Emefiele is not in the league of Soludo and Sanusi. The former CBN Gov's would have devised ingenious ways of withstanding the oil price shock. Emefiele's incompetence coupled with GEJ's corruption and non performance means the Naira is an orphaned currency. May 29th is too far to get rid of this nonsense of a govt. |

The Nigerian Senate has summoned the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Attahiru Jega, over the postponement of the country’s general elections. The Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba, raised the motion for Mr. Jega to be invited to explain why the general elections which were scheduled for February were postponed to March and April. Mr. Jega was also invited to show how cards readers would be used at the elections. The INEC chairman is expected to attend the session with the card readers to prove its efficiency to the lawmakers. Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress Senators questioned why Mr. Jega’s should be invited. They contended that the heads of the military should have been invited instead to explain why they would have been unable to provide security on the previous dates scheduled for the elections. One of the reasons Mr. Jega gave for postponing the elections was that the military said they will not provide security during the polls, as they would be more focused on combating the Boko Haram insurgency in the North East during that period. The APC senators also kicked against any possible postponement of the elections for a second time. The Minority Senate Leader, George Akume, during the briefing said he believed that the laws were manipulated. He said Ghana used the card readers, so why not Nigeria. He also pointed out that Pakistan, Mali and Iraq held elections while at war so Nigeria’s case should not be different especially with 100,000 troops in the Nigerian Army. “If Ghana and Kenya got it right using card readers, why can’t INEC do it? We believe this is a serious attempt and manipulation to undermine democracy,” Mr. Akume said. “The President himself has sworn to protect the country but they are doing this in their own selfish interest. “We know elections have been held in Mali, Pakistan and Iraq who are at war with themselves, so why will Nigeria be an exception? We have 100,000 troops, so why is it not possible to uphold the constitution? The time has passed when ballot boxes will be taken to rooms and tomorrow, we have senators, governors, etc.” The Senator representing Osun West, Babajide Omoworare, said card readers were only used for accreditation and not voting. The Senator representing Kwara Central, Bukola Saraki, said his major contribution would be for the security agencies to ensure that elections take place on the re-scheduled dates, March 28 and April 11. The Senator representing Gombe Central, Danjuma Goje, said he hoped the issue of card readers would not warrant another postponement. “Why the sudden issue of card readers?” he asked. “We are bothered because this might be a medium to postpone the election again for card readers that will eventually be used.” http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/177028-nigerian-senate-summons-jega-over-election-postponement.html |
I weep as well.... What did Nigeria do not to have leaders like this for a long spell? |

We are trying to get to the place now. It occurred just about ten minutes ago. Ambulances and security operatives are all rushing to the spot. The blasts occurred barely five days after a suicide bomber killed 8 persons and injured over 40 other traders in Biu market. This plan has failed even before the evil meeting started. From another mainstream media house, we get evidence of GEJ/PDP desperation. Let us expose these riggers abeg. |

