The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) has announced that the Shari’ah Compliant Index would be inaugurated on Monday, July 30. NSE said that the plans followed their signing of a memorandum of understanding with Lotus Capital Ltd. for the development and management of a certified Shari’ah Compliant Index. The Islamic Equity Index known as the ``NSE Lotus Islamic Index’’ (with the code NSE LII) will be for only companies that meet the principles of Shari’ah. The NSE LII, which is the first index created to track the performance of Shari’ah compliant equities on the floor of the bourse, will increase the breadth of the market and create a benchmark for investments as the alternative non-interest investment space widens. Osahon Aire, NSE’s Project Manager for the NSE LII launch, said that investment instruments like Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) could be built on the Index which investors with a preference for ethical/Shari'ah compliant investments could invest in. He said also that the inauguration would tactically aid the development of the market. ``The NSE Lotus Islamic Index would further illuminate the massive investment opportunities available to ethically minded investors, both in Nigeria and overseas. All the companies that would appear on the Index have been thoroughly screened by Lotus Capital Halal Investment, in accordance with a methodology approved by an internationally recognised Shari’ah Advisory Board comprising renowned Islamic scholars,” Osahon said. The Project Manager said that the inauguration of the Index was an exciting development that was in line with NSE’s mandate of broadening and deepening the Nigerian Capital Market. The Lotus Capital was founded in June 2004 with the specific objective of meeting the investment needs of ethical individuals, businesses and organisations across West Africa. It is a full-service of HalalInvestment Management Boutique, specialising in Shari’ah compliant Asset Management, Private Wealth Management Advisory Services and Financial Advisory Services. http://www.businessdayonline.com/NG/index.php/news/76-hot-topic/41892--nse-to-inaugurate-first-islamic-index-on-monday- |
Even Bishops are now seeing the benefits in this brand of banking. Follow the link for details- http://www.leadership.ng/nga/articles/28888/2012/07/04/bishop_urges_christians_embrace_noninterest_jaiz_bank.html |
Bishop Goodluck Akpore of the Christ Temple International Ministry, on Wednesday called on Christians to embrace and support the operations of Jaiz bank in the country. Jaiz bank is a non-interest bank licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to commence operation in the country. Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, National President of the Christians Association of Nigeria (NAN) had, in a statement, described the operation of the bank as a "total disregard" to the Nigerian Constitution, the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act of 1991, as amended. But Bishop Akpore who spoke at the 9th Annual General Meeting of Jaiz Bank Plc, in Abuja, urged Christians to embrace the bank's non-interest banking system. He described Jaiz bank as transparent and prudent judging by its financial report, adding that no bank in Nigeria could be bold to give a thorough and details analysis of its expenditures. "This is a thorough bank, I am a bishop, the highest authority in the Christian fold, I want to commend Central Bank of Nigeria for allowing the bank to stay and thereby encouraging all Christians to buy into the shares. "Jaiz Bank is what we need in this country, it is the epitome of what an ideal bank supposed to be, it is transparent and can enhance the confidence of the shareholders. " According to him, since the bank is established based on transparency and integrity, Christians should be encouraged to invest in the bank ''One thing that is important, don't forget this, what are the instruments that control the management and operations of this bank, what are the instrument for the conventional banks? ''You have CAMA, you have Investments and Securities Act (ISA) which is for Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Bank and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) 2011. ''These are the same instruments that are used today to operate these banks in this country, and this is what they are using, so what is the big deal.'' He said the position of the CAN president on the operation of Jaiz bank did not represent the general opinion of Christians. ''We have gone to meet him severally (CAN president Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor), and we have tried to tell them that what you have on your mind cannot be for me, I have my own opinion. Business is a personal issue. '' Let Christians go and establish Christian bank if it's possible, if you want to do it, you go and establish and this same people will come and invest. "Christians are not against this bank because it is not intended to foster the activities of Muslims, it intends to foster stability in the banking industry in Nigeria.'' The bishop, who is also the Chairman of the bank's shareholders association, Onitsha branch, urged the bank to include both Christians and Muslims in its board. He also advised the bank's management to embark on aggressive publicity to explain the basic operations of the bank to Nigerians. http://www.ipaidabribenaija.com/latest-news/read.php?id=5706 |

Although i am not a fan of Jonathan and his PDP but i have always wished and prayed for him to succeed as a leader so that the country will be better. I must salute GEJ for this giant leap. This is about giving hope to the poorest of the poor for a better future. More of this please!!! |
This video shows how Nigeria and Nigerians were respected by the world before now. I am sure you will be amazed by the simplicity and national pride that characterised our leaders in the first republic. Tafawa Balewa was no doubt an intelligent and highly eloquent leader. http://www.jfklibrary.org/Asset-Viewer/Archives/USG-1H.aspx |
I posted this article twice in the general section, hoping that the moderators will bring it to the front page to no avail. The first post seems to have been deleted. I suspect some prank plays on nairaland. thank you rabzy01 for bringing it to the fore. This Boko haram saga is becoming clearer by the day. Allah is exposing the treacheries of the true enemies of nigeria. |
