Ikpongiton: You aren't wrong at all. The police have to stop abusing the masses. To the people who are law abiding and love their fellow neighbors even though they are suffering, I have to upmost respect, love and well wishes. I'm not justifying the actions of the police. In fact, I abhor their daily criminal activities that make our lives unbearable. They are in a position of power so they extort us when the opportunity arises. The same can be said of people who steal, rape, scam or do other nefarious activities simply because "they can." At this point blaming people for making bad decisions due to limited options is an obvious option but one that won't get us anywhere. We have to begin to address the root cause of the mismanagement of funds that creates the rotten environment that allows the bad decisions to exist. If we don't make the system better from the top we'll keep getting the same results at the bottom. |

Ikpongiton: They have wives and children. The police behave the way they do because they aren't properly cared for. As a result, they commit the very crime they should be stopping. They are people just like us. There is enough money, food, land, etc for all of us to live well but some take more than their fair share and leave us to suffer. It's a shame and a pity. |

The only people who care about federal slots are politicians, ethnic guard dog groups and people who can get contracts. The average person doesn't care as shown by the low voter turnout. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Nobody wants to get killed for another man's ambition. We don't applaud any of our governor's nor pretend they are doing a good job. Other regions will take pride their governance or rather lack there of. That's the difference. Voting is unfortunately done by impoverished areas and the educated stay out. We should take a more active role in politics but once again it boils down to people feeling as though they have too much to lose for another man who may very well disappoint after he is sworn in. Because if a man dies defending his vote who will care for his family? 5 Likes |

Politics / Re: PDP To Zone 2023 Presidency To The North by LoveMachine(m): 10:52am On Mar 11, 2019 |
Any party that has 2023 Arewa candidate wants to lose. The East is nearly claiming the ticket as a birthright in spirit of equity and equality. The Southwest is doing the same due to their massive contributions to Buhari’s now 2 time victorious emergence at the polls. The south-south is always at the table because they control the oil. APC- Jagaban, Fashola & Osinbajo are the likely/best candidates. Kachikwu might make a play due to him being Igbo from the SS because that covers a wide spread. Amaechi is a no go. Okorocha is dead on arrival. PDP- That’s gonna be WAR! If you thought VP slot got ugly, 2023 is gonna set the SE on fire. The SS might even make a bid with people like Wike & Okowa being Igbo but residing in Niger Delta states. APGA-Obiano These are only projections but who knows what will happen in 4 weeks let alone 4 years. Who saw Kwankwaso, Tambuwual, Atiku & Saraki going back to PDP? Who saw Akpabio going to APC? Politics can’t be predicted. Let’s just sit back and watch. 18 Likes |

whirlwind7: The votes were certainly manipulated but It can be argued both ways. The only constant is Buhari always win Kano. There are people on Twitter basically calling Buhari his own political party/institution. They’re talking about how they will vote for him anytime and anyplace at the federal but vote another party locally. He’s reached mythical status up north and Atiku is closer to Ganduje as far as reputation than Buhari. This was there plan all along. I’m thoroughly impressed with their political savvy. |

husbandsnatcha: First off, I'm Igbo. Secondly, stop insulting Yoruba people. You sound stupid. Thirdly, they just did in one election cycle what we haven't done since '99 in the SS & SE. They literally walked with the cars to the collation centers and stayed overnight to make sure the election wasn't stolen. You even made up a hypothetical situation that didn't happen just to insult people who achieved a tremendous feat. Get your mind right. Did some people vote for Gandollar? Certainly but the most important thing is he lost. We have had shitty governance in our region and we have learned to bend over and take it with a smile. They gave hime the boot just as Kwara said Otoge. In 2023, we need to do the same. Udo. 10 Likes |

I learned a lot about Arewa politics today. I thought they were silently endorsing corruption when I saw how full the rallies were and how hard they cheered. But today Ganduje has been quietly removed from office. No talking just action. We can definitely learn something from them. This should be emulated nationwide. Respect. 36 Likes 4 Shares |

seunfly: You're missing my point. When I said prove it to him. I meant show him why he is wrong. Correct him if need be. When no one counters a mad man does he know he is mad? It's not self entitlement it is rather an open challenge for a debate to grow. It comes across as toxic on the internet because there is no filter/temperance because the majority of people you see present are younger than 25. With age comes the wisdom of understading mine ends where yours begins. Stop saying Saraki is beloved of Igbo. He is an enemy of Buhari so they so him as a useful ally for they time being. I don't respect him personally. I'd venture to say the majority of the SE doesn't thus his low votes at the PDP convention. He is a symbol of Buhai's selective integrity which they also feel victimized by. They are mad about Atiku losing because they bought into his lies of "restructuring" as if he would have NASS support and they hate anything Buhari/APC due to his policies that have directly impacted them moreso than anyone else. The Naira inflation crippled business in the region and the python dance when Arewa is literally soaked in blood has people angry to no end. The anti-corruption war only targeting PDP members unless the switch parties is another point of contention. But if you look at the low voter turnout you'll see Atiku isn't beloved in the region. He was just a lesser of two evils. The same way you find his opinion offensive, he may find your silence on these subjects to be even more unacceptable. If you asked why Abia and other states re-elected the governors you'd get an answer. I'll tell you why if you don't know. PDP has been rigging the region since '99 til date. People know this. When PDP is unable to win by passive rigging they will resort to violence. A man will say to himself," If I die defending my votes for a man who may very well not deliver on his campaign promises who will take care of my family?" He looks around and decides quickly the election will and go. APGA taking over Anambra was a lucky break due to PDP greed in the form of overzealous godfatherism leading to disqualification from polls.2015 Diezani paid out billions of Naira to rig the region. APGA won Abia in 2015 but lost in the courts. We know our votes don't count so most people focus on making money. If elections are free & fair with no fear of violence then we would vote en masse as other regions do. SE is the most liberal of zones. APGA, PDP and APC are all flying flags in the zone at the executive level. Censorship is the last thing we need. If we don't have these discussions we will continue to his distrust and misunderstandings. Just from this short exchange I have gotten to understand why people view Ndi Igbo as being self-entitled. As much as I love Azikiwe I agree with Ahmadu Bello when he countered him by saying," We shouldn't put our differences to the side but rather acknowledge them." Us trying to pretend we are all the same for the convenience of comfort is why we find ourselves in true discomfort. The thieves in NASS argue all day and get paid well for it. They group together and milk us dry. Meanwhile, we don't know the cultures of our people 3 states away. Something has got to change. Thanks for talking. 3 Likes |

seunfly: It's a cultural difference. I'm sure it rubs people the wrong way but it is how things are done in the East. Everyone has a say regardless of how right or wrong they may be. That is why we are seen as quarrelsome because everyone expects to be heard. One of the main differences between Igbo culture and many others in Nigeria is that we will talk things out until eternity because most of us abhor violence. So even when we insult and shout at the top of our lungs we'll shake hands, hug it out and drive home. Whereas in other places there isn't much talking being done. It's all action. Things escalate so much quicker. That's why a lot of times it may seem as though people are "chest beaters" or "cowards" due to loud talk but what may come across as no action. Violence is a last ditch resort unless it's coming from military men or thugs. Moving forward try not to get offended when you read or hear harsh grammar being strewn. Instead, engage head on and prove your point of view. So in this instance he is voicing his opinion, he may or may not be trying to offend anyone as much as start a discussion. If you think he is incorrect then show him why he is incorrect. For Igbo men, everything has to be proven rather than just spoken & believed. This is only my attempt to bridge the gap between family members in dysfunctional situation. I hope this comes across properly. Peace. |
