tensazangetsu: Yeah I know about texas A and M but they don't offer a masters program in marine engineering or naval architecture. I wanna go deeper into it and am not going below the top 30 schools in the world. Ranking really matters to me. Are you really sure about your bro being in MIT, does that mean if I have really high GRE scores, i could get into umich It goes beyond the grade scores. Good grade score is a plus but what of your personal statements. What of past achievements and experiences. Those things also counts |

tensazangetsu: I don't think a 3.8 will be sufficient anything less than a 4.5, he shouldn't even bother. I wrote a mail to university of michigan, one of the best engineering schools in the world, told them I will be graduating with a second class upper in marine engineering and would like to do a masters in naval architecture my supposed gpa was 3.0 on 4.0, the guys told me the minimum they accept is 3.5 and while they consider lower than that, it will be really hard for me to be admitted, am going to third year though, just completed second year. a 3.8 with a solid background can nail it. My brother didn't make up to 4.0 and his is currently in MIT now. Schools have they average cut off but every case is considered on an individual basis. Besides, Texas A & M is the best engineering school in the world. |

BeloHorizonte14: Need blind ke? MIT is a private school.
Abeg Magicminister, how is that possible and hope you are not trying to minister some magic oh? You really need to make more research. Honestly, i don't think you can make MIT because its a school for people that believe in making the impossible become possible. You have already blamed your failure to apply to MIT on your financial woes and that alone is a sign you are not an MIT candidate. All the same, i will advise you. First step: Make atleast a 3.8-5.0 undergraduate GPA MAKE ATLEAST AN 8.0-9.0 on your ielts and a 330 and above on your g.r.e If you have already done that, then email me on ICEVILLEBEATZ@GMAIL.COM and i will finish this post! |

Vikkie14: sorry on your last statement.
But, Bro, who will you choose between the Military(that you claimed harrassed civilians) and Boko Haram(who killed anything "killable" and destroy anything "destroyable" ??
If we are to stop our support for the Military because of some military officers abuse of power, is it Boko haram who slits throats and burn citizens alive that we are going to support?
If we say the Military should sit and reform itself before we can TRUST them, is it BH that we will throw our trust on? As there wont be FEAR OF ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE from them?
THE WORLD IS A DANGEROUS PLACE NOT BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE EVIL, BUT BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE WHO DO NOTHING ABOUT THEM.
For evil to thrive, the good men only need to keep silent.
Even the US government that is accusing Nigerian Military of Human Rights Violations, THEY HAVE THE "WORST" HUMAN RIGHTS RECORD. Is it the twin invasions of Iraq or the drone strikes that has killed thousands of Afghanistans or those that are deliberately bombed or those that came to rescued dead and injured civilians during an airstrike and another armed drone was sent to bombed the rescuers or the assassination of Ghaddafi(of Libya) by US Forces?? The abuses being committed at the Guatanamo Prison can't be mentioned, or is it the Crimes of US soldiers shooting on women and children in their own villages, or is it the incident of "erring" missiles that hits civilian buildings in Pakistan? Countless atrocities by US forces and you are here telling me Nigeria forces are not better than Boko Haram--that's how you sounded.
I agree we need reforms but not on the "overblown" so called human rights records. You have spoken very well. There are cases of human rights abuse cases all over the world but atleast, the American justice system tries to bring erring soldiers to book. Recently, some were sentenced to death for shooting innocent people in iraq and some were sentenced to life in prison. Often times, the truculent soldiers are often a handful but the NIGERIAN government is not doing anything to keep them in check. Even NDA cadets now go about punishing civilians as can be seen in the link below http://www.informationng.com/2015/07/photos-of-first-year-nda-cadets-harassing-civilians.htmlI am not against shooting boko-haram renegades but i am against the torture and extra-judicial murder of anyone. That is the difference between us and them. If the Nigerian army keep murdering indiscriminately, then there is no difference between them and Boko haram. Even in a peaceful state like lagos or anambra, the Nigerian Armed forces blare their siren in non-emergency situations and you know what happens if you dont leave the road?? Remember this case? https://www.nairaland.com/191814/naval-officers-beat-up-lady/8My brother, leaVE story. Lets call a spade a spade and not a shovel. The u.s. does not need Nigeria in anyway but we need them. If we get the U.s. to buy our oil do you know how much we would make? If we get arms and training from them, do you know how much more powerful we could be?? The Nigerian armed forces are the most corrupt and brutal organisations in the whole of west africa. I WOULD ONLY CRITICIZE U.S. IF THEIR ACCUSATIONS WERE FALSE BUT WE ALL KNOW THAT IS TRUE. A COUNTRY OF CONSCIENCE WILL NEVER GIVE ITS WEAPON OUT TO ANOTHER COUNTRY THAT MURDERS CIVILIANS!! |
Politics › Re: PHOTOS: Police Man Shoots Roadside Mechanic In Kogi State by magicminister: 3:06am On Jul 28, 2015 |
Human right abuses is one of the reason our armed forces will never be respected. Do you think the world does not see things like this. Every year, there are numerous cases of "accidental discharge" and outright extrajudicial killings. These are the ones you hear. What about the ones you dont hear?
