I've tried to use the metastock converter to load the NSE data too unsuccessfully. The only thing that worked was to save each individual securities in the NSe.zip file as a different CSV file and upload into metastock individually. I'm currently playing around with Metastock Converter v1.3 to convert the NSE data into metastock format.
@ Koksieboy, Bigjay01

Can you please send me the link for downloading Metastock.

You might not need to format data for metastock. Try copying your files in "program file ---Aptistock ---Data ---NSE" into the directory of your metastock app. I think this will work. Another issue is to save all your files as CSV(MS-DOS) not just CSV

I've got aptistock and I just checked out the excelsheet that man jiro uploaded for the macro, I just can't seem to understand the stuff. Please can someone help.

Oga pumping i de greet-o, sent you a mail.
I just sent another sheet: delete the old one.

In Aptistock, NSE is not preloaded.

What you can do is to create your NSE and input the stock symbols you desire. This should be the same as the symbols in the Zenith file you intend to use as input: even an extra space makes a lot of difference

After doing so, go to program files -- aptistock -- data and create a folder for your stock market (NSE or whatever you like: just be consistent).

Go to the data downloader and locate the source data file and specify the destination folder by choosing the market: avoid suffix option

Import: If download happens, then you are good to go.

Sorry, the first formating sheet had a bug: the protected sections of the sheet prevents the macro from completing its process.

Attached is the latest one.

Let me know if it does not work.

The bit I still don't understand is the process of issuing a buy /sell order. As I understand it, you send such orders to your Relationship officer who then passes down to the stokbrokers.

If I send a mandate tonight, does it get to the stockbrokers 1st thing in the morning the next day so it can be actioned onhuh

My dilenma - why can't I deal directly with the stockbrokershuh

What if you send a mandate and he/she is off duty for any reason, or doesnt get to the stockbrokers before they leave for trading for that particular dayhuh Lost dayhuh (with its attendant implication on prices) you will agree with me that in this business 1 day makes a lot of difference in terms of entry / exit prices. Most profit in this game is made on entry prices.

Anyone using UBA NRNhuh feel free to chip in. I stand corrected if any of my assumption(s) is(are) wrong

Does anyone know what UBAS brokerage charges/fees arehuh

@ Bigjay

The cut off time for sending orders to UBA is 4 pm

The essence of passing through your relationship manager is for him/her to transfer money from your NRN current account to your stockbroking account. But I guess that if you deposit money with the brokers you might be able to sideline the relationship manager. but think of the safety of that too.

Apart from Patricia, you would be given a relationship manager. You can always ask them to confirm receipt of your mandate. If nothing happens in two hours, give them a call. Patricia is quite nice.

Thanks for recommending the Metastock application. I've successfully installed v10 but seem to be having some challenges using it. I've read the manual and viewed the online tutorials but it seems to work well with online data. I would appreciate if you could educate me (and the forum) on the following

1. where to get the NSE EOD data similar to the "NSE.zip" shared by Bigjay01
2. How to import it into the Metastock application
3. How to keep the data up to date

Thanks in advance.

Attached is an excel sheet with Macro to do the formationg for you. After the formating and saving, use Aptistock to upload the file.

hey bigjay its too big to email, tried it, its listed on 4shared, just checked again, its under "metastock", enter that in the search box.
I'm using version 10
let me know if it works, if not I might have to upload it to one of the sites.
@ Naijadr

You can do the formating without Metastock converter.

Arrange your data in the correct order and save as CSV (MS-DOS). I did mine this way. When I used the Aptistock downloader to import it, different folders for different symbols was created. Its working well.

Find attached the  EOD data in MetaStock format (from August though). I used a couple of software to get it in this final format. took a while to do but once I got the hang of it, it was a 'piece of poo'.
Thanks bigjay01.

I discovered that if you store the data as CSV (MS DOS) it works fine.

Did anyone buy the Access Bank IPO that ended sometimes late september this year. I subscribe to about 20,000 units and i'm yet to get my share certificates. Does anyone have any idea when the share certificates are normally sent out. Is it too early to be worried. Appreciate your response.
The allotment proposals is out but Certs have not been sent. I am thinking return monies would be sent out first. Check the tread "Stock Tips for Nigerians". Somebody gave a link to the documents.

It proposed 80% allotment for 10000 - 24999 shares

In regards to Aptistock, it can get tricky, my data was in excel format so I had to convert it to ASCII (text).
Click on Tools, then data downloader, select import and then at the top click on browser then select your text file, and then click on import.
Let me know if that one works for you

Thanks for the Aptistock info,

Can you please send me a sample of the excel format you use: headings. Either paste here or send to my mail: man4jiro@yahoo.co.uk

I will see if i can create a macro to do the formating.

X-2-X:

Bigjay. Thanks for your response.

I am not in need of historic data. Rather I am in need of future data from today onwards .

