Fresh facts have surfaced over the Wednesday (May 7) morning arrest of singer, 9ice by men of the Nigerian Police. According to HHW Magazine investigations, 9ice allegedly broke traffic rules while driving around the Bariga area and after all entreaties made to him by the policemen to stop went unheeded, the traffic policemen gave chase and shot at one of the wheels of the Honda Accord car he was driving in to bring it to a halt. As at the time of filing the report, his lawyer, Chukwuma Ezediaro, has visited the station to seek the release of the artiste from the Ilaje-Bariga police station where he was taken to after his arrest. HHW Magazine also gathered that the artiste was indeed battered by policemen as earlier reported. He was left with a black eye and bruises in some parts of his body. A top police brass in Lagos State has also reportedly waded into the matter after he was contacted about the singer's plight. The singer has since been released. |
In a bid to establish a non governmental organization that focus on helping less privileged kids - particularly those who are interested in going into music - Olu Maintain, Naija's muso of the moment, has taken a bold and benevolent step of adopting three Ghanaian kids. Commenting on his decision to adopt the trio, namely Esther, Samuel and Joseph Owosu, the hip-hop sensation said he would rather play down the publicity of his charity organization but would still like to do what he can to help the needy. It has come to light that the three kids who appeared in his ‘Yahooze' video now live in the singer's Ikeja home and attend IVJ College in Ikeja. Big ups to the dude! |

I watched Prime Time Africa on AIT last Friday and saw Psquare won the award for 'Best African Artists of the Year', a category our own 2Face Idibia was also nominated for at the Ghana Music Award. Just last month at the AfricanHiphopWorld awards, Psqaure didn't pick just a single award out of the many nominations they got. The outburst of disappointment from their Director and Elder brother Jude attracted so much attention both at home and abroad. Does it mean Psquare is a prophet with no honour at home? |
I stumbled over this track titled 'The Last man Standing' by Eedris Abdulkarem on AIT. I must confess, this dude has stepped up his game; the song has nice concept, nice lyrics, nice video etc. If you have also watched it, lets feel your view too! |

The British Council in conjunction with African Hip Hop Movement will be hosting the monthly Words and Pictures (WAPI) seminar come the April, 26. The African Hip Hop Movement is an initiative of ace lyricist, Mode 9. The movement is a body consisting of artistes, DJs, on air personalities, Hip-Hop heads and veterans. It is backed with the determination to orientate the Nigerian and African populace about Hip Hop and what it represents. Words and Pictures is an initiative of the British Council. The monthly programme is designed to discover young and talented writers, artists and musicians. It will also serve as a medium to relay the objectives of African Hip Hop Movement. |

A little boy went into a drug store, reached for a soda carton and pulled it over to the telephone. He climbed onto the carton so that he could reach the buttons on the phone and proceeded to punch in seven digits (phone numbers). The store-owner observed and listened to the conversation: Boy: "Lady, Can you give me the job of cutting your lawn? Woman: (at the other end of the phone line): "I already have someone to cut my lawn." Boy: "Lady, I will cut your lawn for half the price of the person who cuts your lawn now." Woman: I'm very satisfied with the person who is presently cutting my lawn. With a smile on his face, the little boy replaced the receiver. The store-owner, who was listening to all this, walked over to the boy. Store Owner: "Son, I like your attitude; I like that positive spirit and would like to offer you a job." Boy: "No thanks, Store Owner: But you were really pleading for one. Boy: No Sir, I was just checking my performance at the job I already have. I am the one who is working for that lady I was talking to!" This is what we call "Self Appraisal" |
The Benue born Abuja based rap artist who already has two albums to his credit 'Millennium Bugging' and 'Six O'Clock' respectively recently stated that "My New Album is due out in the not too distant future" His tracks like 'Anwili', 'Millennium buggin', 'meaningless rap song', 'E don do me', 'Abuja rocks' etc has definately portrayed him as one of the best MCs in Nigeria with unique lyrical abilities. * The video clip for "Spazmodic" featuring Terry tha rapman and Modenine is done. It’s going to be unveiled on MTV Base as an exclusive before being broadcasted on any other TV Station across Africa and beyond. It was shot in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria and directed by Terry Madaki & Olusegun Babatunde while it was co-directed by Bobby Hai. *THE BOYZ ARE NOT SMILING Videos are almost being rounded up. It comes out in volumes 1&2. The video compilation will include most of the videos that are out and some new ones too. *Terry’s currently working on a re-issue of THA RAPMAN BEGINZ. He felt the album was not promoted and distributed right. There’ll be some new joints on it, one of which is a sampled song from the Stereoman himself aptly titled SAMPLE featuring Pherowshuz. *Also, working on a mixtape in collaboration with the two DJ kings: DJ Jimmy Jatt & DJ Humility on the JOE SPAZM MIXTAPE, to give fans an insight to his alter-ego "Joe Spazm." *Tha Rapman had 2007’s MBGN (Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria) Munachi Abii (Babyrella) on a song on the album (My P.H. Girl) even though; the song wasn’t pushed as they wanted because of her beauty queen restrictions. They’re working on her album and another collabo is on its way. *Terry tha rapman and FECKO recently collaborated on a controversial joint aptly titled "Naija Home Video." The track is yet to hit the airwaves because it’s still in the works at the moment. A small touching story mainly for professionals, A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door. SON: "Daddy, may I ask you a question?" DAD: "Yeah sure, what is it?" replied the man. SON: "Daddy, how much do you make an hour?" DAD: "That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?" the man said angrily. SON: "I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?" DAD: "If you must know, I make $100 an hour." SON: "Oh," the little boy replied, with his head down. SON: "Daddy, may I please borrow $50?" The father was furious, "If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behavior." The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money? After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $50 and he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door. "Are you asleep, son?" He asked. "No daddy, I'm awake," replied the boy. "I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier" said the man. "It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you, Here's the $50 you asked for." The little boy sat straight up, smiling. "Oh, thank you daddy!" He yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father. "Why do you want more money if you already have some?" the father grumbled. "Because I didn't have enough, but now I do," the little boy replied. "Daddy, I have $100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you." The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness. It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $100 worth of your time with someone you love. If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family & friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family. |
The Nigeria Football Association on Saturday lodged a strongly-worded complaint to the FA in England asking for sanctions against Everton manager David Moyes. Below is a copy of the letter; "The purpose of this letter is to lay complaint against the Manager of English Premiership club, Everton FC, Mr David Moyes who was widely quoted by the world media on Thursday 21st February 2008 as suggesting that his Nigerian striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni is above the age he presents. "On a night that Aiyegbeni scored a hat-trick to become the first Everton player to score a hat-trick in Europe in 23 years, Mr. Moyes said, inter alia: "What people don't appreciate is that he's only 25, albeit a Nigerian 25, and so if that is his age he's still got a good few years ahead of him. "This statement is an unambiguous insult on a whole nation, and the biggest black nation in the world for that matter, and we demand an unreserved apology from the said Mr. Moyes. "Mr. Moyes' statement is capable of not only exposing our player, Yakubu Aiyegbeni to ridicule but also capable of reducing his market value as a professional footballer and at the same time, capable of undermining the bargaining power of other Nigerian professional players. "We demand also that Mr. Moyes must be expressly cautioned for insinuating that a civilized nation encourages age cheating, and he should find a way to return to the world media and decry his own statement." |

