Foreign AffairsHas Iran Brought Down An ‘unkillable’ US F-35 Jet? by ManirBK(op): 2:39pm On Mar 23
After a United States F-35 fighter jet made an emergency landing at an airbase in the Middle East last week during the escalating US-Israeli war on Iran, two sources familiar with the matter told US media the jet had been struck by Iran as it returned from a combat mission – a claim Iranian state media also reported.

If true, this would be the first time during the war that an F-35, the cornerstone of Washington’s aerial firepower, has been struck by Iran.

What do we know about the incident?

After the F-35 stealth fighter jet made its emergency landing on Thursday, Captain Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM), said it had landed safely and the pilot was in a stable condition.

“This incident is under investigation,” Hawkins added without specifying why or where the aircraft had landed.

The same day, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement saying it had targeted a US aircraft.

According to a report on Sunday by Air & Space Forces Magazine, a publication that covers news on US air defence and national security issues, the pilot suffered shrapnel wounds. The report, which quoted unnamed sources with knowledge of the incident, said the aircraft was hit by ground fire.

Iran’s semiofficial Tasnim news agency released military footage that it said showed Tehran’s air defence systems hitting a US F-35 stealth fighter.

What is an F-35, and what’s so special about it?

The F-35 refers to a family of stealth strike fighters manufactured by the US aerospace company Lockheed Martin. Its official website bills the F-35 Lightning II – to give the plane its full name – as “the most advanced fighter jet in the world”.

Much of the plane’s reputation for air superiority comes from its combination of stealth technology, advanced sensors and high-speed computing.

The jet is engineered to be less detectable and able to gather more information on its surroundings than earlier generations of fighter jets, feeding data from a 360-degree camera suite and other sensors directly to the pilot.

Interactive_F35_ Jet F-35 Nov18_2025

“The key thing with F-35 is the radar suites,” John Phillips, a British safety, security and risk adviser and former military chief instructor, told Al Jazeera. Radar suites are a combination of hardware and software that are able to detect and analyse specific threats and facilitate a response to such threats.

“There isn’t a standard radar suite, and they vary by nation,” Phillips explained. “Rumours are that certain countries were only given certain radars [by the manufacturer]. This I believe is to counter attempts at foreign adversaries like China or Russia reverse engineering the technology.”

Several countries are partners with the US in manufacturing F-35s, including Australia, Canada, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom. They either manufacture certain components of the fighter jets or have facilities at which they assemble jets that their own governments will use.

Among the 20 countries that have also bought these jets are Japan, South Korea, the UK, Italy, Australia and Israel.

There are three types of Lightning II F-35s, all of which have weapons mounted internally to augment their stealth design.

The F-35A is the most common model and is most widely owned by other countries. It can take off and land on a regular runway, such as those used by commercial airliners.

The F-35B is used by Italy, Japan, Singapore, the UK and the US. It is capable of landing vertically like a helicopter and taking off from a very short runway, making it a good option for operating from short airstrips, in mountainous terrains, from beaches or from small islands.

The F-35C is a supersonic aircraft, meaning it can travel faster than sound waves. The US Navy has used this model for long-range stealth operations. So far, only the US Navy has this model. The US Marine Corps is also acquiring F-35C aircraft to operate alongside their own F-35Bs, according to Lockheed Martin. Unlike the F-35B, the F-35C needs a longer runway.

It is not known which of these three models of aircraft Iran claims to have shot down last week.

SonOfZeus:
I’m rooting for Iran. I love the US but when there’s injustice, I can’t be swayed by my love for one party and not tell the truth.

Iran has been on their own for decades, they were even in the middle of negotiations with the US but were stabbed in the back twice!!!

That’s just plain wrong and I can’t stand for it.

Iran pose no imminent threat to the US because they have no nuclear weapons, they were even negotiating… if we are looking at those that pose a threat to the US, North Korea and Russia are at the top of that list, so why didn’t the US go for them? Your guess is as good as mine.

Instead of these countries to condemn the illegal war by Isreal/US… they are busy faulting Irans right to self defense.

The most hypocritical ones are those Gulf states, you allowed US to hit Iran from your own country then cry foul when Iran sends a missile back to where the attack came from.

People will say I’m wrong but let’s call a spade a spade.

