Our politically-conscious dancehall artiste, African China is in some serious crisis right now, as he was arrested ealier this month for allegedly raping a lady in his hotel room in London. He was in London where he performed at the Basketmouth’s Laffs & Jams after which he later attended the After- Party with the lady in question. They were reported to have retired to China’s hotel room afterwards, both allegedly drunk. However, the lady was said to have cried foul the next morning, claiming China had had intercourse with her without her consent (she was under the influence of alcohol the night before) efforts by an obviously disturbed African china to appease her proved abortive. The lady whose identity was not disclosed invited the police claiming she had been raped by the Nigerian music star. According to sources, the artiste may be released on bail once a payment of five thousand pounds is effected. Though, his management team is making arrangements to offset the bail requirement from the upfront appearance fee paid to the conscious lyrisist by Nigerian Breweries Plc for this year’s edition of Star Trek which started April 28, 2006

Keke's appearance in the video is no problem at all; He is a promoter of music and entertainment in general. The most important thing is the quality of the video. It's time we put sentiments aside and reason logically. |
You can get the best option to select the artist music from a naija artist of your choice from www.agidi.co/music |
Swange is a contemporary popular social dance of the Tiv people of Benue State in Central Nigeria. It is a dance of fast, slow, rhythmic and undulating movements, expressing youth and vigour. Swange is played at various types of social and religious functions for the enjoyment of the old and the young. Sixfootplus had this to say about it "Swange is the name given to the traditional dance of the Tiv-speaking people of Benue state of Nigeria . The dance is characterized by rhythmic contortion in slow mode & vibrant display, typical of African dance forms. It is heavily percussion- based, aided by a traditional horn (al-gaita), which blows in an unbroken succession for as long as the drumming, Singing and dancing is going on." Some Benue artists mix this dance pattern up with their stage performances to the admiration of their fans; notable amond these are, Zulezoo, Bravo D, Sixfootplus etc. If you have been opportuned to listen to swange music or watched the swange dance, let us know what you feel about it.

I first heard one of his tracks 'anyam a mo' on Ray Power FM Abuja last year. I was in Benue this year when I heard the same track and 2 others of his tracks from his promotonal album played on 'the food basket FM Makurdi'. The dude sings both in Tiv(his mother tongue) and Pidgin language, I really like the songs I've heard so far. The 'anyam a mo' track with chorus and title in Tiv language is definately a club banger with very interesting beats while 'fully booked' is something else. I don't know much about this young man anyway though, I heard he is based in Abuja and an indegene of Benue State. If anyone has heard or known him or got any usefull information about him please, let us know this guy too. |
bolex:This Eedris and Ruggedman pic was long after the diss: it was taken early last month in Germany when the two and other Nigerian artist went there for a performance tour. I only pity those who have decided to hate Eedris for life because of the diss while Ruggedman himself is still running things with Eedris cordially. |
Only important people are spoken of this much assuch. Come to think of it, Ruggedman in his 'ehen' track dissed Eedris, Maintain, Rasque etc- how come no body talks of these other guys but Eedris ? cos, all this noice about 'Eedris is not good in raps' came just after Ruggedman's diss- who said this during his days in Remedies and even his Mr Lecturer Album abi una been no the hear him that time?

Dare Art Alalade Eyes The Grammy Born on the 9th of February in Lagos Maternity Hospital, Dare Art-Alade originally comes from Kogi State. Nearly two years out of the Project Fame Academy, many expected Dare’s album to have been released long before now. The album, which contains such songs as Young Man, Escalade, Fuji and Eko Ile, was launched at a red carpet ceremony on Saturday, April 8, at the Expo Centre of the prestigious Eko Hotel, in Lagos. The producers he has worked with on this album are Cobhams, Don Jazzy, El Dee and Tebogo Moloto (from Project Fame). With a general theme including love, inspiration, dance; Kenyan representative, Didge (also from the Project Fame Academy) features on one of the tracks. In this 17-track debut album called 'From Me To You', Dare (as he is better known) has chosen different modes of expressing himself. In this regard, he can’t strictly classify his kind of music. “My kind of music is influenced by different elements. I might choose to express myself through jazz, dancehall, reggae, rap…whatever. My music is not restricted to any particular genre”, he said. From Me To You is a dazzling debut album that closes gaps between young and old, contemporary and classic, African and Western. It’s a work of surprising maturity from a 24-year-old singer, writer, artist and composer whose seemingly infinite creative resources put him at the forefront of Storm’s new revolution in Nigerian sound. To be an established Nigerian musician who is giving back to his people through charity, as well as having a Grammy or two if God wills, is where Dare sees himself in 20 years time.

I've listened to her whole album, I own it too. Definately, Bouqui pronounced Bukky is a hot contemplary gospel artists. She raps like crazy- can contest favorably well with the naija rap world male folks.

