nairalanda1: There is one thing missing from that picture
Modified
The reason why the value of the naira is going down is because we are not producing industrial goods for export. That is what nations with strong currencies do
Nigeria is sabotaging its productive effort by keeping subsides on electricity, which prevent the sector from growing as it should grow. Also, we don't put tolls on the road, and a lot of public utilites are kept cheap, meaning cities cannot pay for improvements
All that drives away investment and leads us into more poverty and destruction
No, the answer is not selling more oil or more minerals. Our population is too large for that. We better accept the hard truth, or we would keep going from one bad leader to another promising us the moon and giving us rocks because reality always thrashes fantasy.
We cannot be using oil money to lie to ourselves. Even the poster I quoted knows that the value of the naira under GEJ was built on high oil prices and debt forgieveness which reduced our debt. And even then, NIgerians were complaining about how bad things were, so the next leader came with story on how to keep value of naira high...Buhari and his sidekick tinubu. Well, you know how that turned out...naira has fallen in value largely because thanks to the fall in oil prices, borrowing and printing of naira was ramped up, which worsened the debt even more, and led to inflation, which made things worse for our revenue..and led to subsidy removal, and ironically even more borrowing.
All because we do not do what countries with strong currencies do. Export industrial goods and atrract value to our currency. No nation became prosperous from selling oil or other minerals, they became prosperous from using their raw materials to make stuff the world needs. This has absolutely nothing to do with the fall of the naira |

UrVillageChief: Many of these kids don’t know the difference between bantering and claiming falsehood to be facts. One was arguing with me yesterday and I can remember telling him and predicting that PGMOL would release a statement apologizing soon and they did today🤣🤣 Another one was even telling me that I didn’t know more than the officials🤣 imagine o. Like na today I start to dey watch ball. I knew they would apologize abi no be EPL? You can banter and call United all sorts of name but please, don’t play on other people’s intelligence. I fit laff you but that doesn’t mean I should start saying dust. I support United and while Bruno should have been shown a yellow card at least, Foden indeed deserved that red card and even other penalties. You don’t kick your opponent’s groin just because he upset you first. Main reason i avoid viewing centres It's worse there You will see people arguing pointlessly about things they can't grasp😄 |

fredoooooo: Your gaol vs Ipswich this season , shouldn't have stand. The Red card yesterday.. Bruno deserve to go with it .. If we go by your logic .. united will be in 4the dicisoo today if we deduct the poi s get from Refrees help Howard Webb you missed , football just exposed yiur team I'm sure you are among the clowns who used to say Sir Alex was racist and didn't sign African players Oh and FYI Howard Webb became a PL ref in 2003 Sir Alex had 8 league titles by then so United missing Howard Webb isn't banter mate It's just you giving people ammo to keep calling ya an African expert |

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: English Referee Governing Body Says Haaland's Goal Was Offside by LZAA: 9:52am On Sep 14 |
UrVillageChief: No they didn’t. You obviously didn’t watch the match but just relying on fulltime scores on Sofascore and nairaland. United had been outplaying them even before that red card. There were just unlucky. Two of their shots even got stopped by the woodworks and Donarumma was fire that last night. Bruno should have gotten a yellow card too and yes, Foden deserved that red card. You can’t kick your opponent’s groin all because he provoked you first. Away from that, something drastic needs to be done about this English refereeing problem. You can’t keep apologizing week in week out and the favored teams still retaining their points. The ref got the decision right because it was a daylight offside. Both Haaland and Enzo were very visibly offside until Var stepped in. You have time to be explaining to this clowns One clown said united won league titles with offside goals |

triplechoice: No. You haven't. I asked concerning what Omotola said, not on the use of the word Ibo.
And it's not true only Yorubas use it. I have seen other tribes used the word since they don't know the difference.
I'm not engaged in any tribal war with you,so how does it make sense to use the word to degenerate your tribe. Common sense should have told you it was an innocent mistake. If you disagree that's your cup of tea and it won't help you to prove your point. Check my profile to confirm I'm have never been part of the tribal banter between both tribes on Nairaland. My friend No other tribe does this Infact people who actually have been to other regions in Nigeria know this Stop shifting goalposts here That being said Omotola was rightly checked by her Director Actors help each other They do not claim to be superior to any one Clint Eastwood used to coach actors Al pacino did the same What Omotola did was a disgrace You can try and deflect all you want but the truth CHANGES for no one Now GTHOH |