I can’t love Mama Nkechi as my neighbor when she allows Aunty Susan to come into her house and then start to distrupt the peace the entire compound has been enjoying, Aunty Susan will spill red oil in front of my door, beat my kids when I’m not home and also push my clothes off the line. I won’t sit back and let such happen because i “love” my Neighbor. Mind you, Mama Nkechi has never for one day cautioned her visitor Aunty Susan.

So by your logic, I should just fold my hands and watch Aunty Susan oppress me under the umbrella of my lovely neighbor? Even the US won’t let that happen.

Actions have reactions and consequences.

Those that want to pass the strait of Hormuz can do that as long as they aren’t US and Isreal, the aggressors.

(Remember, before this illegal war started, even under heavy sanctions by the US for decades!! Iran has never interrupted or even collected toll fee from ships that pass through the strait.)

Let’s see black and not call it white.

Foreign AffairsGermany Has A Shortage Of Workers - So It's Turning To India For Help by ManirBK(op): 8:39am On Mar 23
AI Summary:

Germany faces a severe skilled labor shortage as baby boomers retire and birth rates remain low—the country needs 288,000 foreign workers annually to prevent a 10% workforce decline by 2040. To address this, Germany is increasingly recruiting from India, which has 600 million people under 25 and a labor surplus.

The initiative began in 2021 when an Indian employment agency contacted the Freiburg Chamber of Skilled Crafts. Starting with 13 butchery apprentices in 2022, the program has grown to 200 Indian butchers, with 775 more apprentices arriving in 2025 across various trades.

A 2022 bilateral agreement facilitated this migration, and Germany recently increased its skilled work visa quota for Indians from 20,000 to 90,000 annually. Indian workers in Germany grew from 23,320 in 2015 to 136,670 in 2024.

Iran has threatened to hit energy sites in the Middle East after United States President Donald Trump threatened to attack its power plants if Tehran does not open the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Critical infrastructure and energy facilities in the region could be “irreversibly destroyed” should Iranian power plants be targeted, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said in comments posted on ‌X on Sunday.

Immediately after power plants and infrastructure in our country are targeted, vital infrastructure as well as energy and oil infrastructure across the entire region will be considered legitimate targets and will be irreversibly destroyed,” Ghalibaf posted.

Qalibaf said regional infrastructure would become “legitimate targets” should Iran’s facilities be hit, and that its retaliation would increase ‌the price of oil “for a ‌long time”.

His comments came after Trump on Saturday said the US will “obliterate” Iran’s power plants if it doesn’t open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said later on Sunday that the waterway was “open to all except those who violate our soil”.

“The illusion of erasing Iran from the map shows desperation against the will of a history-making nation. Threats and terror only strengthen our unity,” he said in a post on X.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also insisted that the waterway was “not closed”, indicating in comments on X that the US and Israel were responsible for the recent disruption.

“Ships hesitate because insurers fear the war of choice you initiated – not Iran,” he said. “No insurer – and no Iranian – will be swayed by more threats.”

Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it would completely shut the Strait of Hormuz if Trump executes threats to target Iranian energy facilities.

In a statement, the IRGC said companies with US shares will be “completely destroyed” if Iranian energy facilities were targeted by ‌Washington and energy facilities in countries that host US ‌bases ‌will be “lawful” targets.

Iran, which has effectively blockaded the Strait of Hormuz since the US and Israel attacked the country on February 28, says the key waterway is already open – except to the US and its allies.

The strait remains open to all shipping except vessels linked to “Iran’s enemies”, Iran’s representative to the International Maritime Organization was quoted as saying in Iranian media reports published on Sunday.

The closure of the strait, a narrow choke point that carries around a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies, has caused the worst oil crisis since the 1970s.

The United States has deployed multiple MQ-9 drones alongside around 200 troops to Nigeria to provide intelligence and training support to the Nigerian military in its ongoing fight against insurgents across the northern region.

The operation is strictly focused on surveillance and advisory support, with no US personnel embedded in frontline units and no drone airstrikes being conducted.

“The U.S. military has multiple MQ-9 drones operating in Nigeria alongside 200 troops to provide training and intelligence support to the military,” U.S. and Nigerian officials told Reuters.

According to Reuters on Saturday, the deployment was requested by Nigerian authorities to help identify, track, and respond to terrorist threats in the region.

