Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN, currently conducting Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A, have apprehended a suspected kidnapper with N13 million in cash along the Wamba-Jos road.

The troops also recovered arms, including two AK-47 rifles, two AK-47 magazines, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition.

According to Major Samson Zhakom, spokesperson for the operation, the successful arrest resulted from the troops’ efforts to secure the Joint Operations Area from criminal elements.

Narrating how the the incident occurred in Jos, Major Zhakom sai: “on Wednesday 9 July 2025, troops of the operation, mounted snap checkpoints along Wamba – Jos Road at Agameti in Sanga Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State.

“During the operation, troops intercepted a Volkswagen vehicle with registration number JJN 336 YZ with 3 occupants. However, 2 of the occupants suddenly alighted from the vehicle and fled shortly before the Checkpoint.”

According to Major Zhakom, the troops discovered bullet holes and bloodstains on the vehicle while the suspect attempted to bribe the troops with monetary gratification, but they refused to accept it.

“Consequently, troops arrested the suspected kidnapper, conducted a thorough search on him and the vehicle, recovering the following items in the process: a. Two (2) AK-47 rifles. b. Two (2) AK-47 magazines. c. Thirty (30) rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition. d. Three (3) mobile phones. e. One (1) knife. f. One (1) football. g. Assorted charms. h. One (1) torch light. i. The sum of Thirteen Million, Seven Hundred and Forty Two Thousand Naira (N13,742,000) in cash.

“The arrested suspect during interrogation confessed to being responsible for kidnapping activities along Jos – Makurdi Road and agreed to lead troops to their hideout. However, while leading troops to the hideout, the suspect in a bid to escape attempted to disarm own troops and was neutralised,” he added.

He further said troops are conducting follow-up operations to arrest other members of the criminal syndicate, adding that they remained committed to protecting lives and tracking down criminal elements within their area of operation.

Arsenal are in line to sign Chelsea and England winger Noni Madueke with a £52million deal close to being completed.

The 23-year-old trained with his Blues team-mates on Thursday morning in New York ahead of their Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain this Sunday.

But it is now extremely unlikely he will be in the squad to face PSG as Madueke is on the verge of a move to Arsenal with an agreement in principle having been struck.

Personal terms over a five-year deal have already been agreed, as reported in this week’s Chelsea Confidential on Mail Sport.

Madueke has been a regular for Chelsea over the last season, including playing the entirety of their Conference League final which they won against Real Betis.

He has also been used at this Club World Cup, though was a substitute rather than a starter in their semi-final win over Fluminense amid apparent concerns from Enzo Maresca that his focus was not entirely on his current side.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has neutralised scores of armed bandits in a series of precision airstrikes conducted on Wednesday under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, against a migrating convoy along the Kebbi–Zamfara axis.

This was contained in a statement made available to Defence Correspondents in Abuja on Thursday by the Spokesperson of the Service, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.

The statement read, “The strikes were based on real-time intelligence, which revealed the movement of close to 150 motorcycles in batches, each carrying about 2 armed terrorists near Yarbuga in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.”

It explained that after identification, confirming the hostile presence of bandits in the Kebbi-Zamfara axis, the NAF aircraft then engaged the convoy with devastating accuracy.

It further explained that survivors were seen fleeing on foot and motorcycles, as air assets maintained persistent overwatch and executed follow-up strikes, effectively disrupting enemy withdrawal routes.

The statement added that following the airstrikes, ground troops conducted a follow-up exploit mission to Yarbuga village on the morning of Thursday, 10 July 2025.

At the scene, remains of scores of terrorists and their weapons were found in the area, along with several burnt motorcycles.

“This joint air–ground operation dealt a significant blow to bandit networks in the region,” the statement added.

It stated that the operation underscored the Nigerian Air Force’s unwavering commitment to protecting civilian lives, denying terrorists freedom of action and supporting ground forces to ensure lasting peace across the country.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a container-load of donkey genitals.

The Comptroller-General (C-G) of Customs, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja this afternoon.

The C-G, who was represented by the National Public Relations Officer of the Service, Mr. Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed that the consignment was intercepted along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway.

His words, “On Friday, 5 June 2025, at approximately 2100 hours, operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service acting on credible intelligence intercepted a 1x40ft container loaded with donkey genitals along the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway.

The interception was carried out under coordinated surveillance by officers of the SWO and CIU, further confirming the persistence of illegal wildlife trafficking networks in exploiting Nigeria’s corridors.”

After proper documentation and compliance with procedure, the seized items were officially handed over to the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), in line with our commitment to inter-agency collaboration and statutory mandates.

The CG said that the seizure was not an isolated incident.

