PoliticsInsecurity: Kebbi Goes Spiritual, Holds Interfaith Prayers by ManirBK(op): 6:21am On Nov 09, 2025
The Kebbi State Government has held a special interfaith prayer to seek divine intervention over prevailing security challenges plaguing the state.

The prayer session, held in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, brought together Islamic and Christian clerics from across the 21 local government areas of the state.

In his remarks, Governor Nasir Idris said there was need for continuous prayers to sustain peace, unity, and harmony in the state and the country at large.

No state can claim to be 100 per cent peaceful now, the issue of security should not be politicised,” he said.

He added that those claiming that that there was no cordial relationship between Muslims and Christians in the state were only spreading falsehood.

“We are here together, Muslims and Christians, praying for divine intervention to overcome insecurity in our land,” he said.

The governor commended religious leaders and participants for coming together for the prayer and urged them to continue praying for peace, progress, and prosperity of Kebbi State and the nation.

The session, organised by the state Ministry of Religious Affairs, aimed to seek God’s mercy and intervention in addressing the lingering challenges of banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of insecurity confronting the nation.

Among those in attendance were the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; former Governor, Sa’idu Dakingari; and National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Sulaiman Argungu.

Sheikh Abubakar Riba, Chairman of the State Council of Ulamas, and Revrend Femi Olofin, Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), joined in leading intercessory prayers for lasting peace and stability in the state.

The occasion also featured Quranic recitation and special supplications by clerics for national unity, security, and divine protection of citizens.

SportsFans Protest As FIFA Names South African Referee For Nigeria Vs Gabon Clash by ManirBK(op): 12:59am On Nov 08, 2025
FIFA has appointed a South African officiating team to handle the Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup playoff first leg against Gabon, sparking strong objections from fans who have questioned the neutrality of the decision.

According to a FIFA letter dated November 3, 2025, Tom Abongile will serve as the centre referee, assisted by compatriots Zakhele Siwela and Akhona Makalima, who will oversee VAR duties.

The referee assessor for the match, scheduled for November 13 at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, will come from Benin Republic.

A senior Nigeria Football Federation official told journalist Osasu Obayiuwana that the federation was “baffled” by FIFA’s decision, citing strained football relations between Nigeria and South Africa.

How can FIFA appoint a South African referee after their sports minister openly said he wished Nigeria would not qualify for the World Cup? South Africa are clearly hostile to us,” Obayiuwana quoted the official on his X handle on Thursday.

The development has also triggered a wave of criticism on social media.

Media personality @PoojaMedia wrote on X, “In fairness & sentiments, South African officials shouldn’t be appointed by CAF to officiate Nigeria vs. Gabon in this WC playoffs in Morocco.”

CrimeKhadijat Ado: How My Wife Went Missing In Abuja, Found In Sokoto - Jibrin Rabiu by ManirBK(op): 9:09am On Nov 03, 2025
Mallam Jibrin Rabiu, whose wife, Khadijat Ado, went missing last Thursday from their Life Camp house in Abuja, has narrated that the woman was found in Sokoto the following day.

In an interview with Daily Trust on Sunday evening, Rabiu said that when he returned home last Thursday, he discovered his wife was missing.

He said he immediately called a friend who is a police officer, who, in turn, alerted the police in Life Camp, Gwarinpa, and other divisions after the initial search failed.

He said the CCTV camera at their home captured his wife calmly walking out of the house until she moved beyond the camera’s range.

According to him, all efforts to find her proved abortive that Thursday.

Mallam Jibrin said he received a call on Friday evening that his wife had been found in Sokoto, but she could no longer speak.

He added that the woman still cannot talk but has fully regained her consciousness. They have been communicating fluently through chat.

He said his wife told him through chat that on that Thursday, she just heard someone calling her name, and she opened the door and walked out. That was all she could remember until she found herself in Sokoto.

According to Rabiu, “She said when she got to Sokoto, she met someone from whom she requested a paper and pen, where she was able to narrate the incident to her since she could no longer talk.”

Mallam Jibrin further narrated that it was this person who called him, and he instructed them to take his wife to his relative in Sokoto.

He said his wife is still in Sokoto but still unable to speak, adding that he planned to travel to Sokoto today to bring her back.

A police source at Life Camp confirmed that the incident was reported on Thursday but referred our reporter to the command’s headquarters for details.

Repeated calls put across to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, were not answered.

Saudi Arabia turned down an offer from football legend Lionel Messi to play in the Saudi Pro League during the Major League Soccer (MLS) off-season, a senior sports official has disclosed.

Abdullah Hammad, CEO of the Mahd Sports Academy, said during a podcast with Arabic platform Thmanyah that Messi’s representatives approached him during the last Club World Cup, proposing a short-term deal for the Argentine star to stay active while the MLS paused for nearly four months.

The player wanted to remain in shape and prepare for the 2026 World Cup,” Hammad said, noting that he passed the offer to the Minister of Sports, who declined it. “The minister made it clear that the Saudi league would not serve as a preparation platform for other tournaments.”

Hammad also contrasted the approaches of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, saying while Messi maintained close ties to Barcelona and set specific conditions, Ronaldo embraced a new challenge when he joined Al Nassr in 2022.

A truck carrying 60,000 litres of petrol meant to be discharged in Borno State has been arrested at the Kebbi border by men of the Operation Whirlwind of the Nigeria Customs Service.

The truck with registration number NSR26ZL, laden with petrol worth over N60m, according to Customs, was to be smuggled out of the country when it was intercepted at the border area of the state.

While addressing journalists at the Customs area command in Birnin Kebbi, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, who represented the national coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, ACG Dr Kola Oladeji, said upon their investigation, it was discovered that the product was originally meant to be discharged in Borno State but diverted to Kebbi to be smuggled out of the country.