Foreign AffairsIranian Strikes On Bases Used By US Caused $800m In Damage, New Analysis Shows by ManirBK(op): 9:36am On Mar 21
Iranian strikes on military bases used by the US in the Middle East caused about $800m (£600m) in damage in the first two weeks of the war, a new analysis shows.

Much of the damage was caused in initial retaliatory strikes by Iran in the week after the US and Israel launched the war, according to a report by the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) and an analysis by the BBC.

The full extent of the damage caused by Iranian strikes on US assets in the region is not clear.

But the $800m in estimated damage to US military infrastructure - a figure that's higher than has been previously reported - offers a picture of the steep costs to the US as the conflict drags on.

"The damage to US bases in the region has been underreported," said Mark Cancian, a CSIS senior adviser and co-author of the think tank study. "Although that appears to be extensive, the full amount won't be known until more information is available."

In response to a request for comment, the US Department of Defense referred the BBC to US Central Command, which is leading the war. Officials there declined to comment.

Iran's retaliatory strikes targeted US air-defence and satellite-communication systems, among other assets, in Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and other countries across the Middle East.

A significant portion of damage was caused by a strike on a US radar for a Thaad missile defence system at an air base in Jordan.

The AN/TPY-2 radar system costs approximately $485m according to a CSIS review of defence department budget documents. The air-defence systems are used for the long-range interception of ballistic missiles.

Strikes by Iran caused an additional $310m in estimated damage to buildings, facilities and other infrastructure on US bases and military bases used by American forces in the region.

Iran also has struck at least three air bases more than once, according to an analysis of satellite imagery by BBC Verify. The repeat strikes underscore Iran's efforts to target specific US assets. Russia has reportedly shared intelligence with Tehran on American military forces in the region.

Satellite imagery shows the three air bases - Ali Al-Salim base in Kuwait, Al-Udeid in Qatar and Prince Sultan in Saudi Arabia - with fresh damage appearing during different phases of the conflict.

The US has also lost 13 military service members since President Donald Trump joined Israel in launching the attacks on Iran on 28 February.

The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (Hrana) estimates the overall death toll has reached nearly 3,200, including 1,400 civilians.

Trump has said the US is on track to achieve his goals of destroying Iran's nuclear program, degrading its conventional military power, and ending the regime's support for proxy groups in the region.

"We're doing extremely well in Iran," Trump said at a White House event on Friday.

But the war has rattled the global economy with the near-closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and uncertainty over the duration of the conflict and whether Trump will deploy ground troops.
Analysis of satellite imagery has been hampered by restrictions imposed by major US-based providers on the release of the imagery.

But it is possible to discern certain patterns in Iran's retaliatory action against US military interests in the region.

Radar and satellite systems have been a focus from the start, when Iranian strikes hit a US naval base in Bahrain. They function as the eyes and ears of modern military operations.

Satellite imagery most notably showed the destruction of two radomes - protective enclosures for such sensitive equipment. It is highly probable the systems themselves were damaged, although it is not possible to gauge the extent.

Radar sites were hit at Camp Arifjan, a US military facility in Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia's Prince Sultan Air Base, where US aircraft are located. Imagery of the latter shows smoke rising from a radar component for a Thaad air-defence system.

More extensive damage to Thaad systems is evident at US bases in the UAE and Jordan. It's unclear what the cost of that damage was. The degradation of these systems reportedly led the US to redeploy Thaad components from South Korea to the Middle East.

The damage from Iran's retaliatory strikes account for a fraction of the overall costs to the US for the war.

Defense department officials reportedly briefed members of Congress that the first six days of the war had cost $11.3bn. The first 12 days cost 16.5bn, according to CSIS.

The Pentagon is asking for another $200bn in funding for the war. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Thursday that the figure "could move."

Israeli PM Netanyahu Sparks Outrage After Comparing Jesus Christ With Warlord Genghis Khan Amid Iranian War

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has come under fire after drawing a controversial comparison between Jesus Christ and Genghis Khan, the founder and first khan of the Mongol Empire.

Netanyahu has made the comparison during a press conference while defending ongoing military actions against Iran.

The remarks, delivered in both Hebrew and English, were made as Netanyahu sought to justify continued military coordination with the United States and warn of the global risks posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

While emphasising the need for strength in confronting perceived threats, the Israeli leader referenced a historical argument suggesting that moral virtue alone is insufficient in the face of aggression.

