Crisis in the Rivers state Peoples Democratic Party, PDP deepened as sixteen governorship aspirants in Rivers state boycotted today’s ward and local government congresses of the party. They accused Patience Jonathan, wife the president of unwarranted meddlesomeness in the affairs of the party and openly endorsing, Nyesom Wike, the former of State for Education. They stated their feelings in a communiqué endorsed by the 16 aspirants. They demanded that the ward and local government congresses in the state be postponed until the crisis in the party be resolved to allow fair and equitable participation of all aspirants. President Goodluck Jonathan who arrived Port Harcourt on Friday, has however travelled to Otueke in Bayelsa, his home state, to participate in his party’s ward and local government congresses of the PDP. The aspirants said: “we want to put it on record that the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan has publicly, not in her house, but in the house of one of the aspirants, endorsed the aspirant. They also alleged that: “the First Lady has also approached some of our aspirants to step down and even invited them to a dinner/meeting in the Presidential Villa. We have constrained ourselves from addressing the unacceptable and unfortunate interference of the first Lady in the affairs of the Rivers state PDP because of the enormous respect we have for our son, President Jonathan, but we want to say enough is enough”. The 16 PDP aspirants under the canopy of Rivers Mainstream Coalition, held a mega rally at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, calling for national leadership of the party to avoid an impeding tragedy that would befall the party and the state if the former Minister, Nyesom Wike, becomes the party’s flag bearer in 2015 election. The aspirants who were drawn mainly from the riverine Ijaw part of the state and Ogoni warned that for the state to live together in harmony power must rotate between the upland and the riverine. They pointed out that the national leadership and the President have been misled to believe that those of them asking for power shift from Ikwerre (upland) are working for the incumbent governor, Rotimi Amaechi and the All Progressive Congress, APC. Dumo Lulu-Briggs, one of the aspirants warned that so much lies have been told to deceive the people. The aspirants pointed out that all them are working for the President but for the governorship position power must rotate just as PDP has agreed that rotation must go to the Eket Zone in Akwa-Ibom and Igbo speaking part of Delta, Delta North Senatorial district. He noted that this should also apply in Rivers state PDP. “Reelection of the president is irreversible and irrevocable because he is the best president the country has ever had” On his part, a former aide to the President, Becks Dagogo-Jack said that the rally was to ensure that bloodletting and violence do not envelope the state because of the ambition of a few who want to turn the constitution of the party on its head. “The tree of violence must be uprooted. Nobody’s ambition is worth another person’s blood”. For Samson Ngerebara, an engineer and former Commissioner for Works it is personal glorification for the supporters of Wike to say that the sacking of the former executive of the party led by Chief Godspower Ake, was loyal to Governor Amaechi. He warned that: “Let nobody take our civility and the coming together of all the aspirants as a sign of weakness”. Gabriel Pidomson, an Ogoni and former Secretary to State Government SSG, under brief period of Sir Celestine Omehie as Governor said justice must prevail in the state PDP. “We shall not be slaves and we shall resist Amaechi handing over to his brother from Ikwerre. Felix Obuah, the Chairman of PDP, in his reaction dismissed the claims by the aspirants as those coming from “desperate politicians”, who are doing everything to frustrate the party and that they will fail as the party has put every arrangement to ensure that the party congresses go on smoothly and the party will triumph. The aspirants include: Prince Tonye Princewill, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, Becks Dagogo Jack, Gabriel Pidomsom, Senator Lee Maeba and Dr Silva Opusunju. Others are Prof Dan Baridam, Samson Ngerebara, Paweriso Samuel Horsfall, Nimi Wilson Jack, Major Lancelot Ayanya rtd among others. source: PM news |

The Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Youth Empowerment, Obi Adim, on Monday obtained the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, form to contest the governorship election in Imo in 2015. Mr. Adim, joined by his supporters, picked the form at the PDP state office on Okigwe Road, Owerri. He later told journalist that his priority, if elected as governor, would be to reduce the high rate of unemployment among the youth. “The level of unemployment among the youth in the state is something else and that will be given serious attention if I am elected as governor in 2015”, he said. Mr. Adim said he had lined up more than 10 companies that would create approximate of 50,000 jobs for the youth, to address the problem. “Already some of the companies have sent in their letters of intents”, adding that on the day of his swearing in as governor of the state, the companies would sign the agreement. According to Mr. Adim, some of the companies will go into manufacturing, food processing and packaging, while others will go into ship building facility in Oguta area. He said that others would venture into affordable housing. Mr. Adim said “the whole essence is to make Imo progressively business friendly, to attract more companies that would continue to create employment opportunities for the workforce”. He said that his policies and programmes would be built around 10 key issues that concerned an average person in the state. He promised to ensure proper medical care, security and affordable housing and environment. Receiving the aspirant, the state Chairman of PDP, Namdi Anyaehie, assured him of a level playing ground for all aspirants. “Our duty is to ensure that the process of conducting primaries is transparent”. |