May we and our loved/hated ones never fall victim.
I pray the pain and suffering the armed forces have visited on innocent civilians will fall on them and their generations unborn. |
Politics › Re: Five "Surgical" Possibilities Why US Refused To Sell Arms To Nigeria. by magicminister: 2:59am On Jul 28, 2015 |
Vikkie14: Since the inception of the terrorist onslaught in 2009, the Nigeria-US relationship has become "frost" esp. during GEJ regime and also with this current Government, as the US has blatantly "refused" to sell Nigeria the needed weapons to suppress BokoHaram. Just some days ago, PMB accused US of covertly supporting Boko Haram, read that HERE and the guy who sponsored the "Leahy Law", came out and called a whole Nigerian Military Institution "RAPISTS and MURDERERS", read that HERE . I will highlights some "possible" reasons for this.
1. PIB
Why the west is suddenly so hostile to Nigeria and is actively fighting us across the local and global stage. The "Petroleum Industry Bill", which has been with the National Assembly for quite some time, if passed in its current form, all the International Oil Companies (who are mainly western) would have to settle for a much reduced take than they currently get. Meanwhile the Eastern oil Companies (China, Korea, India) are apparently itching to come in and take up those oil blocks. They did pressurized GEJ and his team without much success-- we hope the 8th senate will pass the bill into law. No wonder everything the Nigerian Government does then(during GEJ tenure), is wrong, and they deserve no help-- even this present government.
2.EBOLA
When the 'biological-terrorist' Patrick sawyer, landed in Lagos with the mission to inflict the "incurable" ebola virus on Nigeria in 2014, it was met with stiff resistance from the medical angle. The quick period we are able to fast-track and contain Ebola is something that baffles the whole world. We added salt to the sore throat when Nigeria was used as good "ROLE MODEL" which should be emulated. Don't forget that US send some medical personnels to study how we are able to Identify, Isolate and Insulate ebola victims within a short time. Someone is wondering why, the word "terrorist" surface here, we have to do a flashback to 2014 when the man was still in Liberia. The CCTV clips shows him "avoiding" his country men at the airport in order not to infect them. But, when he got to Nigeria, he was said to be shaking & 'touching' people and even planning to go over to Calabar(or so). If you still think he is not a biological terrorist and that he doesn't have a mission, read THIS. Think again about the "Liberian-AMERICAN" man.
3. LGBT rights
Their gay rights issue is another one. LGBT means Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Trans-sexual. I have always said that, watch any government which the West disagrees with, more often than not, they(such government) are actually doing something right and beneficial for their own country---the west is only interested in slaves it can boss around. The same America that havent so much cared about Boko haram and over 10,000 civilians who have had their throats slits and killed, have told us that our own Military are the RAPISTs and MURDERERs that shouldn't be helped-- WTF!!! The rabid hypocrisy and Pride is utterly breathtaking.
4. AFRICOM
Is it also possible that we are paying for opposing the relocation of US AFRIca COMmand from Europe to Africa? Think about it, Nigeria is the reason US hasn't relocate AfriCom to Africa because we are "utterly" against their Military "encroachment" on Africa. Both and many more, last black bastion of defense against the 2nd and remote colonization and scramble for africa and it’s resources and market for western products,
5. ECONOMY
Nigeria is undoubtedly a regional power and economic block. Dont ever think US will want a rivalry to their interests. Frankly, any US-China future war will be ONLY because of Economy. We are not only the Power House of Africa, we are also the Largest Economy. Only African have refused to get it, always looking for Help or "aids". Currently, Nigeria is Africa Biggest Economy, the 3rd Fastest Growing Economy(in the world, coming behind China and Qatar), and also, Nigeria is among the MINT(the next world economy power house) country of countries whose economy will become extremely buoyant. MINT is an acronym for Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey. Nigeria Economy surely will hit a trillion dollars in not too distant years--- a issue bothering them.
Remember, WHEN NIGERIA SNEEZES, ALL OF AFRICA WILL CATCH THE COLD. ...Zambia President.
VIKKIE14 Nigerian Military has severe allegations/cases of human rights abuse to its credit and the Nigerian Government isn't doing much to bring the perpetrators to justice. The bad eggs (Most are bad) in the Nigerian army will rape, loot and torture the people they are supposed to protect. There are tonnes of evidence attesting to that fact. The United states has a lay that forbids it from selling weapons to countries with a cases of "severe" human right abuses.
Nigeria has to redeem itself. Personally, i do not feel safe around the Nigerian armed forces. When ever the police is driving around me, i fear that an accidental discharge might end my life.
When the army drives rough and blare their siren for their pot bellied ogas, i fear that i might be knocked down and no one would bat an eyelid in my defence.
Our armed forces are belligerent and truculent. Its high time we accept that fact and make reformation of the armed forces a top agenda.