While handing over the seized petrol truck to the Deputy Manager of the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), who represented the state coordinator -Kebbi and Sokoto, Mr Ali Ajimi, he said, “The truck we are handing over today was suspected of diversion and was detained here at the Customs Area Command, Kebbi.”

The Chairman of the House Committee on Internal Security, Garba Ibrahim Muhammad, has revealed that the National Assembly previously received terrorist threats to bomb the complex, prompting calls for stronger internal security measures.

Speaking Tuesday in Abuja during a public hearing on a bill seeking to establish a Legislative Security Directorate, Muhammad said the parliament has become a target for criminal elements exploiting lapses in its security system.

“We have received threats from terrorists to bomb the National Assembly Complex and threats from protesters to lock it up. Legislators are also exposed to risks from constituents and others who easily access their offices without formal appointments,” he said.

The Zamfara State Government has approved the reinstatement and payment of seven months’ salary arrears for 103 teachers earlier affected by the verification exercise conducted by the Ministry of Education, Science and lTechnology.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Malam Wadatau Madawaki, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the review of the teacher verification exercise.

Madawaki said the affected teachers were wrongly omitted from the list of verified staff due to what he described as “commission or by omission” during the verification process.

“After the verification exercise, we found out that 103 of these teachers were mistakenly affected. They were supposed to be in the list of declared teachers,” he explained.

All the best world champions Chelsea
SportsChelsea, PSG Hit By Injuries But Is Club World Cup To Blame? by ManirBK(op): 8:48pm On Oct 18, 2025
What do Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have in common? Of the many answers to that question, two are particularly pertinent right now: First, they've all been afflicted by copious and curious injuries early this season; second, they all played competitive football deep into the summer while contesting the latter stages of the newly formatted FIFA Club World Cup, which Chelsea won on July 14.

Never before have European club teams extended their seasons so far beyond May -- with the exception of the COVID-19 pandemic a few years ago -- and never before have club medical departments been so understandably vexed by the simple idea of keeping their players fit and healthy.

PSG took on Barcelona this month in what should have been a blockbuster Champions League tie, yet the absence of five players who started the 5-0 final victory over Inter Milan in May -- Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, João Neves and Marquinhos -- dampened the occasion a little.

A handful of days later, Chelsea fans grimaced as Benoît Badiashile and Josh Acheampong limped out of what was, eventually, a sensational 2-1 victory over Premier League champions Liverpool. And they add to an already jaw-dropping list of injuries: Cole Palmer is on his second muscle strain of the campaign; Liam Delap has sustained a Grade 2 hamstring pull; Dário Essugo has had surgery on his thigh; Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana and Andrey Santos all missed the game with knocks; and Levi Colwill's ACL tear has already ruled him out for most of the season.

Real Madrid have fared a bit better, but have already been forced to overcome a mini-crisis at right back, as Dani Carvajal's fitness has suffered and, like Delap, new arrival Trent Alexander-Arnold has already suffered a Grade 2 hamstring injury.

Fluminense, the other Club World Cup semifinalists, are not suffering, but they're a separate case. The league in Brazil runs from March to December, so they entered the tournament midway through their season, fit and firing, and they also have a huge squad to deal with the typical rigors of the Brazilian Serie A campaign (they've used 37 players so far.)

But while they were prepared for the grueling summer tournament, even Europe's richest and finest could not possibly be. There's no doubt the Club World Cup has wrought havoc for the three European teams who got the furthest. But is it entirely to blame for their injury situations?

An impossible situation

Chelsea beat PSG 3-0 in the Club World Cup final on July 14 -- a match that finally brought a stop to a season that lasted 355 days for the Blues and 357 days for Les Parisiens. Then, roughly 20 days later, at the start of August, both clubs reported for preseason -- and in what has proved to be something of a dark omen, Chelsea defender Colwill tore his ACL on the first day of training.

The Blues squeezed two friendlies on back-to-back days into a tight two-week preparation period, then opened the 2025-26 Premier League season at home to Crystal Palace. PSG didn't even bother with friendlies and kicked off their campaign even earlier, as they played the chaotic UEFA Super Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur on Aug. 13 (winning 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time).

Meanwhile, Madrid began preseason on the same day as Chelsea, played one friendly against Austrian outfit WSG Tirol, and failed in their appeal to have their first LaLiga fixture, against Osasuna, postponed due to a lack of preparation time -- though they did play it on the following Tuesday rather than the weekend. In total, they banked a precious six extra days compared to the finalists.

ESPN presented the raw details of the schedules that Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid were forced to battle with to several professionals within the game. The reactions varied from disbelief to grave concern.

Paul Bower is a physical performance coach at MLS side CF Montréal and doctoral researcher in training periodization strategies at Leeds Beckett University. He shook his head as the schedule was read out, telling ESPN that this situation is effectively unprecedented.

"No one in football had any experience of what a Club World Cup would do to preseason preparations," he said. "Not in the sense of a club squad being together for such a prolonged period of time. Their [PSG, Chelsea and Real Madrid's] seasons started last July, in 2024, and are still going.

"Two to three weeks off is not enough to 'detrain.' Essentially, it takes about four weeks for players to start to detrain."

Detraining is effectively resting, or as Bower put it, "going back to zero." In order for a professional footballer to reset between seasons, they need to lose fitness and physical ability, separate from the sport psychologically, then rebuild it steadily in time for the next campaign.

"If you're off for a week or so, it's basically just a break," he added. "You're not actually going back down to 'zero.' The players won't have decompressed from an emotional and psychological point of view."