http://dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=155762:jos-church-member-killed-in-error-relations-say&catid=2:lead-stories&Itemid=8 A man suspected to have been in company of the suicide bomber who struck a church in Jos on Sunday was killed in error by fellow worshippers as he was actually a church member and not an attacker, relations and authorities said yesterday. Mr. Adams Joseph Ashaba was lynched to death on the suspicion that he came along with the bomber and tried to escape just after the explosion at the Church of Christ in Nigeria headquarters. But the Special Task Force and the deceased’s relations yesterday said the late Ashaba went to the church along with his wife and two children to worship on Sunday, and he was mistaken to be together with the suicide bomber. “(The) alleged suicide bomber killed by the angry youths at the premises of the church on 26 Feb 2012 was identified as Adams Joseph Ashaba, a member of the church and not a suicide bomber as alleged,” spokesman for STF, Cpt. Mdahelya Markus, said in a statement in Jos yesterday. A cousin of the late Ashaba, Mr. Julius Autahaa, who spoke to newsmen on behalf of the family, confirmed that the body of the person he saw at the mortuary, brought by security agents on Sunday, was that of Ashaba. He said Ashaba went to the church with his family and that when the blast occurred, the wife quickly took the children home and came back to look for her husband. But she could not find him and so contacted other members of his family, he added. Autahaa said yesterday morning, somebody called them to come to the Jos University Teaching Hospital to identify a corpse. “When we got there, we were able to identify that he was our cousin who works at Spring Bank, through his nails since his face was battered,” he said. “We wanted to claim the body but we were directed to the STF because we were told we could not claim the body as he was one of the suspects in yesterday’s bombing.” He described his late cousin as light complexioned and of average height, just like the corpse. Ashaba’s colleague at the Jos branch of Enterprise Bank, Nasiru Bala, who went to the mortuary to inspect the corpse, also said it was that of Ashaba. He said identified the corpse by the size of the head. The COCIN church said at a separate briefing yesterday that one of the people injured in the blast later died in hospital, bringing to four the number of its members killed by the bombing. The church said at least 50 people, including state Information commissioner Mr. Abraham Yiljab, church warden Mr. Alhamis Gukas and Appolos Dabwang, were injured and are now being treated in different hospitals in Jos. President of COCIN, Rev. Soja Bewarang, said the church could have suffered more casualties if key elders like Governor Jonah Jang, Gen. Joshua Dogonyaro, Senator John Shagaya and Chief Solomon Lar were around. The youth wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, in a statement, said “our conclusion is that this is a well-crafted strategy by fundamentalist Islamic leaders and politicians to destabilise Nigeria as the serial attacks on Christians is often punctuated by isolated cases of attacks on Muslims to create a false impression that the attacks are against all of us.” Member of the House of Representatives Suleiman Kwande, in a statement, condemned the attack and appealed for calm. The COCIN church premises became a centre of attraction yesterday as people queued up to be allowed entrance to see the damages created by the blast. The Jos killing of a church member on suspicion of him being a bomber came few weeks after a Kaduna State director was similarly shot when he was mistaken for a suicide bomber. Pastor Isuwa Kiforo, a director in the Kaduna state Information ministry, was driving in to the government house when he was shot because he failed to stop for security checks. Days later, Kiforo died of injuries he sustained in the shooting. |

http://www.theoptimistvoice.com/archives/editorspage02252012.html The People Should Say Enough! , February 25, 2012 It is becoming increasingly clear from recent events that the game is over for Nigerian politicians who are hell bent on bringing the country down through carefully crafted schemes meant to incite the general public. For their self-interest and greed for power and money most especially, they are willing to sacrifice everything, the country and all, including their own mothers that nurtured them. Their schemes are increasingly becoming exposed for what they truly are. Why should people be persuaded against their conviction that all these issues appear to be a conspiracy against the Muslim majority as a ploy to force the minority Christians as overlords? The evidence is more than clear from what we see all around us nationally and globally. Which nations of the world are in turmoil today, as if to say they are the only nations that are misruled in the whole world, even if that notion is true for all of them. Why just them? As my fellow journalist Dr. Tilde once wrote in his article along the same line of thinking “these killings are happening unabated when the top echelon of the [Nigerian] country’s security apparatus is dominated by Christians: The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Goodluck Jonathan, is a Christian, just as are his Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, National Security Adviser and Director of State Security Services.” The incident of Church bombings in both cities of Bauchi and Jos Sunday should not be allowed to be brushed under the carpet by the authorities. The fact is all those apprehended in Bauchi are reported to be Christians. The suspected bombers are listed as Lamba Goma, Filibus Danasa, Joshua Ali, Danjuma Sabo, Joseph Audu, Simon Gabriel, Bulus Haruna, Yohanna Ishaya and Daniel Ayuba. And the fact that one of those arrested in connection with the bombing of their own mother Church in Bauchi, Daniel Ayuba a professed Christian “was the immediate past Secretary of PDP at Tilden Fulani Ward, Toro LGA, Bauchi State,” provides a strong political connection and the necessary trail leading to the ruling party of Nigeria the PDP. One very clear connection is the new Pastor of the COCIN Church bombed in Bauchi, who was recently transferred from the same COCIN Church in Jos where the