I noticed that their call centre was no longer answering calls; but their X handle (@MTN180) always comes to the rescue, though they might take some time to respond.

@Ops, you truly hit the nail on the head.

I have often said to others that, happiness or joy, is a state of the human mind and is NOT dependent on external situations or circumstances.

In the midst of galloping inflation and uncertainty, unsteady power supply and insecurity, Nigerians have always found ways to give them joy and gladness; its little wonder that we were once termed the happiest people in the World.

The British weather alone is enough to dampen the morale of Britons, coupled with the strangulating high rate of taxation, credit card debts etc.
I guess humans cannot have it all.

If u don't know anything, better keep OAU out of ur mouth. I am very conversant with OAU and they don't admit beyond their quoo ta. Even my nephew whom I sponsor through medical school just graduated from OAU last year. So better keep ur mouth shut if u don't have genuine things to say. U don't know the person u are arguing with. OAU don't admit beyond their quota.
I will not exchange words with an uncouth fellow like you. Mere arguments, you immediately descend to your primordial nature.

I have medical friends who attended OAU and they told me about admission policy for medical students at the university at that time; its possible that things have changed over time at the institution.

I will like to know which higher institution you attended.

Are u also counting over bloated number that UNN are admitting to study medicine? So u are counting the money induced numbers that UNN used to admit as part of the medical intake. The last I know, the number of quota for medicine there is less than 180, where did they come about 500 for medicine and 120 for dentistry. I learnt from some of their students that even with 200 in utme, u can gain admission to study medicine and dentistry so far u can pay. Even university of Ibadan with the highest quota don't admit as such. Let's see where MDCN come in.
All you have written is based on hearsay.
I know UNN, like OAU, admits a lot of medical students, but use the 2nd MB exams to weed the number to those who truly deserve to study medicine and surgery. Also, standards were also very high back then when I was at UNN as I knew some medical students who had to change to other courses of study as they could not pass the 2nd MB exams, even though they had parents who were lecturers in the Medical faculty.
So what you are saying about getting admitted with a score of 200 to study medicine at UNN is an absolute fallacy.
UNN graduates call themselves Lions and Lionesses because they know the worth of certificates they were awarded and this cannot be rubbished by unsubstantiated allegations of tale bearers.

The pictures look like those of the high rise towers at the beginning of Bishop Aboyade Cole Street Victoria Island, when coming from the Ahmadu Bello Way.
If the above is true, it means the highway will intersect the Akin Adesola Road and continue to the Lekki Coastal Road using bridges to cross the Kuramo water etc.
The above might just be speculations, but let us wait and see how it develops.

Its sad to know that the disease has claimed 20 lives; however, I do not believe that its from God.

Meningitis is normally very rampant during the dry season when weather conditions are usually very hot and stuffy.

A vaccine to combat the ailment is available and the state government should have administered it to students during this very hot weather to avert the outbreak of the disease.

I hope that next year, states like Yobe, Borno and others which are known to be very hot during the dry season will take preemptive measures to avoid a similar outbreak like this one.

I just calculated the amount I spend on fuel per week and its #15,000. Imagine. During Jonahs regime is was #5,000... I never even talk of generator fuel and cooking gas oh. See Nepa bill, dstv & other utilities....in this Nigeria we will soon understand why some people venture into crim
Most Lagosians living on the mainland, but work on the Island spend, on the average, 30k per week as fueling costs.
Many have resorted to leaving their rides at home and joining the blue rail line which is faster and can reduce commuting costs to about 10k per week.
Also, many are on the Gotv package now where they go for the cheaper packages of between 3k to 6k per month.
Many who are on NEPA's prepaid meter billing system are also cost conscious now as they don't leave the lights in unoccupied rooms on and have changed their bulbs to low energy bulb, use more recent electrical appliances, refrigerators and Air conditioners, that consume less power. For those still on estimated billing system, sorry is your second name.
Also Generators, when used, are usually on between 8pm to 11pm to allow children do their homework and other chores, listen to the news and also cool stored soup and stew in the refrigerator so that the do not go sour when NEPA disappoints.
The above, and many more, are strategies the working class are using to cope with the tough times.
PoliticsRe: CJN Ariwoola Appoints Daughter As Judge, After Appointing Son & Nephew - Gazette by lozanni(m): 3:31pm On Feb 05, 2024
The Act governing the National Judicial Council(NJC) should urgently be reviewed as this is the body regulating the appointment, discipline and promotion of Judges in the country; it is therefore puzzling that the Chief Justice of the Federation (CJN) who is a Judicial officer himself, should be the head of the NJC.