I AM A PEACEFUL person and i would never speak rudely to any man in "uniform" or with a gun but i have had the police point a gun at me 3 times in my life!! |

Krysstie: One of the most common Nigerian trend is for unemployed graduates to lament about sending out their CVs over a hundred times a month without getting a single feedback. They even curse the government for not giving them jobs.
What if I say most Nigerian graduates are unemployable? It’s high time you all stop disturbing the mailboxes of recruitment agencies and companies who have better things to do than reading your CVs.
I’m not a Human Resource manager, HR or whatever term they give to those people. I don’t run a recruitment agency. I’m just an observer in one corner of Lagos, almost as good as unemployed. Sometime last week I was opportune to help place a job ad and receive the CVs that come in. Receiving CVs is one of the most difficult part of being a HR. First, the job listing sites do not help matters. You place a job ad in one site because you don’t want your mailbox to overflow with CVs, then other job sites you never knew existed take it upon themselves to publish.
I was set for the excitement and fun that came with receiving CVs for the first time, so I let the job listing sites do what they please, without inkling that it would be a frustrating experience.
As the CVs began to troop in, all I expected was to get applicants who had the relevant job experience stated in the ad, but the reverse was the case. Why would you apply for a job you clearly know you’re not qualified?
The job experience contained in your CV is ‘bar attendant’, ‘sales officer’ and ‘lab attendant’, then you go ahead to apply for the role of web content developer. How does that work? Even if you’re graduate of Mass Communication, I’ll send your CV to trash. Sorry.
Several times I’ve called on people who are unemployed, to take up jobs as guest writers, volunteers and others, where they would be paid little or nothing, but they gain experience which they would include in their CVs. This suggestion of mine has always been turned down. Everyone wants money, not experience. This is why they keep carrying empty CVs, applying for jobs that require experience and having their CVs sent to trash almost all the time.
The most annoying part of my experience was when I felt really insulted. How on earth will you send your CV to multiple companies at the same time? First, you’re not qualified, then I see you sent your CV to my company, Dangote, FCMB and Chrisland schools’ recruitment email. This is just wrong. You don’t even stop there, you go ahead to send it with a funny subject like – ‘Here! My CV, for employment’.
Another version of this was the one who forwarded the application email he had just sent to another company. It doesn’t end there, the CV wasn’t in Microsoft word format, not in PDF, but pasted in the body of the email. Yes. That’s how bad it was.
You see, when the HR manager or whoever is receiving CVs get 20+ mails from unqualified individuals, the next question that comes to mind is, “Can I just get a few qualified applicants”? The moment about 5 qualified CVs arrive, that’s almost always the end of the show. If the HR is not as impatient as I am, he or she might decide to go through the frustrating experience of opening another 20+ unqualified CVs in a bid to wait for 5 more qualified applicants.
This is what happens when you’re qualified but never get called. There are tons of people applying, 80 percent of the CVs are empty and unqualified. Once the HR gets 5 percent of qualified applicants that he needs, the door closes and the remaining CVs might never get opened because it’s frustrating to open yet another scary document.
Again, I’m not a HR, but I have acted it, and it’s really frustrating to receive CVs. You’re 31 years of age, meaning you must have finished your Secondary School education many years ago. There’s no argument about that because you graduated from the University in 2009. Secondary School will definitely be a long time ago. Now, why bring it into your CV that you were a time keeper during your Secondary School days? Who cares about that? Does it relate to the job you’re applying for? Even if it does, no one will take a look at that.
Qualification and experience is stated in job ads, pay attention. Applying for jobs doesn’t mean sending your CV to whatever recruitment email you come across. It’s a serious business! If your job application is not a serious business for you, it is for the HR. Don’t go about getting phone numbers from the websites of companies who place job ads. This might sound strange, but it’s real. You come across a job ad you’re qualified for, and instead of sending your CV to the email provided, you go ahead to the company’s website, pick a phone number that was provided for inquiry purpose and then call to give unwanted ‘gists’ about how qualified you are for the role. No one is interested. Save your airtime and send your CV!
The job recruitment and application process is just crazy! From just one job ad, over a 100 CVs are received. How about a solution? There should probably be a way to close the mailboxes after a maximum number of CVs has been received. It’s really frustrating for the HR, and also frustrating for you to keep applying for jobs month after month without feedback. Save your CV from a life in the trash folder. Get experience! Read the job ad over and over again to know if your qualification and experience fit! Make things easy for yourself and whoever is receiving the CVs.
You’re probably asking how on earth you’ll get experience if you don’t get employed? There are tons of jobs that do not require experience, take advantage of them and respect the wish of those who seek experienced applicants. I had fun receiving CVs as a pretend HR, but at this point, it’s no longer fun. The mailbox is weeping, and as frustrated as I am. Tell those still applying that it’s all over. Let them know they’ll never get a feedback. In fact, inform them that successful applicants have not only been selected, they’ve also resumed work.
All the best in your job search!
http://houseofmo.com/diary-of-a-pretend-hr/ Lmao. If you did the right thing, you'd probably have a job too but hey!!!... |