other bombing occurred. There is undoubtedly some kind of connection between his being a Pastor at the two bombed Churches recently. And who dares teach Plateau State residents extremism in religious violence. We have severally pointed to the Jonathan Administration in this publication and several other areas we participate in news analysis, that the chosen style of bombing the nation into submission as the administration’s present covert agenda is wrong to the core. Though the present administration does not enjoy the monopoly on ethno-religious crisis used as a political tool in the most recent democratic dispensation since 1999, they have surely stood out like a sore thumb in bringing a new style that far exceeds the previous schemes in intensity. Bombing targets, people, and most recently religious institutions is unique to the Jonathan Administration and was launched into Nigerian Politics from October 2010 with the Independence Day bombing. Before October 2010, bombing as a means of politico-religious expression was never known, at least not in the Northern part of the country. Skirmishes do happen but are not settled by bombs. There is no doubt whatsoever, that one of the leading reasons for this turn-around is financial. Using and causing crisis and significant loss of human lives to solicit foreign sympathy in dollars and pound sterling appears to be increasingly becoming the reason for most inhumanity by man against his fellow being in Nigeria. It appears that Church bombing by its own worshippers may have turned into the new 419 scheme in Nigeria. Unsuspecting foreign worshippers, Churches, and religious institutions being milked dry of their resources trying to help others who may actually be the perpetrators of their own crime. This publication is aware of similar schemes in the past used politically and otherwise [including health-wise] in the United States by self-centered people and organizations to enrich themselves [in the name of fighting dictators and the AIDS menace]. A group by the name of NADECO, for example, used this scheme in the nineties politically within the corridors of power in the United States. Credible Nigerians should rise up to the occasion and take actions that will end these senseless killings and self-made crisis in the name of propaganda. No one should rely on the authorities, in my humble opinion. NGOs, Professional organizations, and other pressure groups should make these kinds of issues paramount in their lists of goals to accomplish. Never believe for one second, that those who are behind a scheme will be the ones who will willingly put a stop to it simply because the people demand it. It takes varying amount of pressure, exposition of their covert actions and an equal if not more mass awareness campaign to counter such politico-religious schemes. May the Almighty Creator of us all guide and continue to guard the weak and the vulnerable away from those who bulldoze their way into power unjustly, only to rule through schemes that demand incessant and reckless spilling of blood, sweat, destruction, and the termination of ordinary and unsuspecting people’s lives. And may their schemes continue to be exposed for what they truly are. |
Christians have robbed, kidnapped and killed people in the church before, it dosnt surprise me if they are trying to bomb the church now. Extremist are in all religions and cultures. It is possible that most of the bombs flying around in the north are the handiwork of CAN as once claimed by JNI. God will expose all the evil dooers |
This lend some credence to the claim by JNI that indeed CAN may be behind most of these bombings only to turn around to pretend victimhood. |
By Suzan Edeh BAUCHI - Seven persons have been arrested by the police in Bauchi state for attempting to attack a COCIN church with weapons and locally made explosives in Miya Barkatai village in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State. He said,“ It was a rival group within the church that decided to attack this morning. When we got the report, we sent our men,who arrested about seven members of the group. Alhamdulillah! I cant wait to begin business with this bank. I am done with the usury infested blood suckers. Thank you frosbel. |
People from the south drumming for reprisal attacks on the northerners in the South might not have travelled the length and breath of the north before. The Ibos in Kano alone are more than double the entire population of northerners in the SE and SS put together. We must all work hard to prevent evil from having upper hand on our humanity. The country is laden with great challenges today and that is not un-expected considering our complex nature. I believe we shall overcome them with time when we cultivate good leaders. |
The killing in Kano.

The rise of Islam in the western worlds is phenomenal in spite of oppressive tendencies of some of those countries. The truth of the matter is no one single mosque can contain the large number of Muslims in many countries. Russia for example officially allowed very few mosque in Moscow, in the last eid over 200,000 worshippers gathered for prayers. pls see the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1Kqh8cTi34&feature=related Now tell me which mosque can contain such a crowd? Rather than resorting to insults, Christian should mourn over their waning followership in Europe. |
Namadi is a hausa man. A hausa person is not just the one that has a father that is hausa but also those who lived in hausaland for a long time, married and got assimilated with the hausa people (See - <http://openlibrary.org/works/OL5980021W/The_Hausa_in_Lokoja_%281860-1966%29> . In this regards, the hausas are the most tolerant tribes ever. so it does not matter whether Namadi is originally an Ibo, Yoruba or Edo. |
The christian leaders are only trying as usual to be mischievious on this issue. I know Sheik Ahmed lemu personally because I served as his pa once. He was my boss for 3 years and we have always wondered why even at his advanced age he was very meticulous and organised. He is very principled. I remember even as the national president of IET, he paid for any services offered him by the organisation he co-founded with his wife. He is fearless and fair. I have no doubt if any one can do this job, it is Sheik even though I am not a fan of prove pannels which I know the government will dump. |
