I am just coming from another thread where someone is blaming witchcraft for road traffic accidents in NIgeria.

I have threads from way, way back on this platform where we all typed RIP to victims of completely avoidable road traffic accidents. We expressed our condolences on those threads - and we moved on. Years later - and nothing has changed.

On this very thread here, we have (yet again) numerous accounts of officials deliberately corrupting government policies and programmes - for personal gain. It is blatant. It is brazen. It is not a new thing. And as usual, government looks the other way.

Each day takes every one of us here on this thread - closer to the grave. Every one of us on this thread will pass away too. We are running out of time.

Unfortunately the rate at which our medical personnel in Nigeria disregard patient safety is alarming. The sad part is that even when patients complain about poor medical attention they receive at a medical facility nothing is done about.

A cousin of mine also took the loan and after four years,Nirsal started deducting it from his bank accts, infact with evidence he showed me,Nirsal did well, a 500k loan,5k each from both his first bank acct and uba bank monthly. But got to a point they stopped the automatic deductions. Guess what ? He recently approached a bank for 100m loan, his good credit score with the bank merited him 100 to 500m ,the said bank approached credit bureau office for his records and was discovered was still owning 180k,long story short, the bank asked him to approach Nirsal to pay back the remaining 180k so they could write credit bureau on his behalf so they could clear his name so his 100m could scale tru.

Contrastingly, the director na older gen trained in probably one of the federal/state universities and mentored to the top through a hierarchical and stern system with a no-nonsense approach. Gen-Zs find it EXTREMELY difficult working with such people because they dont have skins thick enough to take any criticisms, and rigid corrections. I would like to seek your opinions and advice on a very critical matter.

My friend and I work in a Nigerian Federal Teaching Hospital as health practitioners, in different departments. The director of my friend's department is making life extremely difficult for staff of the department. He calls staff unprinted names and insults them in the presence of patients and patients' relatives, which, to my understanding, is contrary to the standards expected in the public service.
No one appears to feel comfortable challenging or even making suggestions to him. He exercises significant control over staff entitlements, including the approval of leave, and sometimes verbally posts staff to different locations at his discretion. He has also reportedly told staff who are uncomfortable with his decisions to resign.

His conduct is also well known within the town where the hospital is located. Many people in the community have personally witnessed his hostile and demeaning treatment of his subordinates during visits to the hospital.

He has been reported to the CMD on several occasions, but nothing appears to have been done. Interestingly, he often boasts that nobody can remove him from his position as a Director.

My questions are:

1. What are the appropriate ways to checkmate or hold such a person accountable within the Nigerian public service system?

2. Has anyone here experienced something similar in a Federal Teaching Hospital or other government institution? If so, how was the situation eventually handled?

3. What formal channels can affected staff use when internal complaints to the CMD appear to have yielded no result?

I would particularly appreciate responses from people with experience in the Nigerian public service, Hospitals, HR/industrial relations, or public-sector administration.