Zenith's site hasnt been updated since the 18th. It used to be my primary source.

So now I am looking for an alternative. I fancy a service (from a stockbroker, website
etc) that can send Excel formated documents to me via email. That way, I wouldnt
have to  bother going through the extraction process daily as I can always download
the excel worksheets from my email box when I am free (say weekends). You dig?

Cant seem to get anything from my FSDH susbcription. Information regarding any
alternate source will be appreciated

@ X-2-X

I think the subscription process takes time to activate.

Login into their site with your email and password. Click on the link for share price: it gives you the most recent price history (27th). Click on archieve to get past data.

Apart from the above: cashcraft, nigeriansecurities and trw.stockbrokers are good sources.

Just press the left mouse down, hold and drag along the data. Do ctrl + C or right click and choose copy. Open your excel sheet, click on a cell and do Ctrl + V or right click and choose past: VOILA!

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Compliments of the season.

Can somebody please send me FSDH pricelist for Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec. I have downloaded the previous ones but the achieve does not have the months i just mentioned.

Compressing it will make it smaller and easier to send.

You could upload it here for me (others too) or send to my mail: man4jiro@yahoo.co.uk.

Thanks for the anticipated assistance.

You can easily download the file from megaload. You have to enter 3 digit code displayed at the upper right hand corner of the site when you connect, wait for some minutes and then click on the download button in the free download column. No registration required. try it.
Strong Man Pumping. Thanks for the info?

@ NBA,

Yes I was charged for that: I figured out that this will be for the DHL stuff sent to us.

I just checked my account now but did not see any 1% charge: but it is still possible that it is calculated at a later time. I would think that the charges applies once you transfer above a certain limit (like for UBA it is NGN 50,000.00). If this is the case, one would just make multiple transfers within your accounts but the problem would be when making payments to a third party. The difference in Exchange rate between Diamond and UBA would compensate for this 1% charge though.

Have asked for the terms and conditions for operating the account. Am still yet to get a feedback

Its good nairaland is back

@ NBA, Etin

Congrats NBA.

I was able to log on into the Diamond account. I was really impressed. Menu allows you order for check book GBP (in my case) and Naira. Was able to transfer money online from the DOM into the naira account (£1 = NGN 245.77). With UBA you can't do that: you would need to write a letter of instruction to transfer from DOM into naira account. UBA exchange for today was £1 = NGN 240.8.

I would say, though that the customer service from UBA is superb: it beats even UK standard. The response from Diamond Bank is epileptic.

I am looking at the option of sending pounds through Diamond Bank DOM account. Transfering to my DB naira account (via CitiBank) and doing inter-bank transfer to UBA. The time it would take and the charges would determine if this is a viable option. Lost NGN 5000 today with UBA compared to Diamond Bank.

Did you get your debit card in the pack? I was told it would be sent seperately.
Did not get the debit card: I wonder which currency it would be.

I asked them for a naira check book. The Reach Diamond Account is a two in one (GBP and Naira) account according to them. So I think one should get a check for naira too. Obviously, it is the naira one i would likely use when in Nigeria or for buying IPO and PO (for those that require checks).

Looking forward to hearing from them sha.

@ NBA, Etin,

Just got a DHL message about a package. Very sure it is the Diamond Bank Package. I can't really help being disappointed with the first transaction. When i paid the initial amount into the account £1 = N 256. Now the rate is like £1 = N 241.

@ NBA

I recently opened an account with Oceanic Bank. The opening process if faster than Diamond Bank but slower than UBA. They have an account with Deutsche Bank for transfer purposes. Hope their rate is better than UBA.

Their online banking is presently view only due a rectification being carried out. They hope to resolve it soon though.

Having a broker that has an account with Barclays sounds very convenient: am planning to limit online international fund transfers. Which broker(s) have Barclays accounts?
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Banks, Stockbrokers, And Services For Nigerians Abroad by ManJiro(m): 1:21pm On Nov 28, 2007
@ Etin

If you have a DOM account in the same bank as your broker, the best thing would be to ask your Relationship Officer for the exchange rate on the day you want to transfer fund.

The other option would be to ask your broker for the exchange rate, the day the foreign payment was received by them: I am of the view that your broker's account with Citibank is a DOM account.

Diamond Bank seems to have better exchange rate than UBA.

In the PHB PO, they said payment must be by check or bankdraft: Name in check should be same as name in application. Does this mean we have to send checks to brokers?

@ Etin, Tosjay,

I just asked my customer relations contact about sending money to Naija after the initial account opeing. Here is is reply:

After the account opening, you can use the diamond reach account in Citi Bank, London to transfer money to Nigeria . Your account number should be used as the reference.

Cheers

Thank u so much for this valuable info. I'm just at the stage of making payment for my initial deposit.
If we could continue using sort code & acc # to fund our diamond reach acc, I reckon that it'd be the best option for transferring money home.
