Cameroon's military has revealed that it has killed over 100 Boko Haram fighters who attempted to cross the border from Nigeria and attack a town, according to state media.
According to Cameroon Radio Television, the Communication Ministry said that a battle ensued between the military and Boko Haram insurgents in the town of Fotocol, located across the border from Borno state, the heart of the Islamist militant group's insurgency.
No Cameroonian soldiers were killed in the fighting and the military dealt "a severe setback" to the group during the clashes, government spokesman Issa Tchiroma Bakary said in a statement.
According to the radio report, Boko Haram insurgents fired two shells on the Cameroonian town before the army retaliated with mortar and gun fire.
The Islamist militants were pegged back and forced to retreat to the border town of Gamboru Ngala following the deaths of over 100 of their men.
Boko Haram have continued to seize territory in Borno state such as the towns of Damboa, Gwoza and Bama, although the Nigerian military claims to have recaptured Bama.
Experts from the Nigeria Security Network (NSN) have warned that Boko Haram is now plotting a major offensive on the Borno state capital of Maiduguri in similar fashion to the Islamic State's capture of Mosul city.
"Unless swift action is taken, Nigeria could be facing a rapid takeover of a large area of its territory reminiscent of Isis's lightning advances in Iraq," their new report, entitled North-East Nigeria On The Brink, claimed.
Thousands of Nigerians living in Borno state have fled the group's violence into Cameroon but now the group are attacking towns in the neighbouring country.
Earlier this year, the group kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls in the village of Chibok, bringing global attention to the west African nation's fight against terrorism.
Three states – Borno, Yobe and Adamawa – have been under a state of emergency since May last year.
According to Human Rights Watch, the militants have killed at least 2,053 people since the beginning of 2014.

Sometimes I wonder if Nigeria has an Airforce....

I still can't understand how a group of terrorist can take over a town like Bama and the airforce couldnt support the ground troops to hold the ground and prevent the takeover of the town....

I think what is going on now is that the Nigerian military is on counter offensive, trying to retake the town from the terrorists...

While acknowledging the sacrifices and good job of the Army in fighting the terrorists..., I think the Airforce needs to wake-up and be close to the ground troops such that when the ground troops encounter fierce resistance, the Airforce can be called upon to clear the way, with this in mind I don't think the military can loose grounds.

I am however worried that if the terrorists truly took over Bama as widely reported, then that means the Army barracks in Bama must have also fallen into the hands of terrorists and that means more military weapons in the hands terrorists!... Thats really saddening... I hope thats not the case...

Nigeria also needs to seal and protect its borders.... At least use high concrete walls/ fences as used by US forces in Iraq and other places.
These concrete walls are ready made and should be deployed all round our borders to prevent any loop holes.
Nothing should be spared in protecting the territorial integrity of the nation.

I also think the Nigerian military top brass needs an overhaul because since the new Army chief came, the terrorists seem to be gaining more grounds.

The former Army chief ( Ihejirika) did inflict so much injuries on the terrorists and performed far better than the present Army chief.

He hasn't shown enough competency to handle the health sector yet but now wants to dive in to the education sector!.. Really absurd!

What steps did the minister of health take to prevent EBOLA from getting into Nigeria ?? Knowing fully well that EBOLA was prevalent in countries like Liberia, etc for over six months before it got to Nigeria and nobody from the health sector was deployed to at least check or quarantine suspected EBOLA carriers at the borders and various point of entry into Nigeria.

In Nigeria.. people usually wait till something happens before action! Why always reactive measures.??

What happened to preventive/ proactive measures?

The health minister should better concentrate on the health sector and leave the education sector for the education minister!

Enough measures should be put in place to curtail EBOLA virus before any school resumption!

If adults and health workers have been this vulnerable to the EBOLA virus... What will be the fate of kids who'll even be more vulnerable?

expert101: Please run away from that mechanic before he kills you!. I experienced something like that when I changed my car engine Camry 1999. The reverse gear often makes noise when engaged. My advice is for you to make enquiries of a good mechanic and a gear expert that can diagnose the problem.

@ Expert101, its not a gear issue, my gear works perfectly without issues.

Its about an annoying rattling noise at the engine compartment causing the engine oil indicator light on the dashboard to blink continously.

Hi GAZZUZZ and other car gurus in the house....

Please my 2003 corrolla has been giving me some issues lately...

Previously everything worked fine.. with a silent engine and steam usually coming out of the exhaust when the car is started in the morning..
Few weeks back, I started the car but heard some rattling noise from the engine compartment and then the engine oil light began blinking...

I checked the engine oil gauge, it was okay, I changed my oil about 4 weeks earlier with mobil xp 1000 synthetic.

I called my mechanic who now came and unscrewed the oil filter and then screwed it back, the rattling noise stopped and the engine oil light in the dashboard stopped blinking.
I then tried driving the car but as I was driving a little distance, the noise came back stronger and the engine oil light started blinking again, I managed to drive back home slowly with the noise.
My mechanic then changed my oil and fixed a new oil filter but the noise still persisted. He then told me that the noise could be coming from the timing belt, he requested I buy a new roller chain for the noise to stop.
He opened my engine and removed the timing belt ( roller chain with yellow marking) which came with the vehicle from US, thats the first time the engine has ever been opened.
He took N12,000 from me to buy a new roller chain ( this one had no yellow markings on it).
After fixing it; the rattling noise still persisted.
He then unscrewed the oil filter with the vehicle still on, and screwed it back; he said my oil pump is weak because he expected so much oil with pressure splashing on him in the process but that it wasnt the case as the oil that splashed on him wasnt with so much pressure.
He then took N10,000 from me to buy oil pump, saying it will solve the problem.
After fixing a brand new pump ( according to him), the noise came back stronger with the engine oil light constantly showing on the dashboard.
As it stands now; I'm tired and confused that my once sweet and smooth running car is now heading for the quagmire.
The mechanic seems to have run out of ideas.
I have advised him to put back the original timing belt (roller chain) and the oil pump which the vehicle came with when it arrived Nigeria as I dont think his prognosis so far is successful.

Note; This is the very first time the engine has been opened, and I think the timing belt is supposed to be set correctly after removing and installing it, I'm not sure if he has done this ( please correct me if i'm wrong).

Please kindly help me out to save my car as I'm at cross-roads now, I really dont know what to do again given the steps taken above.

It would have been better if doctors are striking for more money, but rather striking for flimsy reasons like...
