It’s obvious that you don’t know what the loan is all about or how it is going to operate. There is nothing concerning ASUU in the loan, as there is no point in asking ASUU to guarantee or serve as surety. The money is meant for university staff, and the beneficiaries are supposed to repay it from their salaries. I don’t need to know the name of the cooperative, as that is immaterial to the discussion here. What is important is this: what else could make a man think that a ₦5 million loan at 10% interest, repayable within 24 to 36 months, is better than a ₦10 million interest-free loan with a 10-year repayment period, if not ignorance?

The welfare of all security agencies in the country needs to be holistically reviewed upward. If the government is truly serious about the fight against insecurity facing the nation, then it must prioritize the welfare of security personnel. Young Nigerians are becoming increasingly skeptical about joining the military and paramilitary agencies whilst those already there are quitting in their numbers and I do not blame them. It is more lucrative and safer to work in organizations such as the CBN, NDIC, NAFDAC, or NESREA than to risk one’s life for a meager sum of less than $100 monthly in the military and paramilitary.

Your lecturer friend is a novice who just picked his appointment letter last Monday. Cooperatives particularly ACADA have been a lifesaver to countless academic staff. Most charge less than 10 percent and they can barely keep up. One can join with as low as 5k deduction monthly. Even at that one can still take loan facility from other sources. They do annual financial reports so every kobo is accounted for. Cooperatives save families particularly during strikes so tell your lecturer to go and rest and pay up his acada loan. Government is a continuity and so they should settle an agreement and see if loan is required to uplift the working conditions of academics. Why be in a rush to release a loan facility in less than 2 months but footdrag on implementing an agreement borne out of collective bargaining? You dey owe me money but u wan give me loan. You're either one of the executives of the so-called University Co-op my friend mentioned, or your relative is a benefactor of the status quo. I don’t know how a 10% interest Co-op loan that cannot give you more than ₦5m would be better than an interest-free loan that can give you as much as ₦10m.
