I'm not in tune. What are the pictures meant to tell us. What are the red "markers" or "borders" for?

I was spell bound for like one minute reading through. @ Poster, maybe you should consider a job as a journalist. That really went well.
Nice one too.

LOL everyone against JAMB failed it ahahahah!
if you ppl would have studied instead of spent your time in the village stealing udara you would have passed and your opinion would be different

It's not about passing or failing this time. What is JAMB's pass mark? 200 abi? Do you know how many people go beyond the 200 mark every year? Do you know what happens to the little population of people who don't have money or human resources ("as it is the way" as someone pointed out), to run or push forward their chances of getting admitted? The idea is that JAMB is sending a lot of people home every year, people who deserve to learn, people who have the brains, that can hopefully guarantee the future of this country. And you know how it happens,  the number keeps increasing every year. This year it's 6.4 million applicants, who knows if it will be 10 million in the next year?

Better still you can create a VB application for that database file and then you make it executable which you can install anywhere whether Ms-Access is installed or not. The application will always serve as interface for that database while it runs silently on the system.

@ BIG STAR
I actually am interested in that. Could you share please?

We are not Brazilians either, are we? Zulu is still African, it's still something to relate with.

my concern about the carnival is that it doesn't look original. I don't have a problem about the carnival but the fact that the carnival looks too brazilian is my problem. If lagos can come up with a carnival with lots of 9ja flavor then, i will not have any probs with the carnival.

I feel you jare, skiido. Why should we always copycat? Is that the way we dress in naija ni? Before we say Jack now some people will start saying that is the carnival outlook. We can always change things. Make it look more original.

what says you? grin grin grin

Black_Revo:

Even if we are to eradicate Jamb today does that solve the problem of 6.4m people seeking for admission this year alone in all our higher institutions with a maximum available space for only 500,000 slots?

You're right it does not. But then, it opens better chances if universities conduct these things themselves. How better will it be if I'm able to apply to about 5 institutions knowing I have the result? JAMB is supposed to be like an aptitude test or something not like going through the rigorous exercise of reading a stipulated syllabus.
Education / Re: 2010 Admission ‘ll Be Worst - Jamb Registrar by macnuel: 11:16am On Mar 31, 2010
Black_Revo:

I understand you and right as you said it will not be a simple solution like that but it will be backed up by economic policies and government support. You cannot force them to study that when there is no future for them and that is the root to the present discrimination. If Nigeria starts industrializing today trust me we will need more people trained in such schools.

Where i am presently those with technical and vocational skills are not subjected to a fixed tax ( they set it themselves ) and also they are free to fix the prices for their service without regulation. They are doing fine more than university graduates. Tell me who will go to a university when carpenters, mechanics and other vocational jobs start earning more money than those working the bank or big companies? Presently the money lies in places where you need a university education to get into hence the reason why everyone wants to be there and there is discrimination to the others.

Let me give you an example, mechanics charge between 5 and 10 euros per minute here to fix your car and this are not subject to a tax while in other so called university profession you are being paid between 10 to 50 euros per hour subject to tax. There is a national policy for health care which covers all so what else do they need. You can fix your holidays yourself and plan your retirement.

We just need to create a  viable and profitable industries for those who study in the polytechnic and other technical field and you won't see people rushing to the universities.

Create industries for graduates from polytechnics? Jeez! That even makes the matter worse. okay let's picture it. I bagged a BSc from a University, got employed in a company, earn like 150k a month or I get a HND and get employed in a "special" company to earn like 60k a month? Is that it? Tell me the difference it would make. The discrimination would likely continue. And at the end of the day, the pay gradually goes down for those who go to polytechnics. "you see, we can't pay you more than that because these industries were created to provide jobs for someone like you"

What I feel needs to be done is that the awarding of degrees should be parallel whatever institution you attend. If it's going to take polytechnics give one extra year to award a BSc, so be it. If we are all to earn a Bachelor's degree let it be so, so that the outside market will stop these segregation of degrees.

500 000 will be offered admissions

5,900,000 will have to wait!

2,900,000, will wait for another year, perhaps minor percentage of the population from a wealthy background will move into private institutions while some will try A levels, Polytechnics and College of educations.

3,000,000 of those on the waiting list will give up on the dreams of going to a higher institution

of the 3,000,000, perhaps half, will look for alternative legal means of survival such as learning a trade, becoming helps, more fortunate wealthy ones will open small boutiques, engage in large scale entrepreneurship while  others might take to farming,a minority will start thinking about travelling out to any part of the world to take up a less satisfactory jobs for survival. . . a smaller minority might decide to go into local politics.

half of the other 150,000 might engage themselves in illegal means of obtaining money such as online fraud, extortion, armed robbery, pick pocketing, money rituals, drug peddling, prostitution, human trafficking etc.

