The reason I want my GP to boost was because of employment opportunity in the future. I can make a good and fine impression if called for an interview in person but the grade on my certificate would reduce my chances of getting the job.

I was smart in high school. I had good grades in Jamb. The course I was given by the school to study wasn't the one I wished or wanted. I had no option but to take the offer or else I would have to wait another year before I gained admission. It's not like I was impatient but time was of the essence.

I wrote my 100 level exams like every other exams I've written in the past but was surprised by my failure in most of the courses. I thought I would do better and make up for it in 200 level but yet history repeated itself.

I was quite unserious afterwards because we had a long 'holiday' ranging from covid to academic staffs strike. I didn't spend those 'free' months at home reading. I was 'hustling' (cyber crime). I needed money. I'm from an average family. There were times when things where hard and I was pressured to look for jobs students could do. (Pump attendant) I even carry concrete and blocks. Now, there's a high possibility that I would get a job after I graduate but my GP.. is giving me depression.

My parents dont know how I am progressing academically. I was brilliant in secondary school so, they must have thought I was good in the University too. They're excited I will be getting a job after I graduate but I'm not and I cannot tell them about my failures. It'll ruin my relationship with them.

Nothing will make my ma happy if she finds out. Even if I start all over again in a new school, the pain will still be there, because of the time I have wasted. They look forward to me helping them financially after schooling which of course is a norm but, see my life. If I could pay some money to boost my GP, I would have done that but I cant because my school is strict to the core.

I empathize with your struggles. Only until 3 days ago did someone offer me the proper word for your situation. 'black tax'. You should look it up.

Coming back to the matter at hand, inevitably everyone will know. Unless you think suicide will be the solution to your challenge. All of the challenges mentioned are not new to me. I have lived them all and I have the scars to show.

Time reveals everything and the fear of time unravelling your struggles is currently the root of your worries. No man is an island. Society has settled in pushing parental responsibilities onto the shoulders of kids even before they are ready. I won't dwell too much on that as it is outside our scope of discussion at present.

However you must brace yourself for impact. Nobody cares enough to listen to pity stories. We all have pity stories.

If you haven't already, you should start calculating your CGP and available units up to final year, to know the odds of having an extension. This i forsee may be the hardest pill to swallow for now. In hindsight it may yet be silver lining in your grey cloud.

Unfortunately, there isn't any other way seeing as you don't have the means. Brace up mentally. Those who you may depend on, may turn on you and be the greatest critics of your abilities. But man, know thyself. Trust in your abilities.

I understand disappointment of your early results may have caused mental hindrance to your willingness to study. However, now is the time to study as if your life depends on it.

Too bad if you have to combine studies with side hustles. It's part of black tax. You think you have it bad now? Wait till you get a job and start earning income.

For now, concentrate all your will and abilities towards getting high grades one course at a time. Start aiming for nothing less than B in every course. A is not an impossible grade. But to achieve this, you must work hard and purposefully burn the midnight candle.

From personal experience, coming to the realization of your failures is the first step towards turning your situation around. Depending on how weak your CGP is, you may even require extension(s). Do not be discouraged. Life is not a race. However you must commit to putting your best foot forward. Attending all lectures (including carryover classes) without shame. Read like your life depends on it. While I am not guaranteeing you will eventually graduate with a superlative grade, however you may yet salvage your future.

Years from now, what will hurt you most won't be the low grade you graduated with, but knowledge that you could've done better if only you had put in more effort. That shit will forever cloud your thoughts. Following you everywhere and to every interview like a monkey on your back.

While education as it is presently formulated isn't a test of intelligence, however certificates (and by extension cgpa) are a reflection of an individual's work ethic and ability to work under pressure. Skills that you will be judged on by prospective employers prima facie, before you even have opportunity to be called in for interview for chance to make an impression.

Regardless how far down the wrong path you may have walked, realizing you're lost and turning back on the right path is the first step towards arriving your destination.

It won't be easy. Especially if you're shy or depend highly on the opinions of others. Do not consider yourself a failure. A fish judged on its ability to climb a tree, will forever be unfit for the task. It doesn't mean the fish is worthless.

According to the Information gathered by myschoolnews, A Twitter user (JudesonAlex) shared video evidence showing how the institution locked the University's Main Gate, reacting to the news, The Lagos State University mgt has released a press statement;

PRESS RELEASE SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT: LASU DID NOT DISENFRANCHISE ELIGIBLE VOTERS DURING SATURDAY 25TH FEBRUARY GENERAL ELECTIONS



The attention of the Lagos State University Management has been drawn to viral reports on social media to the effect that several individuals who came to the University Main Campus, Ojo, to exercise their franchise in the 2023 General Election of Saturday, 25th February 2023 were prevented from gaining entrance into the university campus where the polling unit is situated.

We wish to disclaim this report and state categorically that it is both inaccurate and malicious, and aimed at bringing the name of the university to disrepute by some members of the public.

Against this background, we wish to place on record as follows, that:

i. the university is currently on a break from all academic and administrative activities in line with the ministerial directive on the closure of institutions for the 2023 General Elections;

ii. due to the closure, and in view of security considerations, the University main gates have been placed under lock and key since Thursday, 23rd February 2023 and only the pedestrian gates are open to allow people with genuine business on the campus entry;

iii. as of the morning of Saturday, 25th February 2023 when the election was to hold, the university authority was yet to be communicated by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission on the exact location of the polling unit in the vast university compound;

iv. several voters who arrived early gained entrance into the university but because there was no information on the exact Polling Unit location, they were left loitering around the campus, which in itself was a security concern;

v. against this background, the security department was directed to shut the pedestrian gate until the INEC officials arrive at the campus and decide on the location of the Polling Unit. This explanation was made to those at the gate at the time;

vi. The INEC officials did not arrive until around 10 a.m., after which they decided on the location of the Polling Unit. It was apparently during this period that several videos were taken and made to go viral;

vii. as soon as the location was decided, the gate was open and all eligible voters were allowed into the campus and to the polling unit without any restriction;

viii. polling has since been held peacefully at the campus and results have been counted and announced.

It is imperative to note that Lagos State University did not shut its gates against some voters as being purported. The University has, in fact, been at the forefront of encouraging and educating members of the university community and the general to exercise their franchise, as evident on her social media platforms. In the pursuit of this:

i. the University facilitated the conduct of the Voters Registration Exercise at several locations on the campus and both members of the university community and the surrounding communities were allowed to participate in the exercise;

ii. using several platforms, the university has consistently encouraged voters to turn out and vote in the 2023 General Elections and indeed other elections.

It is therefore unkind and indeed very malicious for some individuals to attempt to give the institution a bad name for reasons best known to them.