The above scenerio is like giving a hungary man a knife and placing him beside a low hanging coconut tree and later blaming him for helping himself to some fresh juicy nuts from among them.

Many Nigerians who are grumbling about the above nepotistic appointments will do worse if they are in the CJN's shoes; so the the law governing the NJC needs to be changed, asap, to prevent such unmerited appointments in the future.

Baba Jagaban.

If you had removed subsidy on Fuel and kept stabilizing the Naira value, Nigeria would have avoided what is besetting her now.

You are have been importing refined crude (PMS) at daily prevailing exchange rates which has been very high, and had to subsidize the price to the end-consumers at around #600 or so.

In effect, your govt kept paying so much subsidy on litres of imported PMS, coz Naira value kept dropping at a galloping rate. Concurrently, running back to still subsidize naira value, occasionally (at hazardous times).

That is why the govt is extremely gassed out, and broke now. It could hardly pay salaries of its workforce, while the masses are dying of stark hunger.

You need to wear a garment of strong sacrifice now, and forget about embezzlement (including your cabinet members and legislators) otherwise, the dryness on the ground (Nigeria) will be xtreemly mighty.

Focus on gaining value, and stability to the Naira. Be really to sacrifice indeed for Nigeria, perhaps there could be hope.
I agree with your submission that the stabilisation of the value of the naira is of utmost importance, because if the value of the naira keeps falling against the dollar, then refined product prices will keep rising steadily since they are imported using dollars.
The private polling firms that conducted polls about the popularity of Presidential aspirants in the country last year can help conduct polls on the popularity of the present Government and its policies among the populace of the country.
PoliticsRe: Petrol Prices To Fall Over Refineries’ Take Off, Says Cardoso by lozanni(m): 6:07pm On Jan 24, 2024
matify83:
Hmmm!

The over reliance on the Dangote refinery as a panacea to solving all our economic woes is pedestrian.

For one Dangote who is buying crude at international dollar denominated price is going to be selling refined products at cost reflective rate which may end up being at par with what obtains currently.
We are more guaranteed of products availability than lower prices when the product hit the market.
I don't think the Federal Government should sell crude at international prices to Dangote Refinery because it is for domestic consumption.

It's being said that average cost of production of a barrel of crude oil in Nigeria is about $35; so if the Government adds a profit of $20 and sells it to Dangote Refinery at $55(current international price per barrel is hovering between $75 to $80) it's a win-win situation for the Government and the populace as the Government will still make some profit, while ensuring that fuel products gets to Nigerians at cheaper prices than we currently are paying.

Such a move as above will push down the rate of inflation through lower transportation cost for commuters and goods and services, while conserving our foreign reserves as money will not be spent on importation of fuel products and other petrochemicals (which were once stated to make up to about 70% of our imports); finally it might lead to an appreciation of the value of the naira against the dollar and other currencies.

Egypt just played a 2-2 draw with Mozambique who were leading them by 2-1 before Egypt equalized late into the extra time.
Eagles tried a bit, given the haphazard nature of their preparation, and injuries, before the tournament.

In their next match against Cote d'ivoire, they must just learn to be very clinical in front of goal, while coming up with tactics to cage their talented strikers.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Note To Those Working In Lagos. by lozanni(m): 2:17pm On Dec 08, 2023
Lagos can turn you into an aggressive person; I remember once punching a conductor (I was a young graduate at that time)because he refused to give me my change. It was only when I got to the office, that I asked myself if punching the conductor was the right thing to do as he and the driver could have teamed up to fight me.

On another occasion, our conductor got into a fight with a bus stop tout who was demanding the normal loading fees because the conductor picked someone at their bus stop. It degenerated into a fight between the tout and the conductor with both of them stripping themselves stark naked in a no holds bar street fight. I got down from the bus and took another bus immediately to avoid continuing to witness the bizarre fight.

Once chance robbers obtained my phone once in a bus etc.

