HONG KONG: A Nigerian man in Hong Kong has been placed in quarantine after he was suspected to be carrying the Ebola virus, said Chinese media on Sunday (Aug 10). According to CCTV, the 32-year-old had arrived in the southern Chinese city from Nigeria on Thursday. He was sent to hospital after experiencing vomiting and diarrhoea. It also said the man has been sent to Princess Margaret Hospital, where he will undergo tests for the virus. CCTV added that the test result may be known on Sunday night. South China Morning Post reported that Hong Kong’s Department of Health declined to comment on the case, but said it would make a public announcement if any Ebola case is confirmed. Xinhua said the man had been staying at a guesthouse in Tsim Sha Tsui district. He reportedly told the building's security staff that he was feeling unwell. He was later sent conscious to hospital. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asiapacific/nigerian-man-in-hong-kong/1306082.html |
The Saudi Arabia Kingdom has been hit by the ravaging Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) as a patient suspected to be infected in a recent business trip to Sierra Leone has been confirmed dead in Jeddah, the Saudi capital today. The infection was confirmed by the Saudi authorities and World Health Organization (WHO) laboratories after the test samples of the victim certified EVD symptoms of “viral hemorrhagic fever”. The Saudi Health Ministry stated it was working to trace the man travel’s route and identify those he had contact with. Meanwhile, Saudi kingdom has suspended pilgrimage visas from West African countries as way to check possible spread of the deadly disease. http://www.africanexaminer.com/saudi-arabia-loses-first-ebola-victim-suspends-pilgrimage-visa-in-west-africa/ |
Saudi Arabia is testing a man for suspected Ebola infection after he returned recently from a business trip to Sierra Leone, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday. It said the man, a Saudi in his 40s, was at a hospital in the Red Sea city of Jeddah after showing "symptoms of viral hemorrhagic fever", which resemble symptoms of the Ebola virus.More info http://www.foxnews.com/health/2014/08/05/saudi-arabia-testing-man-suspected-contracting-ebola-in-sierra-leone/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+foxnews%2Fhealth+(Internal+-+Health+-+Text) |

NTA Haba! Help me sort it out please... 1. There are more mosques in Nigeria than in Saudi Arabia the holiest place in Islam. 2. There are more churches in Nigeria than in Italy where the Pope lives. In fact, we,Nigerians are the most religious people on earth. But the paradox is that, we don't follow the TEACHINGS of our religions as much as we support its EXISTENCE! This is like building a new house, and instead of one to move in when the building was completed, one choose to stay outside bragging that he or she owned the best house! My people Let us move into our respective homes of faith and live in peace! Please NIGERIANS... !! |

Sheik Ahmad Abubakar Gumi said today that Iyabo Obasanjo, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo first child who wrote a scathing letter against him on Tuesday, is a victim of Westernization. The respected cleric made the observation in a social media post, in which he described it as “apolitical, irreligious and un-African,” noting that the letter had exposed the Obasanjo family feud. “The letter became a distraction from a previous one written by her father addressing very important national issues,” Gumi wrote. “Obasanjo is not a saint, neither is she one nor most Nigerians are. But what is worth noting is that, at a crucial time when the nation is gripped by official criminality of bloodshed, financial misappropriatio n, and moral decadence she now sees the opportunity to blast her father.” He expressed the view that the letter also shows Iyabo lacks proper religious upbringing. “This is the segment that stirred my attention. I don't think any person with proper religious upbringing will ever do that to his parent. I once heard in the CNN a British girl calling her Yemeni father an evil man because he took her sister back to Yemen to marry. Evidently afraid for his daughter the moral decadence of the Western society. Iyabo is a victim of westernization. One thus wonders what the Western life does to humanity.” The cleric argued that respecting one’s parents is among the Jewish ten commandments which was also endorsed by Jesus, “Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother” Mark:10:19: and in Matthew 15:4: “For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.” -CULLED FROM SAHARA REPORTERS |

