Foreign AffairsIran Ghost Ships Smuggle $1bn Of Oil Through Strait Of Hormuz As Trump Blockade by ManirBK(op):
Iran has reportedly smuggled nearly $1bn worth of oil out of the Strait of Hormuz despite US blockade in the vital trading route. According to the reports, around 34 Iranian oil tankers have managed to bypass the blockade — with 19 ships sailing out of the Persian Gulf past US naval forces and another 15 entering from the Arabian Sea toward Iran.
Of these, six tankers were reportedly carrying smuggled Iranian crude amounting to 10.7 million barrels, which is estimated to generate roughly $910 million in revenue for the Iranian government, reports Financial Times.
It comes as Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has seized two ships in the Strait of Hormuz and moved them into Iranian waters. Iranian media also report that a third vessel was targeted by the IRGC and is now “disabled” off the country’s coast.
The incidents followed earlier claims from a maritime agency that at least two container ships had come under gunfire in the Strait of Hormuz.
“The ships were allegedly operating without proper authorization, repeatedly violating regulations, and manipulating navigation systems, thereby endangering
maritime safety while attempting to exit the Strait of Hormuz covertly,” the IRGC said in a statement carried on Iran’s state-run television (IRIB), adding that the vessels were intercepted and were “stopped in line with what was described as protecting Iran’s national rights.”
Iranian media said that a third vessel, a Greek-owned ship, was also reportedly targeted by the IRGC and is “now disabled off Iran’s coast.”
On Tuesday, the US President said that he would prolong the ceasefire while keeping the US naval blockade on
Iranian ports in place, using it as leverage to push Iran to reopen the key waterway.

As news emerged that three container ships had reportedly come under Iranian gunfire, oil prices climbed,
with Brent crude rising to $99.21 a barrel.
In the US petrol prices have surged past $4 per gallon, and polling indicates that public opinion is increasingly turning against Trump’s war.

Foreign AffairsTalks Are Over, Strait Of Hormuz Is Closed Iran Says by ManirBK(op): 12:13pm On Apr 12
Tensions between Iran and the United States have sharply escalated following the collapse of high-level negotiations in Islamabad, with Iranian officials declaring the talks a failure and insisting that key strategic decisions remain unchanged.

In a statement posted on Sunday, the Iran Embassy in Ghana signalled Tehran’s defiance after more than 20 hours of discussions with US representatives yielded no agreement.

“The US flew their Vice President halfway across the world to Islamabad. 21 hours of talks. They demanded everything they couldn't achieve through war. Iran said a BIG NO. The talks are over. The Strait is still closed. And the VP is flying home empty-handed. Just Iran's word. Again. They don't have any option left to save face,” the statement said.

The statement underscores Iran’s firm stance particularly regarding the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route, which has remained a central point of contention between both nations.

On the American side, Vice President JD Vance, who led the US delegation to Pakistan, acknowledged that while discussions were extensive, they ultimately failed to produce a breakthrough.

“The simple fact is that we need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek a nuclear weapon, and they will not seek the tools that would enable them to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon,” Vance said on Sunday.

charging fees to tankers going through the Hormuz Strait — They better not be and, if they are, they better stop now!” he warned.

With negotiations now stalled and rhetoric intensifying on both sides, the outcome of the Islamabad talks appears to have pushed the crisis into a more precarious phase, raising fresh concerns over the prospects of renewed confrontation in the region.

Foreign AffairsTrump Threatens ‘hell’ For Iran Over Hormuz Strait As Deadline Approaches by ManirBK(op): 7:44pm On Apr 05
United States President Donald Trump has threatened to attack civilian infra-structure inside Iran, including bridges and power plants, if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened by his stated deadline of Monday.

Trump made the threat in an expletive-laden social media post on Sunday, in which he repeated previous threats to pummel vital infrastructure across Iran.

Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F****** Strait, you crazy b*******, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.

On March 26, Trump set a 10-day deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for the global energy market, where traffic has ground to a halt since the US and Israel first attacked Iran on February 28.

He told Fox News on Sunday that Iran was currently negotiating with the US and that he believed the two could reach a deal before the deadline.

Iranian officials have slammed Trump’s threats and promised to retaliate for any attacks on their infrastructure.

“Once again, the US president openly threatens to destroy infrastructure essential to civilian survival in Iran,” Iran’s mission to the United Nations said in response to Trump’s threats.