Celebrities › Re: Omotola Faces Backlash Over Experience With Igbo Actor In Hollywood (Video) by LZAA: 3:25pm On Sep 13 |
triplechoice: No, LZAA, I insist I'm not.
However, I just Google it and can confirm that you're absolutely correct about the use of Ibo. Igbo is the modern acceptable word while Ibo is colonial. I was taught this in secondary School long ago but no longer remember that.
So it was an honest mistake not intended as a deliberate tribal insult. I apologize for that error. I detest anything that has to do with colonialism especially the modern one. I will drop that that word never to use it again. Honestly speaking I'm from Niger Delta.
Let's focus on the substance of the debate without bringing tribe into it.
Prove to me that what she did was wrong without viewing it through a tribal lens. Still Yoruba Nigerians know this |

Celebrities › Re: Omotola Faces Backlash Over Experience With Igbo Actor In Hollywood (Video) by LZAA: 1:30pm On Sep 13 |
triplechoice: See your problem now? You think I'm Yoruba when I'm not. The most tribalistic tribes in Nigeria, are the Ibos and the Yorubas yes . And that's why it's easy for you people to give tribal coloration to anything that involves the two of you.
Omotola is talking about standard and respect for an indigenous African language. Instead of you to focus on that and demand foreigners show respect to our culture, you choose to attack her and accuse her of what she's not guilty of.
In the Mandela movie,Morgan Freeman wasn't doing the same thing Omotola complained. It's not about accent. It's about mixing of languages, which is odd.
You claimed to have watched the video, yet you struggle to understand what she complained of. SMH "Ibos" My gee you are yoruba The middle belt,South South and North never ever type "ibo" Happy weekend |

Omotola was talking about professionalism but trust people that has never rule the Country by election to turn it to tribal war Then on the basis of "professionalism" she would have been kicked out of so many Nollywood sets Also this lady butchered so many igbo words yet directors ignored her flaws and cast her Oh and btw nobody is claiming victim and like gehgeh said even the Agbado sifu you claim to support will just be laughing at you lot and calling you daft😁 |

Politics › Re: The 7 Categories Of People Who Will Vote For Peter Obi In 2027 Elections by LZAA: 1:22pm On Sep 12 |
3. Tribal and Regional Base Voters Politics in Nigeria still has an ethnic dimension, and Obi is no exception. A significant number of Igbo voters, both at home and in the diaspora, see him as "one of their own" who finally has a real shot at the presidency. But it goes beyond that. In the South South and parts of the Middle Belt, many voters also align with him because they feel historically excluded from power and see his candidacy as a chance to reset the rotation. Going by this Ndigbo would have voted for Rochas,Kalu and Ikemba too Igbos vote competence not my person o Know this |

damoobaba: Same way Obi ended up a Governor and also in contention to become President when its clear the guy LACKS CAPACITY. In Nigeria, the moment you're popular and you speak against Government, then they can vote you in as President or Governor. It's the reason Nigeria ended up having Buhari as President because he always gathers 12 million votes from religious b@nd!ts IN EVERY ELECTION CYCLE. And that's why when he became President,he nearly turned the whole country into RUGA. We all know the REGION that made the Daura langa president |

Unless you're a rapper or a songwriter it really isn't necessary and i will tell you why Most major stars after their first huge hits are basically controlled by their labels who hire SONGWRITERS to write songs for them in order to guarantee hits that will make money That's why gifted musicians like R kelly,Tekno,Kizz Daniels,Runtown,Neyo and Chris Brown also wrote/write for their fellow artists So again it's not necessary if you're not a rapper ✌️✌️ |