"Pres. Jonathan Can’t Win In 2015" - Dokubo Asari One of the biggest supporters and kinsman of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, has declared that the president has lost the support of his political base, the South-south and the South-East owing to the failure of his government to deliver on its promises. Dokubo-Asari, at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, said that it would be tough for Jonathan to win the presidential election in 2015 if he decides to run based on the poor showing of his administration. He said that his decision to speak out was for him and others who are ardent supporters of Jonathan not to be blamed for his failure in 2015. He said: “I want to start with an Ijaw proverb, which says: the eyes watched its seven children to death. Instead of advising them, it was just looking at them until they died, while the mouth talked its only child to life and success. “We have continued as Ijaw people and the entire Niger Delta and South- South to support the presidency of President Goodluck Jonathan, but a time has come when silence cannot be golden. “We mainly speak out in issues that are very critical to the survival of our people, the survival of the people of the South-South and the South-East, which happens to be the political base of Goodluck Jonathan. “Jonathan is surrounded by very greedy people who are only in the Presidency to enrich themselves at the expense of Goodluck himself. “This brings us to another Kalabari proverb, which says: where there are elders, a goat cannot be allowed to deliver tied to a stick. “If we don’t talk and we continue to brush it aside, tomorrow we will be blamed and people will say: Mujahid Dokubo-Asari was around when Goodlcuk Jonathan was president and he didn’t talk. “Them I will be an accomplice and accessory after the fact…. “It is alarming because the South-South must have its uninterrupted eight years tenure, which is constitutional. “But with how things are going under Jonathan’s watch, we are afraid that we may not be able to have our eight years tenure because there will be no magic about it if it is going to be one man one vote.” Dokubo-Asari said he will continue to speak out despite the fact that he had benefitted from Jonathan, adding that one of those causing trouble for the President remains the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Godsday Orubebe. He said: “I have benefited immensely from Goodluck Jonathan with my stake but benefit alone is not enough to make me to keep quiet when the period is very challenging for our people. “So, some of us are tempted to ask this question: why are all these things happening? “Why has the President allow some ministers like Godsday Orubebe to continue in government? “Everyday people die on the East-West Road. “If Orubebe is incompetent as he has shown himself to be, he should be removed. “Nobody voted for Orubebe. “And why is Orubebe so important to the President that he can’t remove him even in the face of his obvious incompetence and several allegation to corruption? “We feel very ashamed and embarrassed. “Orubebe was one of us. “He was attending meetings with us, sleeping in the ground with us, entering night bus with us and we nominated him to be appointed a minister. “We have gone to him and complained to him that we don’t like they way things are going in his ministry and told him that if the President leaves in 2015 without the completion of the East-West Road, we are finished. “And the man keeps telling us there is no money. “When IBB (former military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida) was there, there was money. “When Abacha was there, there was money. “When others were there, there was money. “How come the money disappeared when Jonathan got there? “Jonathan and orubebe will account for the death in the East-West Road.” On the face-off between Jonathan and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Dokubo-Asari said there was no need for it. He said that no matter what Jonathan feels, he still remains a beneficiary of Obasanjo’s large heartedness. He said: “First, there was no need for Goodluck Jonathan to disagree with Olusegun Obasanjo. “I don’t like Obasanjo. “I don’t like his face. “I hate him. “But he was instrumental in bringing Goodluck Jonathan to power. “And the greedy people around Jonathan have not managed him enough to the extent that the President and people around him will allow Jonathan to disagree with Obasanjo openly. “And if you check, all the people who supported Goodluck Jonathan and fought to bring him to power, have openly disagreed with him. “What was the cause of these disagreements? “These are the questions we want to put to the president. “Some people say Obasanjo is manipulating Goodluck Jonathan, that is why Jonathan is disagreeing with him and we ask: what has Goodluck Jonathan’s government achieved to show that it is a departure from other governments that have existed since 1956? “For us, nothing has changed. “It is still business as usual. “So what are the advice that Obasanjo gave to Jonathan that were so difficult for him to fulfill, that made him decide to fall out with Obasanjo? “Obasanjo was instrumental and manipulated the process that illegally removed Diepreye Alamieyeseigha as governor of Bayelsa State and installed Jonathan as governor, made him vice president, fought for him to become acting president and also fought for him to become president of Nigeria. “Apart from Obasanjo, there are so many people who supported Goodluck Jonathan, some have been pushed out by those who were not there to give him any support, while some others are trapped and they cannot talk. I have a feeling that Fulani man Buhari would have done more for Niger-delta than Jonathan has done so far Jonathan has done nothing for Niger Delta actually. It is getting more and more difficult to support him, the second niger bridge is another issue. Even his allies are denouncing him. What a shame! |

