[color=deeppink]Akure — Deji of Akure Oba Oluwadare Adesina Adepoju was yesterday quizzed by police detectives over his alleged role in the street fight with his estranged wife, Olori Bolanle last Sunday.

His interrogation came a few days after the Senate summoned the Inspector General of Police Mr. Ogbonna Onovo to the National Assembly on the issue.

The Senate had invited Mr. Onovo to come and explain why the Akure monarch had not been apprehended by the police

Daily Champion learnt that the detectives from the Ondo State Police Command quizzed the Akure monarch for over two hours.

A police source, however said the Akure monarch was interrogated inside his palace following an order from the police headquarters, Abuja .

The source said detectives are expected to give detailed report of their investigation to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further action.

Meanwhile, the crisis rocking the Deji of Akure's alleged street brawl assumed another dimension yesterday as some kingmakers and chiefs faulted the call for the deposition of the Akure monarch.

The chiefs in a statement issued and made available to reporters insisted that they had commenced full investigation into the matter and would base it on tradition and due process rather than sentiment. The statement read: "We cannot support such call for the dethronement of Deji, because it lacks due process and did not give the monarch fair hearing". They said since the state government had queried the traditional ruler who is expected to give his own version of story today, people should exercise moderation and wait for his response. The Council of Chiefs accused four Akure High Chiefs, Bolanle Adedipe (Elemo), Ayo Oluyide (Ojomu), Chief Adebayo (Sao) and High Chief Folorunso Davies (Lisa) of being biased in their action.

"These community leaders are supposed to be part and percel of Akure Council of Chiefs and kingmakers that should have been the appropriate channels to deal with the matter as custodians of Akure traditions and customs," they said.

The kingmakers and chiefs therefore urged Governor Olusegun Mimiko to give some few days as grace period to allow thorough investigation into the matter according to the tradition of the land.[/color]