ABUJA-THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP House of Representatives caucus Monday met to strategise on how to ensure that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC jettisons the use of a card reader in the forthcoming elections. Vanguard reliably gathered that PDP lawmakers who were invited by their leaders to design ways and means to ensure that the card reader described as an alien instrument was constitutional. Some of the lawmakers who spoke to Vanguard under the condition of anonymity said the card reader has not been tested in any part of the country and should not be tested with a major election like that of presidential and. National Assembly elections. They argued that its usage now may spell doom for the general elections if it finally fails at the wee hours of the election. A top ranking member of the House told Vanguard that ”using the card reader in an important election like this is dangerous as its veracity has not been ascertained. He explained further that ”another issue INEC must urgently look into is that of the card reader that has turned into another major source of concern”. “This is the first time the apex electoral body is using it and for a very sensitive election like that of the presidential election and that of the National Assembly it could spell doom if it suddenly packs up”. “If it fails what happens because it has not been tested in any part of Nigeria it would have been better if it is used to conduct a bye election not a major election like this one because it has not been properly verified”. The meeting which was held in a major hotel in Apo axis of Abuja was well attended by PDP lawmakers. As at the time of filing this report the meeting was still on-going. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/02/pdp-caucus-secret-meeting-inec-card-reader/#sthash.Iknfj6ZZ.dpuf |
agabaI23:Lool you make me laugh. You that used to post loads of porn in romance section (not kidding...check agabai23 previous threads) is now feeling like a relevant political analyst. These are the kind of people Barcanista wants to be associated with. SMH |
Immaturity on display again. As much as everyone is entitled to hold, and free to air his/her opinion, it does not make any one of us beyond reproach. Just because one is a recognised Progressive does not mean we will let the person go off on an erratic tangent and ignore him/her. Barcanista's recent utterances about the election postponement and the missing NNPC $20Billion have lacked prerequisite logic to be considered of progressive hue. Hence he has been called to order by fellow Progressives which is the proper thing to do. Barca's 'propaganda' post or this one would not have elicited a response from Progressives in the house if we did not care about his position and the influence it may have. A lot of people correcting and chastising you- Barca was an opportunity for you to reflect if your opinion truly merited the grandstanding that you have just taken. Your choice is your prerogative but never feel you are beyond reproach from people you consider friends and comrades. By the way, e-APC's perceived antagonism is not enough to change your eventual vote and campaigns for GMB whom you have ardently believed in as shown in your numerous and popular posts here on NL. Progressives have been of superior logic so far (that's why you have been one), but you have chosen to abandon that for an inferior emotion-driven TANoid state of mind. If indeed, material gains are not your motivation, there is still time to retrace your steps. Goodluck in your endeavors but remember it is not too late to apply wisdom. |
They need the money to prosecute more rigging plans. PDP can not leave its crooked ways. GMB will probe the sale and reverse it or jail anyone that siphons the sale's proceed. Nigeria Sai Buhari |
Why don't DHQ carry out meaningful airstrikes on BH that has killed over 10,000 Nigerians first? |
GEJ is making less friends everywhere.... |

Segeggs:This is a better option for GEJ than the Interim National Govt idea they are mooting. A soft landing for GEJ and his cronies if they will expose all the corrupt loopholes PDP has been fattening on.The Gbagbo option will be too bad for GEJ, Diezani, Okupe and others. Wisdom beckons. APC and GMB should look into this proposal for its merits. It is the peaceful way out of a dicey situation especially with a dimwit like GEJ who is unpredictable and can unwittingly sink the whole ship for a dumb reason. |
https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Buhari-and-Jonathan-360x225.jpg The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential candidate, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and his All Progressives Congress counterpart, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) may meet before the March 28 presidential elections. |
I was going to take Barcanista head on as I have on other threads in the past even though we are all supposedly for CHANGE, but I have seen prior posts and you guys have done severe justice to the matter at hand. Barca while entitled to his opinions, sometimes appears to be either naive from living abroad (quoting constitution as if it has not being circumvented before) or is a mole (a PDP wolf among APC sheep). I remember the same barca opened a thread quoting how Feb 14 elections were impossible to shift based on the constitution, that he still holds his original views about GEJ's govt after that shift is not acknowledging the reality on ground. He also blamed Jega for the poll shift knowing fully well that Jega would be foolhardy to conduct any elections under the circumstances the military put him under. There's no smoke without fire. Barca may have been compromised. |
Chai... Jokerman's thesis finally found. |
Idokojimmy:Are you an Oyi? If yes you should be ashamed o supporting a party that has never brought your people development. Just saying. |
Chigold101:You have left your brain behind by thinking that GEJ thinks like a normal intelligent human being. Go back and read the article again. Diezani wants anything but GMB in power so she can live free with her crimes. Under an ING GMB may even be stopped from contesting and no one will blame GEJ. Next time practise what you preach. |
EFCC boss under who? GEJ? Hehe. Are you a dreamer? GEJ has starved EFCC of funds since 2010. GEJ is Mr. Corruption himself. GMB will have to take out GEJ first and it is easier through the polls. I hope you learnt something today. |

omenka:PDP's handwriting is all over the Gombe BH attacks. All in a bid to postpone the March 28 polls through scaremongering. But this will be their undoing. |
francizy:Well on March 28 (if PDP/Military allows us), they are the two realistic options and you have to make a choice. If you abstain, you are unwittingly supporting the incumbent. Be pragmatic. |
suwailad:HEWO.... faints...

suwailad:GBAM! TKO

Keneking:Was that intentional? |
camplenigeria:As 'battered' as GMB is GEJ leaves us with no choice but to vote him out. GMB will definitely deal with corruption and insecurity which are our biggest problems today as a nation. |
