@kobojunkie
Like I said earlier, I say again: I get your point. We have a rule of law, let us stick by it. Fine. But allow me to digress a little bit.

Kwara State has been governed by about how many generations of one family for how long now? And yet does the trend seem to change? Nigeria has been ruled by people of the same caucus since 1960. True or false? Does that look special to you? Cos I remember you stating that we pretend that our situation isn't peculiar. I wish to ask for examples too where this trend has ever been either in the so called developed world or developing. One fact I know is that these WOLVES aren't ready to vacate. In the past decade, have you ever heard of a political office holder being arrested let alone tried in court? No! You call it selective justice. I agree. But isn't it better than having nothing being done like it has been in the past years? You clamour for the implementation of the rule of law. That's fine. But who wants to implement that law? These same wolves? When they'll be the first to be found guilty? They'll not even try. The only suggestion I feel you could give is to totally and miraculously remove these people from power or wait till their selective justice catch up with they themselves. Unless you ask for a revolution which I feel is not in the nation's best interests in order to avert a war. Do you get my point?

i get your point. Selective justice is bad. It seems to be no justice at all but what we are trying to say is, even though it looks like no justice, it is better than having none. Half bread they say is better than none. Unless of course there is a solution, what we have is what we have. We aren't pleased with it either. In the midst of all this justice nonsense, we have seen people who have stood up against joining these WOLVES. That alone gives us hope that there will be a better Nigeria than there is now. And just in that same nature they'll keep appointing people who'll not give in to them. This issue is a big tree that can't be made to stop growing unless we uproot it. And that starts with everyone I believe is reading this post. That was why I said, we would not rest or stop this battle of words. For now, it is the only weapon we have and we'll make use of it until we have a better weapon. But then, I need to ask a question: since for now all that there is is selective justice or rather no justice, what do you suggest we do. Reason: i haven't seen a solution in all that we've been saying here. I and some people here suggested that we wait and see while these "WOLVES" consume each other cos it's the only thing we feel will bring about balance. You disagreed. Fine with me. We're here to talk to reason. What do you think can be done? I guess that should be the purpose of this argument. Over and out.

Deep Sight, hold on. The search for an utopia is not far fetched. But what Kobojunkie does not understand that I need her to realise is that right now, selective justice may seem prevalent but it is what will ultimately bring about a balance in the system. Let me rephrase Deep Sight's analogy about wolves. They'll feast on themselves until what is left is a pack that will be chased out by the innocence and resilience of the deer. Nigeria's utopia cannot jump in. That is one fact i'm quite certain of. It's something I imagine would come about one day. But at the beginning of this thread, Deep Sight called our attention to one fact: it can't happen all of a sudden. It will take years. It may not be in our own generation but it will definitely come about. The fight for independence and democracy was fought by some and that few aren't living today to see what their fight had given birth to. Yet it has materialised. One thing we must put in mind is this: we won't stop this fight. We won't quit our battle of words. Selective justice may not be pleasant today. It may be what has become the order of justice but while our cry for true justice remains, selective or no justice gives way. I rest my case.

Deep sight, sky blue, OAM4J and my other fellows who have been saying the fact here on this thread. No waste your breath. I don't know why reality can be so obvious and some people will choose to believe to live in the virtual world. The point is noted. We are living in one world that can't be perfect. What annoyed me most was the guy who was talking about the Clinton-Lewinsky case. Please if you need to state examples, check very well with facts and correlation. I'm not here to talk. I'm just here to tell you guys that until you learn that the Sun that shines in the north isn't different from that in the South, then you haven't learn anything.

Tears of the Sun (2003) Bruce Willis, Monica Belluci

Director, Antoine Fuqua should have done justice to this play by not giving it a Nigerian theme. At first, I felt like I was watching the gory details of the 1979 Biafran Civil war but barely 20 minutes into the movie, I was made to wake up from my fantasy land. Asides the fact that the movie was not even shot in Nigeria, it carried a story many would see as true. These film makers must be careful sha o! Anyways, the movie was good. If you love action, bam! If you're after the story, forget it.

justdtruth:

we have all spoken well

there is a part of this issue that we often overlook. pls do we have any militry, police, sss or whatever security forces in the house. pls we would want you to paint a little picture of what loyalty means in that circle. if you have an undertsanding of that loyalty then you will also appreciate what is happening now particularly with governance in nigeria. once a soldier, always a soldier. all these miltary men who came into politics came in with all the military ideas and that is how they work. thay have equally transfered this military mentality to the alagbadas and babarigas they dine with. ribadu is a tool, yes and what about others? are they tools too? the answer is yes. you want to work with them, then you have got to be loyal. katakata starts when there is a change in leadership or structure. all loyalist get the favours and all non-loyalist get the bashing. that is how it works. and when they are able to bring back their structure, they try to right the wrongs on the loyalists. these things are always about which camp you belong to.

this is how it happens everywhere. advanced, developing or underdeveloping countries. what our prayers should be is that the camp that will bring more benefits to the people have the day.

what we read in the papers are plays and dramas. the real thing is always classified. you know, sometimes, they just laugh at our analysis. they feed us gibberish and we poo same by talking the same gibberish

rather than be a pro-ribadu or anti-ribadu, pro-obj or anti-obj, pro-corruption or anti-corruption, tackle the issues and not the persons.

Ose o. You helped in clarifying this matter on a fair level. Funny thing is such talk like this puts an end to the story. But my fellow nairalanders still wan dey argue. NL let's talk loyalty. How many people fit face gun and go against these people's wishes? The talk here is nobody is saying this guy is a saint. We're expecting him to be better. Can you get a clean cloth in just one wash? Haba! (e jé káa sòrò sí ibi t'órò wà)

Okay guys. Let's narrow it down. I've seen many sides here and the ones I'll appraise a little, of which side is much fairer is the "selective justice is better than no justice at all". I will also agree to that.

