KFC Uerdingen skipper Robin Udegbe is targeting a call up to the Nigeria National Team, but has admitted that it will be difficult for him to represent his fatherland at international level because he plays in the fourth - tier. Born in Kiel, Germany to a Nigerian father from Anambra State and a German mom, the former VVV Venlo goalkeeper, widely acclaimed to be the best goalkeeper in the Regionalliga West, has chosen to play for the Super Eagles instead of world champions, Germany. “Of course I would accept an invitation, I want to play as high as possible and to play in the national team, would look great. It would be a great honour to be invited to the Super Eagles. “Nigeria is indeed a football country that is represented in almost every World Cup. It is not easy for players in the fourth league to jump on the train.. “I am currently pursuing focused goals with KFC. There is contactand time will tell the rest. because I am completely relaxed,” said Udegbe to reviersport.de. It is thought that his ex teammates at VVV Venlo - Ahmed Musa, Michael Uchebo and Uche Nwofor - are acting as middlemen in assisting him communicate with the Nigeria Football Federation. |

Super Eagles and Bastia midfielder, Sunday Mba, was red carded while in action for his French club, CA Bastia, in a National League game on Saturday. Mba got a red card in the 1-1 draw with Chambly. He was given the marching order by the referee in the 73rd minute of the encounter when his team was down by a lone goal, making it his second red card since he joined CA Bastia last season. Mba scored four goals in 16 games last season, but is yet to score in the seven-week-old National League, which is the French third division. Mba’s stock as a footballer has dwindled since he scored the winning goal for Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations final against Burkina Faso. An ownership tussle first ensued between Warri Wolves and Rangers FC , before he finally moved to Bastia, then in the French second division. Last season, he relegated with the club to the National league. He has also fallen out of favour with the Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi. He was dropped from the World Cup squad in Brazil and was not invited for the recently played 2015 Cup of Nations qualifiers. |

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has spoken out about his brother Anton being racially abused by John Terry. In extracts from his upcoming autobiography, Ferdinand heavily criticises the man he played together with for England so many times. The QPR centre-back admits that he no longer speaks to the Chelsea skipper after he called Anton a 'f***ing black c*nt' during a Premier League match at Loftus Road in October 2011. "For me, the biggest idiot will always be John Terry," Ferdinand states in his autobiography. "As England captain and my centre-back partner he could have saved everyone a lot of pain by admitting immediately he used the word in the heat of the moment, but was no racist." "I think that's probably what happened and what the truth is. Anton and I would've accepted that – instead he never gave us a chance. "That was the betrayal. He tried to run away from what he had done. "I've never actually spoken to John about the case. I no longer talk to him, but even three years later I find it impossible to forgive or forget the pain he put us through." Ferdinand also discussed the effect the incident had on his family as a whole. "There were bullets in the post," Ferdinand said. "My mum had her windows smashed and bullets put through her door, and ended up in hospital because of the stress." Ashley Cole, who supported Terry, is also lambasted by Ferdinand. "Ashley Cole had long been a friend of mine. We've known each other since we were kids," Ferdinand said. "But for me it ended the day he decided to go to court in support of John Terry. "Anton rang me and my head nearly blew off. He was betraying Anton, who he'd also known for years." |