JTF arrests Pastor with 124 bags of Indian hemp packed inside his church The Joint Task Force, Operation Restore Order, in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital has arrested a Pastor, Moses Edon, in possession of 124 bags of Indian hemp at the premises of a Celestial Church of Christ. Vanguard gathered that the church was abandoned last year, as its members fled due to the insecurity perpetrated by Boko Haram sect. A statement by the JTF spokesman, Lt-Col. Sagir Musa, said: “Based on information and intelligence, the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Restore Order at about 9.30am on July 10, 2013 raided the premises of a Celestial Church of Christ at House of Assembly Quarters, Pompomari area of Maiduguri metropolis. “The raid led to the discovery and seizure of 124 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp packed in three rooms at the premises of the church. “The suspect who is a pastor of the church, one Moses Edon, admitted knowledge of the content of the bags and confessed that the Indian hemp was brought to his church from Ondo State for safe keeping by a member of the church, one Mr Segun Oni.” The JTF said preliminary investigation revealed that the church has not been active for some time now. It has been used for safe haven for Indian hemp business from where some unidentified “partners in business” distribute the product to their customers in Maiduguri and its environs. S |
Nigerians challenge Patience Jonathan to debate with Soyinka Some Nigerians on Sunday asked the wife of the President, Patience Jonathan, to make herself available for a debate with Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka. The call came on the heels of the diatribe the First Lady launched against Soyinka in which she described the renowned playwright as an “embarrassment’’ for attributing the crisis rocking Rivers State to her and her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan. But some Nigerians, who took to Twitter and other social networks to voice their concern over the development, called on a Lagos-based private broadcaster, Channels Television, to organise a debate for the two. According to them, the TV station’s Sunrise Daily, a news and current affairs programme that features prominent Nigerians, who are experts in their areas of specialisation, will provide a level playing ground for the duo to thrash out the knotty issues they were arguing on. To actualise their dreams, a cross section of them sent messages in a tweet to the handle of the programme @sunrisedailynow as well as the main official handle of the television station, @Channels_TV on Sunday. A Twitter user, with the name Abdul Slimzy, tweeting via @abdulslimzy said, “It would be really nice to see Patience Jonathan and Wole Soyinka argue on Channels TV @sunrisedailynow in English Language o.” An anonymous reader on lindaikeji..com said, “Kindly call on Channels TV to organise a debate between Prof. Wole Soyinka and Dame Patience Jonathan. I know we go laugh pass ‘Night of a Thousand Laugh.’’’ Another user of the micro- blogging service with the name, Hig-Wayne Cannon, who uses the handle @dosinclair, said he would be looking forward to the debate on national TV as it would be a clash of the titans. Cannon notes, “You can expect a volcanic grammatical literary of freestyles. What a collabo #Titans.” However, some users of the micro-blogging service boasted that the wife of the President would come out tops after the debate. One of such users of the social network who beat his chest on this was Yakubu Dogara who tweets via @doyakubu. He says, “I bet it that Dame Patience will win the debate as it will be unwise for the Prof. (Wole Soyinka) to attend much more utter a word.” Another Nigerian tweeting via @hobalawon said Soyinka, who clocked 79 on Saturday, should simply steer clear of joining issues with the First Lady and save himself from being on the receiving end of public bashing which he described as “lethal weapon’’ emanating from her. The social network user noted, “Prof, even at 79, we still need you around.” Meanwhile, the exchange of diatribe between the duo has divided Nigerians on social networks. While a section of Nigerians argue that the First Lady shouldn’t have descended heavily on Soyinka and that the onslaught was unpresidential, others maintained that Soyinka got what he deserved. On nairaland.com, a Nigerian with the name, My Time, argued, “I still maintain that Patience Jonathan has no moral justification to attack the professor. Her only portfolio is being the wife of the President. Soyinka has achieved a lot and demands respect. He is one of our national icons and a gift to this nation. He commands more respect outside the shores of this country than she does and can ever get.’’ An anonymous visitor on the blog noted, “I see this current government and her (Patience Jonathan) agenda losing their taste of civility and moral standing. I don’t see any reason why the First Lady should talk to an elderly statesman with such verbal brutality, irrespective of what he (Soyinka) said to her. Really, I think it’s quite unpresidential.’’ However, those who believe that Soyinka deserved Patience Jonathan’s onslaught against him said it was wrong for Soyinka to insult another man’s wife in the first place. They noted that since Soyinka had descended into an arena of conflict, he could not avoid such a treatment. On another blogsite, one Abidoh Jonathan said, “Why exactly are people abusing the First Lady? Prof. Wole Soyinka made a derogatory remark about her, and she reacted with an on-point come back. What is the big deal? If you ask me, I think the Prof stooped too low to comment and link the First Lady to the current crisis rocking Rivers State. He is a renowned Prof. but hello, she too is still the First Lady now and she deserves some respect.” |
