the bright side? We havent started thinking of what language to use to build the game!

Just stick to your process and you would definitely become a GURU! Remember: THE PROCESS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE GOAL.

Safe!
Tech JobsRe: Final Year Project - Mayday by lordbenax(m): 12:49pm On Oct 15, 2008
Yo!
Don't let the choice of programming language be a stoppage. Technology is not about programming language, software or hardware it is about people and brains. I dont see any hardwork in what u just said.

1. Build the music player as a desktop application that calls a webservice placed on the music download web site
2. when it calls the webservice, let the first method be to query against a database placed on the web server for all avaliable songs or songs based on the user's search: SELECT * FROM MUSIC WHERE MUSICTITLE = @MUSICTITLE.
3. You would get a datatable, pass it into a session to store it then let a method return that datatable back to the application
4. The application recieves the datatable and passes as a datasource to any component you want to display the data.
5. You use this back/forth method to relay information to/from the web server
6. For the 5 playing times mechanisms: Let the Computer Read the Computer's BIOS info, Store it into a settings, then any time a track is played let it retriev that value and increment it or simply store the number of times the track is played, incrementing with each time. Give a conditional statement that on reading that setings value if it indicates to 5, bring up your Payment Dialog Form, ask the necessary details and call a certain method in your webservice to do the neccessary verification.

If you dont want to use a webservice. You can use a TCP or UDP connection. But make sure you place another program(maybe a console app) on the web server that opens ports and listens for incoming connections from client desktop music players. One Caution make sure the program closes any ports it disposes because that opens loops for hackers.
I think this should help al lot
