Eden Hazard appeared for the first at the Santiago Bernabéu as a Real Madrid player, and received a warm welcome from the Madrid faithful. Hazard still does not have a shirt number, however, and told a short story about a conversation with Luka Modric over the number 10 shirt.

Right after he was presented in front of an excited crowd at the Bernabéu, Real Madrid’s new star was asked at a press conference about what number shirt he will wear at ‘Los Blancos’.

Hazard, who wore the number 10 during his time at Chelsea, revealed that he spoke to Luka Modric to ask him, jokingly, if he would give up the number 10 shirt. In fact, the Belgian’s shirt is already for sale…but without a number.

The Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission has described the claim by the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, that he was not the accounting officer of the Kano Emirate Council as a misrepresentation of facts.

This is contained in a preliminary report of the Commission on the investigation being carried out in respect of the alleged misappropriation of over N3.4 billion by the Kano Emirate Council.
The report was signed by the commission’s Chairman, Mr Muhuyi Magaji, a copy of which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Thursday.

The report with reference number PCAC/GEN/6/VOL.I dated June 11, 2019 was addressed to the Secretary to the State Government.

Part of the report reads: “In furtherance to the Commission’s earlier communication No. PCAC/GEN/6/V.I dated 31st May, 2019 on the above subject matter and the unfolding events, the Commission deemed it necessary to make some clarifications as follows:-

“It is imperative to state categorically that, the Commission’s investigation is on alleged misappropriation and questionable expenditures but not on the funds left behind by the Late Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero and we still maintain our stance.

“In the cause of investigation we undertook an analysis of the main Account belonging to Kano Emirate Council and domicile at First Bank with account No. 2005888452 starting from the era of the Late Emir to enable the Commission have an idea of how the money is being managed.”

According to the report, there were 783 activities bordering on withdrawals, transfers and placements from Jan. 2, 2013 to June 6, 2014 during the time of the late Emir.

“As from 2nd January 2013 to 13th April, 2017 the opening balance is N432,338,412.98. Total credit made in the account during this period was N6,784,146,335.73 while the total debit during the period under review is N7,209,035,163.09.” It said.

However, it added that, “The closing balance as at April, 2017 is N7,449,585.62.”

It further indicated that “on Feb.13, 2014 and Feb. 26, 2014 payments were made to Philko Ltd, the company said to have undertook the construction of Ado Bayero Royal City via Inter Bank transfers of the sum of N776,159,519.50.

“There were transfers of N388,079,759.75, N338,079,759.75 and N50,000,000.00 made on Feb. 13, 2014 and Feb. 26, 2014 respectively; making the total quoted figures for Philko Ltd.”

The report also alleged that during the period, fixed deposit placements were made to the tune of N581,884,729.54 (placement and rollovers) while net withdrawals on some engagements both cash and withdrawal stood at N1,056,533,728.31.

“In summary, the total withdrawal made from the Account under the Late Emir was N2,414,577,977.35, subtracting this amount from total debit on the account which is N7,209,035,163.09.

“It is evidently clear that the current Emir is responsible for the expenditures to the total sum of N4,794,457,185.74 from the Emirate Council Account domicile in First Bank Plc,” it said.

Similarly, it alleged that all the expenditures made by the Emirate Council were either based on the approval or instructions of Emir Sanusi.

It attached copy of a payment voucher in respect of one of the withdrawals to buttress its claim, which reads, “Being payment to the above named in respect of making special prayers for peace as directed by H.H. Emir of Kano respectively”.

“Therefore, any claim that the Emir is not the accounting officer of the Kano Emirate Council is a deception and a misrepresentation of facts.

“Specifically, the reason of our recommendation for the suspension apart from obstruction of investigation which formed the basis, investigation further reveals that Rufa’i Buhari (Senior Accountant) usually made cash
withdrawals directly from the account and change it to Dollars on behalf of the Emir.

“Sometimes direct transfers from the account are made to a Bureau De Change belonging to one Jazuli Sani who was said to have died.

“The Commission still maintain the allegation on unappropriated, seemingly personal expenditures, making the total sum of questionable expenditures uncovered by this investigation to the tune of N3,432,090,797.94 only”, the report added.

Eden Hazard says he is thrilled to have the opportunity to play for his “idol” Zinedine Zidane as he begins life at Real Madrid.

Hazard recently completed his long-awaited move to the Santiago Bernabeu as he finalized a €100 million (£88m/$112m) move from Chelsea last week after months of speculation that he was destined for a move to the La Liga club.

The Belgium winger was formally presented to Real Madrid supporters on Thursday as he was unveiled at the stadium in front of 50,000 fans.

Now that the move is finally official, Hazard says he is excited about the prospect of playing under Zidane, who returned to the club to take the reigns once again this past season, just months after departing following three consecutive Champions League titles.

“Everyone knows that Zidane was my idol since childhood and the fact that he is a Real Madrid coach has been an important factor,” Hazard said at his unveiling on Thursday.

