pocohantas: If we start looking at the ills of both gender, I can also say...I don't want to have male kids. I can't imagine raising a potential rapist or rapist apologist, paedophile, armed robber, kidnapper, drug dealer or addict, ritualist, patroniser of call girls, gigolo...I can't even imagine my son giving a girl money for abortion...etc. We all won't have kids.
A professor gave some students a white paper tainted in a little black just at the centre. He asked what they first saw, and they all said the black paint. That's humans, they see that deformity first...myself inclusive. This is exactly what you're doing.
Do your best to train up your kids in a good way, by words and actions. Show them good examples and bad too. Focus on the positive and be hopeful. You have a point, why I emphasized on girls is because guys can always get away with their actions, I'm not appraising them but the society has made it so, same cannot be said of girls. |

Don't associate with any female. It's a free world make friends and relate with your own gender You reason without logic, sorry to say. |

supersystemsnig: The problem is boys can do sh*ts and get away with it..Females aren't too lucky...All the same, the society needs healthy males and females..God help us..the fear of raising kids with good morals is real That is the exact point I'm trying to explain to them, males can get away with it but same can't be said of women reason for my fears, the society is already biased in that angle. |

supersystemsnig: @KevinDein
First : Detach the fear of the girl child or alleviate it
Second : Maintain a routine, with age gap, there should be tasks between specific time for the child to be engaged in. Do not overburden the child, but make sure there are no in-betweens that can not be accountable for, have time for siesta, studies,TV, academics, home chores. The kid must be found in this time line,if the kid is not, be watchful
Third : Exposure, censore the programs they are exposed to, they may be young at some point, but the quality of the mould ( in this case ) mind is greatly influcned by it, you don't wantpollutants seeping through...
Fourth : Engage them in girly activites, like friends, music, do not be rigid...Don't ever make them feel trapped, if they do, they'll want to explore
Five : Use porn blocker on all your electronic gadgets, filter the programs they have access to....
Six : No to boarding school
Seven : Catch them early, capturing the mind early alleviates the exposure to social experiements down the line
Eight : Watch out for strange traits, immediately you notice a foul language/character, there's an external factor involved actively
Most importantly, Pray for them......We all have this fears, but we must pray, and detach the fear of raising the female child, we do this, and hope for the best... God bless you for this, I think I'm beginning to have a change of mind and ideology. |

supersystemsnig: Well said @ the boy child responsible for this pregnancy can move on with life as if nothing ever happened. We've seen these scenarios played out over and over again.
We have these fears, they are valid, i feel personally fellowship, friendship circles, access to information plays crucial roles...We also need to pay attention to the driftings once they start to behave in ways contrary to principles they were fed with, it means someone is feeding them stuff and it's not you. For me o, boy or girl, the moment, i begin to see qualities that aren't mine, it means someone is schooling them somewhere, this is where to cut the red line, in its seed form before it becomes fruit...
All source of information should be scrutinized. For me personally, i will put a lid o social media and television programs, most times attitudes are just the aftermath of the stuff people get from media after an extended period...Imagine doing vie hours of cable TV daily for a year...that's 5 x 365 = 1825 hours, do this year in year out, it will tell on the character of the individual. We can't leave our kids to be brought up and nurtured by principles that are not scrutinized..I heard Bill Gate banned his kids from cell phone till 15 years of age
I passed through six years of boarding school, and can authoritatively say influence plays key role...In the end, it's important to take advantage of the six - fifteen years old gap, do this, have the child for a long time...But the demands of life, work etc, strips many parents of the time they need to impact crucial life lessons
May God help us all You made a huge point here. I'm sorry for my earlier outburst Sir. But again I also went to a boarding school though didn't finish, and I know what peer pressure can cause. In this case where the parents are not in sight to watch them what becomes the result? Even when they come home, they may choose to hide those bad attitudes only to continue when back in school. Unless you want to an only boy school, you should notice how guys make out with girls in dark corners at night. |