“The international community and all states have legal obligations to prevent such atrocious acts of war crimes. They must act now. Tomorrow is too late,” it added.

Seyyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy for communications at the Iranian president’s office, also stated that the strait would only be reopened following the payment of reparations for damages caused by the war.

He said those payments would come in the form of transit fees through a “new legal regime” around the strait, consistent with previous Iranian statements that it may seek to translate its control over the strait into a system whereby ships passing through pay a fee even after the war ends.

Foreign AffairsIran Denies Trump’s Claim Iranian President Requested Ceasefire by ManirBK(op): 10:22pm On Apr 01
A senior Iranian official has denied US President Donald Trump’s claim that Iran’s “new regime president” has asked for a ceasefire, as the United States and Israel continue their war on the country.

Reporting from the Iranian capital on Wednesday, Al Jazeera’s Ali Hashem said a senior Iranian official had rejected Trump’s post on social media claiming that, “Iran’s New Regime President … has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE!”
The Iranians are denying that they’ve asked for any ceasefire,” Hashem said.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump earlier on Wednesday had said his administration would consider the purported ceasefire request when the Strait of Hormuz “is open, free, and clear”.

“Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!” he wrote.

Trump’s claim comes just hours before he is set to deliver a speech at 9pm local time in Washington, DC, on Wednesday (01:00 GMT on Thursday) to provide what the White House said will be “an important update on Iran”.

The Trump administration has faced mounting pressure over the US-Israeli war on Iran amid soaring global energy prices and widespread opposition to the conflict among the US public.

On Monday, Trump told reporters at the White House that prices would “come tumbling down” whenever the US decides to end the war – something he said could happen within the next two to three weeks.

But the US leader’s threat on Wednesday to continue “blasting Iran into oblivion” until the Strait of Hormuz is reopened has raised questions about whether the war will end as soon as Trump has claimed.

The strait – a critical Gulf waterway through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquified natural gas supplies transit – has been effectively shuttered as a result of the war, raising serious concerns about a global economic downturn.

routes, as international stakeholders continue to monitor developments for their potential impact on regional stability and global energy security.

Meanwhile, Trump also threatened to pull the U.S. out of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), describing the decades-old military alliance as a “paper tiger” following its refusal to back Washington’s war effort against Iran.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Trump said withdrawing the U.S. from NATO was now “beyond reconsideration,” marking one of his strongest criticisms yet of the transatlantic alliance.

The remarks came amid growing tensions between Washington and its European allies after NATO members declined to support US calls for a coordinated military effort to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route currently disrupted by Iran.

Trump Claims Iran War Will Be Over In 'Two Weeks', Says Oil Prices To Crash Afterwards

President Donald Trump has said that the United States could bring down global oil prices by disengaging from Iran, suggesting his administration would soon withdraw from the country.

Speaking in response to a question by journalists in White House on how his leadership would address rising oil prices, Trump argued that a US exit from Iran would have an immediate impact on the market.

"All we have to do is to leave Iran and we would be doing that very soon and they will become tumbling down."

He also linked his position to broader security concerns, referencing tensions over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and justifying past military actions.

"Stock prices were up almost a record, I said to the American people it's time we make a detour because we have a mad man who wants nuclear weapon. If we did not knock him out with a B2-bomber, we would have had a nuclear weapon that would have been used before this, before today."

Trump suggested that failure to act decisively could have led to catastrophic consequences, insisting that his approach prevented a potential nuclear threat.

"You would not be standing there asking that question. I would say that within two or three weeks we will leave."

His remarks come amid heightened geopolitical tensions involving Iran and ongoing debates over US foreign policy in the Middle-East, particularly around military involvement and its effect on global energy markets.

On Monday, Trump openly threatened to seize Iran’s oil resources, declaring that taking control of the country’s crude exports is his preferred course of action.

Speaking in an interview with the Financial Times, Trump said Sunday that he would like to "take the oil in Iran" and is considering targeting the strategic export hub of Kharg Island, which is responsible for more than 90% of Iran's oil exports.

In some of his most direct remarks on the issue, Trump said his "preference would be to take the oil."

"To be honest with you, my favorite thing is to take the oil in Iran but some stupid people back in the U.S. say: ‘Why are you doing that?’ But they’re stupid people," he said.

