I've been working with this company for 10 years as a lift operator. At some point I learnt how to clear fatal and reset the lifts if they got faulty. I can even drive on inspection or reservation. All the while I worked there, I spent almost all I earned financing my family. I, to 80% saw my immediate younger brother and sister through school through my earnings. The only savings I have is less than 16k. That's probably what I will survive on pending when I get a new job.

It's absolutely frustrating. I wish I saved for the rainy day. But how could i have possibly saved when I earned less than a 100k with so much to take care of?

That's is the most unproductive organization In the country.
10% of them are outside the country.
Some haven't gone to work this year.

I don't think this one know the meaning of civil servants , , .. well , let me help your ministry, the ongoing negotiation is to determine what should be the minimum wages for workers in Nigeria whether civil servants or private sectors employees, if you are saying civil servants doesn't deserve their wages because some of them were adjudged by you to be corrupt and hardly show up in office, it's like saying all students in universities should not pay school fees because some lecturers were considered to be lazy and doesn't like to attend classes or give their best to the students..

Let me start with how did we get here, inflation wise.

Inflation start in Buhari regime.

Closing of the border was the first trigger. Buhari closed the borders to encourage farmers without statistics.

He didn't know the volume of rice we consume per month, per year in this country (taking rice as a case study). He didn't know the number of farmers that produce rice and the quantity they produce.

When the demand was more than local production. Price went up. Even at that, locals couldn't meet up with demand. They started snuggling. Food inflation.

General inflation started immediately after COVID 19. There was too much free money in circulation due to yahoo boys. We are still feeling the impact till today even when those free money are no longer available.

you're right on this , they closed bother against rice importation through the land border and start pumping money to the imaginary rice farmers through the CBN, the politicians in turn,after eating the money and have nothing to show for it ,set up wooden pyramids covered by some scanty bags of rice to deceived the public , then the demands raised above the supplies and boom 💥 inflation creeped in.

Go to Publix complaints commission and report him , they would take up your case free of charge and invite the agent with your supposed employer

Meanwhile some semi illiterates will come here and say that some States can't afford to pay minimum wages.

Use your heads. President Tinubu CANNOT dictate the salaries of Senators or Representatives. They are a separate, independent and self-financing arm of government. They can even impeach the President. The President cannot even determine Judges salary. If the NLC is not happy with their pay, then they should face them. They should not make the rest of us pay for their beef with Senators or the National Assembly. Ask for something reasonable, like ₦75,000, and almost 100% of the populace will support you.

Salaries are so low across many sectors in this country.

A Special Assistant that is married with 3 Children who are in private primary and secondary schools in Abuja cannot survive on N850,000 per month. It is no surprise, corruption is widespread.

To be realistic can the average private nursery school in Benue or Osun afford to pay each of their teachers 500,000, and that one-man struggling business can afford to pay their cleaner 500,000k per month or you think minimum wage begins and ends at the public office, in fact, currently some states like Abia states ain't even generating enough to pay the 30k minimum wage,

if level one step one is 500k, how much will fresh graduates which usually start at level 8 receive, 3.5million monthly I guess, then a level 13/14 senior public servant will receive 13m monthly or do you intend to pay level one step one 500k but intend to pay level fourteen 600k?

There is one thing you need to understand; if a governor said he can't pay the minimum wages that doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't have the resources to but he simply doesn't see it as priority, Bello yahaya , former governor of kogi state claimed he doesn't have money for workers salary and refused to pay for several months but @ the end of his tenure he his doing "bojuboju" for EFCC because of the billions of naira he looted while in office.

Real wage is the actual value of the naira.
Normal wage is the face value.. Which is what labour is asking to be reviewed upward.

The UK u talked about, they do everything right to ensure that their real wage doesn't fall.

Government must tackle insecurity that drives away investors, they must ensure farmers are able to go to farm unhurt, they must support farmers that grows this crops, end importation of fuel, seek way to address excessive borrowing, and seek ways to ask for debt forgiveness and pay debt borrowed..
Lastly they should ensure state governors are accountable.

No economic theory will support wage increase by 100% not alone 500%


If government should peg 400,000 as minimum wage then you should be ready to pay your maid, gate man, security guards, drivers etc 400,000 as salary.

But there is economic theory to support the removal of subsidies on petroleum, floating of naira , over 200% increase in the salaries of judicial officers, billions of naira spending to buy bullets proofs SUV vehicles for the legislative members, billions of naira on budget padding and trillion of naira for Coast road from calabar to Lagos? , The payment of minimum wages is only applicable to people that have up to 25 and above employees in their organization.