“But not only that, I already wanted to play in the club. ”

Hazard was already recognized as one of the world’s top players during his stint at Chelsea, where he finished with 21 goals in 57 appearances this season while leading the Premier League side to a Europa League title.

In total, Hazard scored 110 goals in 352 matches in Chelsea blue, earning two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a League Cup and two Europa League crowns.

Now at Real Madrid, Hazard has been pegged as a potential Ballon d’Or contender, as stepping into the Los Blancos lineup is a move that many believe will elevate his status.

But the winger says he is not yet concerned with individual awards, but fitting in with the team, which includes reigning Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric.

“What I can say is that the Ballon D’Or is already in Madrid with Luka Modric,” Hazard said. ”

“I don’t know if it will be easier, it will depend on how well do we play.

“It’s true that in the past years almost all of them have been for Real Madrid, but I don’t think about the Ballon D’Or, I think about the team, on winning titles.

“It’s a good thing for me, it’s good for my family too. We are all excited, my mother a little more. It’s an incredible pleasure, I’m looking forward to the season and I think everything will go very well.”

Antoine Griezmann will sign for Barcelona this summer, Atletico Madrid’s CEO, Gil Martin, has confirmed.

According to him, the club knew Griezmann would be joining their LaLiga rivals since March.

“We know since last March that Griezmann is going to Barcelona,” he told to Sport.
DAILY POST reported last month, that Griezmann informed Atletico that he will deposit his €120m release clause in July.

The player’s release clause is currently €200million, after he signed a new contract with Atletico just last summer.

However, that figure drops to €120m euros from July 1.

LOS ANGELES, United States – A Marvel fan in the United States is doing his part to help “Avengers: Endgame” become the highest grossing movie in history — he’s seen the superhero blockbuster a whopping 110 times, possibly setting a new Guinness record.

“I work 10 hours, watch end game 2 times on weekdays at least 6 hours,” said Agustin Alanis in a message on Twitter on Monday that was accompanied by a picture of himself and a theater attendant holding his 110th ticket stub for the movie.

Alanis’ feat beats another record set last year by Anthony Mitchell, who saw “Avengers: Infinity War” 103 times, which got him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records and a trip to the “Endgame” set.

Alanis, who lives in Florida, has been chronicling his trips to see the movie on Twitter, posting a picture of himself at each viewing with his ticket stub.

The latest mega-blockbuster from Marvel Studios has earned a worldwide total of $2.732 billion at the box office so far, putting it within range of beating “Avatar,” which raked in $2.788 billion to become the highest-grossing movie of all time.

The hugely-anticipated Avengers series-ender earned a staggering $1.2 billion on its opening weekend at the end of April and has since continued its massive box office run.

Industry watchers, however, say the movie has begun to lose steam with viewers and may end up in the number 2 spot for the foreseeable future — possibly until an eventual re-release.

Two Giraffes Killed By Lightning In Florida Park

MIAMI, United States – Two giraffes were killed instantly when they were struck by lightning in the southeastern US state of Florida, the park where they resided said Tuesday.

“We are deeply saddened to share the passing of 2 of our giraffe due to a lightning strike,” the Lion Country Safari park, which is located north of Miami, said in a Facebook post.

“Lily and Jioni were in the pasture in their habitat when a severe thunderstorm quickly developed 6 weeks ago. Recent pathology results confirm that the giraffe did pass as a result of the lightning and that the manner of their passing was instantaneous,” it said.

The park said that the giraffes have access to “numerous shelters in the multi-acre habitat.”

But “if they don’t choose to seek shelter, there isn’t a lot we can do to encourage them to,” park spokesperson Haley Passeser told the local WPTV channel.

With the death of the 2 giraffes, a male and a female, there are 18 remaining in the park.

A military officer, identified as Major A.N Efam, has lost his life, following an auto crash inside the Ojo military cantonment in Lagos.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Monday, May 20, 2019. One Major M.A Tombri was said to be driving out when Efam hit him from the rear and his car caught fire immediately.

However, before help could come, he was burnt beyond recognition. The fire was later extinguished and the corpse of Major Efam was retrieved.

Head coach Massimiliano Allegri will leave Serie A champions Juventus at the end of the season.

The 51-year-old Italian has won the league title in each of his five seasons since taking charge in 2014.

Though Juventus, who signed Cristiano Ronaldo last summer for £99.2m, retained the title, their season was considered a disappointment as they could only reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

The Old Lady have two league games remaining this season, starting with Atalanta at home on Sunday before a final game at Sampdoria on 26 May.

Last week Allegri said he was “amused” at rumours suggesting he would leave Juventus, Serie A champions for the past eight seasons.

“I enjoy reading and hearing everything,” he said at the time.

“Next week I will meet with the president. We will be speaking in general terms, as we do every year. Before Ajax I told him I would stay.”

Allegri and club president Andrea Agnelli are set to speak at a news conference on Saturday.

A statement released by Grumpy Cat’s owners read:

‘We are unimaginably heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved Grumpy Cat.

‘Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome.

‘She passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha.

‘Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world – even when times were tough.’ ‘Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.’
