Politics / Re: Succour For Motorists As Lagos-Badagry Expressway Repair Work Begins Monday by lozanni(m): 1:34am On Aug 26 |
cunny88: Flooding and poor drainage is causing destruction of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. This happened at the Orile end of the Expressway inwards, at Alafia Bus Stop (though this has been repaired),Durbar Hotel Junction etc. This is also likely to happen at the other side of the Expressway at Mile 2 on the way to Orile as it also experiences severe flooding. The Government should take a wholistic look at the entire drainage system of the Expressway. 1 Like |

Good effort by the Governor. I hope he can complete the road as per the timeline promised as this will give his administration many accolades from the citizens. The Lagos state end of that Expressway (From Alagbado to Abule Egba, Ahmadiyya, Meiran, Alakuko, to Sango Otta) is a very big eye sore and prone to flooding. I was in that Area in April 2024 and it was not pleasant to behold and experience travelling through there. I hope the Lagos State Government will keep their own promises about reconstructing the Expressway. 2 Likes |
Politics / Re: Nigeria’s Highest Oil Producing States - NUPRC by lozanni(m): 2:29pm On Aug 20 |
bobby007: Ondo might have more oil, but the East has the largest Gas deposits in the country with Imo State accounting for about 50% of this. Nigeria has the 8th largest Gas deposits in the world and with our oil expected to last for about 50 more years, unless new reserves are discovered, you can then guess where the future of the Nigerian economy lies. |

Its a very good judicial pronouncement by the Supreme Court; I hope the Elected Local Government Chairman and Councilors will keep faith with the people at the grassroots to ensure the much needed infrastructural and socio-economic development of those areas. |
Business / Re: Real Reason GSK Left Nigeria After 51 Years by lozanni(m): 2:49pm On Jul 04 |
From the article, it's can be said that GSK took the divestment decision from Nigeria and other African countries for the purpose of increasing its profit margin to the detriment of Nigerian patients, especially those suffering from the Asthma ailment. It is worrisome that over the years, our Pharmaceutical companies did not rise to the challenge to produce their own versions of Asthma reliving inhalers and antibiotics ((Augumentine is currently about N30,000 a bottle) which would have countered the excessive profit motive of the foreign pharmaceutical companies. The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), the private Nigerian Pharmaceutical firms and the Federal Government should meet and take cogent decisions that will enable the speedy production of high quality alternatives to those of foreign firms; this can be achieved through the provision of support to the local Pharmaceutical firms by the Government as this might save many lives in the end. |

Travel / Re: UK People Are Miserable, Nigerians Are 'happy' by lozanni(m): 3:45pm On Apr 04 |
@Ops, you truly hit the nail on the head. I have often said to others that, happiness or joy, is a state of the human mind and is NOT dependent on external situations or circumstances. In the midst of galloping inflation and uncertainty, unsteady power supply and insecurity, Nigerians have always found ways to give them joy and gladness; its little wonder that we were once termed the happiest people in the World. The British weather alone is enough to dampen the morale of Britons, coupled with the strangulating high rate of taxation, credit card debts etc. I guess humans cannot have it all. |

Zico5: I will not exchange words with an uncouth fellow like you. Mere arguments, you immediately descend to your primordial nature. I have medical friends who attended OAU and they told me about admission policy for medical students at the university at that time; its possible that things have changed over time at the institution. I will like to know which higher institution you attended. 3 Likes |
Education / Re: 2022 Medical Students Intake By Geopolitical Zone by lozanni(m): 10:58pm On Mar 26 |
Zico5: All you have written is based on hearsay. I know UNN, like OAU, admits a lot of medical students, but use the 2nd MB exams to weed the number to those who truly deserve to study medicine and surgery. Also, standards were also very high back then when I was at UNN as I knew some medical students who had to change to other courses of study as they could not pass the 2nd MB exams, even though they had parents who were lecturers in the Medical faculty. So what you are saying about getting admitted with a score of 200 to study medicine at UNN is an absolute fallacy. UNN graduates call themselves Lions and Lionesses because they know the worth of certificates they were awarded and this cannot be rubbished by unsubstantiated allegations of tale bearers. 11 Likes |