He said, “Over the past 12 months, the Special Wildlife Office has uncovered and disrupted multiple illicit wildlife trafficking operations across the country. Noteworthy among these include the recovery of six African Grey Parrots and the arrest of one suspect on 10 December 2024 in Kano, as well as the interception of two live pangolins, five Mona monkeys, two Tantalus monkeys, one baby baboon, and an African Grey Parrot at Lagos Airport in May 2025.

” In another separate operation, there was an arrest of one suspect in the Ikom area of Cross River State linked to seizures of 213 parrot heads, six eagle heads, 128 hornbill heads, and other exotic species. On 13 January 2025, the Service handed over rescued tortoises to the National Park Service in Oyo State.

” Several seizures involving taxidermy specimens, such as life-sized lions, zebra hides, gorilla parts, and pangolin scales, have been recorded in various ports and logistics routes nationwide. One such case involved 119.4 kg of pangolin scales found in a container concealed in sacks in the Calabar area of Cross River State.

“In another development, 120 African Grey Parrots were rescued and one suspect arrested in Fufore area of Adamawa State.”

Sex enhancement drugs: Expert exposes killer mixtures that send men to early graves

In the vibrant, unrelenting activities of Kano’s commercial heart where hawkers chant, engines roar, and life moves at full throttle, there’s a quiet and deadly crisis creeping beneath the surface.

It’s not an outbreak or an act of violence like thuggery that is ravaging the state. It’s a choice—one made out of desperation, misinformation, and pressure. It’s the rising abuse of sex enhancement drugs.

This growing trend, mostly hidden behind the veil of shame and societal silence is killing men with the use of pills and “herbal mixture,” in a single night.

DAILY POST gathered that while many men had died while having their time with women in many hotels, some had died ‘on top’ or still battling with complications that resulted from such sex activities influenced by enhancement drugs.

A.I. Umar, a consultant production pharmacist and Deputy Director at the Drugs Manufacturing Unit, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, confirmed to DAILY POST that the situation is now a full-blown public health emergency.

“What we’re witnessing is a reckless reliance on unregulated aphrodisiacs, especially those sold by street vendors with no medical background,” Pharmacist Umar Lamented.

These vendors mix synthetic, prescription-strength drugs like Viagra and Vega into so-called herbal remedies, creating highly toxic and unpredictable combinations,” he warned.

The deadly mix behind closed doors

DAILY POST observes that these concoctions are marketed as natural, safe, and potent.

They are sold discreetly in bus parks, market corners, and local kiosk, often hidden in cellophane wrappers or reused plastic bottles, making it harder to be noticed.

But Pharmacist Umar said it has been confirmed that the concoctions are anything but natural.

“These are not carefully formulated blends. They are crushed pills mixed with herbs and sometimes unknown substances. No dosage. No regulation. Just guess work,” Umar explained.

He said they often resulted in cases of severe chest pain, dangerously elevated heart rates, collapse health, and in many instances, sudden death.

A culture of silence and pressure

Why are men, some as young as 20 risking it all for these concoctions?

DAILY POST observes that in a society where masculinity is often measured by sexual prowess, performance anxiety is always widespread.

Yet, open conversation about sexual health remain a taboo.

Rather than seek medical help, many resort to the most accessible alternative, the street vendor promising “guaranteed results.”

“This isn’t just a health problem,” Umar emphasized.

“It’s a cultural one. We have to question why men are turning to untested drugs instead of trained professionals. What myths are we still upholding? What insecurities are we ignoring?”

A call for action

Government regulators like NAFDAC and the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria have cracked down on illegal drug hawking before but the efforts are far from enough. The market is still thriving.

Umar believes that real change requires more than law enforcement.

“Religious leaders, educators, traditional rulers, and the media all have a role to play. We must break the silence. We must teach our youth that masculinity is not defined by performance, but by self-control, knowledge, and responsibility.”

According to him; “No pleasure is worth your life.”

living testament to the wealth and
uniqueness of the Nigerian spirit.
“This brands display is to showcase
Nigeria’s vibrant entrepreneurial spirit,

unique homegrown innovations.
Many of the brands are owned by

to keep pushing boundaries, telling
them to “go back and tell the story at

“This is the way that we need to come
and showcase our Nigerian brands and
what we have to show the world.”
Mr Jidda left the exhibitors with a

“This is the maiden one but we believe
that the next edition will be bigger and

PoliticsZoning May Split ADC As Atiku, Obi, Amaechi Seek Presidential Ticket by ManirBK(op): 2:56pm On Jul 05, 2025
The coalition may be torn apart by the ambition of some of the key political figures on the question of which part of the country their presidential candidate should come from.

It comes as no surprise that news headlines this week have been dominated by the formation of a coalition by opposition politicians plotting to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) was adopted as a platform to challenge Mr Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC). Leading the ADC coalition is former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Governor of Anambra State Peter Obi, both runners-up in the last presidential election.