Ribadu fan or not, Lastpage made his point. The guy tried. Like I said earlier, Ribadu was a tool who needed to be saved. Enough said, I have questions to ask:
1. Are we saying it isn't right to have Ribadu pardoned?
2. Fine. The man needs no praise. He could have done better but yet he's been reinstatated as though given a medal of honour. Where does that take us on selective justice?
3. If tomorrow, someone cries foul for not being treated like Ribadu, what requirements would justify the rejection of such pardon like Ribadu just got?
4. Babaowo asked a question earlier and someone waived it off. I'll like to rephrase the question: Do we continue to watch all this drama and start giving opinions in their aftermath? Or really, is there an opinion to "where do we go from here?"

I took my time to read through each comment. I'd say to all - you have all said well. I'm no moderator as some may start to think. I have a few things to say myself.

I would have loved a situation where Jonathan had not interfered with the Ribadu issue. But if he hadn't the guy would have suffered for nothing. Ribadu shouldn't be praised but saved and that was what happened. He's a tool. He was used. Period. What happened afterwards, I as a Nigerian would waive it. He worked as a tool and needed to be saved. And I think Jonathan has done well saving him. What I wouldn't expect is a political or civil service post after all this drama which is think will be the end product. But on another hand, Ribadu should have been spanked. I don't agree with his attitude with the Nigerian Police. Someone was right. This event would open a floodgate of indiscipline. We, Nigerians are funny. Don't be suprised if in two years time, we start seeing references even if it is irrelevant. That was why I said Jonathan shouldn't have interfered in the first place. I also could rate it a minus for him as Otukpo had stated. It's a bad reference for him. It's too early. Conclusively, i'd say that we are only at the beginning of a war against corruption. In a war, there is no right and wrong. No rules. No procedures. No definitive measures. It's about getting the result done. Innocence is not a requirement. You get your hands soiled, you get it dirty. But after the war, you can be called to account. You are punished for wrong doings if you're found wanting. These our leaders won't rest and they'll always want to get smarter by the day. We need someone who can play in the dirt with them with the motive of putting cuffs in their hands while they least expect it. He may not be innocent while he is at it but so far he gives us an excellent result, he has faired. Till when the good and the bad are known, till when we can only rely on the innocent to take up the role. It's one step at a time. There are a lot of hurdles to climb. We've just skipped one.

Well I felt like I was watching the supernatural version of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator. And the supernatural story is so bad that you'll feel it was made for people who do not believe in God to just laugh it off. Good action though. They made use of the angel wings so well - in the scene where Michael (Paul Bettany) fought with Gabriel. And by the way the angels looked more like gladiators than being represented as different as they were. Hmmm,

The reason why we will continue to be Nigerians is in the fact that we don't allow our problems weigh us down. That has been a good thing for us as a nation. In the hope that Nigeria will one day be better. So for those of you who feel that this is stupid and not funny, I guess you have spent more time away from home. Every nation in the world has their own share of problems too. We will get there.

becomrich6:

All your politician are going to wake up death. How old are you people.  The military would remove the politician from power if they do not remove the yorubas, edo, delta and bayelsa out of nigeria to make the north majority,

I dont want to remind nigerian, the type of military we have. They kill people for N20 or 10 cent on the road of nigeria. So you think they would remove this government from power,

You know what they call koboko in Nigeria. This people use it on civilian. They would line up all the members of the senate and house of rep and thier family member very soon and shoot them all . Take my word for it. let them continue to call Gadaffi mad man, instead of them doing what is best to protect the lifes of nigerian. Who would see who is a mad man very soon.

The bible says wisdom is only useful to the wise. but the fool1 reject wisdom.  6 million people use nairaland every month, the northerner military  boys have seen the satellite pictures. they tried to confirm online if i was telling the truth. they would strike very soon.  They kill people for N20 or 10 cent on the road of nigeria.

@ becomrich

Let me ask you: Are you a part of the military, cos you sound so certain that the military would take over power?

Are you a sponsor or do you know sponsor(s) of this "imminent wave of power usurp"? if not, why should the military be intrested in N20 to kill someone? Who gives out this N20?

Plus you have seem to put us more into the shadow with your map. Explain what your map means.
Politics / Re: Gadaffi Again, Calls For Nigeria’s Split : Along Ethnic Lines by macnuel: 12:30pm On Apr 02, 2010
Let's forget all these talk about Ghadaffi. We are only making him feel proud of himself. If all he knows is route people and cause civil unrest. Let us let him be. He has a right to speak and we have heard. it is left to us to take a stand on this issue. My own conspiracy theory is this: Ghadaffi wants a unified Africa and Nigeria is one of the unstable countries standing in between the realization of that fact. he has seen us as unstable and is playing us by it. And we are all proving how unstable and stupid we can be. He strikes a match and we have so far helped him set the forest on fire. Like a friend rightly said and as I had pointed out earlier, splitting Nigeria is not our problem. Electoral reform is not an issue for us. We are being governed by bad leaders and that is what we should rid this nation of. Understanding our individual needs is also important. Let us sort that and we can be sure that we will have a better country. All these arguments won't take us any higher. A lot of us Nairalanders are youths. If we can't unify in voice, how are we not sure Nigeria can't split. It starts from here. Ghadaffi's suggestion is just to test us as a nation, as far as I am concerned. We've been through a lot. We will go through with this. If we split, we still carry our problems with us. Why not remain one and sort this issue?

One Nigeria! Happy 50 years independence!