Paraphrasing American historian Will Durant, Netanyahu said, “History proves that, unfortunately and unhappily, Jesus Christ has no advantage over Genghis Khan. Because if you are strong enough, ruthless enough, powerful enough, evil will overcome good. Aggression will overcome moderation.”

The comparison quickly drew criticism from religious groups and political commentators, many of whom viewed the juxtaposition of Jesus Christ — revered by billions as a symbol of peace — with Genghis Khan, known for his conquests and brutality, as offensive and inappropriate.

Netanyahu later indicated that no offense was intended, suggesting the remark was meant to underscore the dangers of weakness in a hostile world.

The controversy emerged amid heightened tensions over the military conflict involving Iran, which has also divided opinion in the United States. Supporters of the intervention argue it is necessary for national security, while critics warn against deeper involvement in another Middle East conflict without clear objectives or an exit strategy.

During his prepared remarks, Netanyahu praised U.S. President Donald Trump for his role in supporting the campaign.

“President Trump always makes his decisions on what he thinks is good for America, and may I add, I think what is also good for future generations,” Netanyahu said.

“The world owes a debt of deep indebtedness, deep indebtedness, to President Trump for leading this effort to safeguard our future.”

Responding to questions from reporters, Netanyahu doubled down on the need for decisive action, arguing that moral clarity without strength is ineffective in modern geopolitics.

“You know, if people want to be naive, then they don’t see the kind of world we’re living in. In this world, it’s not enough to be moral. It’s not enough to be just. It’s not enough to be right,” he said.

He added that democracies, particularly those led by the United States, must act before threats escalate beyond control.

“So you have no choice. If you look at the world as it is today, you have to be blind not to see that the democracies led by the United States have to reassert their will to defend themselves,” Netanyahu said.

“And to oppose their enemies in time, while there’s still time, before the jarring gong of danger wakes them up and wakes them up too late. This is where we are now.”

The Israeli leader concluded by stressing the need for military strength, warning that failure to act decisively could have dire consequences.

“We have to be armed. We have to be more powerful than the barbarians, or they will not be merely at the gate. They’ll crash our gates and destroy our societies,” he said.

“That’s what Israel is doing now with the United States. And I’m very proud of the fact that the Israeli people are standing strong, that the Israeli army is standing strong.”

Nethanyahu later attempted to play down the comments, stating that he was misquoted after facing backlash online.

“More fake news about my attitude towards Christians, who are protected and flourish in Israel,” Netanyahu said in a statement on X. “Let me be clear: I did not denigrate Jesus Christ at my news conference this evening.”

"To the contrary, I cited the great American historian Will Durant. A fervent admirer of Jesus Christ, Durant stated that morality by itself is not enough to ensure survival,” said Netanyahu.

“A morally superior civilisation may still fall to a ruthless enemy if it does not have the power to defend itself,” he concluded. “No offense was meant.”

His comments come amid pressure on the United States and Israel to halt the ongoing war in Iran, with critics citing impacts on the globe and continually deaths through air strikes.

Bandits operating in parts of Kebbi South have demanded N100 million from Utouno community in Ngaski Local Government Area, threatening to launch an attack if their demand is not met.

The demand was reportedly conveyed through a letter addressed to the community leaders.

The threat comes amid growing security concerns in parts of Kebbi and neighbouring states, where armed groups have carried out deadly raids, kidnappings, and extortion in rural communities.

In the letter, the group warned residents not to treat the message lightly.

“This is not a joke. You must pay us N100 million. If you refuse, you will face the consequences and have no one to blame but yourselves. Even if you call soldiers, they cannot stop us,” the letter read.

The group also referenced a previous attack on the Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, where several people were reportedly killed after a similar warning was ignored.

Residents confirmed receipt of the letter, which they said has thrown the community into panic.

A resident, Abbas Alkali, said, “Yes, they wrote to us demanding N100 million from our community. Everyone is now living in fear because of the threat to attack us if we fail to meet their demand.

“The matter has been reported to the local government chairman, and I learnt that the state government and security agencies are taking measures to address the threat.

