Music/Radio / I'll Never Stop Singing Dirty Songs -saint Janet by luckgood(m): 2:22pm On Mar 23, 2013
To Omotoyosi Kayode Iyun, popularly known as Saint Janet, singing vulgar lyrics in Yoruba and the controversies that come with doing so have become a part of her life, as she reveals in this interview with 'Nonye Ben-Nwankwo

You always perform every weekend. How do you cope with the home front?

I can't really say how I cope. It is just the grace of God. It is not by my might. It didn't start today. I have been doing this kind of job right from the beginning.

When was the beginning?

It was 14 years ago. I have been in this business for a long time.

In these 14 years, have you never felt like quitting?

I enjoy what I'm doing. If I weren't enjoying myself, I would have felt like quitting. But since I am happy, that issue hasn't come up at all.

I learnt you were a chorister. Which church was that?

I'm a Christian. Anyway, I'm a member of a white garment church. I was a chorister in the white garment church I was attending.

So you moved from being a chorister to a highlife/juju singer.

I didn't really move like that. I was a back-up singer at first. I had a boss. His name is Los Kenge. He was very popular in Abeokuta. I spent about three years with him before I went solo.

Why did you go solo?

My master (boss) felt I was very okay. It got to a time both of us became the lead vocalists. Nobody could differentiate between us because we were doing same thing; so he decided it was time I went solo.

Why did you choose 'Saint Janet' as your stage name?

It was this same boss that gave me the name. Those days, I was and of course, I still am a very shy person. Then, whenever we weren't doing anything, I would just be on my own. I would sit quietly and not bother talking to anybody. People would be complaining because they knew I wasn't like that on stage. They would say I usually behave like a quiet person but would turn to another thing on the stage. My boss would tell them to leave his 'saint' alone. He would call me Saint Janet. So I decided to stick to the name when I left him.

But somebody who hasn't seen that quiet side of you might just conclude that you are very wild. Doesn't it bother you?

It doesn't bother me that much. It shows that I am very good at what I do. It means I am entertaining people greatly. I weigh my level in the industry with what people say about me.

You used to play in private parties alone...

Oh yes. But I now play at public gatherings as well. You cannot sing songs for a wedding at a burial. I know the songs I have to sing on different occasions. I know what to sing at different times.

But all your songs are lewd. You are basically known for singing lewd songs...

(cuts in) Not all my songs are vulgar. I know that more than 70 per cent of the people who have listened to me feel that way. But it is not true. I am talented. I am gifted. I am an all rounder. I give you what you want. There are some shows where you will not hear me sing lewd songs. It all depends on what the people want. I give them what they yearn. I do gospel as well.

You? A gospel singer?

(Laughs) Of course, I sing gospel songs. I know it is unbelievable, but there is no singer that will say he/she did not sing gospel at one time or the other. My case is not different. And like I said, people ask me to play the lewd songs, especially at private parties. They invite me especially because of such songs and I play such for them. I also play lewd songs at clubs. But I wouldn't really sing such at open parties.

You must have had many advances, especially before you got married...

Oh yes. I have my talent, I have the ability to sing. But what I sing is entirely different from my way of life. I am not a loose woman.

Can you allow your child to listen to your songs?

I can only allow him to listen to them when he comes of age. My baby is just four years old. I will not allow him to listen to it for now.

You are also known as the General Overseer of Sinners' Chapel, Saint Bottles Cathedral. Where did that come from?

My fans made me their GO. When I am about to start a show, I start with slow songs. My fans say I always put them in the mood to drink more. They said my songs make them to feel okay.

It was reported some time ago that one of your colleagues, Yinka Ayefele, said he was praying for you. How do you feel about that?

I have not heard about this. But I played for Yinka Ayefele two weeks ago. But if anybody is praying for me, I am grateful. So it makes me know that I am in business. If people don't like me, they will not pray for me. I am not offended.

Your CD was banned...

That was long time ago. I was able to weather the storm. But the banning of my CD made me popular. Now, virtually everybody knows Saint Janet. The same government officials that banned my songs listen to my music. I don't want to mention names but I play for them. They invite me to private parties and I perform there.

You haven't come up with another album yet?