IT'S EASY FOR SUCH PLAYERS TO ASSEMBLE EASILY FOR EITHER FRIENDLY MATCHES OR ANY NATIONAL DUTY SINCE IT IS WITHIN THE SAME COUNTRY THAN ALWAYS DEPENDING ON THE BIG BOYS WHO HARDLY GET TIME TO HONOUR NATIONAL CALLS, ETC. THE NFA SHOULD TRY USING OUR HOME BASED EAGLES FROM NOW BEFORE 2010, THEY MAY BE MATURED ENOUGH TO MATCH ANY SQUAD STEP BY STEP. I will start with the obvious- We won 1994, 14 years after our first win in 1980. We won 3 silver medals and one bronze in between. Between 1994 and 2008 is 14yrs and we have won 3 bronze and 1 silver since then. In 1994 we won with Christian Chukwu, capt of the winning team as the assistant coach, this year Augustine Eguavon, the assistant capt and capt for the final match (in the absence of injured Keshi) is the assistant coach. In 1994 we trained in Sweden before the ANC and everybody was complaining about the perceived cold, this year we trained in Malaga, Spain and everybody tells us the weather is too cold too. We were in group B in 1994 and we are in group B now. In 1993 we won Under-17 WC and a year later we won the ANC. We won Under-17 WC last year, so go figure. Now, the outrageous, Brazil won the world cup in 1994 after 24yrs, same year we won. No WC this year, so at the last world cup Italy won it after-you guessed it 24years!!! Now the completely outrageous at Euro 92 the last Euros before ANC 94, Denmark won against all odds and in 2004 the last euros Greece won against all odds too. And now the ridiculous, we will win in the final with Nsofor (who is the new kid on the block) scoring two goals in the final against Ivory Coast, just like Amunike (the new kid on the block at the time), did in 1994. So I say, we cannot have these coincidences without the expected outcome coming to pass!!! |
A new mixtape by the Africanhiphop.com titled African Hip Hop: the Naija Chapter with some of the best of naija producers and artists doing their thing had the following emcees and producers who worked on this mixtape ; The Apprentice, Kahli, Oaks, C-Drill, Juice & Mr Rhed, Booggie 1, O.T., Teckzilla, R-cube & Enigma, N.You.D.I.V.A (aka Nameless), Modenine, Rukus ft Soulbrotha, MHP & Sublime, Konko (aka Donmash), Nfeeltraita, Fishe, Manoozy, I-Shine, Kid Konnekt, Teckzilla, Rae (str8 butta productions), Big Foot, MHP, C-Drill and Afterburna. Modenine on his track from the mixtape titled 'All the way' did some word play which he is normally known of, . the most catchy one to me is this You be claiming Baba this, Baba that, you're not a father, You got intellect myopia so when I diss a baba, it is not Ethiopia. Could he have directed this to any one?

