The All Progressive Congress (APC), has said that if given a chance at the central government, it will grow Nigeria’s daily crude oil production to 4 million barrels per day (mbpd) by 2019.

The party stated this at a town hall meeting organised by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) to discuss the policy documents of two leading political parties in the forthcoming general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP and APC).

The APC by its plan, promised to grow Nigeria’s crude oil production from the current average of 2.2mbpd to 4mbpd within four years.
It additionally said that it would grow Nigeria’s revenue from crude oil production to $50 billion from its current level and in the process, completely eliminate gas flaring within two years, which is by 2017.

The Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in a lengthy presentation at the town hall meeting which was also meant to set an adoptable agenda for the development of Nigeria’s petroleum industry, explained that if the APC was elected, it would also augment gas supply to Nigeria’s power sector by 500 million standard cubic feet per day (mscuf) by 2019, about double of what the country’s power sector gets from the domestic gas supply agenda of the federal government.

“We will increase government revenue from its current $30 billion per annum to $50 billion per annum within four years through a proactive measure without losing the attractiveness of the sector,” Mohammed said in reeling out the plans of the party for the sector.

He noted that an APC led federal government would also open up the sector to ensure accountability both within the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and all other government agencies in the sector, adding that with considerable look on the recommendation of the Oil and Gas Industry Committee (OGIC) 2001, upon which the PDP led federal government was planning its reform of the country’s petroleum sector, it would push for greater reform in the sector.

Within such reform and with regards to the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) which has remained in limbo for long now, Mohammed noted that APC would split the PIB into parts to make it easier for passage, adding that the PIB as currently constituted was complex.
He said: “PIB as it is, is currently complex. We will split the PIB into separate parts and submit them to the National Assembly to pass into law.”

He explained that investments in the country's upstream and marginal oil fields would be pursued by the APC, with regards to redefining the Production Sharing Contract (PSC) regime as currently observed.

APC, he said, would ensure that the government negotiated viable and profitable PSC arrangements with interested operators and at the same time, ensure that the financial burden of developing acreages was shifted from the government to private operators.

But the PDP, which was represented by one of its officials at the town hall meeting, Dr. Katchy Onunuju, said that it won't spend time repeating what the APC chieftain said as the party was only trying to reinvent most of what it was already doing in the country’s petroleum sector.

Onunuju picked holes at APC's plan for the entire petroleum sector, saying that the party's preference for foreign investors in the sector as against PDP's embrace of local investors was against the interests of Nigerians.

He said: “APC is rephrasing what we are already doing. Crude oil presently constitutes just about 15 per cent of our Gross Domestic Product and what we have done is to expand it to allow it work for all Nigerians.

“We attempted to deregulate the downstream sector to allow Nigerians benefit from its attendant opportunities but the opposition galvanised Nigerians against us,
and in partnership with people that were benefiting from the ugly subsidy attempted to shut down the country.

“As stated by my brother, Mohammed in his position paper, APC wants to bring in private foreign investors to mine our oil and gas; we are saying, no, we want our people to mine and make use of the oil and gas that we have for our benefits.

“Why engage foreigners to do what our people can do. It is always a win-win when Nigerians are in charge of our oil and gas industry and that is what we are doing now. Let me tell you the truth that APC don't know; the Nigerian Civil War was not fought just for the unity of Nigeria but to gain access to the oil and gas resources and it is the same thing now with this election because we have said, no way, Nigerians should take ownership of their resources.”

PoliticsAMBODE/AGBAJE: Battle Royale In Lagos - Muyiwa Adetiba by LRNZH(op): 1:16am On Feb 07, 2015
Eight years ago, Jimi Agbaje ran a very impressive campaign when he first came into public consciousness and was contesting for the gubernatorial job in Lagos State. His jingles were catchy and his message resonated. He even had one jingle where he came dancing acrobatically to a melodious tune. It was full of verve. It was full of energy. Fashola in comparison led a dull, dour almost uninspiring campaign. At least, that was what it seemed like to me and I told my late friend who was handling his campaign ads that his man did not come across as a confident candidate.

https://www.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/ambode.gif

I wonder if the outcome would not have been different if Fashola was not the chosen of Tinubu whose hold on Lagos politics then was almost total. What a difference eight years make however; today very few people would regret the selection of Fashola. He has acquitted himself creditably and has also grown in stature. His eloquence, his competence, his grasp of issues make you feel proud you have him in your corner. He has also showed a genuine interest in improving the lot of the people and leaving Lagos a better place.