They are joined by other experienced politicians, including former Senate President David Mark, who like Atiku is leaving the PDP, along with the opposition party’s former chairman Uche Secondus, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.

At the unveiling of the coalition on Wednesday, interim chairman David Mark said it was an attempt to save the country’s democracy and to stop Nigeria from becoming a one-party state.

However, analysts said the coalition is bound to be torn apart by the ambition of some of the key political figures on the question of which part of the country should its presidential candidate come from.

Although there’s a long way to go before candidates are officially announced, political commentators are predicting that 78-year-old Atiku will have another shot at the presidency. Atiku’s supporters feel that with him being the only former vice president seeking the presidency, every other politician naturally comes second.

Aside from Atiku, Mr Amaechi has indicated his interest in running for the country’s top job in 2027. The former minister came a distant second in the APC presidential primary in 2022, losing to Mr Tinubu. In an interview on Channels TV on Thursday, Mr Amaechi said he believes the power-sharing deal between northern and southern Nigeria should be respected.

He recalled how he fought for the return of power to the North in 2015, saying he believes in power sharing between the two major regions of the country. “I led the fight against the PDP government. Why? Because there was an agreement that the government at that time would spend four years. But after four years, the government reneged on it, and I said no, that would be unfair. That will be instability at its peak because the North will react.”

Mr Amaechi added that in line with the power-sharing principle, he would be a one-term president if given the chance to lead the country in 2027. “I won’t do more than four years,” he said, adding that “the South must be allowed to complete its tenure. If the South is not allowed to complete its tenure, then I have made a mistake in supporting it.”

Mr Amaechi’s stance is not very different from that of Mr Obi, who came third in the last presidential election, surprising many pundits to win in 11 of Nigeria’s 36 states and Abuja.

Mr Obi has also declared his intention to contest in the 2027 presidential election under the coalition. Mr Obi said the platform would offer Nigerians “a competent, capable, and compassionate” leadership.

“Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 general elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first,” he said.

The former Anambra governor said he would be willing to serve for a four-year tenure if he reached an agreement with those who support his ambition. “If there is any form of agreement that will restrict me to four years in office, I will comply with the agreement and be ready to leave office by 28th May 2031,” Mr Obi said.

Messrs Obi and Amaechi will thus hope that the ADC zones its presidential ticket to the South and that the candidate, if elected, would serve only one term before power returns to the North again. Atiku, who has tried to be Nigeria’s president since 1993, is, however, expected to challenge that belief and seek to be the ADC candidate.

“Ultimately, the success of the coalition would depend on their establishing a level playing ground for intra-party democracy to produce the best candidate,” said Jibrin Ibrahim, a professor of political science. “If they fail to do so, their success cannot be guaranteed.”

Sectional Interests

The politics of region, geography, religion, and ethnicity is one of the major fault lines in Nigerian democracy. This was a major issue in 2010, after the death in office of President Umaru Yar’Adua, also in 2011, and again in both 2015 and 2023.

It would most certainly be the case in 2027, too.

After eight years of the Buhari/Northern Presidency, the Southern partners in the emerging coalition would naturally insist that to replace Mr Tinubu, who would have spent four years in 2027, the remaining four years must naturally go to a presidential candidate of Southern extraction.

Meanwhile in the northern camp of the coalition, there are recommendations that the party should throw its presidential primaries open to contestants from every part of Nigeria.

Some are saying the party should just focus on producing a credible and worthy candidate that can defeat the incumbent president.

If the party decides to zone the ticket to the South, such a decision will automatically shut the door on the faces of some of the party’s most prominent and enduring aspirants like Atiku, who has been seeking to be Nigeria’s president since 1993.

If on the other hand, the coalition throws the race open to all contenders, the aspirants from the southern region will feel shortchanged at having to contest against a more experienced and better connected northern rival.

In any case, the issue of zoning can make or mar the coalition ahead of the 2027 elections. The same issue contributed largely to the defeat of the PDP in the 2015 presidential election that ended the party’s 16 years hold on the presidency. It also affected the main opposition during the 2023 presidential election.

The PDP had adopted the concept of zoning from its inception, saying this was to promote national unity. Section 7 (2) (c) of the party’s constitution states, “In pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness, the party shall adhere to the policy of rotation and zoning of the party and public executive offices.”

But the party jettisoned that agreement and threw the contest open in 2022. That factor led to the breakaway of five governors from the PDP led by former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.

To be sure, PDP did not invent the policy. At the dawn of the Second Republic in 1978, the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) had introduced zoning as a power-sharing arrangement between the North and South. It nominated Shehu Shagari from Sokoto State as its presidential candidate, who went on to nominate Alex Ekwueme from Anambra State as his running mate.