There are numerous tales to tell, but all in all, Lagos is a bubbling city which many people who have experienced find it difficult to live elsewhere

I am 6'3 in height and I am 19 yrs of age. I usually feel too tall when I walk around my age mates and what makes me feel insecure the most is when people start saying that I am long.

Tall people out there, how do you survive? I also hate it when people stare at my height when I am walking in the street because I am the kind of person that likes being conspicuous and unseen.

At times I just wish I wasn't so tall, so I would like to know at what age does one stop growing in height?
How is the Air up there 😄
Just kidding.

Its normal for teenagers to feel self conscious and awkward about themselves, whether they are tall or of average height.

You are in the above phase, but as you grow into adulthood, you will become more comfortable with yourself and your physique.

Even if you are slender now, don't worry about it as you will definitely add weight and look more handsome once you are working and taking good care of yourself.

I remember how I was the butt of jokes among my sisters when I was still at the University back then as I was quite slender; now when I look back at those university pictures, I can't help laughing as I have really added flesh in the right places and looking better for it.
TravelRe: Passengers Groan As Return Air Tickets Climb N500,000 On Monopoly Routes by lozanni(m): 1:24pm On Dec 08, 2023
The air fares are certainly high and this may be due to the reasons below:

1. Lack of effective competitors thereby creating a market of oligopolists (few sellers and many buyers).

2. Lack of passenger volume on the return trips back to Lagos from the South East(SE) and the South South(SS) as the passenger traffic is usually one way during the festive period.
The Airlines will have to burn Aviation fuel and other expenses on the empty flights back to Lagos and Abuja, so they will definitely factor these into air fares on the fully booked flights to the SE , SW & SS from Lagos or Abuja.

3. Alternative safe transportation mode to the SE, SS & SW from Abuja or Lagos.
There is no doubt that the provision of modern and efficient rail services from Lagos or Abuja to the SE, SS and SW
will check the high prices of air fares during the festive periods and at other times.
The ball is in the court of the Federal Government, the Southern Governors Forum and the Organized Private Sector ( OPS) to come together to create the needed rail services as it's likely this will be very viable in transporting passengers and goods across the entire breadth of the South.

PoliticsRe: Ownership Of Lagos; Balogun Of Eko Abisoye Oshodi Responds To Oba Of Benin by lozanni(m): 3:38pm On Nov 28, 2023
From previous readings I have made, Lagos belongs to the Aworis who originally migrated from Ile Ife.
However, along the line the Aworis faced wars from different groups like the Egbas etc and therefore invited the Benin Kingdom to come to their aid.
The Benin warriors settled in Eko (Eko means war camp in Benin Language).
The Benin Kingdom then established other war camps to ward off invaders from attacking Lagos Island and the mainlands.
There were war camps at Oshodi (read about or watch the 1897 invasion of the Benin Kingdom and you will find out that Oshodi was the Generalissimo of the Benin Kingdom), Ojota (The shooting range), Obanikoro and Bazuaye (now called Bajulaiye in Shomolu).

The current Oba of Lagos, Oba Akiolu has stated in the past that the first Oba of Lagos was originally from the Benin Kingdom ( Google this to read more about it)

Thus, the correct position, I think, should be that the Aworis founded Lagos, but the linage of the current Oba of Lagos is from the Benin Kingdom.

Note: I am neither an Awori indigene or from Benin Edo state.
FamilyRe: How Do You Handle A Promiscuous Sister? by lozanni(m): 12:01pm On Nov 26, 2023
She is in that experimental phase where some ladies want to experience life to the fullest, usually between 18 and 24 years, before they settle down in marriage; although it seems her own is excessive.

It might be a Spiritual problem which can be solved through church deliverance.

It could be an emotional problem too because some rich kids suffer neglect from their parents as they are never around, gallivanting from one country to another on business trips or for leisure,to offer comfort and love to the child when she needs it and so she craves love and acceptance in a very wrong way by sleeping around thinking that will make her likable or socially accepted; I have come across a real life situation like this.

A lady with such lifestyle will turn out to be notorious and not popular or likable as she might later realise.

I had to go somewhere private to cross check and it turned out to be true ! I was so surprised as I had not noticed it before.

Also, as a kid, there is a sudden movement that I will make and she will question my motive and most often she will guess correctly what mischief I was up to 😊

God bless Momsie's Soul 🙏🏽