People who scoff and say all he had done was to plant a few flowers seem to have forgotten what Lagos was like 16 years ago. It was one giant ghetto! The roads were narrow and laced with craters; mountains of dirt stood everywhere and competed for space on the side roads especially during the rainy season when corn came out. The rainy season also meant that drains which had been blocked by dirt and illegal structures, ensured that floods stood on the roads a while longer.

Now, we enjoy wider road networks, cleaner environment and yes, cleaner air. The lightening of the streets and freeing of bottle necks on the roads meant a significant reduction in crime. Lagos had too many dark spots where crime festered and blossomed. Obalende was one; Oshodi was another. A lot has also been done to improve the infrastructure. Many will say Lagos is a better place today than it was eight years ago.

Another argument against Fashola is that he could have done better given the amount of money that accrues to the government monthly. Of course he could have done better and I am sure he would be the first to admit to that. But the nature of Nigerian politics which means many greedy mouths including those of his fiercest critics had to be fed regularly could be partly responsible. He might not have been the most prudent or the most focused of the governors but he rates high. He certainly was not the most profligate.

We should also give him and Tinubu credit for engineering the internally generated revenue that has made Lagos to be financially independent of the Federal purse. It would have been easy as was previously done, and as many of his colleagues still do, to sit back and await Federal allocation. One can only hope that one day soon, the Federal Government would take a cue from Lagos and stop relying on oil revenue alone.

My grouse with him though is that he could be elitist in his approach to problems of State. This sometimes made him brusque and distant to the challenges of the downtrodden. An example was his handling of the LASU issue. His goal was lofty and good universities cost money to run but he must not forget the poverty level in his State which though significantly higher than the national level, is still pretty dismal. The allegation that he over concentrated on urban roads could have some merit as well. Ize Iyamu in Oregun, the road where my office is, has not been touched by any government since I moved there some 25 years ago. Today, mechanics and illegal diesel sellers have crowded the once wide, industrial road. This road is less than a five minute drive to Alausa, the State’s seat of government.

All told, Fashola has raised the bar in governance and if Mr Jonathan had done the same at the Federal level he would not be resorting to ethnic and religious politics to stay in power today. His performance would have spoken for him. Fashola’s performance means Lagosians will not accept tokenism as governance any more. It will not be enough to build a few roads and a few schools and call them achievements as some state governors still do. This makes the task before Ambode/Agbaje more daunting. Both have run nice campaigns. I particularly like the one from Agbaje that says: ‘JK we know. JK we trust’.

I mean, who really knows Ambode outside the precincts of Alausa? Agbaje also seems more assured, more confident. To get a better, deeper feel however, I sent a text to a colleague who had just interviewed the two of them and asked him who was the better candidate? I’ll quote his answer verbatim. ‘Rhetorics…Agbaje. Better prepared…..Ambode. That says a lot.

On the issue of sponsorship, one is being sponsored by two former State Governors who left Lagos better than they met it and would want to continue a template. The other is sponsored by two former Federal appointees whose resume leave much to be desired. Who, as a voter will you choose as a godfather between Ogunlewe and Fashola; George and Tinubu? Finally, one is a candidate of PDP while the other is a candidate of APC. Again which of these two parties given the politics of Lagos will be a help to its candidate?

I am reminded of the gubernatorial election of 1979 when Chief Adeniran Ogunsanya of NPP contested against Alhaji Jakande of UPN. Ogunsanya was the more suave, more charismatic and more politically accomplished candidate and could have won easily if they were both independent candidates. But they were not. Ogunsanya was Zik’s associate while Jakande was Awo’s associate and there lay the difference. At a point, Ogunsanya had to cry out that he was not vying against Jakande alone but also against Awolowo, the leader of the Yoruba. Jakande as we all know won and performed creditably.

At the end of the day, your associates and the party you contest under always matter. I rest my case.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has fixed separate meetings with chairmen and secretaries of all registered political parties, and resident electoral commissioners [RECs] for Saturday to decide whether to go ahead with the general elections scheduled for February 14 and 28.

A statement Friday by Kayode Idowu, the spokesperson for the INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, said after the meetings, “the Commission will address a press conference to brief the nation on its decision with regard to whether or not the general elections will hold as currently scheduled.”

Mr. Jega had on Thursday briefed the National Council of States on the preparedness of the Commission to conduct the 2015 general elections.
He made a presentation titled “Preparations for the 2015 General Elections: Progress Report”.

The National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, and the nation’s services chiefs also briefed the Council on the current security situation in the North-East.