My album will soon be ready. It is coming out very soon and I titled it 'Surprise'. I want people to sit back and ask themselves if this person is really Saint Janet. I want them to wonder how I was able to sing like this. That was why I titled it 'Surprise'.

It was rumoured that you caught your husband in bed with your daughter.

I say it again, there was nothing like that. It didn't happen. I don't want to talk about it again. I don't know who came up with that story. It was actually the reason I moved from where we were staying. But I ask, who is this daughter? I don't even have a daughter. I see it as the work of detractors. I felt so bad initially. But then, when the rumour was on, that was when I was getting a lot of invitations to come and perform. So I had to immerse myself in my work. I have put the detractors to shame.

Why did you get married to your manager?

(Laughs) He was never my manager. That was the story that was going on as well. My husband has his own studio. He plays the guitar. There is nothing bad in your partner assisting you once in a while. He was never my manager. He was never a member of my band. He is a sound engineer who has his own studio.

Does he complain about your lewd songs?

My husband doesn't complain at all. Back then when I would be performing, I would look back and he would give me a sign to ride on. He would see that people were enjoying the music, so he would encourage me to go ahead.

What of your parents, especially before you got married, were they in support of your kind of songs?

They said the same thing as my husband. They reasoned that if people out there were enjoying themselves and feeling happy because of my songs, who were they to stop me? They were okay. My parents were disciplinarians. My father was a school principal and my mother was a headmistress. But they know that people love me. Initially, they didn't support this, but they saw how people love me and they had to give their support.

Tell us how these lewd songs came about? What really gave you the boldness to sing like that?

I have been doing this with my boss. But when I started, I thought I would start with gospel songs. However, I decided to start with something more challenging. I wanted to do basically juju music. I wanted to perform like the male musicians. People used to commend me that I don't perform like a woman. So, when I realised that my boss' fans were like my fans, I decided to give them what my boss was giving them. And as we would be recording such shows, if it got to the point where I would need to start playing vulgar songs, I would tell my sound engineer to pause and not record that bit. But somebody noticed me and he came to me and told me that I should record that song for him because that was his best. And just like that, I realised that people really love it and I started doing it more. I don't have any regret. I know that people are criticising me because I am a woman. If I were a man, nobody would complain that I am singing obscene songs. But I was determined to sing like a man and I got it and I am not bothered.

Do you know that your songs do put the men, even women, in a sexual mood?

I know. But that is not bad. People tell me that when they are troubled, they play my CD to relieve tension. I think it is better to be in such a mood than to be worried and think about life.

Do you practise what you sing?

In this life, there are people who 'say and don't do' and there are people who 'do but don't say'. I am in the group of people who 'say but don't do'. I can only sing, but I don't practise what I sing. I told you that I am very shy in real life and that is not a lie. I am so reserved. I never knew I would get to this level that I am now. Many years ago, there was this album that I did, but the person who would have been the marketer (I don't want to mention his name), was asking for what I couldn't give him.

What was he asking for?

He was asking for sex before he could market my CD. But this is not the first time such is happening. It happens in every industry, including the film industry, and even the banking sector.

Why didn't you sleep with him? Would it have been a big deal?

Ha! I couldn't have. It couldn't have been because I sing vulgar songs that he suggested such. In fact, there was nothing lewd in that album. Immediately he asked for sex, I left his office without saying goodbye.

As much as you are known and appreciated by your fans, don't you feel bad that we are yet to see a younger person who wants to sing like Saint Janet...

Everybody wants to sing like me now. Initially, it wasn't like that. There was a time it was so bad because of the stories flying around me. But it has changed. People want to be like me. But then, I am not advertising sex. I am not calling on people to come and sing like me. I am not telling people to come and learn how to sing lewd lyrics. But when people see that somebody is doing great, they want to be like the person.

Do you have friends?

I have lots of them but I really don't go out much.

Can you tell us categorically the status of your marriage?

My marriage is intact. My marriage has not broken up. Detractors know how to ruin and tarnish peoples' images. They have their reward. As for me, I am doing what I know how to do best and I am getting the reward. I am okay. I may not be rich, but I am very comfortable. Let them continue.

Can there ever be a time when we will see a transformed Saint Janet who will never sing lewd songs again?

