Kashif:Very easy answer, BMW N20B20 (the 180kw version) Try again? |
Readonee35L:I quite understand engine sharing as it works towards increasing economies of scale. But that Toyota 2GR-FE 3.5 V6 that started life in the 05 Avalon has neither been updated nor changed till date. They only thing they did was add in DI for the lexus range of vehicles that use the engine. In the same time frame, BMW has steadily improved their 3.0 straight six, and even slapped a twin turbocharger in there. Counter argument - If it ain't broke don't fix it. |
Readonee35L:Everything Toyota makes that has a V6 (sans the trucks) shares that 11 year old V6 engine. Toyota has been using the same engine developed in 2004-2005 till date. Hey Toyota, how about creating a new engine? Maybe something with a turbo in it? Toyota doesn't innovate at all. I remember them using the same 4 speed auto transmission in the corolla up to the 2013 model year. How wont they be reliable when they keep using old things? |
comprende:I pick up at the office in wuse 2 and it's always a pain the butt. Maybe I'll give them one more try but chose the other office. |
comprende:Mall 4 Africa are the most useless pieces of poop ever. They call you to come for pickup and you spend an hour whilst they rummage through all the stuff looking for yours. Simple arrangement and organisation could go a long way with those people. |
Bossforeva:The panamera isn't going anywhere. Its quirky looks grow on you and i quite enjoy seeing them now. The next thing to go should, IMO be the Toyobaru twins and the Cadillac XTS |
I have looked ChinosXL up. In the brief perusal oof his thread, he mostly deals with lagos clients. He then passes off abuja orders to local carriers, which i really cant deal with after a very very very bad experience with them. |
Just read this on Jalopnik - http://jalopnik.com/dead-honda-crosstour-1696567853 The Honda Crosstour, one of the homeliest vehicles on the road and a sad substitute for the Accord Tourer that other markets get, is dead. Pour one out for the Crosstour tonight, if you feel so inclined. It all started off with the Acura So-Ugly-I-Forget-its-Name, then the Venza was called into the great Automotive I can already hear the screams of several Nigerians who loved the ugly misshapen Wagonoid. I for one am pleased that that craze seems to be dying off. Shout off in the comments below if you are dismayed or happy that its gone. |
CityNG, I was just browsing, Minding my business when i saw your beauty above, I did some more browsing then i saw this beauty. http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/618429286/overview/#1 All of a sudden my E46 looks like a Tonka toy and im going with the wild idea of owning one of these. Despite all our local mechanics not knowing what to do when faced with a BMW V8, I want/need this car in my life. From your experience, what do i need to look out for? What are the common day to day issues one might experience with these cars. I have read about Vanos issues, Low batttery issues, Electrical Gremlins but i would appreciate an individual review from you. i do not wrench myself but with the right direction, I could get 'Kazeem' to wrench for me and under my supervision if something goes wrong. Ownership review please. |
lomomike:In fact, lomomike, I am against all these accident threads, it's distasteful. I avoid the first page and any pictures which could upset me. But for the sake of people who may have lost their lives and their families,, let's refrain from threads like these. They need to be stopped. This is a car talk section. Talking about accidents should not be part of it. One could create a thread about it but taking pictures and uploading it to the internet is nothing short of an act of depravity. If you see an accident that people lost their lives, you should pray for the souls of the dearly departed, not take pictures. And to the people that take these pictures, take a good hard look at your present situation. And realise that by doing things like this, you will probably never rise above your current economic situation You moderators should talk amongst yourselves and come up with a solution to this. /Rant |
CityNG:Took quite a while for me to figure out what kind of car it is. I know it's from the VAG group. My gut says Jetta but.... WAIT! WHAT KIND OF SONG IS THAT YOU ARE LISTENING TO?? ![]() |
The E39 5 series is fairly reliable and it has more parts in he Nigerian market than even the E46. If you find a pristine 530, do not hesitate to pick it up. Good luck. P.S Uboma has a 520. |
I'm thinking Auction Export should address this Mr Goodtalk, as to be honest the situation between them and him needs clarification for future purchasers. What i can see so far is, he is being ignored, I'm not too sure I'm really happy about it and i'm sure others are too! Please address his questions and put future punters minds at ease. |
Hello Adexfem, could I please get a quotation estimate for the clearance of a 2009 Hyundai genesis sedan from Korea. Haven't purchased, nor shipped the car yet. Trying to calculate costs from Korea vs USA. Cheers. |
Siena:Than you Siena. I have complained about this for quite a while and the moderators really need to do something about this. We are here because we love talking about cars. I don't come here to see the tragedy that has befallen another man. For the sake of their families, these sort of threads should be discouraged or moved into a new forum. I don't understand the twisted reasoning behind grabbing a couple of photos at the scene of a tragedy and rushing to post it up on Nairaland. If i was a Mod, I would ban the posters with extreme prejudice. |