The remaining half will simply do nothing! other than stay at home and feed off relatives, many of those will attend more night vigils and Muslim prayer sessions for breakthrough!.

Summary of all the Jargon:

The country is doomed

I'm speechless anyways. But doomed? Nah! I disagree. There's still hope so far we look for it. But personally, I would clamour for the eradication of JAMB, they are just making things worse every year.

We dont need Ghaddafi to tell us that the formation of the Nigerian Republic was unlawful, our forefathers were killed in the process and our mothers despoiled!, What Ghaddafi is trying to say is ''IF WE CANT LIVE TOGETHER IN PEACE maybe SEPARATION MIGHT END THE CONTINUOS KILLING AND SEGREGATION WE ARE FACING!''

Really, the fact needs to be said. I am definitely not in support of the way Ghadaffi has been poking his nose into the Nigerian business but a fact is always a fact. If the man made use of better ways of telling us about this, I'm sure we would not be shouting about this as if it were something unheard of. What we should talk about and what our "leaders" should put their heads on is what ways to ensure there is stability and peace in the nation. I still believe we can remain a republic if we understand each others' needs but that needs a serious "flushing".

(2) a means whereby the information minister is highly criticised 4 saying the bitter truth. (3) as a process in which the chief in commander of the armed forces wasn't aware when 2 battalion of soldiers were deployed in the middle of the night. The original DVD of "Precious" will be out on March 9 2010.
"The Hurt Locker" original DVD is already available.
I think "Invictus" is being shown on either Silverbird cinemas or Genesis Deluxe cinemas.

Thanks for the information. The thing is I have watched most of these movies and yeah, I know of City Mall cinemas is showing Invictus this week or the next. But that's like how many weeks. After all the fire has been quenched and Alaba boys might have had their fill. I remembered when Avatar came out. I had seen a couple of sales from these Alaba boys before Silverbird started "premiering" it. It's killing the cinema thingy in people like me. Most times, we have to wait for weeks before it comes out to the cinema or on DVD.

TV/Movies / Re: 2012 Movie,what Do U Think? by macnuel: 1:29pm On Mar 03, 2010
2012 is a movie adaptation of the prophecy that the world is going to come to an end on December 21, 2012 by the reversing of the earth's magnetic poles or rather what was referred in the movie as Earth Crust Displacement theory. The hype of this 2012 thing has been on for over two years now. I love the fact that Charlie Frost was featured in the movie. I had been a follower of his blog for more than one year now and the discoveries have been alarming. The earthquakes that hit Haiti and Chile is making matters even worse. What makes it more worse and interesting is that about four prophecies have been hammering on that same date. The I-Ching, the Mayans (whose calendar supposedly ends on that date), the Kopis and most recently the Web-Bot (an internet software that predicts the future). Check out these links:

^^I mean does anyone have a clue if these blue people represent an actual group in the real world.

some say they might be referring to native americans while others feel the movie is about the white man's responsibility to the environment and native peoples.

Maybe we need to get to the director's mind or probably the writer of that story to get that answer. But i understand what you're trying to say. Avatar reminds me of the story of the New World when the English came to the West to discover new lands. They came in search of gold and perhaps an empty continent but the Red Indians were awaiting their arrival. We all knew what happened afterwards. Typical of Avatar, I might say but then with some new twists.

We really need to talk to these Cinemas. What movies are they feeding us with?

I was hoping to catch some of these new movies that are making US box offices here in Nigeria and i have somehow been waiting for weeks but no show. After Avatar, they've not really brought nice movies. Where's Invictus? Hurt Locker? Even the Precious i thought they'll bring. It's nowhere to be found.

maybe they need to understand some needs of the Nigerian viewer.

When some things happen, there is a reserved right to voice your opinions. If things aren't going the right way, they should be discussed. If taxes are paid and nothing happens, one can ask what the taxes collected are being used for. If Fashola needs to be probed, there's nothing wrong with it so far he hasn't misappropriated funds as alleged. As for me, the guy has done more than what any Governor has done so far. He's put discipline in the system better than what other administrations could achieve. And for the record, roads will continue to be bad, power supply will always have one problem or the other, taxes will be paid, Administrations will continue to have critics and supporters and complaints will be endless.

My concern is that whatever administration that be, let them do what is justifiable, just like what I feel Fashola has done. He is not a miracle worker but at least he has worked some miracles in Lagos.