“We are not leaving anything to chance. We know they may come as they promised. Some people have already left for safer communities out of fear, but those of us who have nowhere to go will remain and continue to pray to Allah for our safety,” he said.

Malam Sa’ad Suleiman, a tailor, also told our correspondent that residents are deeply worried about the development.

“The letter was not addressed to any cleric; it was addressed to the community leaders. It is unfortunate that people are becoming apprehensive because of this threat, especially during this period of Ramadan.

“The government should provide the necessary security for us because they may attack at any time,” he said.

He added that the bandits sent the letter seven days ago and that since then, tension has gripped the community, with many residents unable to sleep peacefully.

Also speaking, a community leader, Malam Ibrahim Bello, said the residents are not taking the threat lightly because they believe the bandits are serious about carrying it out.

“They warned us to take their plan to attack our community seriously. We believe they may come as they said, but we have nowhere else to go. We appeal to the government to deploy soldiers to protect us.

“We were told the government is taking action, but we want them to come quickly because the attackers may strike at any time,” he said.

“People are scared. The mention of what happened in Woro in Kwara State has made the threat even more frightening. Many families are already discussing safety plans in case anything happens,” another resident, who preferred not to be named, said.

Confirming the letter, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, said the state government has swung into action to forestall any possible attack.

“I just spoke with the Director of Security. He confirmed the information and said security personnel have been deployed to the area,” he said.

He added that the government is not treating the threat lightly.

“The government, in collaboration with security agencies, has deployed personnel to the area, including air surveillance.

“I am sure you are aware that the state government is not compromising on the security of the state. His Excellency has been proactive on security matters, and this situation will not be an exception,” he said.

Sources further disclosed that security presence has been reinforced around the community and neighbouring settlements, while residents remain on high alert amid fears of a possible attack.

Police repel Lakurawa attack at Maje border

The Kebbi State Police Command on Sunday said security operatives along the Maje border road were attacked by armed bandits suspected to be members of the Lakurawa criminal network.

In a statement, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, said the attackers moved a herd of cattle at night, using it to conceal their approach.

Usman said Police Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) operatives engaged the attackers and forced them to retreat.

He said some temporary security structures were damaged, but no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded.

Security along the border has been reinforced, and the area is calm and fully under control, he added.

The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, Umar Mohammed Hadeija, urged residents, especially herders and livestock owners, to avoid night movement of cattle in ways that could be exploited by criminals.

Security agencies will take firm and lawful action against any unlawful activity or suspicious movement associated with night grazing, he added.

Recent attacks in Kebbi

Lakurawa terrorists have launched a series of attacks on communities in Kebbi State, killing several residents and abducting others.

Last week, the terrorists attacked eight communities in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing over 30 people during coordinated raids on the villages.

The affected communities include Masama, Mamunu, Kamzo, Awashaka, Tungar Bature, Dan Mai Rago, Tungar Tsoho, and Gorin Dena, all located within the local government area.

Residents of the communities reportedly mobilised in response to the invasion, leading to a deadly confrontation. However, they were ultimately overpowered by the assailants.

Police said preliminary investigations confirmed that armed Lakurawa militants invaded the area to rustle cattle.

Bashir, police spokesperson in the state, said incidents involving armed criminal elements require coordinated security intervention to prevent further escalation.

Last year, the group carried out a similar night assault, setting ablaze 15 communities in Arewa LGA of the state. More than 26 people were reportedly killed in that attack.

Prior to that incident, 15 members of a local vigilante group were ambushed and killed while attempting to defend their communities and livestock from rustling by the Lakurawa group.

Following last week’s attacks, Governor Nasir Idris convened an emergency security meeting with heads of security agencies at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.

The meeting was believed to be connected to the renewed violence in Arewa LGA.

The assaults happened weeks after the state hosted the UNESCO-listed Argungu Fishing Festival, held about 60 kilometres (38 miles) from Arewa LGA, where the attacks occurred.

The Lakurawa group has been blamed for numerous attacks on communities in the northern part of Kebbi State and neighbouring Sokoto State.

Its members are known to stage raids from forest hideouts, rustling livestock and imposing illegal “taxes” on local residents.

A security expert, Usman Aliyu, described the attacks as an attempt by the Lakurawa to demonstrate that they are still active in the state.

