3) COMMUNICATION: Husband and wife are meant to talk to each other in a free and respectful manner. It is natural that people share freely with those that talk with them. In marriage, husband and wife must be ready to discuss. I am not talking about complaints. Couples should be ready to communicate and stop complaining. No matter how tight our schedules are, time should be given for sincere discussions. I discovered that those things we don't want to discuss are the very thing that kill our home and marriages. Please if you want to keep your home fine, be open and ready to communicate.
4)UNDERSTANDING: Some people expect perfection from their spouse. Husband and wife should know that their partner is not an angel. Husband and wife should know that though joined together, they are still two individual people with personal emotion, character and so on.
There are some habits your spouse is used to that may not be alright with you. You can't force him or her to stop it automatically. It wasn't formed in a day and it will equally need some good time to stop it. There are occasions where the husband and wife have different cultural backgrounds. It will not be all right to impose his / her on the other but they can easily resolve whatever differences they are having through understanding.
5)TOLERANCE: The major problem some couples are having is lack of ability to tolerate each other. They complain about everything their partners are doing. Complaint will not solve the problem. The fact is that you can only tolerate your spouse when you understand him/ her. Tolerance is ability to bear each other.
It is a pity today that some men tolerate their secretaries in the office and not their wives. Husbands tolerate your wives, wives tolerate your husbands. When you tolerate each other, you will go along easily. There will be less of friction and peace will reign.

Getting married is one thing and making it work or worthwhile is another thing. A lot of couples out there are really passing through hard times in their marriages/marital lives. I was once told of a man praying for the death of his wife just as to free him from the terrible situation since he cannot divorce the wife as a believer.
Some, had it be they can get a second chance to remarry, will not marry their present spouse. Perhaps you are even one of them. Marriage is just like cooking soup. To get the best taste, the ingredients must be mixed proportionally. Your marriage is what you want it to be.
Now,lets look into the ingredients.
1) GOD: The first ingredient in any successful marriage is God. God is the author of marriage and there is no way a user can be know better than the manufacturer. You must start with God and continue with God. Take the case in John chapter 4 for instance. This couple had a right foundation by inviting Jesus at the very beginning.
2) LOVE: Love is to marriage what salt is to soup. As some people abandon God in their home so is love equally abandoned. God is love. I have seen many families that expresses love in wonderful ways at the beginning only to let slip off later.
One thing I want to say is that is active and not passive, which means that love is action. Husbands must swallow every pride and love their wives. Love is reciprocal. Every human being respond to love. Every woman wants to hear " I love you" as often as possible from her husband. It doesn't cost anything to say it and mean it. Let it show in your character that you really love her.
