Ibk2020:I don't want to share my handle on here yet lol |
Harold4lyf:I applied using my 2008 waec result and got admission so you do not have any issues. I know some schools like George Brown college don't accept waec results older than 10 years as I got refused admission because of that. As for when to start your application for your September intake, as early as possible. I mean you should have started by now. It took me 7 months to get my visa and that made me miss my september intake and now I have to wait till the next intake. |
Davidbanky:JR cost me $3500 CAD or $4000 CAD. I can’t remember the exact figure but it wasn’t more than 4k |
Jameseddi1:No I am not as my program isn't online and requires me to be there physically. My start date is fall of this year. But I already have my visa stamped on my passport |
MARINA49:It means you are on the right track to getting your visa. So congratulations |
If you are a self sponsored applicant you need to pay attention to your application even more. I am a photographer and I was self sponsored with no scholarships. I payed half of my first year tuition and also had enough funds in my account for my remaining one and a half year tuition with living expenses for two years. Because I am a photographer I think I had to show that I had the whole money for my tuition saved as nobody would be here to continue my business even though I told them I had a studio here that’ll continue functioning after I’ve left. I also got rejected twice as my gcms notes said they didn’t think spending that much money to study photography was worth it and blah blah blah with some other things like family ties and all that so I had to switch my course to film making and explain from the angle of how nollywood is really growing and the need for more film makers in Nigeria and all that. I also spoke about how there are no good film schools in Nigeria and Africa in general compared to what’s available in Canada in my SOP. I still got rejected sha and because I knew my application was strong I did a judicial review, settled out of court and got my visa. I also submitted a lot of invoices from work I have done for clients and also submitted the receipts for my camera gear I own just to show that I am really invested in my business. I submitted my business registration (very important) then submitted 3 account statements. One personal, one business and one was a fixed deposit type account with all my study funds in it. For my account statements I used the my VISA bank statement thing so I didn’t have to print out all my bank statements. I just got the slip and uploaded them. I used my parents and siblings as family ties and didn’t submit any land documents and all that as I no get. I also spoke about how I have an established photography business here that I’ll be coming back to. I submitted my waec certificate but I no go uni so I didn’t have that to submit. I think that was the only educational document I submitted. I also submitted a police report. Anyway if you are self sponsored I think you have to show you have enough money for at least two years to be on the safe side. I’m not saying this applies to everyone as visas are granted based on the officers discretion. I hope this helps somebody out there. |
Congrats to everybody who just got their PPR. I come here to read these stories and I’m super happy for every single one of you and I pray the ones waiting also get theirs soon. If you’d like to get your passport back as soon as possible after submitting it, submit it to Abuja. I got mine back in 7-8 days after sending it to Abuja. I think you have to pay extra if you didn’t do your biometrics in Abuja and did it in Lagos but if you’d like to get it back as soon as possible then it’s worth the extra cost. I searched videos on YouTube to see how to send my documents to Abuja and it’s really easy. Just a small tip. Congrats guys!! |
Hey guys! If you are in Confederation college or heading there please reply this message let’s link up. If you are also in Thunder Bay or heading there please reply. Thanks |
Hey guys, Can you travel at anytime now or it still has to be a month before your studies start? |
Hey guys I have a quick question. My visa Expires in July, but my school starts in September. That’s next year of course. When can I travel? Is there still the mandatory 1 month travel period before school starts? Or I can travel anytime? Thanks for your response. |
Hey guys, Please I have a quick question. For those submitting their passports. Did you fill this and also did you submit your biometrics slip? Mine was done in 2017 and I think I just found the slip. Not really sure though.