The pictures look like those of the high rise towers at the beginning of Bishop Aboyade Cole Street Victoria Island, when coming from the Ahmadu Bello Way. If the above is true, it means the highway will intersect the Akin Adesola Road and continue to the Lekki Coastal Road using bridges to cross the Kuramo water etc. The above might just be speculations, but let us wait and see how it develops. 3 Likes |
Health / Re: Meningitis Kills 20 In Yobe - Commissioner by lozanni(m): 9:38pm On Feb 27 |
Its sad to know that the disease has claimed 20 lives; however, I do not believe that its from God. Meningitis is normally very rampant during the dry season when weather conditions are usually very hot and stuffy. A vaccine to combat the ailment is available and the state government should have administered it to students during this very hot weather to avert the outbreak of the disease. I hope that next year, states like Yobe, Borno and others which are known to be very hot during the dry season will take preemptive measures to avoid a similar outbreak like this one. |

Car Talk / Re: How Much Do You Spend On Car Fuel Weekly by lozanni(m): 3:53pm On Feb 05 |
Dantepet5000: Most Lagosians living on the mainland, but work on the Island spend, on the average, 30k per week as fueling costs. Many have resorted to leaving their rides at home and joining the blue rail line which is faster and can reduce commuting costs to about 10k per week. Also, many are on the Gotv package now where they go for the cheaper packages of between 3k to 6k per month. Many who are on NEPA's prepaid meter billing system are also cost conscious now as they don't leave the lights in unoccupied rooms on and have changed their bulbs to low energy bulb, use more recent electrical appliances, refrigerators and Air conditioners, that consume less power. For those still on estimated billing system, sorry is your second name. Also Generators, when used, are usually on between 8pm to 11pm to allow children do their homework and other chores, listen to the news and also cool stored soup and stew in the refrigerator so that the do not go sour when NEPA disappoints. The above, and many more, are strategies the working class are using to cope with the tough times. 4 Likes 1 Share |
Politics / Re: CJN Ariwoola Appoints Daughter As Judge, After Appointing Son & Nephew - Gazette by lozanni(m): 3:31pm On Feb 05 |
The Act governing the National Judicial Council(NJC) should urgently be reviewed as this is the body regulating the appointment, discipline and promotion of Judges in the country; it is therefore puzzling that the Chief Justice of the Federation (CJN) who is a Judicial officer himself, should be the head of the NJC. The above scenerio is like giving a hungary man a knife and placing him beside a low hanging coconut tree and later blaming him for helping himself to some fresh juicy nuts from among them. Many Nigerians who are grumbling about the above nepotistic appointments will do worse if they are in the CJN's shoes; so the the law governing the NJC needs to be changed, asap, to prevent such unmerited appointments in the future. |
Politics / Re: Tinubu Redefines Priorities, Goes Tough On Ministers’ Performance by lozanni(m): 11:19pm On Feb 04 |
Basicend: I agree with your submission that the stabilisation of the value of the naira is of utmost importance, because if the value of the naira keeps falling against the dollar, then refined product prices will keep rising steadily since they are imported using dollars. The private polling firms that conducted polls about the popularity of Presidential aspirants in the country last year can help conduct polls on the popularity of the present Government and its policies among the populace of the country. |
Politics / Re: Petrol Prices To Fall Over Refineries’ Take Off, Says Cardoso by lozanni(m): 6:07pm On Jan 24 |
matify83: I don't think the Federal Government should sell crude at international prices to Dangote Refinery because it is for domestic consumption. It's being said that average cost of production of a barrel of crude oil in Nigeria is about $35; so if the Government adds a profit of $20 and sells it to Dangote Refinery at $55(current international price per barrel is hovering between $75 to $80) it's a win-win situation for the Government and the populace as the Government will still make some profit, while ensuring that fuel products gets to Nigerians at cheaper prices than we currently are paying. Such a move as above will push down the rate of inflation through lower transportation cost for commuters and goods and services, while conserving our foreign reserves as money will not be spent on importation of fuel products and other petrochemicals (which were once stated to make up to about 70% of our imports); finally it might lead to an appreciation of the value of the naira against the dollar and other currencies. 1 Like 1 Share |