Foreign AffairsADAMA Chemicals Plant In Southern Israel Hit By Iranian Missile Or Debris by ManirBK(op): 5:46am On Mar 30
JERUSALEM, March 29 (Reuters) - Israeli pesticides maker ADAMA (000553.SZ), opens new tab said its Makhteshim plant in southern Israel had been hit either by an Iranian missile or debris from an intercepted missile on Sunday, but no injuries ‌were reported.
ADAMA, part of Chinese-owned Syngenta Group, said the extent of any damage to the plant was not immediately known.

Israel's fire and rescue service said a fire broke out in an industrial area in southern Israel that houses several chemical manufacturing and industrial plants following an Iranian missile attack, likely debris from a missile that was intercepted.

It urged the public to stay away from the Ne'ot Hovav industrial area due to the presence of "hazardous materials" as 34 firefighting crews worked to contain the blaze. It said there was no danger to the public beyond a distance of 800 meters from the industrial area.
Video and images from the scene released by the fire and rescue service had shown a large ball of fire and heavy black smoke as firefighters worked to prevent ‌the fire from spreading.

Israeli Police Block Catholic Leaders From Entering Church Of The Holy Sepulchre In Jerusalem On Palm Sunday

The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, and the Custos of the Holy Land, the Most Reverend Fr. Francesco Ielpo, were prevented by Israeli Police from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem this morning, the Latin Patriarchate announced in a joint press release with the Custody of the Holy Land.

The leaders, who were on their way to celebrate the Palm Sunday Mass, “were stopped en route, while proceeding privately and without any characteristics of a procession or ceremonial act, and were compelled to turn back,” the statement said.

As a result, and for the first time in centuries, the Heads of the Church were prevented from celebrating the Palm Sunday Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.”

The press release described the incident as “a grave precedent, and disregard[ing] the sensibilities of billions of people around the world who, during this week, look to Jerusalem.”

It noted that the Church authorities “have acted with full responsibility and, since the outset of the war, have complied with all imposed restrictions: public gatherings were cancelled, attendance was prohibited, and arrangements were made to broadcast the celebrations to hundreds of millions of faithful worldwide, who, during these days of Easter, turn their eyes to Jerusalem and to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.”

The statement condemned the police action as “a manifestly unreasonable and grossly disproportionate measure,” adding that the decision was “hasty and fundamentally flawed decision, tainted by improper considerations” and represented “an extreme departure from basic principles of reasonableness, freedom of worship, and respect for the Status Quo.”

Expressing their disappointment, the Latin Patriarchate and Custody of the Holy Land said, “We express our profound sorrow to the Christian faithful in the Holy Land and throughout the world that prayer on one of the most sacred days of the Christian calendar has thus been prevented.”

Iran’s military has said the United States is failing in its war and negotiating with itself to save face, dismissing claims by US President Donald Trump that talks are under way to end the conflict.

“Has the level of your inner struggle reached the stage of you negotiating with yourself?” Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for the unified command of Iran’s armed forces, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said on Wednesday in comments carried by Iran’s semiofficial Fars news agency.
ment,” he added, mocking US leadership.

The statement is the latest official Iranian denial that Tehran is engaged in diplomacy with Washington, even as Trump insists talks are ongoing and reports circulate of the US sending a peace proposal.

Speaking to reporters at the White House yesterday, the US president said Washington is speaking to the “right people” in Iran, which he claimed wants to make a deal “so badly”.

“They are talking to us, and they’re making sense,” said Trump.
Trump’s position marks a stark shift from days earlier, when he threatened to strike Iran’s power plants if Tehran did not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, where it has threatened vessels from “enemy” nations. Hours before the ultimatum expired on Monday – and US markets reopened for the trading week – Trump said he would delay any planned attack by five days, citing diplomatic progress. Iranian officials denied this.

Zolfaqari said there would be no return to previous oil prices or the prior regional order “until our will is done”.

Svoboda:
A lot of myths about US defence superiority are being bursted by the ongoing war in Iran. An F-35 being brought down by an Iranian missile was unfathomable days back, according to military firepower experts. Not just that, an Iranian missile also struck Diego Garcia, an island military base used by both the US and the UK 4 k miles away from Tehran and deep into the Indian Ocean. What this war has done is that it has exposed Iranians impressive missile and drone advancements, as well as its combat readiness. Contrast this with Israel always hiding behind the US coat tails when attacking Iran like a frightened child hiding under his mother's dress.