Sterope: Marcelo290, sorry about your experience. I bet women we say the same of our men. Apparently, not all women end up like this. There are so many women who are adventurous yet morally upright. Maybe you should learn to be a better father. The type that would give his girl child sex education, teach her to be firm and independent, and how to rise above peer pressure. And primarily lead by example by being a good role model At least am seeing people that have sense and understand my post, my intent wasn't to bash women like some think, thanks dear. |

KevinDein: Truth be told, the consequences of immortality in males and females is not the same. So many teen girls impregnated by teen boys have had their education delayed and the entire course of their lives derailed. Also, abortions which place the lives of the participants at risk are done on women not men. Now while the girl child is exposed to all the above risks, the boy child responsible for this pregnancy can move on with life as if nothing ever happened. We've seen these scenarios played out over and over again.
Now even though I do not agree with the op as I'd really love to have a daughter, I can understand his fears Bro you seem to be the only guy that understands me so far. You just said it exactly how it's in my mind. I may have a change of ideology if I'm convinced with what I read here reason I seek for varied opinions |

My post isn't against women. I just stated my points and fears with what I see daily. my reason for posting it here is to seek the opinion of others, but you jumped in to say I'm seeking attention. If other guys on NL do so for attention, I don't. You sounded dumb hence my harsh reply. |

RaggedyAnn: Yes, raising children isn't easy. Some people think it works by strict instruction or by good example. Some people think: if you give a child everything they need, they won't fall into temptation. . There's no manual that fits every situation. But you've got to try the best that you can. Learn from parents who've successfully raised successful children, but remember that they're different people and their methods may not necessarily work directly for you without a few tweaks. Parenting isn't for the lazy or nonchalant. At least, it shouldn't be.
You should be sure that you can see your child's aspirations clearly as they get set to fly the nest. Parents too often tailor the paths of their kids. If you do that, you can't trust them to stay on course when you aren't there, constantly looking over their shoulder. But if you've done your bit, helped them dream their own dreams and choose proper role models and mentors for themselves; then you can see where they're headed. You can, to a large extent, see what they're pursuing and predict them. Human beings can always be trusted to be selfish and self-serving, even children. Girl, I feel like giving you a kiss for this, nice one. Your comment is the only meaningful one I've seen so far, I needed to be convinced and you tried. |

Daeylar: Misogynists everywhere, look at the useless reasons this one gave,
As if it's only female children that can change, as if males can't change when they leave home, as if male children can't be bad,
All the issues you raised could apply to both male and female, but in your stupidity you decided to pick on the females. Nonsense,
Better don't marry a woman, and a woman shouldn't give birth to your child, after all she is someone's female child. Go and look for a man to carry your kids.
The kind of misogynists on this nairaland.
Men are always saints.
You gave him a good advice.
Exactly @ the bolded, Don't mind him, the problem is that these people only see the female child as the one that is spoilt, as if she is doing all these rubbish with herself. He doesn't know that if he feels females are bad for doing this then the men are equally bad for doing it with them, But he will never say he won't want to have a male child.
He needs to first work hard on himself, he can't give what he doesn't have Lol girl calm down. So stating my thoughts and asking for your opinions have now made me a misogynist? I don't know if you aren't seeing what the society is turning into, what prompted this post was when I saw a teenage girl run away from home to go stay with the so called BF. Adding this to my experience in campus was what necessitated my post. Girls no longer have self control, some would visit you and refuse to go.. |

RaggedyAnn: When you think of all the things that you've done to another person's daughter, the thought of having men do the exact same things to yours fills you with dread. Karma, my dear, is an ugly bitch.
But you shouldn't think this way. When you raise a child with proper morals, in a specific way, that way will not leave that child even when she leaves your home. Chimamanda and all the women you respect still made it in a seemingly morally bereft society. Just work hard on your kids. your first paragraph though. Well you made very salient points, but as I stated in my post, I know those who were trained with the highest morals, but you should know what peer pressure can cause, you know the cliche about Pastors daughters being the most corrupt. . |