Homguy:I see you are the exact type of audience he panders to. I fail to see how you do not see the inherent silliness in his posts. Except, you are one of his various aliases. I will announce it because relevant threads that seek genuine attention are bumped pages back because of his anal topics. What car is this This vs this What car will you buy with all the money in the world I come on car talk to read and offer assistance to people who genuinely need it. Most times I can't find those posts because utter drivel like this takes up all the space. I still wish we could block users Have a great day. |
cne010:I believe 2008 was the first model year of the 335i in the USA. Previous model years had the 2.5 and 3.0 M54 engine. The 335i is also a twin turbo so no, I doubt the ECU would be compatible. |
lomomike:LMAO! That indeed was me! You could have horned or waved or better yet, jumped out of your car ![]() Yeah my turn signal is broken and i have refused to buy it from our local parts sellers at 16k because i refuse to be ripped off. I should get them though. It mars the dashing good looks of the vehicle ![]() It's a Matte Grey with a little bit of purple and blue thrown in (Exotic Space Grey is what i call it). I think I will patent the mixture and get any car i buy painted that way. |
Kids, when you save money and finally buy a performance sedan, First, learn how to drive said performance sedan before going out into the wild to impress people. M'kay? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vugtSA08aZU |
cne010:Thanks, It could be a S350 as those were only sold in Europe. The W220 only got the 350 in the US in its final year of production and they are as scarce as hens teeth. |
Emperoh:Since no Benz owner has replied, allow me, a BMW owner (who has also considered a S350) reply you. The W220 has its share of electrical gremlins not none too worrying. Also check if the car has ABC (I doubt it if its a 350) but that is another area of super worry. Engine parts M112.E37 are shared amongst other lesser Mercedes models (ML350 In Nigeria, and i see loads of those) so they should be readily available. Alternatively, the S320 shares most engine components with the more popular (in Nigeria) M112 E32 engine so servicing and engine parts will even be easier. However in a car of complexity there are several other things which could go wrong. The s320 is also down approximately 25hp and 25 lb/ft of torque to the 350. Like you said, the airmatic is a problem, not just the pump but also the individual shocks. Arnott have reconditioned shocks which are not too bad but the costs hit hard if you are not expecting it. Air suspension parts could be cheaper in Nigeria but i haven't done my research. |
I would buy Autosbay a car, or maybe find suitable employment for him, so he stops with all the silly threads on Nairaland. |
Raymie:I must be old! I don't remember it being cool to spell 'Your' as 'Yhur'. Crikey! But has even been morphed to 'Buh' ![]() |
GAZZUZZ:Yes, the BMW is my one and only workhorse. Day in day out, approximately used 40 miles a day for my commute and other associated movement. Next question? |
nurey:The reason you may or may not have spotted one is definitely due to your location. I spot them everywhere here - Abuja. Talking about being phased out is a moot point as well because all the accords, camry's, corollas and civics have been phased out as well yet we still see them in droves. I am obviously different but buying a the automotive equivalent of your fridge because of reliability is a no no in my book. Nothing is utterly reliable (Not even human beings). Stop using reliability as the only argument when buying automotive white goods. Some like to drive from point A to B, others like to have fun between point A and B, others llike to have fun in a well built car with excellent materials in and out between A and B. What side are you on? If i really wanted a Japanese car, I would ignore all the Honda's and Toyota's of the world and Buy a WRX or STi (also, add an Exo X since they are going the way of the Dodo) |
Stupid thread is stupid /thread |
I am just seeing this, OP do not listen to those Ignorant people telling you to run just because they love the mediocrity of japanese brands. The X5 you are interested in Is well within limits of normal ownership as long as you dont buy a lemon. Inspect the car very well, have it scanned to ensure a good bill of health. That model of X5 is exceeding popular in Abuja, most people complain about the 4.4 V8 model but i see loads of them here and im pretty sure the owners didnt sign a blood pact with the devil to ensure reliability before owning them. The 3.0 version is a lot slower but a lot easier to maintain due to it sharing a common engine with the most popular BMW in abuja, The E46. Sure suspension bits will be a bit pricier than their japanese equivalents but at least you wont replace them as often. particularly the 4.4 version which has air suspension at the rears. Dont fall into the traps of owning cars that have neither soul nor pedigree. In summary, Ignore GAZZUZZ, Chuka, nurey, abatically, and especially lomomike who is so childish he cant comment because he wasnt invited. Most of these people are talking out of hearsay, none of them have ever owned a BMW in nigeria and are just spreading what they read over the internet or heard with no real life experience. I own a BMW and its been nothing but solid motoring bliss for the 15 months i've had her. Inspect, Acsertain bill of health, purchase, maintain dilligently That is the BMW spirit. ... Leave all the girl-next-door types (Toyota, Honda, Nissan) and date a supermodel... lungwun (c) 2015 |
Am i the only one that noticed that Candy Red Micra? ![]() Quality job Siena. |
Some people are obviously easily impressed. It's not about horsepower numbers, it's about putting those numbers to the pavement, and Kia has failed. A 275 hp car that gets to 60 in 6.1 seconds Or A 240 hp car that gets to 60 in 5.5 seconds Kia should stop lying. Or find better ways to transfer power to the pavement. |