I listened to this dude's 17 tracks album recently, I must confess that, I've never heard such good sounds from a Nigerian before. Samsung is really the definition of R&B in naija. Gone are those days when we hear such good sounds, we say 'He is too good to be a Nigerian' now is, 'He is so good to be a Nigerian'. If someone thinks similar or otherwise, lets feel you. |
End of the Race (25th Nov. 2007) By grace I started the race, I’ve come this far by his grace. Now I look at the end point in the face, Though gradually I moved from the base, Steadily but consciously I moved at my pace. I’ve being through it for a while, I’ve seen and felt a whole lot of things, Diverse people and experiences; Some got me fazed, Others had me hazed, Some got me vexed. But in between these, I had reasons to smile Though I knew it was for a while. I now have multiple reasons to smile. Not just for getting to this end, History has been made also. I’ve being through the fires, I’ve walked through the cold, Starvation shook hand with me Yet, I stood the test of time. Finally, I’ve been given the prize, Yes, for being this wise. My mum and siblings receive with joy, The celebration goes wild. Amidst the joy and celebration, I have but a lamentation, Oh, Dad left before it all happened. I peep through my window, Out there I see a jungle, I can’t afford to fumble Still by grace I’ll rise without tumble. Eedris Abdul Kareem and his erstwhile enemy Ruggedman have completed their much publicized collabo single, titled “Ko le ye won” (they can’t understand). The single will be dished off Eedris’ next 21 tracks album tagged ‘RETURN OF THE KING’. The collabo cut talks about Eedris’ clash with 50 Cents, comments to his ‘Jaga Jaga’ and ‘Letter to Mr. President’ singles. He used the same joint to elucidate his stance in all of these experiences. A line from the single quotes "2Face wan' be like Obasanjo but I want to be like Fela". The intent of that line can only be explained by the rapper himself. Masterminding the production of most songs on the album is fast rising producer, Puffy Tee who also produced the remix of “Wifey” for defunct group Maintain featuring Eedris. Another tip off from a source close to the returning rapper revealed that two songs from the album were produced by Dr Dre through Unisoul Music and Sony BMG. The album is going to be released later in the year on Eedris' personal record label 'Lakreem records'. |

Those asking for a link to the post, I have posted the topic as a first hand wittness. I'm an original Benue boy, tiv by tribe, born, bred and currently resides in Gboko. This is the most recent news rocking the whole of Benue State- it is on a wide spread covering other Local Goverments in Benue after my post. And for those who do not know, Benue is a 95% christian state with most of the few musilims non indigenes. The present Govenor Rt. Hon Gabriel Suswam is also a christian so, the issue of 'sharia' or 'Islamization' is completly out of place in this exercise. Benue is tagged the 'Food Basket of the Nation' cos of her high level of Food and cash crop production like yam, cassava, beans, g/nuts, soya beans etc- it baffles me to hear someone say say we contribute very little to the economy of the nation. |
Benue has gone agog with different feelings from different quarters in the last one week. The state Government in a bid to uplift moral standard amongs her citizen recently announced that, all civil servants in the state must always dress coporately and decently to work and public offices.Has this act gotten to your area or it is only peculiar to Benue State? I watched this dude yesterday on the Soundcity Mtn top 10 chart. He goes by the name GT aka Guiterman while the title of the tracks is 'Dreamer'. The song no doubt contains rich vocal prowless, nice concept and a captivating video. He seems to be quite young and with age on his side, he can sure take naija and the world atlarge by storm with his voice in the nearest future. If you've heard this youngman, let the world know what you feel. |
Lanre Fasasi also known as Sound Sultan a.k.a Naija Ninja may not have sliced so hard with his sophomore album ‘Text book’ if compared to his breakthrough effort - ‘Kpsssheeew’ (sound of frustration) that had the laudable single - ‘Jagbajantis’. Yet Sultan is not relenting on his effort as he will be unveiling his latest album on the 7th of July 2007 which also doubles as his 7th year on stage. The Naija Ninja’s first single from the ternion opus is already basking massive air play radio stations-wide. This album features Sultan in his demeanour, expressing his versatility from different dimensions yet not leaving out his usual message of political uprightness, love and encouragement. ‘Naija 007’ will be Sultan’s second album on Kennis Music. His first album on the respected label did not make much an impact as far as sales turn out is concerned. For an artiste like Sultan who’s respected for his thought provoking lyrics and messages one cannot but wonder what would have gone down. Speaking with him he points out that the lack of structural planning and promotion of his previous album may have been the cause for the low turn up of his first album. He professed cordiality with Kennis Music against speculations that he was having issues with them. |
I got a copy of the Tetmosol compilation CD from an Ibo friend who rightly informed me each Tetmosol soap sealed package has a copy in it. The CD is titled 'Tetmosol-Girl Powder Unleashed' with tracks from some of the best contemplary female Nigerian female artist such as Ashionye, Sasha, Amaka, Zeal, Amina, Blaise, Kemistry, Niyola etc. Though, it's clearly written on it 'Not for retail'. The compilation is no doubt one of the best compilations in the history of Nigeria. If you've been opportuned to listen to the CD, lets know what you feel. |