Mr. Jega told the Council that his commission was in a better position to conduct election at present compared to its state of preparedness for the 2011 election.
“Compared with the 2011 General Elections, for instance, our systems are definitely more robust. We believe that we are ready for the elections as planned,” Mr. Jega said.

PoliticsOHANAEZE: Why We Can’t Endorse Jonathan, Buhari by LRNZH(op): 6:26am On Feb 06, 2015
Barely 48 hours after the Chief Gary Igariwey-led apex Igbo socio - cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for the February 14 presidential election, another faction led by Chief Ralph Obioha has distanced itself from any endorsement, insisting that it would be counter-productive to commit Ndigbo to any form of blanket support.

They made it clear that they will not be endorsing either President Jonathan or his main challenger and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari for next week’s presidential election.

In a joint media briefing addressed by Obioha and Dr. Zed Chukwujama as chairman and secretary of the organisation’s Caretaker Committee respectively as well as Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, the chairman of the organisation’s Elders’ Council, the group asked Igbos at home and those residing in various parts of the country to vote according to their conscience.

They expressed dismay that until now, none of the two major presidential candidates including President Jonathan of the PDP and Buhari has entered into any form of agreement with Ndigbo on the four cardinal issues they have outlined.

The issues according to them include, security of lives and property of Ndigbo, infrastructural development in Igbo land, Reparation for atrocities and war crimes against Ndigbo at least at the level recommended in the Oputa Panel Report as well as what would become of Ndigbo after the tenure of the would-be president by 2019.

“Of the two candidates, only one sent a high level delegation to us and we told them that we must see the candidate himself because whatever agreements to be reached will be implemented by him, if he wins and becomes president. We have not seen the candidate as at this date. The other presidential candidate has not made any contact with the committee, which is the authentic legal organ of Ohaneze. If his believes in some other areas or persons to gather the Igbo nation into one basket, we can only wish them good luck.

“Where do the Igbos belong and what is their fate after the incumbency of whoever wins in 2015 election? President Jonathan has said it openly that after his second term, it will be the turn of the north. On the other hand, Buhari wins and desires to emulate Nelson Mandela and bows out after one term because of his age, it will be reasonable to expect another northerner to complete his term. Thereafter, he would want to exercise his constitutional right of second term, making 12 years, “ they noted.

In view of the situation on ground, the faction asked the Igbos to pray for God’s guidance on the day of election and vote according to their conscience advising them also to be vigilant before, during and after the polls.

They were also asked to make appropriate arrangements to save their lives, family and property, while appealing to the governors of the south-east to make contingency arrangements, separately and collectively to evacuate Igbo citizens who may be trapped in an area of violence in view of the ominous uncertainties that loom in the air.

A brave Chadian commander spoke in French, Hausa classical Arabic, Kanuri, Fulani, broken English, Chadian Arabic in the viral video while promising Boko Haram terrorists hell on earth in this video we obtained from Ndjamena, Chad.

English starts @ 04:28mins

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT5GRUtYIIE

The commander said:

“You put your filthy privates into 12 year old children and say Allahu Akbar; you have no religion, this is not the way of fighting for Allah, you are ordinary thieves, you break criminals out of prison and you rob and you steal and claim to be Muslims or followers of prophet Mohammed (P)? No, you are not Muslims, you are unbelievers, your deeds are haram!

You have nothing to do with Islam!

You are mere thieves and criminals!

You claim you bring death and want it…

I promise you, you will get death, I will bring you death… it is only a matter of when and where. I will take sleep away from you!

I will bring you fire from the sky and on the ground!

I promise, I know where you are you cannot hide, this world is a mirror it shows all, I will find you, and I will bring you death.”

He spoke in no gentle words, many too harsh to be directly interpreted.

The commander additionally accused Kanuri people (the greater indigens and victims in Borno) of being cowardly and negligent for having not been able to fight and dismember Boko Haram.

*In the defense of the Kanuris, they (the Civilian-JTF) have fought bravely with dane guns and ordinary machetes however the very wicked Jonathan government refused their requests for the right to bear arms to really take the battle to Boko Haram.

The video was an unusual appearance as the Chadian army has just gotten involved in the Boko Haram war. Nigeria’s army generals and commanders have been muted, silent and have lacked motivation, hardly ever speaking to the public or to Boko Haram or ever speaking except when defending themselves or charging soldiers for mutiny.

After Nigeria’s government was unable to contain Boko Haram Chadian forces were chartered to assist and are now part of an African Union commitment of 7,500 troops to help curb the Boko Haram menace that has taken thousands of lives and destroyed millions in property mainly in Nigeria’s northeast.