“I believe the state government has been effectively engaging security operatives, particularly the army, to flush out the terrorist group in both Kebbi South and Kebbi North in recent times.

“Not much has been heard about the bandits and Lakurawa since joint security operatives neutralised many of them in parts of the troubled areas of the state last year. It appears the government is gaining ground in the fight against them.

“I think the Lakurawa know they are being subdued. Don’t forget that joint security forces operating in Kebbi killed over 80 bandits last year and dozens of Lakurawa fighters while they were attempting to cross into the state from Zamfara and Sokoto states.

“The recent attack is likely intended to signal that they are still around,” he said

The Church of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, has distributed bags of rice, maize and other food items to Muslims, Tsangaya Islamic schools and some internally displaced persons (IDPs) ahead of the Ramadan fast.

The General Overseer of the church, Yohanna Buru, who led the distribution at the Kano Road Central Mosque in Kaduna said the gesture was aimed at promoting peace and strengthening interfaith harmony in the state.

Buru said the church had, for the past 20 years, supported underprivileged Muslims and Tsangaya schools across five northern states with food items to enable them observe the 30-day Ramadan fasting with ease.

He said besides rice and maize, the church also provides prayer mats and plastic kettles annually, urging beneficiaries to use the period to pray for peace, stability and an end to insecurity and economic hardship in the country.

“As prices of goods continue to rise, we mobilised about 50 volunteer pastors and imams for a seven-day sensitisation campaign to encourage traders to reduce the cost of food items during Ramadan,” he said.

He added that the church also facilitates the release of some Muslim inmates annually to enable them observe the Ramadan fast with their families.
Buru acknowledged the support of a Muslim philanthropist, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, who donates to widows and orphans during Christmas and New Year celebrations, describing the gesture as a reflection of mutual respect among faiths.

He wished Muslims a peaceful Ramadan and called for prayers for unity in the country..
In his remarks, the leader of the Association of Persons with Disabilities in Kaduna State, Mallam Hassan Lawal, commended the church for the support, urging wealthy Muslims to assist the less privileged during the fasting period.

Similarly, the state leader of the Visually Impaired Association, Mallam Tukur Zubairu, said the church had consistently supported them with food grains over the years, praying God to reward the organisers.

Speaking on behalf of Tsangaya schools, Imam Ibrahim Musa thanked the church for the intervention and called on well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the gesture.

Also commenting, the Murshid of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, Imam Ilyasu, described the initiative as commendable and urged wealthy Muslims to fulfil their obligation of giving zakat to the poor, especially during Ramadan.

The Sokoto State Government has approved N1 billion for the 2026 Ramadan feeding programme, increasing the number of feeding centres from 155 to 170 across the state.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu disclosed this while inaugurating committees to supervise activities at the centres on Sunday.

He said the expansion followed complaints and observations recorded during last year’s exercise.

Aliyu said 34,000 plates of food would be served daily at the centres throughout the holy month.

He added that the approved sum would be used for food items, payment of labourers and other logistics to ensure smooth implementation of the programme.

SportsDate Known For FIFA Verdict On Super Eagles World Cup Petition by ManirBK(op): 10:25am On Feb 15
Several top officials have given SCORENigeria the most likely date that world football governing body FIFA will rule on the Super Eagles petition on the eligibility of several players of DR Congo during a final 2026 World Cup Playoffs.

One of the top officials informed SCORENigeria: “It’s most likely that FIFA will rule on this matter either February 15 or 16th.

“The initial date is 15th, but it’s a Sunday and it is not really a working day in Europe.

“But what is very clear is that the verdict is now very close.”

Nigeria have demanded that DR Congo be thrown out of the World Cup qualifiers because they fraudulently got several of their players to be cleared by FIFA to feature in the CAF Playoffs in November in Rabat, Morocco.

DRC edged past Nigeria on penalties after scores stood at 1-1 even after extra time in the final Playoffs.

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has been bullish about The Super Eagles chances to replacing DRC in next month’s Intercontinental Playoffs fixed for Mexico.

He said Nigeria have a “tight” case, while citing the case of Malaysia, who recently had the results of some friendly matches overturned by FIFA after it was known that they fraudulently got some Brazilian players to feature for them.

DRC will battle the winners of the clash between Jamaica and New Caledonia for place at the Mundial in June to be staged in USA, Canada and Mexico.