There was a mild drama in Maiduguri on Thursday when an 11-year-old girl grabbed the collar of a local scent (Turare) vendor, accusing him of being among those who slaughtered her father and mother in the dead of the night about nine months ago. Witnesses said the 11-year-old girl who was hawking sachet water at the Gamboru area of Maiduguri metropolis, sighted the man, believed to be in his early 30s, and immediately recognised his face as the man who, in company of four others, attacked her family. “As soon as she saw the scent seller at the Gamboru Market, the young girl threw away her sachet water container, screamed, ran fast and grabbed him by the collar, shouting in Hausa ‘this is him...he is the one who killed my mother. He is the one who slaughtered my father...help me to catch him,” a witness told Weekly Trust. Traders said the man could not runaway because of the large crowd that mobilized to the scene. He was, however, saved from being lynched as the police arrived and whisked him to a nearby police station. “The girl vividly recollected what happened on the night her parents were killed. She told us that the local scent seller together with four others stormed her family’s residence,” another trader said. In a related development, six suspected Boko Haram members were captured in Maiduguri. Some youths had trailed and arrested four in Mairi area along Bama road and two others at the Post Office area. In the last two weeks, dozens of insurgents had been captured by vigilante groups formed by young men in Maiduguri who vowed to end killings by the sect members in Borno State |

An 11-year-old boy (names withheld) was yesterday afternoon arrested by the police at Nyanya Division for allegedly trying to set ablaze the Area B/C Mosque, near Customs Quarters in Nyanya, Abuja. Imam of the mosque, Zubairu Mohammed, told newsmen that the boy had earlier set fire to one of the Mosque’s Qur’anic classroomc and did not know that a security man was sleeping inside and had noticed the fire. He said the security man after extinguishing the fire, sighted the boy holding a gallon of fuel as well as a box of matches near the main Mosque and apprehended him. “The incident happened during the time of Juma’at Prayers (1:30 pm) and it was my security who first alerted me before I rushed down to see the boy with a gallon and box of matches,” the Imam said. The Imam said he ordered that the boy be kept with the mosque’s security’s custody and went to Jumat service. He said a senior Imam was told of the incident and he sent for the police, who took the boy to their station. The Imam praised the divisional police officer for his effort in calming the situation and beginning the investigation. At the Nyanya Police Station, the divisional police officer was not on seat but one Sergeant O. Ibrahim, said that the boy, a Christian, confessed that his accomplice, a student of one of the secondary schools in Nyanya, escaped when he was caught. “The boy is with the juvenile section of the station and we are investigating the matter because it is very serious,” the police officer said. |
EARLY CHRISTIANS PROSTRATION AND PRAYER MATS: CHRISTIANS PRAYING LIKE MUSLIMS. Early Chistians Prayed Like Muslims and Jesus... Speaking of the 7th century, Diarmaid McCulloch tells the Christians were praying like Muslims before the coming of Islam: …the characteristic prostration of Muslim prayer was then normal in the Christian Middle East, where it still survives in some traditional Christian communities. Prayer mats, still one of the most familiar features of the mosque today, were extensively used by the Christian monks as far apart as Syria and Northumbria or Ireland before the coming of Islam. [A History of Christianity, Diarmaid McCulloch, Penguin Group, 2009, p258] Why would early Christians pray like Muslims? Could it have anything to do with Prophet Jesus (p) worshipping God in the manner in which Muslims pray? In fact, even Christian sources point to this: Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” [Matthew 26: 39, NIV] Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. “Abba,[a] Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” [Mark 14:35-36, NIV] Also see: Luke 22:39-46 Apart from the glaring theological problem which Trinitarians encounter from such passages (i.e. that of Jesus worshipping God!) we can clearly see that Jesus appears to pray in the manner of the Muslims according to Christian sources. Thus, from these passages we can understand the usage of prayer mats within Christian communities prior to the coming of Islam. Note: The word Father (Abba) is simply a Jewish term for God. It is not to be taken literally, Professor Geza Vermes writes: Jesus prayed there in the solitude, invoking God as ‘Abba’, ‘Father’ or My Father’. The word is given in Aramaic in Mark and in Greek in Matthew and Luke. Abba is a familiar but also respectful expression. It is not the equivalent of ‘Daddy’, as some New Testament scholars have unwisely ventured to propose. [‘Jesus’ Nativity-Passion- Resurrection, Geza Vermes, Penguin books, 2008, p. 208] |