Tahra: I'll advise you not to have any kids at all. Those girls that `hawk' sex would've gone out of business if no one patronized them. I get your point and I already explained it in my post, the beam light is always on the female, hence aggravating my fear. |
Romance › I Pray Not To Birth A Female Child by Marcelo290(op): 9:56am On Oct 20, 2017 |
Yeah you read it right. Previously I had envisaged how I'm gonna birth and take care of my daughter, make her a princess so she can proudly stand among equals. I have read about great women of valor who have effected positive changes in the world today, and I would obviously want to have one that would do same and be like the likes of Chimamanda, Dora etc.
But the present disposition of our society has left me with fears. After what I saw in campus and even what I still see everyday, I can only pray for God not to give me female children. I used to think it's all about home training, but I know girls that were brought up in the most upright way, but immediately they leave home and become out of sight, the story changes. These days you would see little girls still in high school being so promiscuous, some of the ones sent to the boarding house escape out and search for how to get laid. I don't want to talk about what I saw in campus, most of us already know the story, how some cohabit with guys, how some move from one city to another to hawk sex and the rest.
With all the above reasons and more, I don't know if it's enough justifications to pray not to have a girl child than to have one that would bring shame and disgrace to me and my family, not like the male ones are saints anyway and can't commit crimes, but that of the female is most disgraceful.
I wish to get your thoughts and opinions on this, am I getting it all wrong?

Politics › Re: If You Are The President Of Nigeria ;what Will Be Your Priority..? by Marcelo290(m): 4:15pm On Oct 18, 2017 |
If I become the President, the first thing I would do is to project the amendment of that thing we call constitution, that's the genesis of our problems.
As a developing African country, we spend too much on frivolities. There is need to cut down the salaries of our senators and the presidency. Education and health would make up about 40% of the budget. We would build capital projects that would help create jobs because we have the work force, I would revive our oil and construction companies especially Ajaokuta steel industry so we could manufacturer our products. All these would help grow our economy.
As someone who is vast in political economy, we would work on our service and manufacturing industries, So we won't depend always on Primary resources like Oil. I support restructuring, my own definition is giving more powers to the states, remember what necessitated the creation of states? many were crying that they weren't carried along, mostly minorities. so going back to regionalism would still bring about an outcry as government is more closer to the people now than before.
I would employ technocrats who are learned in their various fields. appointments would be devoid of bigotry, tribalism and ethnicity.
I would strengthen the fight against corruption and make the courts independent of the federal government. Anybody who would lead us to the promised land must have a good and sound knowledge of history as to know where we came from, with foresight of where we are going to, I think I have these two important attributes.
I have too many plans for this country that if I decide to execute all the plans I have, I fear I may be killed before my time by corrupt politicians and saboteurs because I can't do the aforementioned alone, nevertheless I still keep the dream and hope alive.

All they they do is wake up, open NL romance section and search for any moniker with 'F' and send multiple PM's which most of the times are left without a reply.
They would join them girls to call you "Boy" "Frustrated" "broke" and other derogatory statements you can think of, I saw your first post, don't be moved cos most of us who align with your opinions have decide to keep mute and watch events unfold. |

Most of what you people have been taught about us are pure lies. They were meant to keep hatred in your hearts against us because of the outcome of the civil war. It's not about what I was told, but what I factually discern to be the truth after a thorough study of history. I'm not among those who carry falsehood around out of emotions and sentiments. Be like me, it would help you make neutral judgements without tribal affiliations. |

The way you guys peddle falsehood here and comfortably sleep at night still beats my imaginations. There is a difference between speaking the fact from saying what you know or feel, and in a large forum like NL you should know not everyone is dumb where you can bring in watery claims without any factual analysis and expect people to believe you.
Firstly, Herbert Macaulay never handed any power to anyone, Zik who was his vice took over power from him as was expected in 1947 or so after his death. Again Awo was never a member of NCNC, so I don't know we're you got that from.
Cry and wail any how you want you can't distort history and a well known fact that Awolowo brought in tribal politics into Nigeria. |