I don't think there will ever be such a time. In this world, we are all sinners. I am not the first person to sing this kind of songs.

People do see you as a lover of sex. Some even tagged you a lesbian at a point...

Oh yes, when I was in the UK, it was rumoured that I was sleeping with a popular female promoter. But I didn't know where she was staying. I got to know her through a friend of mine. There was nothing sexual in the relationship. It was the same way they said stuff about my husband. Such stories fly all the time. That is the cross I have to bear as a celebrity. Like I said, I don't have any regret that some people do criticise my songs. Even if I sing gospel, some people will still criticise. Some people out of jealousy and envy will always find something bad about my songs.

Do men still 'toast' you?

It is very normal. My uncle used to say that if men don't toast his wife, it means his wife is not sociable enough. Men ask me out a lot but I know myself. It is left for me to refuse or accept and I always refuse.

What if your husband wants you to stop singing lewd songs?

If he didn't want such songs, he would have stopped me long ago. But now, I am unstoppable

Romance / Evangelist Benny Hinn Remarries Ex-wife, Suzanne Years After Divorce (PHOTOS) by luckgood(m): 5:37pm On Mar 12, 2013
Popular Evangelist Benny Hinn and his ex-wife Suzanne divorced back in 2010 after Suzanne’s struggle with prescription medicine caused problem in their marriage.

The 60-year-old evangelist has remarried his ex-wife Suzanne in Orlando Florida.

The wedding took place on the 3rd of March, 2013 in the company of top ministers of God like Roy Harthern (Suzanne’s dad), Reinhard Bonnke and Jay Hartford.

The officiating ministers called their wedding a miracle after over two years of separation between them.

According to Reinhard Bonnke, the miracle of this remarriage was even greater than the miracle of any marriage.

Benny Hinn said nothing until the end of the ceremony when he prayed over his wife Suzanne as the visiting men of God crowded around.

Benny Hinn and Suzanne’ remarriage ceremony was a traditional one. It lasted for about 2 hours.

Their children and their spouses were their parents’ attendants.

The Hinns have 4 children and four grandchildren.

Few weeks to Benny Hinn and wife’ remarriage, below is what he shared with his audience about their reconciliation plan.

It all began at Christmas when we were together at Suzanne’s house in Orlando, Florida. Suzanne and I and all of our children and grandchildren were there. It was a beautiful day I will never forget, and that is when the Lord began to do His mighty work.

Suzanne and I want to thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for praying for us and our family. The Lord has surely answered your prayers! Suzanne and I are more in love with each other than ever before.

The covenant we made with God more than 30 years ago was never broken in His sight. Both of us believe our greatest days are ahead and the best is yet to come.

The last three years have been very painful for Suzanne and me and for the children—more painful than we can ever explain or describe. Suzanne and I will share much more with you in a future letter and soon on This Is Your Day.

Our marriage died for two reasons. One, I, Benny Hinn, was married to the ministry, not realizing it was killing my marriage. And two, Suzanne started taking certain prescription medications to help her cope with some of her personal struggles. She became dependent on those for nearly 15 years, and those medications made her behave erratically at times. As her husband, I did not know what kinds of medicine she was taking or realize what they were doing to her.

After the divorce, Suzanne, on her own accord, decided that she needed professional help to gain freedom from her chemical dependence and checked herself into the Betty Ford clinic in early 2010. And for three and a half months she underwent exhaustive treatment. Today she is totally set free from the need for these medications—she is completely whole—and for that I give the Lord Jesus the praise.

The truth of the matter is that Suzanne filed for divorce because she was crying out for help. The divorce most certainly woke me up, and the Lord used it to show me—as a man of God and as a man—that I cannot function properly without my wife and family.

Not only did our family suffer as a result, but the ministry also suffered greatly. Many partners walked away, not realizing or knowing what took place and why. But I believe that the Lord is restoring not just my family but also the ministry.

Because of our experience, God will do more with us in the future.

Celebrities / Queen Of England Is Hospitalised by luckgood(m): 7:55pm On Mar 03, 2013
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, suffering from gastroenteritis, was admitted to hospital on Sunday, a Buckingham Palace spokesman told AFP.

All the 86-year-old's engagements for this week, including a visit to Rome, have been called off, the spokesman added.