Although the four other parties did not proclaim the same policy, they all also balanced their presidential tickets with North and South nominees, except the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) whose candidate, Obafemi Awolowo, chose to run with Philip Umeadi from the old Anambra State in the only South-South ticket in the 1979 presidential election.

The PDP adopted the policy at its inception, which has since seen its presidential ticket oscillate between the two regions. In 1999, prominent northern aspirants like Adamu Ciroma, Bamanga Tukur and Atiku Abubakar stayed out of the race to allow the new party to choose principally between a former military head of state, Olusegun Obasanjo, and Second Republic Vice President, Mr Ekwueme. Radical Kano politician, the late Abubakar Rimi, who rebelled against the decision, was eventually persuaded by his northern colleagues to drop his nomination form.

The APC also adopted the same policy. When former President Buhari was to complete his tenure in 2023, the majority of the APC governors insisted that power must shift south and that led to the emergence of Mr Tinubu as the party’s flagbearer for the 2023 presidential elections. Mr Tinubu is not expected to face any major challenge within the APC for the 2027 presidential ticket of the party.

As the coalition plots to challenge the ruling party in the 2027 general elections, its biggest test yet is how to produce the best candidate and which part of the country should its presidential candidate come from.

Crisis is brewing in the African
Democratic Congress (ADC) adopted by
the Atiku Abubakar-led coalition to
challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-
election in 2027.
A group of party members, in a
statement on Wednesday, rejected its
adoption by the opposition coalition,
saying it is not a one-man project.
PREMIUM TIMES reported that the
National Opposition Coalition Group
had adopted the party for the 2027
election.
The coalition appointed a former Senate
President, David Mark, and a former
governor of Osun State, Rauf
Aregbesola, as its interim national chair
and secretary, respectively.
The National Chairperson of the ADC,
Ralph Nwosu, reportedly stepped aside
to pave way for the new interim ki
leadership of the party.

However, the group of ADC members,
in a statement on Wednesday, kicked
against the adoption of the party by the

The statement, titled “ADC is not a one-

signed by the national publicity
secretary of the party, Musa Matara, on
behalf of the “Concerned Stakeholders
of the ADC,” youth leaders, women
leaders, state party executives and ward

Members of the group said while they
appreciate the enthusiasm with which
Mr Aregbesola delivered his acceptance
speech, they rejected the premise and
process behind the appointment.
They said the appointment lacked due
process, transparency, and the broad-
based legitimacy expected in a
democratic political party.
The aggrieved members further stated
that the ADC is not a private coalition
platform to be hijacked by any elite
group.
“The ADC is not a private coalition
platform to be hijacked by any elite
group or individuals—regardless of
how eloquent or ideologically polished
their speeches may sound.
“Our party has structures, leadership
organs, youth and women wings, and
constitutional guidelines—none of
which were consulted or respected in
the announcement of this so-called
“appointment,” the statement said.
The members listed seven key points to
justify their objection to the adoption of
ADC by coalition. This includes the
unresolved legal crises in the party.
“Let it be known to those who are
trooping into our party under this
chaotic coalition arrangement that the
ADC has been battling unresolved legal
crises since the 2023 general elections.
These matters remain in court and
unresolved. Any coalition attempt built
on such shaky legal ground is
irresponsible and potentially self-
destructive,” the statement said.
The group also said millions of ADC
members have not been informed or
carried along in this “so-called
coalition,” warning that if anyone is
attempting to force an opposition
merger without grassroots consent, they
are trampling on democratic ethics and
party sovereignty.
“We stand firmly on the side of
accountable leadership, transparent
decision-making, and a people-powered
party structure. Any process that
excludes the very people it claims to
serve is undemocratic and must be
challenged.
“We call on all genuine stakeholders of
the ADC—across states, zones, and
demographic groups—to reject this
attempted takeover of our party. We
are not opposed to coalitions. We are
not opposed to reform. But we are
opposed to hijack, to imposition, and to
speeches that sound revolutionary but
hide elitist intentions beneath poetic
language.
“Until a legitimate, constitutionally-
backed ADC National Convention or
NEC confirms leadership changes, no
one has the moral or legal right to
speak for our party nationally ” they
said.
Also, in a text message to PREMIUM
TIMES on Wednesday, the ADC
Presidential Candidate in the 2023
election, Dumebi Kachikwu, kicked
against the adoption.
“Can you shave a man’s hair in his
absence? Can you enter a man’s house
through the back door and declare
yourself the landlord? Can you build
something on nothing? Atiku and his
co-travellers have bought bad market
from someone purporting to be the
chairman of the African Democratic
Congress. For the avoidance of doubt
the tenure of Ralph Nwosu lapsed three
years ago,” he said.
Mr Nwosu could not be reached for
comment.

Every EPL team will note how
City can be done on the counter. Quick
passes, north-south and east-west, combined
with offensive pace had the City centre-backs
twisted up like pretzels.