LholarB:Okay. I didn’t get an email tho |
Omiinii:Yes I did JR and got my PPR. The whole process including my previous application they rejected took over a year though but I am glad I did it. |

Waskylala:I finished in 2008 Confederations College |
LONG POST ALERT! Hey guys! I got my PPR on the 6th and while I can’t remember my whole time line and all the documents I submitted, I want to tell you my story and hopefully it inspires somebody out there. I am self employed so I always knew applying as a self sponsored candidate was going to be tricky but I didn’t want to give up on this dream I had. I’ve been following this forum since 2014 when I didn’t even have money to pay for my visa fee talkless of applying for a study permit but I read and kept checking till I could finally afford to in 2017. I put together my first application which was really flimsy and After 3 months I got rejected for mainly financial reasons. I paid my whole tuition but had only N3m left in my account for feeding and accommodation. That was when I learn that as a self sponsored applicant you should have more than you first year living expenses and tuition. While this isn’t a rule, it’s a safe bet. Anyway business got busy so I decided to use an agent for my next application which was in 2020, mind you I started planning my application in 2019. I got rejected again but this time the reasons didn’t seem to make sense. I submitted my application and paid for my 1st semester tuition and also had N17m in my invested account which was created specifically for my tuition. They said I was going to exhaust my savings and I also didn’t have enough money to take care of my family that will be traveling with me, meanwhile I never said my family would travel with me in my application. My agent thought the response was just really generic and that we should apply for my notes and then do a judicial review if I could afford it. I thought about my options and decided to go with the judicial review late last year. We got a lawyer and I think I paid about $4000 CAD. The lawyer started the process and in January of this year my agent reached out to me to say they are asking for a settlement and that was what we wanted. They said they would reopen my portal and I should reapply. Meanwhile at this point I had spent a lot of the money I kept aside for school. I managed to raise the money back and reapplied again with the same exact documents but this time I wrote another SOP, explained why I had some lump sums in my account, the lawyer wrote to them and the agent too wrote on my behalf. I submitted my application on the last day of the one month period I had which was April 4th and then the wait began. I thought I would get a response asap because it was a judicial review but months came and went without a single word from IRCC. My school was resuming in September so I did my upfront medical in august but it was just updated to passed and nothing else. In September I deferred my admission to next year sept since the course I intend to do which is film making only starts in September. After I deferred I went to write IELTs in preparation for my next application because I just felt like my application would be rejected again and I’ll have to reapply so I started putting things in place and also started raising more money in my account for the next one. Moving forward I stopped asking my agent for updates and just moved on with life. I even forget I put in an application for a Canadian visa and started considering the Uk. The few times I also thought about my application I wanted to tell my agent to withdraw it so I can work on another one for some new schools I just applied to. On the 6th of this month I got a call from my agent in Canada saying my PPR just came through. I didn’t even know how to feel, I’m excited but I’m also overwhelmed. I know this is a long post but it’s just to inspire somebody out there. I am 32, I’m self employed and self sponsored, I only have my WAEC certificate as I did not attend a university and I have applied 3 times to Canada which has been my dream since 2014. I finally got my PPR and I want you to know that if I could do it, you can do it too. I’ll try to share my documents I submitted soon. Please feel free to ask me any questions. |
I don’t even know to feel right now. I just got my PPR today. Been applying as a self employed person since 2017 and this technically my 4th application because after my 3rd application was rejected I had to reapply again the 4th time. I can’t really remember all my time line but I’ll come back and tell you guys my experience since it’s abit different as I am self employed and also had to do a judicial review. |
Hey guys! What’s good? Took a break from here. April 4th applicant after Judicial Review and I am still waiting for a response. If you are still waiting or planning to relocate I’ll advise you start learning a new hubby like coding, designing or maybe photography as these are random jobs you can do to make extra cash in Canada. I know a few photographers in Canada and they are doing really good. If this is something you are passionate about then maybe get on YouTube and start learning. No knowledge is lost. Best wishes to everyone here! |
Congrats to everybody that just got their PPR! More blessings to you. If you were denied I know how painful it is. Just dust your documents, request your GCMS notes and start preparing to re-apply immediately it gets here. Don’t give up. If you can go and write your IELTS so you can hopefully get your replies sooner. I have been rejected twice so I really understand the pain but there is a reason why you started this journey in the first place and good things don’t come easy. |
studywell:Here, still waiting. April 4th |
Jadel03:April 4th applicant lol. No worry I understand |
Jessica50:Sorry man! Order your gcms notes today and let’s go again! |
CONGRATULATIONS!! CaddyT: |
Mikediaye:It’s coming! Believe |
Feyisharah:This just goes to show that it’s al about the VO’s discretion. It’s possible that your application went to another VO. Don’t waste anytime, just get ready and reapply. |
As this rain dey fall make PPR rain on us too |
PPR dey come tomorrow. Just believe it like I do |
Presido95:Please get your medicals done. You’ll need it to Travel. If you don’t there is every possibility you’ll not be allowed into Canada. |
Teemenzo:I just dey look o! Lmao! I’m soo happy for the people who’ve gotten their PPR these passed few days. It’s been crazy how many have been granted. I’ve never seen so many in a short period of time. Unfortunately my application is still silent but I’m not trying to take away from all the joy in this forum. So happy for every single person who’s got theirs. How your side? |
mrkingz:Oh wow! Congrats man! My JR is over 5 months now lol. Na God go help person |
If I no get PPR today that means God no want make I travel this year. I’ll defer and concentrate on work here. |
I’m in the same place as you. I already started looking and applying to schools for January. I don’t know how that’ll work but just keeping my options open. Hopefully somebody with more experience will answer your question. Mummy4life1: |