"The Queen is being assessed at King Edward VII's Hospital in London after experiencing symptoms of gastroenteritis. As a precaution, all official engagements this week will be either postponed or cancelled," he said.

Britain's head of state is known for her robust health and devotion to duty, and rarely misses engagements.

The sovereign first felt unwell on Friday and cancelled a visit Saturday to a military celebration in the city of Swansea to mark St. David's Day, the national day of Wales.

Instead of that engagement, she had been spending the weekend resting at Windsor Castle, west of London.

That she was taken to the royals' regular hospital in central London suggests that her condition was not serious enough to warrant going to a hospital close to Windsor.

Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip were due to visit Rome on Wednesday and Thursday, when they were to meet Italian President Giorgio Napolitano.

The monarch celebrated her diamond jubilee in 2012, marking her 60 years on the throne. This year further ceremonies will be held to mark the six decades since her coronation in 1953.

Romance / Facts: 12 Reasons Why Girls Don't Date Nice Guys by luckgood(m): 1:16pm On Mar 01, 2013
Women say they want a nice guy, yet usually end up dating bad boys. Here’s why.

1. Not real. Nice guys are too nice. No one can always be that nice unless they’re a saint. They are busy being nice instead of being real and women instinctually don’t trust that. Bad boys “keep it real.” Nice guys don’t want to upset the apple cart.

2. Respect. No one respects a doormat. Nice guys don’t set boundaries or make any real demands. A bad boy doesn’t let a woman walk all over him or control him. Women can’t respect a man they can control. No respect equals no attraction.

3. Predictable. Most people lead boring, predictable lives, so they’re attracted to people who are exciting and a bit unpredictable. Bad boys are always a challenge. Nice guys are never a challenge. Predictable plus no excitement plus no challenge equals I prefer a bad boy.

4. Mother Nature. Women are designed to nurture. However, instead of doing this with children, they often end up doing it with bad boys. They think their love will save them. Nice guys rarely need to be saved.

5. Fixer-upper. Nice guys don’t usually need to be fixed. Bad boys usually do, so they become a project. Women think if they can “create” the perfect man, he will never leave them. Also, if they’re busy fixing someone else, they don’t have to look at what needs to be fixed in their own lives.

6. Sperm wars. Women are designed to procreate with the strongest possible genes. Bad boys are sending an unconscious message that they have great genes, so they’re not afraid of losing the woman by misbehaving. Nice guys are sending a message that they don’t think their genes are good enough, so they won’t misbehave.

7. Fear of intimacy. If a woman is afraid of intimacy, she subconsciously knows she can avoid it with a bad boy, since she can never get close enough to him to have to go there. A nice guy will eventually want a commitment, and that’s scary.

8. Low self-esteem: We don’t feel comfortable with people who treat us better than we treat ourselves. If you don’t think much of yourself, the bad boy is simply reinforcing your negative belief. A nice guy is treating you in a way you’re not familiar with.

9. s*x. Women feel a nice guy won’t be good in bed. They sometimes like to be manhandled and think a nice guy won’t be able to take control and get the job done. A bad boy comes across as being able to deliver, even though that may not always be the case.

10. Hot. Have you ever seen a bad boy who wasn’t hot? I’m sure there are a few, but they wouldn’t be able to get away with half the stuff they did if they didn’t look so good. Meanwhile, when a woman describes someone as a nice guy, she means, “He’s not hot.”

11. Charm. Nice guys don’t always know what to say and are sometimes at a loss for words. Bad boys can be very charming and know exactly what women want to hear. However, they eventually switch over to being selfish. By the time they reveal their true colors, the woman has fallen for them and has a hard time letting go.

12. Protection. Historically, men have protected women — physically and otherwise. Bad boys give the illusion of being able to protect women, while with nice guys, women aren’t so sure. Life is about balance. Most men fall into either the bad boy or the nice guy category. The ideal man is neither, but walks that fine line between the two. Until men learn how to do this, more often than not, women will choose the bad boy, until they realize that his bad qualities outweigh his good ones.