THE House of Representatives Committee on Sports has ordered the Chris Giwa-led leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) to vacate office with immediate effect. The Committee's decision was a fallout of a three-day long interactive meetings with key stakeholders in the nation's football management. At a media briefing in Abuja late Thursday, Chairman of the committee, Godfrey Ali Gaiya said the panel's decision was predicated on the fact that the purported election of August 26, 2014 that brought Chris Giwa's team did not conform with the Federation's statutes, as well as such regulations, since it was supposed to be a non-election congress. "The Committee urges all interested parties to have recourse to the advice contained in FIFA letter of 3rd September, 2014," the Gaiya stated while also imploring the congress to meet "soonest to decide a new road map and schedule an election that allow all eligible Nigerians to participate freely and fairly." Fielding questions from journalists, Gaiya stated that the election that brought Giwa should not have taken place, given assurance that all Nigerians who should know the rules, all parties would abide by the Committee's directive before the September 8 FIFA deadline. "Whatever that is not in tandem with the statues should not be allowed to stand," he stated while debunking the assertion that as part of government, the directive may be seen as Government's intervention in football matters. "FIFA have respect for the parliament, because we represent the people, and we are speaking for the people," the lawmaker noted while explaining that the parliament was acting as an independent arm of the government. |
Nigeria youngster Kelechi Iheanacho will be sent out on loan in January by EPL champions Manchester City. “He will go on loan in January,” revealed a top Manchester City official. However, the official would not divulge the destination of the exciting Nigeria U20 star. Speculations have been rife he could be shipped out to City’s affiliate New York City FC in the MLS. Incidentally, Iheanacho is back in Nigeria recuperating from a hamstring injury he picked up after City’s pre-season tour of the United States of America. He is expected back in England at the end of next month, when he is expected to sign a professional contract as he would clock 18 on October 3. Iheanacho, who was voted the MVP of last year’s FIFA U17 World Cup in UAE, shone at the recent pre-season tour of the US of English Premier League champions, scoring three goals. Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has hailed the Nigeria starlet as the future of the EPL champions. "We have new players. ...Kelechi is just 17 years old and he’s a very important player for us in the future,” Pellegrini remarked. "He demonstrated (vs Kansas City) what he can do in the future. It depends on the way he takes this profession, but I think he’s a good talent." Iheanacho’s coach at U17 and U20 Nigeria teams, Manu Garba, further remarked: “He is a highly promising talent and Nigeria could really get a lot out of him even at this stage of his career. “Personally, I believe he is more talented than most of the top stars at Manchester City, who are only more experienced than he is. “I’m yet to see a player of his age who can score goals around the 18-yard box with such class and composure like he does. “In training with the U17s, he often scores four, five goals. I’m therefore not surprised that more people are now talking about him.” |

Hull City winger Sone Aluko has expressed his desire to join the Super Eagles ahead of the AFCON 2015 qualifiers against Congo and South Africa. The 25-year old midfielder who debuted for Nigeria in a friendly with Republic of Ireland on May 29, 2009, revealed that he is looking forward to national team duty after being overlooked in the last two years. “National team duty bound. Wheels up! Looking forward to joining up with the team,” Aluko tweeted. The former Rangers and Aberdeen star came on as a substitute in Sunday’s match against Aston Villa as the Tigers found themselves trailing late in the match. In April 2010, Aluko was named in the provisional Nigeria squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, but failed to make the final cut. He was finally called up by current Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi and therefore had to make his one cap against Republic of Ireland in May 2009 after he represented England at various age-group levels. He was brought into the squad to face Namibia and Malawi in the World Cup qualifiers in the month of June 2012, but was an unused sub for both games. Aluko was included in a pre-selection for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations but had to renounce because of an injury. Nigeria later won the tournament. |
Nigeria will report Schalke to Fifa after the Germans refused to release striker Chinedu Obasi for this month's 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers. Schalke blamed the issue on Obasi's passport being held at an embassy while a visa application is processed ahead of their Champions League matches. But Super Eagles media officer Ben Alaiya said: "We have two matches on Fifa approved dates. "The country has the right to our player Chinedu Obasi for the games." African champions Nigeria take on Congo on 6 September and South Africa four days later and Super Eagles officials have been angered by Schalke's attitude over Obasi. he Bundesliga club are keen for Obasi to play in their matches against Borussia Monchengladbach in the league and Chelsea in the Champions League on 13 and 17 September respectively. Alaiya added: "Fifa regulations say that a player must report to his national team once international call-up rules are duly respected. "The team secretary has done the needful [by sending out the invite three weeks earlier] and we will report Schalke to Fifa for appropriate sanctions." Meanwhile, Nigeria captain Vincent Enyeama has pulled out of the two Nations Cup qualifiers. Super Eagles temporary coach Stephen Keshi said that Enyeama has asked to be excused "so he can attend to urgent family commitments". "He's a big player for us but when someone is dealing with a family issue, it's very sensitive consequently he will be unavailable for these games", Keshi said. |