Former Chelsea manager Ruud Gullit, has rejected an opportunity to handle the Super Eagles, because of fears over the spread of the Ebola virus and kidnapping. According to BBC, the Dutchman has been contacted to take over the African champions, after the Eagles’ remaining two 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo and South Africa. However, Gullit might not take the job his agent claims it is “high risk”, especially with the upcoming elections. “Gullit is not interested in coaching Nigeria,” his agent informed the BBC . “His agent said the job is high risk. he spoke about Ebola and fears about terrorism in Nigeria and he said for those reasons, his client will not be keen.” |

THE Nigeria Football Federation (NNF) Chairman, Amuja Pinnick, on Friday, disclosed that the country’s ruling football body had signed a deal with a company that has agreed to bankroll the salary of a new foreign coach for one full year. He said the NFF has concluded the deal that would take the country’s football and the Super Eagles to greater heights. He spoke at the Ikoyi Club 1938 Table Tennis Tournament, Lagos, sponsored by the Arco Petrochemical Company Limited. “Only today, I was privileged to get to a company…it’s not that we don’t believe in Nigerian coaches, we believe so much in Nigerian coaches, but right now we need a foreign coach to actually train and rediscover our potentials. “We concluded a deal to sign a foreign coach and the company has agreed to pay the foreign coach for one full year. We have done that. Our approach is basically scientific and you will see the result in due course,” Pinnick said. According to the new NFF helmsman, who spoke on football without relegating the table tennis championship he came for: “There is an event going on right now in Nigeria. I was elected exactly three weeks ago. From then till now I have turned grey; that shows that football is a very tedious business. But our approach this time is basically scientific. Like I told someone, United Kingdom (UK) today is not the best footballing nation. “But today they have the best and richest football culture. And that is exactly what we are trying to do in Nigeria. Victory to us is not defined by winning laurels everyday, but victory to us is creating a scientific approach to sustaining football development in Nigeria, where you can go to the stadium with your kids and watch matches.” Mr. Pinnick, however, said that the reason for the choice of a foreign coach was for the country to redeem its pride of place in the footballing world. “Our approach is long, short, and medium terms. Our short approach is creating a data-base of the best Nigerians players.” “For example, Obafemi Martins is the hottest commodity today, I wonder why you will go to China to get a player instead of Martins. NNF will not allow that. We are going to give from a pool of players to take from. Our Federation will also get all the clubs to have the Under-13 clubs where they will have their own junior league. Our approach is basically to get them young and nurture them. |

In a bid to rally support for the Super Eagles in the make or break 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan wednesday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has resolved to throw the gates to the National Stadium in Abuja open for fans to watch the game free. The Super Eagles were brought to earth following their 1-0 loss to Sudan in Khartoum on Saturday which leaves them on the verge of failing to qualify for the continental soccer showpiece which holds in Morocco early next year. Apparently to shore up support for the team and save the embarrassing prospect of playing in an empty stadium, NFF management met and promptly decided that it was waiving the gate fees earlier fixed. Fans were originally expected to pay between N200 and N3000 as cost of various categories of ticket to enter the stadium. SunSport learnt from reliable NFF sources that cancellation of gate fees was the right decision to be made given the current circumstances. The federation intends to use the gesture to encourage the fans to come out in large numbers to cheer the team. The impact of the gesture remains to be seen considering that Abuja fans have the reputation for not turning out en-masse at the National Stadium which has a capacity for 50,000 fans. Such is the alarming loss of form of Nigeria, the defending champions of the Africa Cup of Nations that the team groomed by under-fire coach Stephen Keshi, has only logged one point after three matches, to occupy the bottom position in the qualifying group comprising South Africa, Congo and Sudan. The team regrouped last evening for their second training session since they returned from Sudan, with all the invited players, bar the injured Ahmed Musa and Babatunde Michael, both who stayed out of the session. Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo, and NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, were among those who watched the team’s training session last night. They appealed to the Eagles to rise to the occasion against Sudan. Danagogo, particularly charged the team to put smiles on the faces of the public still in shock following their poor display in Khartoum. The minister asked the team to ensure they win the home match against the north Africans with a convincing margin and their remaining fixtures against Congo and South Africa. “I am appealing to you to put in more effort on Wednesday and show the right attitude as the public is displeased with your performance in the qualifying series. You must prove that you are the champions of Africa,” Danagogo pleaded. |
Former Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert has pulled out of the race to become Ghana's new boss. In his place, German Bernd Schuster has been included in the five-man shortlist. The vacant Black Stars coaching position now has the following four on the shortlist, too: Michel Pont, Marco Tardelli, Avram Grant and Juan Ignacio Jimenez. According to the Ghana FA, Pont and Tardelli will arrive in Accra to be interviewed on October 17 while Grant and Jimenez will be interviewed a day later. On standby is Ricardo Gareca. |
Portuguese club Boavista have completed the signing of Nigeria striker Michael Uchebo on a free transfer. The 24-year-old, who left Belgian side Cercle Brugge at the end of last season, has joined the Primeira Liga club in a three-year deal. Uchebo told BBC Sport: "My plan is to keep making steady progress in my career. "I'm very pleased to join Boavista. I believe it's the right club for me and I will give my very best for the team." The forward, who was part of the Nigeria team that reached the second round of the World Cup in Brazil, had been linked with a switch to the Ukrainian League for several weeks. "It's true I had contract offers from two teams in Ukraine but my manager and family were not entirely satisfied with the move, due to the crisis in the region," said Uchebo. And his agent Tony Harris said: "I believe Boavista is a great place for him to showcase his ability. He's a very talented boy with a very good mentality. His best years are still ahead of him." Uchebo started his career with Nigerian club Enugu Rangers before joining Dutch club VVV Venlo in a three-year deal in 2010. He soon became an influential player in the team and achieved near cult-status with the fans in 2012 when he scored a late winner in a relegation play-off to keep the club in the top flight. Uchebo, who had been on trials with Stoke City and Rangers earlier, switched to Belgian club Cercle Brugge in May 2012. He established himself in Brugge and was duly rewarded with a call-up for Nigeria's friendly against Mexico in March this year. But he had to wait until 29 May before scoring his first goal for the Super Eagles in the 2-2 friendly draw with Scotland in London. His goal and overall performance was enough to earn him a seat on the plane to Brazil. Uchebo made a single appearance at the World Cup, in the last group game against Argentina in Porto Alegre.

Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert is on the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) five-man shortlist to be the new coach. Ghana have been without a coach since Kwesi Appiah left in September. The other candidates are ex-Chelsea boss Avram Grant, former Italy midfielder Marco Tardelli, Swiss Michel Pont and Spaniard Juan Ignacio Jimenez. "Pont, Kluivert and Tardelli will be interviewed in Accra on 17 October, Grant and Jimenez will be interviewed on 18 October," said the GFA. Former Ajax and Barcelona striker Kluivert, who scored 40 goals for his country in 79 appearances, left his post as Netherlands assistant coach after the World Cup. The 38-year-old began his coaching career in 2011 at Dutch side Twente, where he looked after the youth and reserve teams. A year later he became assistant to Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal and the pair led the team to third place at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Grant has a wealth of management experience, including a four-year spell in charge of his home country Israel and a year as Chelsea coach. Italian Tardelli is perhaps most famous for his ecstatic goal celebration in the 1982 World Cup final victory over West Germany. He has since coached, among others, Egypt and was also assistant coach of the Republic of Ireland. Pont and Jimenez are lesser known names globally. Pont has been Switzerland assistant coach, while the most recent role for Jimenez was coach of Spanish side Valladolid. The GFA also said two coaches, German Bernd Schuster and Argentine Ricardo Gareca, have been named on standby and will be drafted in the event any of the chosen shortlist is not readily available. Maxwell Konadu is in charge of the Black Stars in a caretaker capacity and will oversee the team for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers double header against Guinea. They will play at the Syli Nationale on 11 October in Casablanca, Morocco before hosting the return leg four days later. |

my fear for this project is that it is obvious that this project will not be completed by the time Ameachi leaves office . the new governor comes in and the norm is he stops all ongoing projects and sets up panel to look into the contract . they will take couple of years all this time the projects are abandoned or abandoned completely. |
[quote author=fatdon2 post=26852784]A club house which was undergoing make over from a bungalow to a storey building collapsed on Friday trapping scores of menial labourer and customers at Phase IV road in Jikwoyi, Abuja. Four persons were pulled out alive by rescue workers within few hours of the incident and rushed in ambulances to nearby hospitals, while voices were heard under the rubbles calling for help and making phone calls. Two female workers of the club were seen wailing and showing rescue officials where people were trapped in the collapsed site. One of them put the figure of those still trapped as 13. Residents within the area alleged that the building named ‘Mimshack Arena’ belongs to a policeman called Corporal Joseph. Emeka Ikechuckwu, a resident said some customers were drinking at the bar, while construction work was going on when the entire building craved in. One of the rescue officials at the scene complained that buildings around the area were built so closely which made it difficult for rescue vehicles to get to the incident scene. Efforts to speak to the coordinator of the Abuja operations office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ishaya Chonoko, failed as calls to his phone were not answered. Daily Trust later learnt that he was at the scene of the building collapse coordinating rescue operations. However, NEMA information officer, Manzo Eziekiel informed our reporter that the building collapsed as a result of an additional floor being added on it. where corporal get the money to own club. |
