Hi peeps... This e family is growing larger by the day.. Was thinking we could Organise a Canada nairaland meet up.. Something like insta meet for instagram where members meet up for picture project lol, but this would be for drinks or dinner... Maybe like once a year in major cities like Toronto, Lagos, etc... Would be nice to meet and chat with forum members around your city about experiences and challenges etc....... Just a thought... |

standupguy: Mr redribs Nice insight but let me tell you why my app was a shock to everyone. My sponsor is a senior banking offical with annual package of more than 8m, still single and blood siblibing, though balance was low, it was actually her salary account. co sponsor was a business owner with a very high volume of transaction in her business account and a fdp of 25m, Still blood sibling and single. I am the last sibling and every other person in the family has a permanent good job including my bro who just finished his pdg has a good offical job in canny. So insufficient funds was the last excuse anyone expected to be the reason for refusal. My SOP i consider very brilliant because I addressed every aspect of my life and benefits of the program. I read this thread everyday and i have reasons to believe that between sept and November the VOS got really harsh. Which makes me beat myself why I didn't apply really early as i had my admission since may-june, i was waiting for a program from another school but when it wasn't forth coming,i decided to use what I already have. Plus I felt I should let them treat sept applicants, now I know better. I will give it one more try adding a few more things to my app and my sure there is liquid cash in the SOA. We can only do what we can and hope for on God for the best. .... What did you use as your home tie? , u kinda need a strong home tie to naija considering u have ties in Canada already... If ur home tie isn't strong VO might think u won't come bk home especially for d fact dat ur brother is here in Canny |

An important factor is Course correlation and academic progression, I think @redribs missed that in his write up, also a proper explanation of any academic gap which including a CV would do... |

pchax: High cost of living in Vancouver. That dissuaded me. I have a soft spot for SFU and UBC and the rivalry breeding between those two but Vancouver is one of the most expensive places in North America. Would have loved to quote a source for that last bit of info. But tiredness... Ya it is expensive and I am not too sure of the job prospects there..... Every province pretty much has its advantages and disadvantages. |

akanni: BC-British Columbia, one of the provinces in Canada. Guys that are going there, i hope you also checked out their PR route too. from my research BC is one of the easy province to get PR tru PNP, it has no Caps like Ontario, I think most grads in Ontario rely on CEC for PR but in BC PNP process is pretty cool and also has CEC as well..... . |

mobuch: How old are u and how much experiences have u gone thru in life Do u still live under your parents' roof? The challenges the average youth faces in nigeria is far more bigger n complex than the one he or she would face outside nigeria.
In Nigeria, u need to allign yourself with god or any other spiritual force u believe in, if u wanna achieve your dreams.
Sit on the fence, n see how slow your life will be. This is derailing this thread, so I will stop here. I have lived on both sides of d planet, so I know what am talking about. How old are u in the first place?? ... I don't think u are the only one suffering in naija.... Even in canada there are peeps suffering so dnt use dat as a reason to say naija is dark.... |

Your available funds of 9M. Is good. All D best. Did the 40 yrs and 55 yrs old lady need visa to study or were they Canadians?....that's what u should consider...age might be a barrier when convincing the V.O that you are going to study ...you should be able to explain what u have been doing since your last degree...shouldn't be too hard for a 28 yr old.. |

iykedare: I m interested in the answer to this question.
what course did you study for your first degree and what course are you going for? Can advanced diploma guys be admitted for masters too? Ya I guess, depends on the school. ..uni of manitoba stated that if your grades are not up to the requirement you can apply after a pre - masters program gotten from any institution in canada....I did B.Eng in Environmental Engineering in naija. . I am taking post grad cert in Environmental monitoring and Impact assessment I am hoping to get admission for a 1 yr M . Eng program...will start contacting schools when I have my first semester transcript hopefully I can get a conditional offer or something till I am done with my program...really not sure how it works. |

Please I need clarification from anyone here doing a Masters Program after taking a post graduate certificate course in Canada, would like to know how you went about getting the admission since most university application deadlines are February 1st and by then the 2nd semester results are not out in the current post graduate certificate program. Will they give admission with just the first semester transcript? Tnx.
Oga Siga pls ur attention is needed o, probably you or someone you know has done this...thanks much |

redribs: Aii. Thanks.
Just that the thought of going from 30 to -12 in less than 24hrs always makes me imagine it'd take alot more than a thick jacket from naija to be fine. Lol ya it's better to come during summer, but dnt worry alot of Nigerians are surviving you will survive....The good thing is that even Canadians feel the cold when it's cold just try to dress warm and if possible stay close to a bus stop so u don't have to walk long mins in d snow...u can check sears.ca website, go to OUTLET department on d website, u should get a variety of warm stuffs on sales...very affordable. |