This two great songs by Age Beeka won't just get out of my head- 'Girl of my dreams' and 'Angelica '
|
On the international scene, I have Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams and Darlene zeach(I'm not sure of the spelling). Here in Naija, I have Jeremiah Gyang, Romeo the frontlina and Ebiere. |
I sure like Styl-plus' music as a group but, it's no big deal if they split up cos, most boy-bands that split up do even better. This even provide the fans the opportunity to seperate the wheat from the chaff. How many Plantation fans knew Faze was this talented? I don't pray nor anticipate their break up though but incase it happens, it's still part of the game. |
If we're talking of contemplary naija music in genres like hiphop, rap and R&B, it is an understatement to say the Northen part of naija top the chart of quality musical aritists but, to be more precise, the Middle-belt region with states like Benue, Plateau, Nassarawa and the FCT in particular. If you're in doubt, check out this list: - Age Beeka, Sixfootplus, 2face, Blackface, Bravo D, Jeremiah Gyang, Dr. Fresh, El-dee, Romeo, the Zule-zoos, Pheroshuz, Terry the rapman, Rule-Clean, Blast, Zaaky Adzer etc etc It's quite an unending list.

Could it be that Eedris performed 'Nigeria jagajaga' and African China performed 'Our Government Bad'? Below are some of the images from the Tour.

Some of Nigerians most wanted hiphop & dancehall artists visited germany for a one week tour. The project was put together by out|here rec and funded by the Bundeszentrale fuer politische Bildung (a part of the educational board of the German government). The guests Eedris Abdulkareem & One Kilo, African China, Ruggedman, Rule Clean, Bantu and Modenine played 5 awesome shows in Germany. They were there not just to perform but also to visit schools in Munich, Berlin, Leipzig and Hamburg to give students a feel for what’s going on in Nigeria; giving them a street level youth perspective. My point of concern is that, most of our artist sing about how bad Nigeria is. With guys like Eedris in 'jagajaga', African China in 'Mr President' , 'Our Govt. bad' and Modenine in '419 state of mind pts I & II' among the artists that addressed the German Students, I keep wondering -WHAT DID THEY TELL THE GERMANS ABOUT NAIJA? Any one with an idea should pls post it.

Comrade Advin and fellow nairalanders, it's absolute falsehood to say naija music has not grown. Gone are the days when juju and afro music was the only genre played in the country- now, our artist have diversified into almost all patterns of music one can think of on this planet. Any one that does not listen to quality naija music now may probably have some problems with selection. From hiphop, R&B, pop, rap, reggae, gospel, to traditional african music, we've got arrays of quality sounds and creative arts which one can boast of to compete any standard in any part of the world. When Wyclef came to Nigeria, he advised our guys to refuse being called local artist because they have all it takes to win the grammy- didn't you hear when Wyclef shook Modenine after his perfomance at Abuja and told him 'Guy you're tight- keep it up' Incase you don't know what to listen to and who to listen to, I'll try to give you guys some very few names that may come to my mind just now Rap- Modenine, Ruggedman, Terry the Rapman, Pheroshuz, Alabai, Jaffar, Dr. Fresh, etc R&B- Age Beeka, Tu-Face, Faze, Stylplus, Asha, Obiwon, Dijinee, etc Hiphop- Blackface, 2shotz, Mekoyo, Soul Clan, Blacktribe, Rule Clean, Tribunal, Bravo D etc Gospel- Romeo, Jeremiah Gyang, Ebiere, KSB, etc Reggae- Rymzo, Bukky, African China etc Ragga- Jungulist, Danfo Drivers, Prof Linkin, Faya, infact all the Ajegunle based artists African beats- the Kerewa boys(Zulezoo), I can go on and on but, just to show you we have grown passed the level we were in the eighties, naija is going grammy so, Watch out! Just of recent, our own artist were on tour of Germany perfoming and address school children a project put together by out|here rec and funded by the Bundeszentrale fuer politische Bildung (a part of the educational board of the German government).

That's great! I love Ruggedman, I also trip well for Mode nine and feel the ehen pt 2 is a serious development in the naija hiphop industry. Afterall, modey in his elbow room made a call that all the real hiphop heads converge so together, they can purge the industry. Go ahead Rugged, I'm eager to hear and feel such 'cleansing' and, some one tell Mode nine to reply quickly cos he's the lyricist we all know.

Free:Miss Free, I just don't understand such big question. I also don't want to believe you're ignorant of the above mentioned artists cos, they are some of the best on the African continent(naija is leadingin the industry). You may be permitted not to have heard about them if you're not Nigerian. |

Seuntech, how has 2Face cheated and who did he cheat? You have to open up if you're truely sure you know what you claim to know. seuntech: |
This is 2Face's time. Though the guy is good, he is not the best in Nigeria even at the moment. Please, I have nothing against 2Face o, I'm one of his die hard fans, I love him to the bone but, contrary to his numerous fans, my best track from him is 'Right here'. The truth of the matter is that, who God has blessed, no man can curse- that is the secret behing his success. |