Jobs/Vacancies / Tips On How To Get A Pay Rise by luckgood(m): 12:10pm On Feb 28, 2013
1. Set up a meeting with your boss

First of all make an appointment to have a chat with your boss. This is a much better approach than mentioning your pay rise request on the spur of the moment or in a casual setting. And it will also show that you're serious about your request.
2. List the things you do

Denise Taylor, author of 'How to get a job in a recession', advises employees to do some preparation and research before the meeting in order to achieve the best result.

“The research needs to include being clear on what you are doing in your job and also what other people earn for similar sorts of work,” she explains.

“When you first took on the job you probably took a few weeks to learn the job and as the months have gone by you have got better. Think about how things have changed and if you are doing more work or have you taken on extra tasks - such as doing a financial summary each week or taking on more managerial duties.

Go through and make a note of all the extra things you now do. You can then use this in your negotiation with your boss.”
3. Offer to take on more

If you’re not doing much above and beyond your job description, offer to do so. Ask whether you can take on more responsibility or mentor a junior member of staff to justify your request for a pay rise.
4. Know what you can ask for

So how much should you ask for? Don’t be afraid to start off with a high figure. Your boss is unlikely to agree straight away but may well meet you in the middle. If possible find out what colleagues doing the same job are earning or what rival companies are offering.

Websites such as benchmarkmypay.co.uk and totaljobs.com/salarychecker tell you the average salary for your role or profession.
5. Use other offers to negotiate

If you’ve been headhunted or have a job offer from a rival firm, don’t be afraid to use it as a negotiating tool. However, don’t threaten to leave if you don’t get more money unless you’re genuinely happy to move on.
6. Other perks

If your company can’t offer you more cash, ask for other benefits. These could be things like more annual leave, flexible working, gym membership or private health care.
7. Schedule in a pay review

Marielena Sabatier, chief executive of Inspiring Potential, a company that specialises in helping people reach their potential at work, says not to take the rejection personally if your request is turned down.

How to negotiate redundancy

“If you don't get a pay rise it could be for a number of reasons - there might be two or three others performing better than you are or the decision could be purely financial,” she says.

“The best way of handling rejection is to see it as an opportunity to learn and improve your skills. Be open to any feedback from your boss, in fact, ask for it so you have an opportunity to learn where you could improve - this is the secret of career development and to ensuring future promotions and pay rises."

If you've been turned down, also ensure you ask if you can have another pay review in a couple of months' time and in the meantime try to improve on any feedback you had from your boss.

Romance / Re: When A Man Is In Love by luckgood(m): 9:04am On Feb 24, 2013
mentorken05:
When a guy is in love, it's no simple thing.
Guys don't get butterflies, dey get
fireworks. He might not have you in his
mind 24/7, but he does have you in his
hearts. Often, yeah he waits for you to go
online, sometimes simply when he just sees that you're online, it makes his hearts skip a
beat, even if u don't end up talking.
Whenever you talk to him, his face forms that
half-smile; it means he is happy but is
trying his hardest not to show it and he fails
at hiding it. He does miss you all the time, granted, he'll spend all his time with you if
possible. He thinks of the smallest
things you say, panicking at every single
word, trying to define what it really means,
to read between the lines. But, wait.. there's
more.

He would love you a million ways. And once
He starts loving you, there is no going back
for us. No matter how hard he tries, he will
always love the girl that has truly touched
Him. Guys, when in love, will think of that
girl first thing in the morning, & think of that girl last before he sleeps at night.
Whenever he sees a couple, his thoughts
immediately jump to that girl, & imagine
that the couple was them. Every single detail
about her is loved; the way she walks, talks,
speaks. The sound of her voice. Her laughter. The sparkle in her eyes. Her shy
smile. The way she dresses. That cute face
she makes when she's asleep. & the way
she says his name that his hearts just
explode with mirth, a simple act that no one
else can replicate.

Though women stereotype guys to be
simple, a man in love is not simple. No, he
will be unpredictable. He will be persistent,
stubborn, & given the circumstances, if it
means carrying you from one side of the
world to the other to win your heart, a man in love would. He will be a martyr, giving his
all & asking for almost nothing in return. He
will show you how to appreciate the beauty
of the world in a thousand ways, & then he
will tell you how much he appreciates your
beauty in a million ways

This is what I currently have for my babe..I can even jump off the train for her. I am a Nigerian.
