Public show of shame by Nigeria police officers. Instead of dismissing them, send them to Sambisa forest to go wrestle Boko Haram. |
The two policemen caught on video fighting will be arrested, investigated and dismissed, the Force headquarters has said. The Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, told our correspondent over the telephone on Sunday that the men would face orderly room trial for their conduct. Ojukwu said, “We have seen the video and I can tell you that the men would be identified and apprehended to face disciplinary action. They will face orderly room trial and they will be dismissed,” he stated. An online video of the two policemen had provoked criticisms from Nigerians who flayed their conduct. The video, which was uploaded to YouTube on Friday by Sharebitmag with the caption, “Two Nigeria police caught fighting in Lagos,” showed the incident took place at the entrance of a bank. In the two-minute clip, a mobile policeman was seen in uniform sitting on top of his colleague while delivering blows on him. Though the video did not show how the brawl began, the second policemen appeared to have been floored, as he did not return any of the punches. A bottle of an alcohol beverage, Alomo Bitters, was seen on the ground next to the men. http://www.punchng.com/news/two-policemen-caught-fighting-on-video-face-dismissal/

Following a failed suicide attack by Boko Haram in one of the IDPs camps in Maiduguri recently, the Borno state government has concluded plans to procure more metal scanners for all of the camps in the metropolis of Maiduguru. Apart from the metal scanners, it was learnt that security arrangements across camps are being reviewed to forestall any tragedy inflicted on the displaced people by Boko Haram. Thr Chairman of Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Grema Terab disclosed the plans to newsmen in Maiduguri. He expressed surprise that some people could have delivered their body and soul to the devil to kill people and cause sorrow to people already traumatized. He lamented that “these are people who have lost almost everything they had and are depending on government for the basics of life, what could they have done that after all the losses, someone is still interested in sending them to an early grave.” “The state government in its usual responsiveness has moved to buy more metal scanners which will be distributed to all IDPs camps in the state to forestall any future attack. “The purchase have been done and the delivery will be made later in the week. “I want to assured all that there is no cause for panic as the security at the camps have been further beefed up with more security measures and guides on watch. He added, “We have at the camps many security details and it would be hard for an security breach,” adding that: “The Saturday foiled attack has further woken up all security operatives and has gone a long way to make us add more security checks.” http://thenationonlineng.net/new/borno-beefs-up-security-at-idp-camps/ |

ABUJA- PEOPLES Democratic Party, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, PDPPCO Sunday took a swipe at the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying the opposition was running newspaper advertorials with renounced and outdated views about President Goodluck Jonathan, describing such action as a measure of APC’s desperation. In a statement Sunday by the Director of Media and Publicity of PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, the PDP noted that the resort to such childish and dirty tactics by the APC would not distract him from his present assignment of selling the candidature of President Jonathan to the electorate and the Nigerian people while exposing the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari as incapable and unfit to rule Nigeria. Fani-Kayode said, “The APC have resorted to buying full page adverts of outdated quotes about President Goodluck Jonathan from old essays written by me when I was in their ranks. “This proves the measure of their desperation. Needless to say I renounced those views about President Jonathan long ago and since then I have returned to the PDP and have given my unflinching support both to him and the party. I shall continue to do so because I regard the APC as an evil party and their Presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, as incapable of and unfit to rule our country. “All the old and outdated quotes in the world cannot change that and I shall not be deterred or distracted from my present assignment by such childish and dirty tactics. “One wonders whether the APC has forgotten what Nasir El Rufai once said about General Buhari being ”outdated and unelectable” and what Bola Tinubu once said about Buhari being ”obsessed with power, wicked, sadistic and unreliable. “Better still, have they forgotten what Buhari himself once said about Bola Tinubu and his ACN governors as being ”corrupt, treacherous, unstable and unreliable”? “Clearly the APC has an obsession with me and my words (past, present or future) and let me assure them that I shall continue to focus my guns on them over the next two weeks regardless of their paid television and newspaper adverts about me. “I shall continue to expose them for the violent men, heartless cultists and dirty ritualists that they are to the Nigerian people. At the same time, I shall continue to intimate our people about the excellent work that Mr. President and the PDP have been doing over the last few months and years and why I believe that he deserves a second term. “All the sponsored adverts in the world cannot stop or change that. The APC should spend the next two weeks before the March 28 Presidential election in sober reflection and prepare for the crushing defeat that they will face at the polls rather than bother about what I said or didn’t say about Mr. President in the distant past.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/apc-is-desperate-running-adverts-with-my-renounced-outdated-views-about-jonathan-fani-kayode/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
