EBONYI State Governor, Dave Umahi, on Sunday reiterated that the shut Kingdom Model Secondary School, belonging to the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ezza South Local Government Area of the state, Friday Agbom, would remain closed.

The school, located in Idemba community, in the Ezza South Local Government Area of the state, was shut down on the orders of the governor for allegedly harbouring cultists.

But the owner, the chairman of the PDP in the Ezza South Council, Agbom, said he was being forced by the governor to defect to the All Progressives Congress, adding that his refusal to do same led to the closure of his school by powers that be in the state.

Umahi, who spoke during a special thanksgiving service at the Christ Embassy Church, Abakaliki, on Sunday, vowed to go after cultists in the state, no matter their status.

He said, “I insist that the secondary school in Ezza South Local Government Area of the state, which was shut down for alleged cultism, remains shut no matter the criticisms it has continued to generate in the state.

“In the few days, we have had very terrible cult activities, but let me warn that we are starting war against cultism again. There are big people that are involved and I will not spare you. I will not spare you and our trouble will not be here, you will be taking to Abuja.”

killed by suspected herdsmen near
his farm along Apodun village in Oyo
State on Friday.
It was gathered that Aborode, a
politician and prominent farmer, was
killed just as he was leaving his farm
around 4pm in company with his
manager on a motorbike.
The manager (name not given), who
was said to have escaped gunshots,
reportedly ran for his life.
A source, who gave his name simply
as Seyi, said, “Suspected Fulani
herdsmen just killed a former house
of representatives candidate on the
platform of Accord Party during the
2015 general poll in Igangan, Ibarapa
North West Local Council
Development Authority, Dr Fatai
Aborode.
“He was attacked by the hoodlums
on his farm, he was macheted
severally and he died while being
rushed to a nearby hospital. He went
to farm with one person on bike. On
their way coming from the farm, they
met the Fulani men. The other
person escaped.”
Efforts to get the reaction of the
police were abortive as calls made to
the Police Public Relations Officer in
the state, Olugbenga Fadeyi, rang
out. A text message sent to him was
also not replied.


It was further gathered that no arrest
had been made at the time of filing
this report.
The killing of Aborode happened less
than 24 hours after an agric
stakeholder meeting held in Ibadan,
the Oyo State capital, in respect of
the recurrent attacks by herdsmen in
the area.

Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) has thrown his weight behind the position of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami that the National Assembly lacks the constitutional powers to summon President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Sagay said the President is higher than every other person in the country whom the National Assembly cannot equate to Ministers and head of agencies that they can summon.
Sagay who said summoning Buhari amounts to denigrating the sovereignty of Nigeria also reminded the lawmakers that the British Parliament cannot summon the Queen to respond to any issue.

He said “Well, my view is that I totally support the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice. One, the President is not just executive Head of Government; he is also the Head of State. He represents the sovereignty of Nigeria, so he is not somebody you can give orders and say ‘come and address us, whether you like it or not!’. They don’t have the powers to do that. The provisions of the Constitution state clearly when he has to go to the National Assembly, and that is when he is presenting a budget”.

“They can afford to call Ministers, Comptroller General of Customs, Inspector-General of Police, Permanent-Secretaries to the National Assembly. These are people who are implementing various projects for which the National Assembly has voted money. But the President is the Head of State, higher than every other person in the country and a symbol of our statehood. They don’t have the powers to summon him”.

He also added that he supported the decision of the President to shun the invitation because the opposition Peoples Democratic Lawmakers were waiting to boo and humiliate him.

“Secondly, we all know that those PDP lawmakers are looking for every opportunity to boo and humiliate the President. They did it when he went to present the budget when Saraki was Senate President. They booed, shouted at him and embarrass him but he showed so much personal composure, presented the budget and left with dignity”.

“Now they are frustrated and are looking for ways to humiliate the President again. So, from purely practical commonsense and from pure constitutional law, there is no reason why the President should go there”.
“So, I agree with Malami on this even though I don’t agree with the reasons he gave. There is no constitutional provision that empowers the lawmakers to do that. The British parliament cannot summon the Queen to come and address them on any issue. So, let them just forget about it”.

“The best thing they can do is to organise themselves and allow the leadership of both chambers to go to Aso Villa to see the President and then he can tell them what he has to say on security. They will then come back and tell their colleagues what he said”.

Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi on Tuesday made his first appearance in the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.

ABN TV reports that the governor had in November announced his defection to All Progressives Congress (APC) from People's Democratic Party (PDP) citing injustice.

The Tuesday meeting is expected to among other things discuss the party's congress where new leadership will emerge, ending the Buni-led interim leadership.

Recall that the party had embroiled in a leadership crisis, leading to the sacking of the former chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, and all members of the exco.
