Ttalk: Let me ask you, will metering of all houses that needs electricity increase the revenue of the distribution companies?
Yes or No I believe the answer to the question is YES. So another question is why hasn't metering been done for most of the electricity customers in Nigeria? |
Politics › Re: Lagos Licenses New Discos, Replaces Eko, Ikeja Electric by Mandem05: 6:09am On Oct 06, 2025 |
Ttalk: Look you are not talking to a novice, I operate is a sector of energy and I know what am saying.
No one is saying power should be given freely. But why are the disco unwilling to give people meter even when people are ready to pay for what is supposed to be free.
Mainwhile government have paid for these meters which supposed to be the responsibility of the power provider, yet the hoard it from customers.
If you don't know that distribution companies are exploiting 1. The government 2. The generation company 3. The customers Then you are not qualify to defend them. Chai!! You have raised a great point that I'd like to explore. When comparing USA electricity billing system where almost all the customers pay their bills, as opposed to the Nigerian electricity billing system that most Nigerians as subjected to (not by choice). The only thing that stands out to me is the fact that I practically all customers of the American electricity companies have meters that accounts for the electricity they use. As opposed to the estimated billing we have in Nigeria where basically you may not have had electricity all month but at the end of the month you have an electricity bill presented to you to pay. IF DISCOS were responsible companies the first task they would have undertaken would have been to provide prepaid electricity meters for their customers as it is done in some parts of UK. |

[quote author=nairalanda1 post=137030498]Yes, and most of your countrymen are not paying that high, and most of them are not paying at all....so consider this is part of why your bill may be that high.
Plus in USA...everyone pays their power bill...and please don't lie...I have people in the USA...and what they pay for power for a one bedroom flat in say New Jersey in one month is what people on band B pay in three months.
But when everyone pays their power bill, the profits increase and eventually prices will fall...see the GSM sector.
So, stop grumbling. We have to accept hard truths in this country. E get why Obasanjo and GEJ privatised power....government ownership was not working because government did not have the funds , before corruption came in to wreck havoc.
Again, we need 10 trillion naira annually for 10 years to get power for 24/7. Is any investor that is decent going to come in to a sector where 80% of the customer base are underpaying for power?
Lord knows, I wish we could have power at N10 per kwh. But that is fantasy[/quote)
Regarding everyone paying their power bill in USA, let's examine how this feat is achieved. Then let's compare their billing system to the current billing system that is prevalent in Nigeria. |

Jeje247: If there is allergy, you are supposed to discontinue taking all the drugs and take them back to the hospital. The nurses or doctor can easily sort out the drug likely to be causing a reaction and remove or substitute it Fine, so how would you know the name of the medication that caused the allergic reaction since the doctor doesn't need to tell you the name of the medications they prescribed for you |
Health › Re: Pharmacist Calls Out Hospitals Concealing Drug Names Issued To Their Patients by Mandem05: 5:01am On Jun 27, 2025 |
Jeje247: It is better for everyone in this kind of country to leave it that way. Nigerians like to cut corners alot. They will not bother to return to hospital for follow up if they know the name of the drug they are given. They will just go to the chemist shop to buy. And in the case they have similar symptoms or know someone complaining of such, they quickly tell them to buy that drug, not knowing that some symptoms might not be peculiar to same condition. They end up abusing the drug. Even here on NL, you see someone come on with one complaint and you see many people coming up with several suggestions of drug they used in the past. I have one question for you. Let's assume that you are prescribed 4 medications without the names of the medications being disclosed. If you have an allergic reaction to one of those meds, how would you identify which medicine caused the allergic reaction? |

Truvelisback: They don't especially private hospitals. I went with someone to a hospital do a test on a particular health problem. After the test, the doctor refused to give out the name of the drugs for treating the ailment. I was very annoyed after paying close to 12k for the test and hospital card. The doctor should be reported, they are not allowed to do that but they take advantage of the fact that most patients are uninformed of their rights and hence refuse to hold these quack doctors accountable. |

malali: She’s absolutely right, and dangerously overdue.
Giving patients medications without labeling the drug names is not just unethical—it’s life-threatening. Every human has the right to know what is being introduced into their body.
Unlabeled drugs: • Increase the risk of allergic reactions or drug interactions • Prevent patients from identifying side effects or long-term harm • Block accountability in case of errors or malpractice • Undermine pharmacovigilance and the right to informed consent
A hospital hiding drug identities is treating the patient like a passive object—not a human being.
Medicine without transparency is not healthcare. It’s gambling with lives. I couldn't have listed the possible issues that could be caused by this menace. This one of the issues that everyone should be complaining about if they see it being perpetrated. The culprits need to be dragged on social media until they start losing patronage and change their practice. |
Health › Re: Pharmacist Calls Out Hospitals Concealing Drug Names Issued To Their Patients by Mandem05: 4:22am On Jun 27, 2025 |
thesicilian: The practice of hiding the name of drugs from patients is dying out though, only a few hospitals stuck in the olden days do that nowadays. Dying out where?? In Mars or Pluto? Abeg let's try and be proactive if we want this practice to die out. Patients should start advocating for themselves and start calling out hospitals/pharmacies that engage in this practice. Maybe then we go begin see small changes. |

Agriculture › Re: Help Me Pepper Farmers by Mandem05: 6:10am On Mar 22, 2025 |
REUBEN010: Will be too hot/spicy to use for sauce. Over here at my location, the stew/sauce prepared by most South Westerners (buka/canteen inclusive) contains 60-70% rodo. If the pepper is too hot, the won't be able to use much and this impacts on the volume and aroma of the sauce.
I wouldn't want to laboriously produce the pepper just to struggle with sales. That's the major reason I prefer producing to satisfy existing demands. I get your point. I have some Carolina Reaper seeds and I would like to collaborate with a pepper farm to see if this can be grown in Nigeria.

I prefer cultivating crops that have existing demand in my selected market to avoid stories that touches the kidney and lungs after a successful hectic production. I don't think the growing process of a Carolina Reaper pepper plant would be too different from that of the scotch bonnet pepper that you grow currently. I think if the Carolina Reaper can be successfully grown in Nigeria, there would be a huge demand it. |
